Getting Pie on the Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking to get the pie feature on the nexus 5 to take advantage of the 5 inch screen. So is there a method to get it on the phone now or any roms that are out that have it already built into them?
For those that want to know, yes I have root and TWRP installed on my phone.

[Q] How to get back Stock 4.4.2

I have a 16GB Nexus 5 that is rooted with Cyanogenmod 11 M5 Snapshot. However, I recently wanted to switch back to stock+rooted. I do not have a backup of when I had stock android, so that option is out. Is there any way to get stock android back?

[Q] Nexus 5 Upgrade from v4.4.4 to v5.02

There are lots of posts but none that answer my question.
Coming from rooted stock v4.4.4 and unlocked bootloader on a Nexus 5:
Is it best to unroot & lock it down, then do the OTA's and then re root and unlock to get stock v5.02?
OR
Do I save myself countless steps and just format and flash a non stock v5.02 rom?
As much as I apreciate all of the hard work of the custom rom dev's, With the Nexus 5 it's the first device I've been quite happy with stock and xposed and not feeding the flashaholic I used to be.
Surely someone has been down this road and could offer sugestions.
Thank you for your time.

First, there is no 5.0.2 stock firmware. If you're 100 stock now with only root just unroot then take the ota. If you've got modified system files then flash the 4.4.4 system.img. There is no need to lock the device.
Oh, and there is no xposed for 5.x

Root?

Been looking around to see if there are any legit root methods available yet for the Pixel. So far, I've found this: http://www.technobuzz.net/root-google-pixel-xl/ anyone know if this is legit? Are there any legit methods yet?

From what I've seen there isn't a version of TWRP for the Pixel yet, however I'd love to be proven wrong.

I am also looking for a method....
The one with magisk works generally (tested on nexus 5x) but it needs twrp and there is still no working version for the pixel. however, i found this post: http://www.droidforums.net/threads/twrp-already-on-the-pixel.291391/ so it souldn't need a long time until it's available....

He also stated that TWRP cannot handle the new file encryption yet, so .zips would need to be uploaded in recovery which is wonky for some, as well as the dual system partition fiasco is not handled yet. So *soon* might be more like a few weeks...
Out of curiosity, what are you guys wanting to do with root? First thing I'm going to do is replace system emojis with iOS ones.
As of 10/20, from the source:

This is the first device with Android's new partition layout. Having looked at the firmwares and at running devices (remotely), I have some ideas on how to do it.
However, it will be a while before I have SuperSU fixed up. The changes will be quite a bit of work and testing, and doing so remotely will make that take significantly longer. So I'm just going to wait for my own device, but as they aren't available in my country, it has to be shipped from another country and go through customs. I don't expect my device to arrive for another week or two.
In the meantime, it's always possible someone else releases root for it.
I saw @jcase and @Dees_Troy have been playing with TWRP, to me it seems wholly possible to fix that up (mostly) as well. But even if TWRP is released tomorrow, using the existing SuperSU ZIP will not work on it, due to all the breaking changes in Android 7.1.

Indeed. Once chainfire gets his device, things should begin to roll along much quicker.
I was excited to get the pixel to give into my flashaholic tendencies with reckless abandonment. Sad to see there is no root method available. Went back to my s7 edge for now. I'll get back to my pixel when I can tinker... This pixel sure ain't the Nexus I've grown to know and love. ?

I assume that the dual system layout partition could play a big role in why TWRP/Root isn't ported yet. Every method has to be adapted to that solution so far as it is new. Though TWRP is already being worked and it's only a question of time XD.

@jcase Does the dePixel8 method break Android Pay? Also, does it give you root access, or do I still need to apply root after the dePixel8 (and if so, how?)

This doesn't exactly unlock your bootloader. It breaks whatever VZW put on there to block bootloader unlock. After running this you will need to use adb to unlock the bootloader yourself just like a GS version or a nexus. No, this will not give you root. But typically a bootloader unlock is necessary to achieve root. Root methods have not been released yet. Chain Fire has achieved system less root but it's not ready for release.
Also, no depixel8 does not break android pay. Unlocking your bootloader after applying depixel8 will break android pay. Google has prevented android pay from working of your bootloader is unlocked.
Do you read the XDA articles or just post on the forums?

Does the s8+ have a locked Bootloader?

You can pretty much give up on xposed for N. Maybe all together. The dev is just more focused on real life and google keeps closing the security holes that things like xposed uses. Also he would already be working with the android O code

This is my first Samsung device since the S4 I knew this bootloader is locked, my question is once there's an exploit for root and we are able to flash ROMs through flashfire is it an easy method? I always used twrp, and if I wanted to go back to stock or something messed up how would I restore everything? Please and thank you

Question New 7Pro - advice on how to proceed with rooting?

Hello!
Just got my 7P from the Black Friday sale (I'm in Europe so a friend who was flying in got it for me).
Still haven't turned it on. Question: should I update first, then root? Or root first, then update?
Maybe it's a silly question and the answer is "update first because updating will remove rooting anyhow", but I don't know if they have maybe changed something lately and rooting is more difficult or whatever...
Thanks!
Yu can always update your phone, some you will, before and after root
So if it's all the same I guess I'll update first or I'll have to re-root...
You can update to beta & then root. No worries. However, If you want to install a custom rom, you may want to stay on 12 until checking the requirements of the ROM.

If you want to update while keep root you can use Pixel Flasher.
i gonna suggest to disable dm-verity at the first time as well, so if in the future you opt to use custom kernel (which i think, you should) you wont need to wipe your phone

Yeah, custom ROMs lie in the future for now... but coming from OnePlus I am familiar with official ROM/fw requirements for them, thanks!

Running newest beta just released ..I got pixel to root and stuff..Phones are boring now ..But I gotta figure it out soon as I get time .Just haven't had time yet
When I got mine, before I even inserted the SIM, I connected to WiFi and updated Android and Google Play, then I inserted the SIM, ran through the setup quickly, unlocked bootloader, rebooted and rooted using Pixel Flasher, wiping Veritas and Verification. That way for any future updates, I would be set to flash with PF, moving forward and that has been very simple
Thanks, awesome. Sounds like a great tool, wish there was something like that for OnePlus!
