Was having random reboots so decided to restore a backup from early in the week.
When I wiped data and cash before restoring I got a strange message I have never seen before.
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Said the same thing when I tried to wipe again.
Just wondering if this is a problem or if its normal and somehow never saw it before.
It's referencing partition 2 on that mmc device. Why it can't mount it and what it's trying to do by mounting it though are beyond me. Maybe manually unmount/remount it in CWM and see if it works?
Repartition the SD card.
I was planning on formatting the internal memory at some point. Really should have just formated from the start but I was stoked about my first rom flash on Gtab so o put it off. My main question is: does this have something to do with the security risk that was exposed recently? If so I will take all measuress necessary to fix my tab...

Nope. Not at all. Some G-Tablets are affected by a problem that corrupts the data partition, and repartitioning fixes that.
When I wipe my Dalvik Cache I get the following message on the screen:
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Is this normal?
That's normal. I believe the reason for that is because you don't have an ext4 partition on your SD.
what are you trying to do if i may know to help?

Should I have an ext4 partition on my SD? What are the benefits?
/sd-ext does not exist for our phones. Totally normal that you get an error.
Supposedly it speeds up your app cache on sd card read times, but unless you have a really fast card, I don't really see the benefits. Used to be more useful before the Froyo days.

Didn't dsexton702 have an ext4 converter for the SD card as well? It was back then before he even released ICBINB Froyo.

Yeah it's for the apps2sd partition of the sd card. Should still be around somewhere.

I am running Raver's Octane ROM which is based off of Gingerbread. I haven't had any problems running the ROM so far and am quite happy with it. But just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. So, I guess what I'm asking is, if it's ok to run as is or should I convert my sdcard?
You don't need ext4 on your SD card. 95% the custom ROMs on this forum practically have ext4 (lagfix) built into it already.
Hello!
I just noticed today that my sdcard partition is only 2gb (see screenshot). Even when I mount it on my computer, it still shows up as 2gb. How can I change it back to the full 10gb?
Thanks for your help!

Well, thats odd... Changing the partition size requires S-OFF - something we dont have on the S yet.
I would try reinstall whatever ROM youre on, and if that fails - format data, system, cache, dalvik-cache and try another ROM.
Thanks for the reply! I tried reflashing the ROM, but that did not help. I'll try to find time to do a full wipe this weekend and see what happens.
What does windows say about its size?
U sure you don't have a Chinese clone? Lol could be a possibility
OK. Did a full wipe and reflashed the ROM. Now I have the full 10gb back. Strange how that happened.
Yes... Very odd indeed. Well, good thing it got resolved

This is actually a bug in the recovery TWRP. I found out it was a bug by looking at the changelog for TWRP 2.4.1.0 and one of the changes was a fix for accidentally making the SD card partition 2gb.
Just for the people wondering what it was.

Where did you do a full wipe from? Bootloader? the regular settings? TWRP, if so which option?
Hello, I have had experience with a Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, while skipping the Nexus 4 to try out the SG3, I have returned to the Google Experience.
I remember having partitioned the S and GS to have an Internal Memory, thus also allowing me to ADB push to its home, as well as being able to drag NDBackups to my computer.
With the Nexus 5, part one was unlock, recovery, and root. I have successfully done so, though having to mess with directories to grab SuperUser for some reason- this should not have affected /sd card.
I could not successfully adb push SU.zip/ sdcard, and
a)view /sdcard on my pc
b)install zip from SDcard and see the file, there was /0 /legacy and /oob
I have googled, I have searched to the best of my keywording abilities, and find answers on Why Nexus doesnt have sd articles, and other things like Nexus 4 and 7 results that don't help.
So if anyone would mind, giving me instructions to create or open the partition, I would appreciate it.
You need to be booted into recovery first. Then mount /sdcard from the recovery menu.
If you can't mount /sdcard, mount /data and push to /data/media/0

UI didn't get a mount /sdcard option at all to touch or select, which is strange. I did however download clockword MLD and found an option to partition SDCard. I'm going to see if that mad a change and post back. Thanks rootsu
The push method helped a lot. Love the learning experience

Wait? You're not going to "partition sdcard" are you? DON'T

Dude, treat it as it was a Galaxy Nexus. Haven't had any problems with adb on both.

Thats what I did, is there a reason I should not. During my GS3 days, my Nexus ways became rusty. Nothing bad has happened yet, not that I have noticed. BTW, yes, the mount /data helped.
Anyways, what about the CWM option to -mount USB Storage
That doesn't seem to operate. Is this how it is for the N5?

Jeez, man really? You're lucky it seems to do nothing. This is for phones with an external sdcard with small internal memory (200MB for example) where it takes the external sdcard and creates an ext partition on it. This is NOT for your phone. Please never touch this again. Lucky you didn't do harm!

The nexus 5 isn't a USB storage device.

Hmm then I'm very out of the loop. I've been able to access the SD card and internal memory I'm sure from cwm in the past.
I figured since my Nexus S had a /sdcard that's what the partition was for. Glad it didn't brick, but I wonder if it did anything at all? I guess I'll find out or not at all. Agian, thanks.

It probably did nothing. You would next have been asked what size partition you want to make so if that didn't happen, sounds like it simply failed

It asked, but nothing happened. I think it just got confused and looked at me weird.
Probably as you don't have a dedicated /advanced partition - but its lucky

Does the data partition formatted to F2FS cause random reboots? I cant seem to narrow it down to anything else. Every nougat rom i tried so far seems to random reboot 3-4 times a day with clean installs. What file format is recommended for custom roms on this phone?
you need a custom kernel for that i think, i thin firekernel has support.
idk tho i dont have experience with it
I believe that ext4 is the stock filesystem type for the data partition, I've never changed it.
Actually, the stock ROM has the data partition formatted as F2FS. It's one of the factors in making the lower end processor seem as fast and snappy as it is.
You can check it in TWRP recovery. Go to advanced wipe and check the formatting for the data partition.

Hmm... Your right, a quick look at mount in the terminal confirms that. Sorry, my bad.
Now that we know that, I guess the F2FS file system type is probably not the cause of your issues.

Yes. I've tried different combinations of partitions formatted to f2fs and it would only work using data as F2FS. Im using the newest aosp extended. Maybe this rom will fix my reboot problems. I am new to this phone coming from a falcon. I know one thing, i am not enjoying moto display. The screen seems to turn on when you dont want it to all the time. I miss my notification LED.
