Mistakes Google made in kit kat. - General Topics

Hello guys,
I am on android kit kat right now and I can tell you many reasons why it is poor cosmetically.
First it looks like they took jelly bean and slapped a kit kat wrapper on it:
Look at the settings app, it has some blue colored toggles. Wait...... The new stock color base is white. What gives?
Now, the transparency issues. I like the transparent status bar a lot. But slide down the notification center. Its solid. That's right solid, they should make it transparent so the UI actually go in sync.
That's all i can think of right now. So anyone with a nexus or running a custom rom comment below if they think something is a little off in Googles new OS.

Yes, its not perfect, but its getting there. Im sure when they hit 5.0 they will implement a lot more continuity into Android.
I suppose its Google just testing the water

Someone will create a CM theme that fits 4.4 KK theme.
It's not perfect but I personally enjoy it.

I think the biggest mistake I did google both have chosen to no longer support the galaxy nexus.

[req] dark grey status bar from stock jelly bean

Hi I'm running cleanrom 4.5 which is built off the latest Verizon jb leak but Scott changed the status bar to black so I was wondering if anyone had made a file I could flash in twrp to go back to the dark gray bar bc I actually really like it at the moment. I did see it is an option in the kinda crap mods so I may try it that way but it has alot more options than i need and I'd have to swap recoveries first since it says twrp doesn't install it correctly.
Thanks
-Chris
TWRP installs kindacrap mods just fine. It's all I use.

Thanks! I gave it a try but it added an icon to my status bar that I couldn't figure out what it was or how to make it go away. Its like a sideways square with an x inside and what looks like sound waves coming off it. I also tried kinda crap mod and it didn't have that icon but it gave me a permanent ongoing wifi notification whenever I'm connected to WiFi. I nandroided back to stock cleanrom 4.5 for now. Do you know how to remove that icon?
Thanks
Using kinda crap mods instead. You can choose which color bar you want, plus a lot of other things.

Android 5.0's new colour scheme

until android 3.0 The previous colour scheme for android was green (battery icon for example) until android 3.0 honeycomb came along .since then until this day its been a rather sexy blue. What do you think google will do with the next 5.0 key lime pie . stick with blue or go for a LIME GREEN
OPINIONS??

Please stick with the blue unless they are going for a white/black transparent look like on MIUI.

That is very true more than likely it will be 5.0 because when its a major update they usually do it. Like ics to jb

Any UI with an excess amount of greenish color probably looks bad.

But i kind of thought that about blue and now i love it. they cant keep it blue forever..or can they?
Sent from my Nexus 4
I really think they should do transparancy sort of deal, but keep the blue deal. blue is indeed a cool color and very easy on the eyes (in my oppinion). But lets see what they do, im sure it will look nice and neat. Like jb was compared to ics. I cant wait to see the integration with google chrome and google now/search. =)
It will be based of green and an orange red color.
I'd like to see transparent with different colours for different events; use the prime colours like they do with the Nexus logo and LWP.
How about finally putting in custom coloring we have had it for years with ROMs Google needs to finally code it in

Why not in 5.0 just give us the option to choose how hard could it be.

I remember reading some where that Google hired the webos guy to sort the design out for android. So we could see a touch of that flavour in there somewhere.
He also commented that android is only smear 30% (if I remember correctly) complete in its design. Basically expect big changes!
Had a quick look for the article but can't find it.
Holo and blue match great to ICS and jelly bean, :good:
I just think what would it look like in green...
i want to see a complete overhaul of the UI.

That will never happen. It dilutes the brand and you lose the identity. There's a reason Apple and Google don't support "skins".

Matias Duarte has been with Google since around the Honeycomb release. He has had his hands on ICS and especially Jelly Bean. But that doesn't mean he is going to start radically changing colors. I think Android has moved away from the cartoonish look since Matias has been at Google. And I don't expect that to change but to continue progressing (by keeping things more simple/flat and muted).
I love green as in pure GB!!!

Android and brand identity don't go together . There is no brand identity. Every app looks different and you can easily add in some color choices and stay within the holo standards.

How about same color scheme, but with a unified ui, Google now, phone, messaging, music, play, etc are all different.

I'm talking about Android brand identity. They aren't going to make colour themes. It makes zero sense for them to do so.

Moving Notifications to the Top?

Hello XDA geniuses,
As the title states, I was looking for a way to move my notifications to the top, like I have on my Galaxy S3. It's become a habit to look at the top and swipe down to reveal notifications and was hoping there'd be a way to do this on my 8013.
I'm currently running Revolution HD 8.0 and Nova Launcher.
I did search for an answer before posting, and although I get many identical posts returned, most of them directing me to posts saying "Sorry, can't do it" and "Only if you're rooted", but nothing explaining how.
I appreciate any help with this situation and hopefully this can help others also looking to find a fix.
Thanks again.
Notification on top is called phone ui
No you can't do it in stock rom even if ur rooted.
You have to install asop based rom to have what u need.
However if I have enough knowledge then u can use xposed mod to create a new one.
Or u can try to port note 8 rom

Yup Im running PAC on my 8013 in Phablet mode an my noties are on top. I like it as it let me have 7 Nav buttons and I feel like Im using the space instead of just wasting it.

Ah isn't the PAC Rom AOKP based?
Staying on the ROM I'm currently on, is there a quick way of doing that? No app or anything?
Thanks for the help guys
Nope your locked into Samsungs view of what your tablet should be....

Which ROMs have network speed in the status bar? or how to implement it?

I know PAC man and beans tw ROM have this feature. Pacman 4.3 had it and beans v19. I would have swore that I saw another aosp ROM with it but can't remember the name. I liked pacman but the layout of everything is way different than what I'm used to and it has a Tom of features I don't use at all. Slim has been my favorite but lacks this one feature. Does any one know of other ROMs that show network speed in the status bar?
Thanks oh and I realize there are a Tom of apps that do something very similar but having it in the status bar just makes sense to me. Most apps I tried don't put it in the status bar or the text is too small. Perfect system monitor works great and mini network monitor but again I'd like it to be part of the ROM.

Does anyone know how I can add it to a 4.3 ROM without it?
So far...
JellyBeans 19
Beanstalk - has both up and doen - I couldn't read them well with my old eyes.
PacMan
Carbon
Wen u say signall speed u mean speed measure in kb or mb?? And have u tired looking for modules for it instead of roms?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541

Yep I don't caste where in the status bar as long as it's an option. I prefer it next to the signal display.

Transparent Launcher for Non-rooted Phones?

Is there a basic launcher that allows trasparency on non-rooted Nexus 5? I used Holo Beta from the playstore before but it does not seem to work on Kit Kat. 4.4.2
Thanks folks!

I think you need more details than this? If you're non-rooted, does that mean you are on stock ROM as well?
If you're on stock, the base standard out-of-the-box launcher supports transparent navigation bar and status bar? You can't get much more basic than out-of-the-box!
If you don't mean navigation bar and status bar, which transparency are you referring to?
Or do you mean "basic" as in lighter and simpler than the stock launcher?
Action launcher
All of the major launchers have transparent top and bottoms. If not download nova beta, apex, etc. They should be up to date by now. My personal favorite is nova but it is your choice.
Hope this helps, please clarify if this is not what you were asking.
Yeah I kind of posted without checking what I wrote... Duh.... I meant transparent themes.... I was on carbon 4.2.2 on my galaxy s2. I may end up just rooting to get more goodies... I am loving stock right now. Got 4.5hours sot yesterday!
