Remote shutter button - Xperia Z Accessories

Anyone know of a good way to operate the camera remotely (for taking self portraits)?
I have been able to use the volume keys on an old wired headset to take a photo using camera fv-5, but wanted to do this wirelessly. I have tried with two different Bluetooth headsets, but this doesn't work. I've looked into Maku Shuttr, but this seems a) expensive, b) large for what it is, and c) requires a separate app to work with the Xperia Z, which does not look very good. I know you can do this with the Sony watch 2, but don't want to buy that just for this functionality. Anyone have any ideas?

I think you can do this with tasker app... Not 100% sure though.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of tasker. I have not seen a way to do what I want (trigger the camera shutter with a Bluetooth headset) on a quick search, but will spend some time on it later. In the mean time, does any one know how this could be configured?

Sony Smartwatch

Thanks. I did say I didn't want to buy the watch just for this functionality though. Ideally I'd get it working with hardware I already have, i.e. a Bluetooth headset. I still haven't figured out if it is possible to configure tasker to do this though. Has anyone managed it?

Thanks - I did say I'd looked into this (although I had spelled it wrong!), but it wasn't for me. It's too large, it's expensive for what it is, and it seems to require a separate app for the xperia Z. I'd much prefer to be able to use an old bluetooth headset. However, I have not, as yet, found a way of making this work, so am limited to using an old wired headset or the self timer. Thanks anyway for looking.

Yeah tasker.
You can create a task to, say, shoot one picture per second for 10 seconds, set it to start after you push a certain button (or whatever tasker lets you automate any actions your phone is capable of)
it has a learning curve to set up so you may want to read up some tutorials on it, but its a must have app, and I rarely reccommend paid programs.

Automatic bluetooth on when on external power

Wouldnt it be great if bluetooth turned on automattically when I put the phone in the car holder(with charge function), and when i pull it out bluetooth turns off.
I Know that Phone alarm can do the trick but i don't need all the extra things that come with phone alarm, it only messes things up.
Is there a simple cab file around who enables this function?
Or if there isnt, could someone make such a cab file? I know a lot of guys who would love to have this working.
I would like it!
i am using phonealarm which also supports this function. Find it at www.pocketmax.net
I know i used it also but it is overkill if i only want to use it for the bluetooth function.
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3367344
I installed it, reset my phone but it does not work.
Is this one especially for the hd2?
Oh boy would I like this! It's such an simple and usefull thing, and yet there still is no cab for it.
I'm not a developer, but it seems easy: power on = BT on, power off = BT off. It should be a matter of finding the right trigger for power on, and then combine it with the bluetooth-toggle cab found elsewhere. (See attached)
Who can help!
ps: it's for a HD2, so post mentioned above (bluepower) doesn't work indeed. Probably because of the other BT protocol used.
ps2: the attached Touch X Bluetooth Toggle.cab DOES work on HD2, but manually. If this cab can be changed to toggle BT on power-status in stead of manual input we'd have what we want.
ps3: phonealarm does know how to do the trick, but it's not flawless, and surely overkill. BUT.... the right trigger (powerstatus-on, powerstatus-off) should be in it somewhere... who can find it, and convert the attached BT toggle with it to the wanted function?
would be a nice one to have indeed, hope someone can help!

Hope there wil be one soon
Yeah, as per the thread I started on a similar subject, I want to do this stuff but like others, Phonealarm is a little bit OTT for what I need, and g-profile just simply doesn't seem to work for some reason.
I set up a bunch of profiles but when you change (either manual or auto) the stuff you set up for the profiles in question just doesn't seem to happen. Hoping I'm just doing something wrong!

Sorry, but the logic is flawed. Some times the user may have BT on when not charging, then start charging. It would be bad to disconnect bt when he or she did not want to charge any more.
I'd do it like this: power on, save bt status, turn on bt regardless of previous state. power off, turn bt to same state as saved. You could possibly ask the user if he or she wanted to disconnect.
That would be an improved functionality indeed. But not needed for me (yet). I only use Bluetooth for connecting to my carkit. The rest of the day it's turned off. So for me power_on=BT_on and power_off=BT_off would be enough.
Your added function makes it even nicer though....
Nobody who can help us?
Bump,
wow this topic goes down fast.
hope someone will pick this up, it's a really good idea
and so simple.... it seems.
I really would like to have it too. I even provided the raw material with the working other programs, now all we need is a Winmo magician who can extract the needed elements, and brew it into a working cab...

On the profiles tab hit options an use the top function(automatically change) to ad the toggle on power state.
Ok, one last try.
Isn't there anyone who can help us.
I do use phonealarm right now but i think it drains my battery fast.
How about this guys?

Havent used it myself, and it is not clear if this is touchscreen compatible..

[Q] Searching for hack/app "Next track" button

Hi,
I've been several days with that "issue", and I'm not finding any proper answer..so, here we go:
It's simple. I don't like to pull out my phone to skip next track, or skip next recorded FM station, using wired headphones, of course. Is there any hack (or app, or homebrew app) to achieve this?
Thank you.
PS: I know Samsung phones can "doubletap" to skip song, but I love HTC
Sorry, could you explain what you're actually trying to do? I get what you don't like (pulling out the phone) but not what you're asking for, app-wise. "Some way to switch tracks while the phone is in my pocket" is a little bit vague.
Hi,
I'll try to explain myself. If you're listening music, and you wan't to skip to next song, usual procedure is to tap Volume Button, and tap in screen the icon "next song". But, in order to do that, you have to pull out your phone of your pocket.
If you make skips very often, it's very annoying. In my older Android, if I press twice VolUp in wired headset (which I have for my HTC), it skips to next song. That's what I need. I don't have to pull out my phone, and tap in the screen.
I want that behaviour also to FM radio, to skip between stations.
In Samsung Focus/Omnia (WP7 phones), things work like that.
So, I can see a few options ahead:
- An app/hombrew app/registry tweak to change the behaviour of the buttons in my wired headphone, so when I click twice, it skips next song/FM station
- An external FM radio app and/or music player with that option: click twice and skip song
If none of the above is possible, I'm thinking of developing one, but I'll like to know if it's feasible (I'm not much in app paradigm in WP7, maybe it's impossible to circunvent button behaviour).
I think it's all.
Thank you very much for your time.
Ignacio Siles.
Just click twice and it will work.
Also you can click triple and seek to the begining of track.
Well, It doesn't work to me...
If I click Play/pause wired headphone button, the song stop/resume twice, but I can't get to next song.
And if I click VolUp wired headphone button, I can only raise volume.
I'm testing WP7 in a HTC HD2 Twilight ROM 7.008, before buying an actual WP7 phone.
So, does it work like you said in HTC HD7? Which build?
Thank you.

Works on my Optimus 7 with 2 types of headphones.
Yes. I've read that works with LG and Samsung phones, but no luck with HTC.
Please, can you confirm that double click can change from one FM preset to another?
Maybe HTC it's not the best choice with WP7...
What do you think about my ideas? App/hack/registry tweak..maybe flash different ROM, from Samsung or LG
Works on my HTC hd2
@chorl:
HTC has the best homebrew currently, although Samsung isn't far behind and is catching up. HTC also includes some neat "functional" apps, like Hidden WiFi and Sound Enhancer. However, if this feature is a big deal for you, it might be better to go with a different OEM. Alternatively, it might be coming in an update.
Flashing a ROM from a different OEM will NOT work. ROMs include drivers, and given the hardware differences between devices, you'd be very lucky to even get it to boot, let alone work right.

Yes, indeed. I know the risks about find different ROM, but...it's so frustrating...
Well, I think Samsung it's a good OEM, but you know about Mango update issues...I'll try to improve this a little further..
Thank you GoodDayToDie.
I've read on other forum info about Samsung headphone hardware related to the capability for "double click".
Maybe same headphones with HTC hardware may work properly...
Would be nice if someone can take the test

Satechi BT MediaRemote Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control

I found something interesting on the Amazon store I thought I would share, I found this is incredibly useful for me so hopefully is to someone else.
this should work on pretty much any Android device but I'm posting it here as it is the only one I can/have tested it on.
I cannot post links yet but it can be found on Amazon UK under the name "Satechi BT MediaRemote Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control"
It's a small Bluetooth remote for iPad/iPhone/Mac and very quietly mentions Android so I decided to buy one and see how it goes as I needed something like it for my car.
Anyway it arrived this morning and I love it, I've successfully used it and I've been able to remap keys using the "External Keyboard Helper Pro" app by "Apedroid" which allows remapping of keys to media keys or launching apps.
All keys on the remote can be remapped except the wireless symbol which un-pairs and goes into discover mode.
My requirements were a remote that allows me to change tracks while driving but it also got Google now working in my car Bluetooth system. (it did not connect properly when I launched it via car voice controls)
I have now got the keyboard button remapped to switch to the maps app and the mute button to launch Google now so once Google now is done I have a button to go back to the navigation screen .
I have also been fairly successful in getting this to work with Tasker however it required a small workaround by exporting the task as an app (via Tasker App Factory) and then using "External Keyboard Helper Pro" to launch it.
My only issue with the remote at the moment is that it connects as a hardware keyboard meaning I cannot type while using it (obviously not an issue in the car though)
All this was done on a non rooted Nexus 4 on 4.4.2 so root is not required by the way.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, I'm going to figure out how I can bind the other 9 keys on the remote
Oh and finally if you do use the app in question and use Tasker I'd recommend exporting a Tasker task which launches the intent "android.intent.action.VOICE_COMMAND" rather than using the built in voice control key setting.
Dude!! I have totally been looking for this! I like playing podcasts from my phone while I'm working in the garage, so I hook the phone up to my stereo but whenever I need to pause it or adjust the volume, I gotta go clean up or slide out from under the car... This will be perfect!! I'm totally ordering this right now!! Thanks brother (or sister?)!!

NFC Tags/Stickers

Anybody used any with their new Moto X yet?
I ordered these last night.

Topaz 512 chips by WhizTags.
I'll let you know if they work, don't see any reason they shouldn't though.
I'd also be interested in what you use them for. I never got them for my Galaxy S4 because I was never sure what I would do with them. I understand how they work and what the potential uses are, but what is useful in the real world?
I'm currently using some rewritten droid tiles tags that I was using with my galaxy nexus. They work, but the Trigger app flashes on the screen when I scan them.
I've been using tags with profiles for a while now and I don't think I could go back. The automation achieved by tags beats any other process I've tried.
For example, when I leave my room I scan a tag which turns off WiFi and changes volume settings. Then, when I get to my car I scan another tag that turns on Bluetooth, launches Car Home Ultra, connects to my Bluetooth FM transmitter, and plays Pandora. Its much easier than unlocking the phone and changing the settings and launching the apps manually.
I plan on attaching one to my car dock for launching google play music, and pairing with my stereo.
And maybe putting one on my TV remote for launching Netflix or something.
But really I'm just looking forward to experimenting.
I really liked having root so I could modify the NFC apk to allow NFC with the screen locked or off. I know its a security concern, but unlocking the screen is a minor inconvenience.

This would be a useful feature.
Sadly, no root for VZW. Yet. *crosses fingers*
I'm using this xposed module to activate torchlight without turning on the device and it works like a charm.

It would be reeeeaaaly neat wenn they could also add NFC to this module!!
EDIT: I already wrote to that guy (Wanam) few hours ago asking if there was a possibility of having such a module in future..
His answer was: "No plans for a HW toggle for NFC" [emoji53]

Anybody know what exactly qualifies as the screen being "On"?
Is the Screen "on" when Moto Display is showing the time and notifications?
Just got them. They work great.
Bonus points, no duplicate colors.

No. The screen must be on and unlocked. This makes it too inconvenient to overcome the usefulness. If I have to power on and unlock the screen I might as well just manually turn on or off whatever feature I wanted at that point.

I used to use them with my Galaxy nexus. Here's what my setup was:
Office - disable BT, enable wifi, and set all sounds to vibrate
Car - enable BT, disable wifi, set sound to appropriate level and launch Spotify
Home - disable BT, enable wifi, and set sound to appropriate level
I would scan them upon arrival at one of those places. While they were useful, I found that there wasn't anything that they could do that I couldn't also do with Tasker. Although, I think the NFC tags are probably a better option since NFC uses minimal power as compared to Tasker functions (depending upon how you set them up, that is).
I haven't set the NFC stuff up since I got my X, but I will likely do so soon.

Are there external triggers?

Hey, there. I'm wondering if there exists some sort of external piece of hardware that would act as a trigger for a "press". Or, another creative way to accomplish what I am going for.
What I am wanting to do is to trigger a single sound from an Android device using a separate piece of hardware. For instance, you have an app that has a button for a clap sound every time you press it. I would like to be able to activate that sound via something that can be pressed with the foot. Preferable through Bluetooth, but through usb would be fine as well. Hell, even pressing the space bar on an external keyboard would work. It would just likely break really quickly
I'm trying to encorporate a few sounds during a live performance, when stopping and tapping the phone or pad is simply out of the question. It would seem like something simple to do and that would already exist, but I've looked and can't really come up with a viable solution. I can buy a completely new piece of musical equipment that can do exactly what I'm looking for, but besides cost, this would be 100 times more convenient, as well as provide a lot more options when it comes to the actual sound effect that I'm looking for.
Any help would be much appreciated, and thanks!
