[Q] Dust between glass and shell... - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting some dust stuck between the glass and shell around the edges of my phone. I don't suppose anyone happens to know of an ingenious way to get rid of it that I haven't thought of yet? Not a big deal, or all that noticeable, just a bit OCD on my end. Thanks.

Try a SUPER ULTRA soft toothbrush or something of that nature. You can also try using scotch tape to lift the dirt out.
But all in all, the best way to prevent this from happening is, of course, a case.
(I'd suggest a Spigen Ultra Hybrid)

Steinheil how do I remove it?

I need to remove the bubbles from my install but I don't know how to take it off.
Thanks!

if its an app that you have downloaded then keep your finger pressed on it until it gives you some options. Delete will be one of them or you could download an apps uninstaller.
Sorry should have mentioned it was a screen protector.

place a piece of tape onto the screen protector, make sure a bit of it does not stick to it, pull it upwards and the screen protector should lift of.
Do it near the edge, but have the tape go towards center of screen.
Hey which steinheil do u have? Can u tell me if its good? Why do u want to remove it? Does it left many fingerprints on it and are they easy to remove? Is there a rainbow effect when it gets wet or fatty?
Im thinking about buying one too.

Hi,
So far so good. I rushed putting this one on and it is not straight! It is great though, but does get the rainbow from my fingers sometimes. A quick wipe on my short and I'm good to go.

I find that with protectors that have been in a while I need to pull away and up to get the tape method to work.
Freshly put on ones come up easily though.

If you're using a cheap thin protector, the sgp's are a good upgrade.
There are plenty of reviews in these forums ans youtube though!
I have the Ultra Clear, and you get the occasional rainbow and fingerprint. It's much less than the cheaper ones I've had before though.
A quick wipe gets rid of most prints too. Unlike one protector I had that would just smudge them around the screen.

Isn't the screen on the N1 glass?
From the idrops website: "Carefully squeeze one to four drops onto the plastic, polycarbonate, or acrylic surface of your device"
http://www.wirelessground.com/saguaki.html
Has anyone tried this? Does it work?
If you read the end it states "not use on touch screen displays"
I guess i wont risk my baby..

iDrops, and most other scratch removers, are only for plastics... not glass, which is what your N1 screen is. You'll either create microscratches on the screen or remove part of the top coating on the screen.
i used t-cut glass polish on my nexus it got rid of the scratch i got when i stupidly put my phone in the same pocket as my keys
and a chamois leather is great for stubborn finger prints
To be honest, any mild abrasive would probably do. It's not as if the N1 has any anti-reflective coating or anything. Even a simple toothpaste and microfiber cloth would do the trick.
I find toothpaste is great at removing light scratches, won't cost you anything either.

What is a result?
Try PlastX from meguiers. Ived used it and its safe. Try in a corner of the screen first. Be sure its clean. Rub gently with a cotton fiber towel, not a bathroom towel.

Best advice I can give is to buy new housing package.research the installation because it's a little tricky

Steinhail screen film keeps separating

I put steinhail ultra on for 4 weeks and I noticed that the corners were parted and it won't stick to the screen anymore. Is that normal, or is there a fix for that?
I had those on my droid X. I think installation is key. I had one corner that tended to pull up too but I was pretty sure it was because I messed the install up.
Edit: this is just a thought but you might try peeling a corner back by using a card to pull it up, then use scotch tape to get any dust off.
Been using Steinheil ultra crystal for about 4 months, no issues with the screen staying flat. Maybe you have a defective protector?

I tried the tape method several times, but it did not help...maybe it really is defective? Do they have warranty on these?
I have had the same one on since they came out. It is starting to lift a bit around the edges but it is not peeling back or unbearable.
Their site does reference a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" i would just contact them and work it out to get it replaced.

I'm a zagg man myself. The only time I've had a problem was when I messed the install up a bit.

My first experience with Zagg was terrible. And I'm not a big favorite of how their screen protector looks. Took forever to lose those BestBuy Reps who were insisting that you should have one.

Just checking, cause nobody is mentioning Gorilla glass. Is that not all it's cracked up to be? (no pun intended, at least at first.) Or, like me, did you not know it was on the phone? I really don't know how good it is, but it seems to be better at protecting from scratches than from breakage. No scratches on mine so far, and I am not using any protector.

I know about it, but even with gorilla glass you still get scratches that are hardly visible with the screen on, but clearly visible when you reflect it to a light source.
And there's no harm to put on extra protection. Only benefits.
It's like a condom...we all know how to prevent pregnancy (coitus interruptus), but you need a safeguard...

[Q] Repair scratched edge

Hi!
I dropped my phone on a solid ground and scratched the top part of the Samsung Galaxy S2 edge.
is there any good way to repair this so it isnt as visible as it is now?
I hope someone can help and give me a tip on a way to do it.
This is not the screen itself but the sourrounding edges.
Whoa..Okay.. Well there is some methods to Fix that, You should try:
1) Nail polish- yeah that could sound funny , but you can always try hiding the scratches with clear nail polish remover.
2) Turtlewax- You should try that, it Repairs car scratches, PSP, MP3 player's etc. You should try that too.
GoodLuck with that! Have a Great Day!

You can just get a case for it - scratches covered. My Evo is the same way - chipped all to pieces around the corners. I still keep it naked though, I prefer it without a case/screen protector.
Maybe I'm just strange.

Crumbs getting lodged down side of screen?

Is this annoying the hell out of anyone else? The gap is so fine not even a pin gets them out. A needle only works sometimes. Any fixes?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Same problem with me man, I dont even know where they came from, its in the bottom bezel of mine, I managed to clean most of it out with a safety pin but if you look really close you can still see them
I use a piece of paper to slide through it. Works well for me
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Might try to use a can of compressed air too.
So it's not just me, then!
Ah, it's good to hear that I'm not the only person with problems over the industrial design of the N5. I hate the nasty sharp edge round the screen! The N4 feels so much nicer in the hand. And it doesn't fill up with muck around the bezel.
Hahahaha just the thought of you eating a sandwich and crumbs falling onto the phone.
But yeah I got various bits of dust/ crumbs in the bottom bezel. Like they said, a piece of paper or a pin worked pretty well. Still an annoying oversight.
Had the same going on. Just used a small needle and all is good.
Canned air works great or if you have a case on it like the Spigen hybrid like I do, you could just blow on it really close and are able to push a lot of air pressure against the case.
Thanks for the paper tip!

I might ruin yours and everyone elses day here, but what about between the lens and the plastic casing around the camera.. that's what's bugging me at the moment there must be some variations in build quality, because NOTHING can get down the side of my screen, even paper creases.
Always use the edge of a piece of paper to get dust/lints/crumbs out from the edges. IMO using a needle/pin will eventually enlarge that gap and cause more crap to get stuck in there.

Also, a needle has potential to scratch if not used carefully.
