[Q] Google Now conversational voice commands and Canada - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I read correctly, the latest version of Google Now includes siri-style conversational voice commands, so you can ask things like "send a text message" and it will prompt you for both the recipient and contact. But, the version notes state that "New hotword: “Ok Google” (US only)", which I suspect means that this new feature isn't available in Canada. Fine, that happens, we in Canada are used to getting shafted on stuff like that.
BUT.
It seems wrong to keep that from Nexus 5 owners in Canada. Right? Any one have thoughts on getting around this restriction?

You have to set language to English (US) for the hotword to work. That solved my problem on 4.4 on my Nexus 4.

It means your default language bro not your country.
Just set the language to ENGLISH (US) and thats all.
If helped please hit thank button.:good:

I think you misunderstand. "OK Google" works fine. Its the further response that's missing. For example, I can say "send a text message" and I get a form to write a text. It should ask me to specify a contact and message.

Bump.

Rebooting my phone fixed this.

So it's all good?
The language also needs to be set inside of Google Now's settings. :good:

Dialer Applications

Hey Everyone,
Just wondering what everyone is using as there Dialer??
The Stock one is quite sad considering that you have to click like a few times to call someone...
Is there a application out there that displays all your contacts and you just have to press once on the name to dial?? ( Not like MeContacts that only displays so many for speed dialing)
I was looking at Dialer one but can't seem to download it...seems discontinued or something...
Please give your preference and if you can, why you chose it.
Thank you all for your input.
Chad
check out superdial
There is 2 in the market place at the moment,
1 that is a paid version but says it's for chinese users but we can use it still and the 2nd one has bugs in it and isn't being continued?

me too looking for something like this , checked superdial, not so impressive though.
Check out Youlu. A number of Android sites have recommended it. I just installed it, and though it could use more options (such as disabling dial-sounds, and hiding of email-only contacts), it looks nice.
wow this is actually better than atakephone, i kinda regret paying for it now!
I always had hard time searching contacts to dial.
I used modified acontacts on my donuts. But im now using Dialer One.
It have call log, dialer. contacts at once. easy to use. and its Free
Try it

Going to try Youlu and Dialer one out right now and see which one I like better!
Another vote for Superdial. I've been using it for a few months now, can't live without it. It's definitely one of the best dialers out there.
My main concern is having quick and easy access to contacts without having to click through 17 menus to get to them. I simply start spelling the name of the contact and it appears, tap their name and it's calling. Takes a mere 2 seconds before I'm calling the person I want.

SMS on TF-101G

Hi all
I just got a message from my friend that he recieved an update yesterday night from Asus for his TF-101G which he bought from taiwan. Apparently the update had a sms system, and he is able to use it to sms to a phone. not whatsapp or viber but through gsm network.
I was wondering if it is able to integrate with our wifi Transformer "rooted" with 3G dongle installed. As previously I tried to activate whatsapp, and the sms got sent over into my dongle, thus activating whatsapp. The current dongle I am using is the huawei e1550, and specs shows that there is GSM radio installed inside.
Was wondering if anyone is interested to follow up?
Thanks.

Not having a G-variant, i am lazy. I just run TexTab on my phone and ASUS, and use that for texting. Very useful as well since that gives me the same number and the thread is for view on the phones SMS app - perfect for having to go away from Tablet.
TexTab basically uses the phone via Bluetooth for texting goodness.
why not just text with google voice through wifi? It's much easier and works out of the box. Plus you can save all your texts and it syncs your conversations with your phone and web browser, which I think makes it much more useful.
Well I currently do not have access to a google voice account at the moment, was considering if sms is viable why not use it?

Give or take limitations once you go past sitting in the USA and texting other people in the USA, you can only send like 150 texts per contact within so many hours, unless it's done via forwarding through a real cellphone. From what I could tell, the Android app has the same limitation as the web interface.
I found this out because the first month my fiancee and I were texting, we exchanged almost 10,000 SMS, and still average like 7,000+ .

ReadItToMe - Unique Handsfree (FREE VERSION)
Installed this on mine and the wifes phone.Very cool when driving/cycling or if the phone is out of reach. You can set profiles for speaker/earphones or bluetooth. Very surprised at how accurate it is. I'm only using the free version currently which reads out SMS messages. There is a paid version available
Playstore blurb
ReadItToMe Pro reads out your incoming callers, sms messages and other app notifications, translating txt speak into normal language. In ANY language.
It's great for use whilst driving, cycling, running, walking, in the gym or any other time you need to be handsfree.
Translates txt speak
ReadItToMe will translate your sms messages into proper english so you can understand what's being read. You can even add your own words and translations easily through the UI.
With ReadItToMe this:
SMS from John: Btw dat woz amazin, I dunno y I wasn't gonna go lol
Becomes This:
"New message received from John. By the way that was amazing, I don't know why I wasn't going to go laugh out loud”
Any Language
ReadItToMe supports ANY language as long as your TTS engine (and Voice engine) has that language installed.
If the default Android TTS doesn't support your language I'd recommend trying IVONA TTS.
Contact Blacklist
With ReadItToMe you are able to choose which contacts are read and when. You can choose to have specific contacts only read over headphones or bluetoth, or you can mute contacts so you are only notified of a message from that person but the message is not read aloud.

I've just noticed this icon appear next to "Mobile" for each contact in my Contacts app. It looks light gray with my theme and has a SIM-card-looking picture in it. Anyone know what this means?
Do you get a different icon for someone when a call comes from a number you've set as "Home" by chance?
If not, I'm wondering if it's saying that contact info is stored on the phone/SIM card instead of Google

No, setting the number as "Home" or "Work" does not change the icon. I also selected to browse only the contacts on the SIM card and on the device, neither of which has any contacts. These contacts are on my Google account only. This is definitely a "SIM card" icon, though I'm not sure why it's showing for all of the contacts.
I think it's for dual sim card phones. is my guess mine changes from an number 1 to a number 2 depending on which sim card the call came in on

Question iPhone users not receiving my Google messages text

I've had this issue where iPhone users are not receiving my text messages. More specifically, they are not receiving sms that i sent through my Google messages. If i send an MMS message ( either with a picture or by adding a subject line) then they will receive it. I can receive and view their messages but they can't see my sms messages.
I have the unlocked variant of the s22 Ultra with a T-Mobile US sim card. I feel like I'm the only one with this issue.
Things i have tried:
-Reset all network settings
-changing "Access Point Name" settings
-Turned off Google messages chat feature
+Worked with an iPhone user to to change
their settings for my phone settings.

I really don't know what else to do. Is there a way where it can automatically only send text as MMS? Any other fix?
Do you have chat features enabled? If so it's it green text that says connected?

I originally had the chat feature on (because i thought this was the problem) but since trying to troubleshoot, I've turned it off.
Have you tried the Samsung Messages app?

I just tried it right now and it's not working either. Exact same issue.
What phone did you come from?
skylinegtr116 said:
I did this, I deactived my number from imessages . Since I transferred everything over I deleted all the conversations I previously had on my s22. That seems to do the trick for me now I don't have issues with iPhone users.

Problem seemed to start on my s21 ultra ( that i noticed) then jumped into the pixel 6 pro, it still happened there. Now i have the s22 Ultra.
I never had an iPhone to be able to delete anything from imessage. So that's kind of odd for me.
Was on chat for 2 hours with my carrier (T-Mobile) and they said it was an iPhone issue. That the fix would need to be on all of the individual iPhones that I'm having issues with. I guess i won't be contacting those people anymore.
