Sprint users,
Has anyone figures out how to get the VVM app on our nexus?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I'm no longer with Sprint and I don't have my Nexus 5 yet, but in the past I was able to get it working on my old Optimus S running CM7 from a titanium backup I got from the original ROM. Its worth trying to pull it from a Sprint branded device (with app data) and importing to the Nexus. But I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't work.
It'd be nice if they made it a Play Store app like T-Mobile does.
Why doesn't Android have visual voicemail support built in? My Windows Phone had VVM neatly integrated. I love this phone, but it really surprised me that I had to download a 3rd party app to do this on Android

If you use Google voice, it does have visual voicemail like features, include free transcription.
You don't have to do full intergration or porting either. Just have Google voice handle your voicemail (launch google voice and walk thru' the steps to set it up as voicemail app)
I tried setting up Google Voice as voicemail only and didn't not work, when I dial number to provision *28..... Just tells me something about code not valid...

OK So I installed Google Voice and set it up only to handle my voicemail only. I suspect that Sprint was doing nothing more than using Google Voice to an extent, because when I installed Google Voice and set it up on my phone my Old Voicemail greeting was the greeting that I had. I had never used GV before on any of my old phones and when I set up my Nexus 5 I used the system standard. (I could be and most likely am wrong about this theory, just found it odd that the greeting was my old one from my old phone when I just used Sprint VMM app before)

The error when dialing *28 is tower specific - I ran into this when I was trying out youmail on sprint. Had to try out a few different towers before the *28 would take - be persistent.

New to android, and was wondering if there is an app that will do voicemail like iphone? I think evo has it.

Yeah, if I had to choose one thing I miss about my iPhone, it would be visual voicemail. Would definitely like to see a mod for it.
Google Voice
Google Voice is the best/free app that comes to my mind (works great for me), however I'm sure if you Google or just look for apps on the marketplace they shouldn't be hard to find...
the best visual voicemail app ive found is called youmail
I use Google voice for visual voicemail.

Visual voicemail by Fusion
There is an app called visual voicemail. It is made by Fusion. Works great for me. I used it with Windows mobile. Had an account back then. I even get faxes to my cell number. All free when I signed up with Windows Mobile.
I don't think this belongs in the development section
this definitely belongs in general. keep the development section open for roms and fixes etc.
Anyone else think we need a q&a sections like some of the other phones?
Unfortunately for those of us that use Google Apps they left us in the dust on Google Voice.

Yes, Google Voice is pretty good. Its about as close to iphone visual voicemail as you're gonna get on the Captivate.
Plus I kind of like the transcribed voicemail emails.
How do I use that instead of att
voicemail?
Sorry for a noob q??

Log into your google account on your computer. Find google voice on google's site. There is an option to use google voice for just voice mail. There will also be instructions for setting up your phone to forward voice mails to your google voice account. When you are all done wth that, download google voice from the market and go through its options.
I did all that and google voice works seamlessly for my voice mail.
Just open another google accountunder the same email. Problem solved

Damn. I didn't know you could do that. I started another account under a different name because the market wouldn't work with my apps name.

Problem NOT solved because it's still a different account with a new contact list.
Your google voice account does not have to be the same as your primary account. I have a google apps account that I use as my primary account for contacts, email and calendars. I have a second account that I use for the market and google voice. It works fine.

But none of your Voice stuff syncs with the main account.
First off, I thought Google apps would be easier to find on the Android market... my god was it not. Second, I notice this phone has a visual voicemail feature... but then you can go and setup google voice. I was able to enable Visual Voicemail, set google voice as my primary voicemail... but now when I click my voicemail tab under Phone its just a white screen...
Do i actually have to use the Google Voice app? I thought Android would have more voice integration than this...
any assistance on making Google Voice my primary voicemail?

Visual VM app will only work with Tmobile VM, so in order for you to use Google Voice VM you need to use google voice app and if you like you can use one of the google voice widgets but you can not use Visual vm in sense with google voice
hope this helps
What are you ranting about!
Go to the market, search for "google", pick any app that is from "google inc", slide down & click on "view more applications". How hard is that!
As for VVM, first and foremost, it's a carrier-side service. Go rant there.

LMAO nap time?
You don't need VVM with GV. The voice app gives you transcribed VM and highlights the words as you play it. I put a shortcut to GV on my homescreen and viola.
Just change your vm number to your googlevoice number and u will be good to go

i set my dad up with a nexus s 4g the other week. he already had an evo shift and used gv as his vm provider, but when i went to set it up on his ns4g it did not give me any options to keep his number. normally when i set it up the first screen asks me if i want to integrate my gv and sprint numbers, but gives me the option to skip it. the ns4g didnt, and after i set it up i even went in and disassociated the numbers via the web interface to make sure i didnt miss it but when i went to set up the app again it forced the integration.
i searched but didnt find anything, is this normal? im planning to get the galaxy nexus but keeping my gv and regular numbers separate is a must so this would be a deal breaker. thanks!
nobody user google voice with their ns4g?

I am currently running eclipse 1.3 and cannot get visual voicemail to work. When I click on the app it says signing in then cannot connect to server. Any suggestions?

id make sure to check vvmservice in titanium backup to see if its running and make sure its not on wifi but make sure to backup original apps in rom to try to help prevent this
+1 with nj12nets. also, I switched over to google voice, which gives free visual voicemail. much better than paying for VZW's version.
That only works for calls received on your google voice account, correct? It doesn't seem to work with your verizon number...

Works fine with your Verizon number. You have to follow the instructions on the Google Voice website to configure it so that your voicemail is routed to Google instead of Verizon.
Hello All,
I am having some trouble after I have no rooted and S-Off my M8. Everything else is perfect and I love my phone more than ever, but now when I go to the messages and scroll right, my VVM is gone and I also lost the app for it as well. Strange enough, it still shows in my Titanium backup list but the "service" is missing. I did uninstall some bloatware and languages but definitely not the service. Anyone know how to get it back or where I could find the APK? I would appreciate the help!

Ok, which messaging app are you using, stock or the verizon messaging app? Also, did you uninstall any Verizon apps, and if so, which ones?

I am using the stock messaging app. I Uninstaller the vzw messaging app, NFL network, Polaris, Verizon tones, Verizon mobile security, Navigator, cloud, accessories, isis, support and protection, infozone. Also installed all keyboard language packs except for Spanish and English.

Probably has something to do with the Verizon apps you uninstalled. Happened to me too but with the regular voice mail app. When I try to open a it, it force closes. Even when I try to access it via messages on the right.
Only way to go to voice mail now is by dialing my number

I think you may be right. I'm a little stumped now, other than OP flashing a stock ROM again. To the OP, you might want to try a stock/debloated ROM, which you can find here. I would recommend SKYFALL or Bonestock, both great ROM's, and Verizon Visual Voicemail should work just fine. Hope that helps you!
So no one had the apk or service zip to correct this?

Usually is tied to messaging. I would be surprised if that was it. If you haven't heard it before...switch to Google voice for voicemail!

Yeah, I tried Google voice but it was a nightmare trying to set it up on a VZW device. I swear, if it wasnt for their reception I would leave them so fast.

OK... so the first time setup I usually do from a PC while logged into google voice. There's a first time setup page there that tells you to complete a step you would likely miss otherwise. From memory... you have to enter *71 [Your GV #] and hit send on your phone. This sets up the voice mail forwarding for no answer/busy. You then open and install the google voice app and open it. ?It will ask you to login and then you hit next. I chose the option to NOT use google voice to make any calls. Click next on the setup voicemail page (you will get the unfortunately error. Hit configure. Select google voice. Hit OK on the carrier configuration prompt.
If you land at the voicemail settings screen (which is under phone settings->call) you want to see the voice mail service set to Google voice and when you click on the Voicemail Settings for google voice there you should see your google voice number there. After that, go back to the google voice app and it will sync your new mail box. Make a test voicemail call from a different phone and see what happens.
Hardest thing is getting the forwarding number setup on each phone which only needs to happen one time.... regardless of swapping phones. After that you will only ever need to run through the app setup
Try installing this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721582
Turns out it was extreme power saving mode that broke it.
