[HELP] Haptic feedback/all vibration suddenly stopped working - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, about 30 minutes ago, haptic feedback stopped working.
So far, I've toggled "vibrate on touch" off/on in both DISPLAY and LANGUAGE & INPUT, moved the slider for "KEYPRESS VIBRATION DURATION", done a handful of restarts to no avail.
I imagine I could do -adb fastboot reboot to get back to stock, but wanted to see if anyone else is having issues and/or fixes.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ended up doing a complete wipe and reinstall stock - still no haptic feedback to be had.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

I had to do a RMA due to the defective vibrator motor in my N5. Maybe yours has died?

Might be a stupid question... but did you happen to install another keyboard?
I installed Swype and lost haptic, even though it was enabled. I cant remember if I unchecked/checked it or if I checked/unchecked haptic in the "stock" keyboard but one or the other fixed my issue.
Thought I'd throw it out there.

@jbdan I'm wondering if I will have to. Just checked and it doesn't vibrate when ringing nor receiving messages (the settings indicate that it should be)

@trendiggity no keyboards installed and I just checked, the N5 doesn't vibrate when it rings/messaged.

No problem doing an RMA for my N5. Already shipped.

Title says it all, but it's still vague as hell. Vibrate problems on ringing/notification? Haptic feedback in general? Elaboration is your friend.
Staying on post, I didn't notice any vibration issues while I had it turned on, but its since been turned off to conserve battery life.
I have this problem all the time, Im vague for everything without realizing it. I meant vibrate for notifications. I tried turning it on in settings but nothing.
If you want it to vibrate for your text messages you must go into the settings in the messaging app and turn it on as well as in the global settings. Same for email i believe.
Well, that did it. thank you very much.
thx that helps me too.
I just want to chime in on this situation and say that I had the same problem on my completely stock evo shift. One moment it worked perfectly and the next it didn't. After several attempts at checking settings and hard/soft resetting, come to find out it was a faulty motor in mine that worked when it wanted to. Had my phone replaced at the sprint store after a supposed cleaning fixed it and then failed again after 3 vibrating notifications. Just another possible resolution/observation.

Actually I have the opposite problem, I cannot disable notifications vibration ( for messages ) on MIUI ... but I found out this was caused by the apps settings ( Fb messanger / Wechat / What'sup )

[Q] notifcations won't vibrate, any fix?

I recently just flashed the embryo 5.4 rom and its a great but the only problem is I can't make the notifcations vibrate for anything. I've made sure the vibrate function is enabled everywhere ( under the settings, messaging app, etc) the intensity is all the way up and still nothing. I also have the vibrate on screen tap funtion on and that doesn't seem to work either. I've flahsed this over twice already, no reboots fix it. I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any idea how to fix it? I've searched around on here and the web but no answers

Not sure if this ROM has profiles, but I had a similar problem with CM9 a while back. Turns out I had enabled a nighttime profile by accident, and everything was set as normal, except I had vibrate disabled for notifications. Once I disabled and deleted all those profiles, everything was back to normal.
Ive been having the same issue with only SMS notifications. All others will sound/vibe normally.
Flash 5.0 base = working vibe on sms
Update 5.4= no vibe on sms
Any possible solution? Md5 checks OK.

My vibration doesn't work in Cm!

Well I have been using oneplus one for a few days and realized it is not vibrating at all. I thought it was defected but it vibrates on startup and when using TWRP recovery. Really don't want to factory reset. You think this is problem with cyanogen mod? If I install another rom will it fix it? Really like cyanogen though... If I don't wipe data when flashing new rom will I still have all my apps and data or will I still need to use titanium backup?
Any help in fixing this without new rom or reset? I fixed permissions already. Is there a file you can edit to adjust vibration settings? I am rooted, bootloader unlocked, and have TWRP installed.

First thing, always wipe data when switching ROMs, always. Not wiping data is opening the door to a world of problems. Now, when you say it isn't vibrating do you mean for phone calls, notifications, what exactly?
Transmitted via Bacon
It is not vibrating at all in cyanogen mod. At all! For phone, notifications, touch, everything! It only vibrates when you turn it on or within twrp
Sent from my One using XDA Free mobile app
Ok, I have to ask a stupid question, but you do have vibration enabled right? If so, then I'd suggest you perform a factory reset.

Yes I do, under settings it is, on quick settings it is, under SwiftKey it is.

I'd try a factory reset. You're not running a custom kernel are you?

I think this is bug from profiles or quiet hours. The link to cyanogen mod bug-
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-467
I have owned OPO for few days and probably on 2nd day I lost the vibration. This was driving me crazy for last few days, :silly: I even raised a ticket with OPO hardware thinking the motor is shot but then I can see that the phone vibrates on bootup. I recently came across someone saying that the file sys/devices/virtual/timed_output/vibrator/enable value staying as 0 is causing the motor to not work. Come to think of it, I started using profiles and quiet hours from next day.
I don't know if there's a workaround editing the enable file value to 1? I think my notification LED light is also not working cause of the issues with quiet hours.

I believe the factory reset works but I have just moved all of my apps (200+) and data to my new OPO. I am not very enthusiastic about re-doing the whole setup. Fingers crossed and hopefully Cyanogen team will fix it very soon. If you like it fixed too, please register with jira.cyanogen and vote for this issue. It might get more attention. :fingers-crossed:

I had the same issue. It was just the quiet hours misbehaving. It was showing me enabled in my quick tiles and disabled in the settings and the tile wasn't responding to the clicks.
Here is how I solved it:
1) Reset the tiles and readded quiet hours thinking that it would respond but it didn't (so not a necessary step but no harm in trying).
2) Went in the quiet hours settings and clicked on enforce quiet hours.
3) Now tried clicking on the notification toggle and it responded and turned off but the "enforce quiet hours" in settings hadn't.
4) Unticked it in settings too and my vibration is back.
Loving this so much. For people who got same issue even after factory reset, you may be doing the same mistake again.
Hope this helps.

If the phone vibrates on reboot, changing this setting will bring back the vibration.
Good luck!

Had enabled quiet hours from notification panel by mistake and then no more vibration. After a half a day of research and deciding whether to reflash 33R found this thread on OPO forums. Followed all your steps and it worked like a charm.
You are a life saver. Thank you so much!!!!

Google Keyboard update?

Hey,
A little back story-the S7 i bought in April 1 was all nice, then the buttons would not respond so i took it to samsung's shop and they updated it. The google keyboard vibration intensity decreased noticeably.
Then I did another system update recently, it decreased once again.
Overnight i did the mistake of connecting it to the WiFi and it updated the google keyboard app, completely removing any feel of vibration for the keyboard. Samsung keyboard vibration and other vibration stuff works, just not google keyboard (even though it is checked in the app's settings and seemingly allowed in permissions)...
does anyone know how to fix this? I reinstalled hte app but no go...
+1 for this issue.
I am having this problem also, do you mind to share the software version of your SGS7 with us? I have got Super-Man ROM V1.4.
I have tried Gkey on my M9(MM) and Haptic feedback works, so I think it is reasonable to conclude that this is some kinda compatibility issue.
And we can do nothing to do about it other than installing old version.
Don't know if it relates to this issue, but, I am using Google Japanese Input also, and that haptic feedback doesn't work also.
What vibration strength on keypress do you have set?

I'm using the latest updated stock everything, so much so the update check i did moments ago said i was up to date (hope this helps).
Oddly enough the stock keyboard haptic works, so it has to be a google keyboard issue too.

System default, but changing it doesnt do anything
update! I solved it, rather annoyingly however.
In the system settings, under vibration, notifications vibration is the one that should NOT be zero for google keyboard to vibrate. I have no clue why they combined it with that, but changing the notification vibration settings seemed to bring back the vibration for google keyboard. However this also means my phone vibrates whenever i get a text

Haptic feedback issue happening across multiple devices (related to Google Account)

This is one hell of a issue that I've never read about online but somehow I'm experiencing.
To make a long story short, a few months ago I bought a OnePlus 6T, after some heavy modding something went wrong and had to hard reset. For some reason, haptic feedback stopped working and never turned back one. Since I was still within the two months that Amazon warrants during christmas season, I asked for a refund and bought another OnePlus 6T of a different colour from a different store (for a much lesser price). Even the new OnePlus 6T had an issue with haptic feedback, when I first turned the phone on, during the setup, the haptic was there, but then after logging in in my Google account (which of course happens pretty early in the setup) again it stopped working.
It is NOT an hardware issue, becuase the feedback works when I receive notifications or a call, but it doesn't work when typing on the keyboard or while navigating the system (or even when I move the slider to vibration which should emit a light feedback).
Since I was tired of asking for a refund, I just kept the phone as is.
Fast forward a few months and today I pick up my new, beautiful and amazing, OnePlus 7 Pro and guess what... THE ISSUE IS STILL THERE.
The haptic was working fine while first setting up the phone, but after the Google log-in, now once again it only works with notifications and not with the keyboard (I tried both Google Keyboard and Swift key) or the alert slider.
YES, vibration is turned ON in the setting.
NO, the phone is not in battery saving mode.
YES, i've tried rebooting a few times
Anyone has any idea why the hell this keeps happening to me and how I could fix it?
Did you try turning on haptic feedback in the Gboard settings?

I had a haptic feedback issue with my Huawei P30. Haptic feedback setting was switched on in Gboard settings but it wasn't providing any haptic feedback in the actual keyboard. Turns out I had to go to Settings-->Sounds-->More sound settings and turn "Vibrate on touch" on. I think you might have already tried something like this but it seems like there's a system-level switch that overrides app-level haptic feedback settings.
If it doesn't work, try using a different launcher like Nova and see if it works. It might be able to override some system-level haptic feedback setting on your phone.
Galaxy note 10+ 5g here, tried all suggestions I found with the keywords I searched. If anyone has fixed this or has any insight, I'd appreciate hearing your experience.
My solution was to disable accessibility feature "Select to read". After I disabled it haptic feedback was working again.
Try to disable any of your accessibility features.
