Has anyone else for a kernel wake lock of bluesleep quite dominant?
Is there a fix for this?

I noticed it today when I had been listening to audio over my bluetooth headphones. Had you been doing similar?
I notice it happens as a result of my Pebble being connected. Do you have any "smart" devices connected to it?

Yep I have a Pebble too.
Same here, I have been running it alongside my Nexus 4 (alternating days, same apps, settings, etc.). Nexus 4 is still on Jellybean, Nexus 5 is obviously on KitKat.
The issue might just be with KitKat because I don't have the issue at all with the Nexus 4. My next step will be to flash KitKat on my N4 and see if the issue starts happening there as well.
Obviously there is going to be some sort of battery drain when Bluetooth is enabled but there is a HUGE difference between the drain and wakelocks on N4 & Jellybean and N5 & KitKat. Hopefully it's software only.
Anybody figured anything out with this? I am getting bluesleep and msm_serial_hs_dma wakelocks. I use a Pebble also.
Edit: Saw there was a thread for this on the Pebble forum and they apparently deleted it because I had to view a cached version.
Unfortunately, my Nexus 4 is out of commission for the time being but I did get some (not very conclusive) data that showed the issue is not preset with the N4 & Jellybean.
However, I found more information regarding the subject. I found this post on the pebble message boards that seems to confirm the issue lies mostly with the Pebble watch. I tested this by disconnecting my watch but leaving bluetooth on (both with it connected to nothing and on a half an hour drive with my N5 connected to my car). The wakelock is nowhere near as crazy as it is with the Pebble.
Doing more research on the bluesleep wakelock in general yielded a couple of results here in XDA ranging from missing binaries to kernel bugs. The fact that it's only happening to the Pebble is interesting however.
I wonder how other Bluetooth "smart" devices do with the Nexus 5. I don't own any other ones but if someone else does that would prove an interesting test.
Seeing the same thing. Got a Pebble yesterday and seeing the Bluesleep wake lock in BBS.
edit: wrong thread!
Has anyone been able to test this with another Bluetooth data device (ie: not a headset)?
Same Blue sleep issue
I'm having the same issue.
Running 4.4.1 with ART runtime.
Using Sony bluetooth headphones.
Over 2.5 hours of wakelocks today.
Wasn't an issue on 4.4 so must be software glitch in 4.4.1
Will need to post it to Android code database so it can be locked into.

I have the same with Android 4.4.2 using ART: Pebble app has 4h 8m of keep awake on 6h 36m total. I found a fix for bluesleep wakelock for Motorola Atrix, probably someone could build one for N5.
I think that the wakelocks issue is related to ART; I switched back to Dalvik and now it seems working fine as before.

bluesleep
msm_serial_hs_dma
msm_otg
msm_serial_hs_rx
are the main problem wakelocks

Same issue for me now, Galaxy s4 running GPE ROM on 4.4.4 with Pebble Smartwatch. Almost 100% awake due to BT. If I turn off BT thongs go back to normal ...
Any fixes yet?
Same problem with jawbone up24.
I have the same problem. Started when I installed the beta XY findit app for BLE tags.
I have uninstalled that now, but whenever I have bt open, the battery drains blazingly fast. no BT headsets or anything. I mostly use the bt to interact with iBeacons.
i have been having this issue a lot to. seems to be caused by my pioneer nav in my car. bluetooth does disconnect however bluesleep wake lock stays going until i turn off bluetooth. hasnt always been a problem. started maybe a month ago. very strange. running slim rom. happens with stock slim and elementalx kernels.
I have had this issue a few times with certain versions of Franco kernel. I have a Fitbit Flex that syncs with my phone.

Anyone else having issues with BT headset dropping the connection occasionally!
I'm using cataclysm latest and a Motorola flip elite.
Happens every other day.
Makes me wonder if I should use a KRT16S since the stock ROMs are all KRT16M?

No issues with drops, just way too loud but I think that is only affecting stereo headsets. I'm running cataclysm with franco's kernel.

Maybe it's just my headset..... Or kernel (faux).
Unlikely it's hardware issue with my phone.
Everything is so new that it will be a few months until bugs are worked out.
I get drops/skips all the time when listening to music over bluetooth, probably at least once a day. It just cuts in and out for 30 seconds or so and then settles down and works fine. I don't have another bluetooth device to test it with so I don't know if it's my phone, or the bluetooth headset. Anyone else have a similar problem? I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue... Did on straight out of the box, stock software and on DroidKang 6/7.

Is your's a mono headset as well?
I've had this on other phones, it's a common Android bug and people are forever moaning about it on other forums, but the Nexus bluetooth is perfect on my stock phone. Did read Franco's kernal had messed this up again so looks like something the devs either introduce or more likely remove to save power as that's a common claim they make.

I had the problem on a bone stock phone, fresh out of the box. Never had this problem on other phones with this "headset"
So I just switched to a Nexus 5 from a Galaxy S4.... loved the phone until I connected it to my Tundra OEM bluetooth system. Hard to pinpoint an exact problem, it just doesn't work right. Randomly disconnects, etc. I had zero issues with bluetooth with my GS4. Is there some fix I should be aware of? i should mention that I rooted the phone right off the bat and am running Cyanogenmod Nightly.
Try it on stock to see if you have issues. It's most likely a rom issue
Sent from my Nexus 5
I've had a similar problem on stock rom with stock, chaos, franco and arkenstone kernels so I don't think the rom or kernel is the root of the problem. It will arbitrarily not connect, it will connect but when a call comes in won't automatically go to bluetooth but go to the handset etc.
I had hoped it was fixed somehow but happened again today out of the blue. It also comes with excessive bluesleep wakelocks that impact my battery life significantly (goes from draining at .7%/hr to ~3%/hr).
I'm having bad sound quality when making call through Bluetooth in my car. It sounds like the audio is breaking up. Anybody else have this problem? My note 3 was working just fine through bluetooth

I also noticed the same thing yesterday driving home. I did not have this problem earlier in the week. I'm not sure what is going on. This along with a strange wifi problem has recently surfaced. If I leave my wifi range and then return, it does not want to reconnect. I have to toggle the airplane mode then wifi will reconnect. I am running stock 11s rooted with 2.7.1.0 TWRP, Xposed framework, Xpoxed GEL, Gravity Box, Tasker, Autovoice.

I am. I'm looking for suggestions for things to try and improve the stuttering/skipping/dropouts that I'm experiencing when using my OnePlus One in media playback mode through my Chevrolet MyLink car radio. I have some additional details to offer and things I have tried:
1) The playback application doesn't seem to make any difference, the problem is most pronounced (unlistenable) when playing back music files and is highly annoying when listening to speech (e.g. podcast) files. I suspect the difference is the music having a beat that gets interrupted while there are some normal pauses in speech so the stuttering blends in a bit more. In any event, it's not a problem with the playback application.
2) It seems unlikely to be a problem with the car radio (Chevrolet MyLink). Though I haven't done extensive testing I have done some using my old Motorola Atrix HD with a nightly CM11 on it from a few weeks back and that does not seem to have the issue, or at least it is not nearly as severe.
3) When I use a third party bluetooth audio receiver (some cheap no-name one from ebay) the quality seems to be fine but when I try to go directly to the car stereo I get tons of stuttering/skipping/drop outs.
A friend suggested that I try running an alternative kernel and see if that improves things. Any ideas on whether that may be the case or which one might be the best to try? Any other suggestions? It's quite annoying that I can't playback audio through the car radio...
Thanks!
Anyone have any ideas? I tried running the Franco kernel tonight and it seems to have the same issue. I did some logcat captures and I seem to be getting a lot of "W/bt-btif ( 2104): btif_media_aa_prep_2_send congestion buf count 24" messages when playing back audio through the car radio. See the attached full logcat captures with both the stock and Franco kernels and connected to both an alternative Bluetooth dongle and to the MyLink car radio.
Any suggestions?
After further testing I was able to determine this is an issue with the phone and not the car radio as I was able to find at least one other BT device which exhibits the same issue. I have created a ticket for this issue at: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-1005 if you are also experiencing this issue you are encouraged to go and vote for the ticket.
One question though. Do you have WiFi on when traveling in your car? Try turning it off and see if you still get skipping.
I do in fact have WiFi on at all times. I tried turning it off for the day today while doing some driving and it appeared to clear up the problem. I would think it's still a bug because having WiFi on should not prevent BT audio from working correctly but it at least gives someone a direction to investigate.
So I've done some slightly longer term testing and what I can say is the problem is not totally cleared up when WiFi is off but it is much, much better (definitely listenable). I will still get a couple dropouts when first starting a stream (sometimes, not always) but after 30 seconds to a minute it seems to settle down and be fine as long as I keep the WiFi off.

Just to clarify the situation..
My Xperia Z2 have the same issues.. It is not your phone but the Bluetooth stack in android that pretty much sucks the problems you are dicribing has been there since android 4.2 on a lot of devices.
I have just changed my Lumia 1020 out with this Z2 and call me disappointed in music quality! On the Lumia you would have trouble hearing a difference between jack/auxiliary and Bluetooth..
And today I did notice some dropouts even with WiFi off well into my drive but it was just a few packets I would guess more of an annoyance than a serious problem. I've heard about issues in the Android BT stack but the confusing part of that is why certain devices (such as my Atrix HD) don't seem to experience the problem.
I have a bluetooth stereo I use every morning in my home and a bluetooth stereo in my car. I almost exclusively use pandora, but I have also used power amp on longer trips. I have never experience this issue with my opo. I have ran 25-33 all rooted with no problems and am currently using CM11 nightlies. I also am not having any wifi issues.
Sorry it's not very helpful, but it doesn't sound like a widespread issue at least.
It certainly has something to do with the particular bluetooth implementation used by the receiver interacting with the OPO. As I indicated I have three different BT receivers I can test with and the problem affects two of them but not the other.
Anybody else experiencing a weak bluetooth connection with the S6? I'm losing the connection with my Garmin Vivosmart in places I've had no problem connecting with other devices. I'm curious about other's experiences on this as a search hasn't turned up much yet.
I have noticed this as well. I could walk pretty far away from my S4 before it would drop. With this S6, I only get a few feet away before audio gives out. Doesn't disconnect, just loses audio.
Also, random loss of audio from time to time, even when the phone is right next to my head.
Yeah I've noticed the same thing with my S6. At work I don't always keep my phone on me and with my M8 I could walk around the whole building without my G Watch disconnecting and with my S6 I can only get a few feet away before the connection drops.
Yes happening with my moto 360 it is annoying and hopefully will be fixed soon
Haven't had any disconnect issues, but for some reason connecting to my car stereo has been a nightmare. It takes like 5 tries before it actually connects.

Same here, takes me 3 or 4 times to try to bluetooth sync with ford sync system. Yesterday it would sync then play for 30 seconds and pause play back. I don't know if its the phone or lollipop as alot of the problems I see are also happening on my nexus 9.

Identical experience. With my S4 and my Nexus 9 I was able to literally get to the edge of my large yard before losing connection with my Vivosmart. Now I can't leave the room since getting my S6. I hope it's software and we can somehow change it, because it's ridiculously bad. I also have had to turn my BT off and back on three times this week because it would crash and refuse to talk to either my Vivosmart or my car. As soon as I toggle the BT on the phone it reconnects to everything. Seems to be triggered by starting my car (i.e. the BT car interface becomes available.) Never had either problem with the S4.

Since so many people are having this problem, it's probably phone related and not just an isolated incident.

Yeah this is one of my only remaining complaints about the device. I can't use my Vivosmart for sleep tracking anymore...it disconnects/reconnects way too many times and the persistent vibes wake me up.
So honest question...let's assume it is fixable by software tweaks. What's the fix in that scenario? Reroute more power to bluetooth radio? Other?

Well I've seen a lot of threads online for other devices where an Android update affected bluetooth range. Obviously there's some sort of software control for this. I'm rooted, and I'm willing to try some things but I don't know where to begin. I'm not an OS / Kernel guy.
i wonder if its what it is connecting to as well as a problem with S6? i have the Motorola Buds headset and it has worked as expected giving me about 100 foot range when talking on it. i also have a 2013 Ram truck with Uconnect and have not had any issues and it connects right away and reads my text etc.. as it was doing with my Note 3 and ATIV.
i havent tried other devices but have a few like a speaker and will see as i use them if i have issues.
Haven't messed with Bluetooth that much on this phone, but I think wifi is a bit weak

I've had Bluetooth issues. Seems really short range.
Wifi is about the same as my LG G2, but BT is about half as far. I used to be able to get around 15m at work (lots of shelving) but now I'm lucky to get 5m before hearing static and starting to cut out. Sucks because BT is my main source of music at work.
Anybody had better luck after applying the new ota?
Please please help me - this is driving me nuts...
When playing back audio 90% of the time i will get an awful stuttering... it seems fine if i use wired audio
Sometimes it will work just fine, but most of the time it's really bad
I found somewhere online that seemed to link it to wifi scanning - i tried turning this off and it worked briefly, but then was back to how it was
Also, should probably add, it doesnt seem to matter what app I use - tried Spotify / Deezer / Google Music - all downloaded music
Any ideas?

Darn
So guessing there isn't a solution out there then?
There is a talk.sonymobile.com z5 suite thread on this issue, you might want to follow up hoping for a permanent fix. There are several more or less temporary solutions in the vein of just rebooting, rebooting to safe mode and back, or just clear all apps cache. Few questions for you, is it only aptx headphones or speakers with this issue or even regular bt? Is the stuttering new to MM or was it already in LP too?
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Phone is brand new so only ever used on MM
Rebooting fixed very briefly.
Headphones are not aptx to my knowledge - they were fairly cheap from Amazon, but worked absolutely fine on my last phone, so I know it's not them...
Well, on train now and apart from some very minor stutters (which are barely noticeable) this solution has fixed the issue!
Massive thanks for the suggestion and help!
Turning off location scanning (mine was never on) doesn't help me. I thought the last MM patch fixed it, but I was wrong. Also, I'm having a problem now where devices will connect, but I will simply not get any audio through those devices. I have to reboot the phone for it to work. I've already posted in sonymobile, but this'll do it. Anyone want to buy a mint condition green Z5?
So I maybe spoke too soon. It is definitely better, but not perfect... Def got a few serious crackles on the way home. I can probably live with it if it stays like this tho
The real solution is to keep posting on that relevant sonymobile thread and thus let Sony know we're not happy with this ongoing issue.
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Yep, def not fixed. Certainly miles better tho.
It's weird - it sounds like it's a strain issue (I.e. too many things running)/but I can be playing Lara Croft for 20mins with music and no stutter, but be messaging on WhatsApp and have it. Very very odd.
Will def post on the Sony Forums
