Fast user switching / multiple users - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I still see the option for multiple users in supersu and super user, but I don't see that's user switching on the N5.

[Q] Multiple Users Accounts Possible?

Hey guys,
I just preordered the Asus Eee Pad, main use is not just for me, but for the family.
I was wondering if it's possible to have a selectable account when using the the Tablet, sorta like how Windows/OS X allows you to login and have your own specific "desktop" or in this case "Home" page?
Is this possible?
No seperate user accounts in the way windows has it, but you can tie seperate syncing/app accounts to 1 transformer.
i too think this would be a great feature, even if you dont have a "user selection" but rather different lockscreen patterns or pins. enter your personal pin or lockscreen pattern and it opens to your custom homescreens, caching, app data etc...
I would really like a multiple profile feature, but I think it'd have to be done at an Android OS level. I haven't seen anything like this for any tablet, though

i think a launcher could do it.
A Launcher could do it marginally well. You would have to manually switch profiles, and it would only affect what showed up in your app drawer and on you home screens.
It would have to be done on an OS level or individually for each app if you wanted different email account notifications based on user, or different settings based on user.
Theres no multi user support but your not the first to request it http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15030
It just seems like a feature that should be supported, no?
Hope to see this feature added in soon.
My transformer arrives today and I've been wandering about this.
Has anyone tried this/this
Slightly OT
Isn't this the initial process for the creation of bloatware?
More and more features requested.

GOSMS Timer???

I've been using GOSMS as my primary messenger for my Android phone for a while now. I also consistently have used the scheduled automatic backup built-in to GOSMS. As of the last couple of updates, I noticed they changed a lot of things, one of which is that I can no longer tell it WHEN I want the automatic update to run. It simply has an on/off switch and a time of daily/weekly/monthly. But I want it to go off at 12pm, not midnight, yet that's what it's defaulted to and I haven't been able to change it.
Does anyone know how to do this now?
Thx.

I cant help you, but i've all but given up on the go dev team. They completely ignore user feedback and feature requests and instead focus on adding bloat into their apps and working on themes instead of actual functionality. Good luck if you ever want to contact them to change anything.

Apps useful to REALLY improve performance and usability

I would like to start a new thread about applications that could really improve performance and usability of our device. This should be mainly for new owners of the phone and for whose who want to keep it simple. Also is an invite for those already pros on this device to give us some apps indications if they want to.
Let's forget about custom ROMs and mod. I mean some applications that could work even for those who want to keep standard, rooted or unrooted.
So I propose something like name of application, what it does, if needs root or not and personal opinion of the app.
I'll start with a few:
Volume+ Free - gives a boost to your sound - multimedia applications mainly. Gingerbread only, no root needed. Powerfull, the only one that really function, and being only an app and not a MOD won't stay into your phone, can be uninstalled like any app. Attention only - long use may impact on your speaker. Use wisely.
Phereo 3D - more 3D juice to our phone, no root needed. It's a great app giving you the possibility to see, share and upload 3D pictures. One app that won't be missing from my phone anymore.
AirDroid - it's an instant in browser phone manager, needs root. If you want to administrate, interact and write messages with your phone, hook up your pc and phone in same wifi and...forget about cables.
Rebooter - app to reboot your phone with various options, needs root. When you want to reboot, hot reboot, enter recovery menu this will do for you.
Fast reboot - app to make an instant reboot, by closing core programs and other stuffs and liberate memory, no root needed. Works fine, especially if you often find yourself with low memory.
Edit 19/07/2012
GPSFix - this one really worked for me.Almost instant fix- 2 seconds with no data connection. No root needed.Launch app, leave it run, hit HOME button and launch your preffered gps application. Be sure to be outside
For now these are my applications. I'll add more. Surely I've missed some of them but I only talk from experience.
Please be respectfull and share your opinions.

Multi user [GF955F] [8.0.0] [crb7] [root]

You will need a rooted device!!
If you are just like me who is mixing business and just personal on your Samsung Galaxy S8+, you will love the stock android function Multi user that you can log in to a different account on your phone and see different apps, pictures, settings, too bad it's disabled on touchwiz but you can reactivate it it's fairly easy. The mainly why i use it's fairly simple on my personal account my Facebook is loaded, Messenger, instagram and at my business on my my screen you can see e-mail, note's if i take pictures work related it will stay on that account.
DISCLAIMER - I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE DOESN'T WORK MAKE ALWAYS A BACKUP NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO! (learned this the hard way )
1. Use any root browser you like open it
2. Go to system folder
3. Edit file "build.prop"
4 Add
Code:
fw.max_users=3
fw.show_usersui=1
Explanations
fw.max_users : define how many users you want advice is 3 users and you will get the guest account so it will be a total off 4 users.
fw.show_userui : show the menu that you can change the user on top of notification bar and in the settings cloud and accounts you will see a new menu users.
Info on code and menu appearance.
This should work on fairly on every model and software to be honest to code never changed since 2013. ( if i remembered correctly) if you are experimenting with other roms and or phone's comment or send me a private message so i can make a list that the code works on that model - version
if this helped you don't forget to hit that thanks button!

How to switch user profile based on password / lockscreen pattern?

I just ran into an old thread here https://android.stackexchange.com/q...-profile-based-on-password-lockscreen-pattern and thought it would be a cool way to handle multiple users without having to select which user you want to use. Since that was posted years ago, do you think that would be possible to accomplish now?

I'm sure you can set up multiple user profiles/accounts and restrict what each profile has access to, but the part about automatically switching profiles based on the pass/pin that is entered, isn't going to happen, that couldn't even be done when the thread that you linked was originally posted. I think you missed the part saying that it still requires manually selecting/switching profiles.
Your idea would be convenient but it introduces security/vulnerability risks that android is designed to be protected from.
The pass/pin on the lockscreen does not lock/unlock user accounts or profiles, it locks/unlocks the device itself, the only pass/pin that has anything to do with user accounts on the device is the password that is entered when the account is first set up on the device and isn't re-entered unless the account is signed-out then signed back in.
But, there is a slight chance that you can get something like this set up if your device is rooted, with a rooted device, you can try the Tasker app or a similar app that us designed to set-up automated features/actions. Maybe you can use it to setup an automated process that switches accounts/profiles when a certain pass/pin is entered at lockscreen.
