Hi guys! I searched how to boot in safe mode on our galaxy s advance and i dont found any topic like this.If exist one and i dont saw it,please delete this thread.
Im on cm and yesterday i tried option "Simulate secondary displays",because i was curious to see what it does.I touched this option, then i choosed a resolution ( 720x480 mdpi) from there. Then my phone rebooting and while charging bootanimation, bootanimation stopped ( was freeze ) and every reboot bootanimation still freeze. Now,i still dont know for what is this option, but i advise you to dont choose it,let it "none" to avoid bootanimation freeze.I had like 300-400 mb data for internet browser ( lol ) and others apps and i dont had a backup. But,i did a backup after i got bootanimation freeze and then clear data and cache and then restore just data, but got again bootanimation freeze,so will wont work.
If you choosed this option like me and you are searching how to solve this problem without lose anything, you must go in SAFE MODE.
What is Safe Mode ?
Safe mode is a great tool that you can use to troubleshoot these issues. Safe mode boots your phone running only the apps that came with the phone – that means no third-party apps. Therefore, if your phone runs without an issue when you’re in safe mode, it’s a pretty good bet that the problem isn’t system related, and instead a third party app you downloaded.
After i tried some combinations and searched on google how to boot in safe mode in others phones,i got one working for our galaxy s advance (i think work too for GT-I9070P ).
How to boot in safe mode:
1.Power off your phone.
2.Reboot your phone.
3.When you see bootanimation keep pressed menu button ( left bottom button ) until your phone boot. When your phone booted, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark at the bottom left of the screen, to let you know that you are in fact in safe mode.
How to solve same problem which i had:
1.Power off your phone.
2.Reboot your phone.
3.When you see bootanimation keep pressed menu button ( left bottom button ) until your phone boot. When your phone booted, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark at the bottom left of the screen, to let you know that you are in fact in safe mode.
4.Go to Settings > Developer options > Simulate seconday displays and choose "None".Then close settings.
5.Reboot your phone and wait until your phone boot.
Alternate method: If still dont work ( i think is impossible to not work ) follow these steps:
1.Make a full backup (you can make full backup if you stuck at bootanimation).
2.Flash cm again.
3.Reboot phone.
4.Power off phone.
5.Go to recovery and restore just data from backup (advanced restore).
6.Reboot (at this stage i was stuck at bootanimation again,i think you too).
7.Now do steps from How to.
Now,maybe you will have some lags (like me,is not caused by safe mode),just install some scripts, like Pure Performance script (work for our phone, tested by me) or any others scripts/tweaks.
I done alternate method because i was too scared after i got bootanimation freeze instead go to safe mode before do backup.Just follow first method (instead alternate method),must work.
Maybe safe mode will work too when you get bootloop after flashing something over a rom,so you will can boot in safe mode and delete what you flashed,im not sure if will work (i dont tried),but is better to make a backup when you consider that you have something important to avoid all problems.
In my case,i dont had a backup before to change "Simulate secondary displays" option, and safe mode was solution.
Before finish this thread,im sorry for my bad english Good luck !
Very good tip, thanks
Very helpful post, especially for those experimenter's like me lol
This is only for CyanogenMod right.... Or can it be done on other ROMs ?

Should work on all stock and custom roms for galaxy s advance. I'm on cm at this moment. Just try because will not brick your device.

Ok the main reason why I wanted to create this thread was due to following reasons that people complain about after they flash roms...
1. Many a time the rom gets stuck on HTC screen (bootloop) while the same works right for others
2. You get the same kernel and radio yet you find your cell to have more battery drain than others
3. Finally some strange fcs and restarts which works perfect for others...
So this is basically one of the most perfect way to flash a custom rom and is a way to help people who face such issues...
Please follow these steps in the same order (I'm shouting) :
1. Boot into recovery
2. Format System (not wipe option but format option !!!)
3. Format Data
4. Format Cache then Format Boot
5. Wipe Data/Factory reset (1st option in wipe/format menu)
6. Wipe Dalvik Cache
Next if you have some wiping utility like Full Wipe 1.5 Ext4 for Saga.zip...run that by selecting install zip from sd card and installing the zip...
7. Now install zip from sd card and flash the rom
8. If any kernel flash it as well
9. Now reboot (Note don't flash any tweaks like transparent notification except gapps if required)
10. Now setup your phone
11. Reboot into recovery
12. Now go into advanced fix permissions and then any tweaks you want (Note whether mentioned or not always wipe Dalvik Cache before installing tweak zip)
13. Voila everything would work perfect 100%....
Tips :
1. If by chance you stuck on HTC screen while flashing a particular rom then go into recovery again and flash a rom that was present on your cell previously.
2. Reboot into the rom (No need to setup)
3. Now reboot again into recovery...follow the above steps and flash the new rom again...It would work 100%.
* As per the latest posts by google engineers wiping affects the battery in no way...So these steps [ ] can be safely skipped...
[ 4. Finally a tip after you install a new rom recalibrate the battery....always...
Simple way :
i) Use the phone till battery < 10%
ii) Now charge it till it gives green light and shows 100% battery (some roms shows green at 90% so check if battery is 100%)
iii) Now switch off the phone and charge again till it becomes green again (generally it should in 2-3 min)
iv) Finally boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
v) Done ]
But in case of battery drain you can just use good battery analyzers and check which particular app is causing it...
Also check the gps and sync settings for all apps that need internet which often proves the culprit as they are often set to auto sync by default...
Hope this guide helps and everyone can flash roms easily without any issues (except the ones present in rom ) and you will get the best battery, speed and performance with this method...
Please feel free to ask in case of any doubts !!!
Thanks for this, I am sure it will help many people who wants to flash a custom ROM for the first time.
I know I would have appreciated it the first time I did it
Well done
Can I suggest that you ask that your GUIDE be added to this [GUIDE] A Complete Tutorial for the Beginners and Others sticky thread so that it doesn't get lost and becomes a benefit for all, Although I'd suggest that it's simply referenced from that post rather than being copied into it so that you can still be the owner (OP) of the thread and have the ability to amend and edit it where you see fit.

Nice guide. I have one question though - if you're stuck on the HTC screen after a bad flash, (some may call it boot-loop) how can you go into recovery mode? Till recently, i just pulled the battery, put my phone in boatloader mode and went into recovery. Now, with the risk of pulling battery, i wanna know an alternate way to enter recovery, bootloader mode, or simply turning the phone off while on the HTC screen.

Here's an alternate and easy way to calibrate the battery -
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result
Use this app. No need to go into recovery
-Charge the phone to 100%
-Then, without unplugging charger, click the "Battery Calibration" button.
-It'll give you a CALIBRATION SUCCESSFUL message. Then, unplug your charger.

See the last line of my signature, it's now here for a reason, hopefully it will save us all one day!
@ben_pyett The key combo just reboots the phone. In a bootloop, it's of no use. I need to turn the phone off, or enter boatloader mode or enter recovery mode.

Well u have the adb way...
or just reboot ur phone...
with vol up + down + power button and as soon as screen becomes black and before it re-glows pull out the battery...
Basically it means d short time for which the cell is power off in reboot pull out battery...
It wnt have drastic effect as long as u do it exactly as i said...
Hope dis u ll find easier
Logic : Wen cell switched off watever u do has no effect ...dats logical

Thats correct however when you reboot you can pull battery then. Needs timing though, before the boot screen comes up.
Thanks. Nice idea. Can anyone tell me the ADB command to reboot into recovery?

For me the Key combo is intended for any time that the phone hangs while it's booted or still running.....(ie the infamous market download/install issue?)
The adb commands are there for the boot loops.
Code:
adb reboot
adb reboot reovery
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot

Greetings;
Have you solved your problem?
If not, tell me what Android version are you running on your device?
i.e: Gingerbread; Ice Cream Sandwich; Jelly Bean or KitKat.
Assuming you are running stock firmware i believe that either your brother flashed a wrong CF-Root for your device or used an application that could not root your device properly.
Either ways don't worry since your device can enter both Download and Recovery modes, it means that you can debug it.
[Rooting]
The best way to root this device is by flashing CF-Root file.
By flashing this file (CF-Root) you will be installing:
- ClockWork Mod Recovery
- Script that will root (automatically) your device.
- ext4 application. (do some research to know what ext4 is and how it os often used)
Small note: Since you will be rooted you will be able to overclock or underclock your device as well increase your device performance and battery duration.
Just PM me or do some research if you need some info regarding these configuration and settings.
[Fixing your issue]
Download Universal CF-Root here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056
Read the instructions before proceeding.
Now boot your device under Download Mode.
To do so:
Unplug USB Cable, Power Off your device and press the following key combination:
Vol.Down + Menu/Home Button + Power Button.
Release when the device enters download mode.
Now open Odin.
Under [PDA] load the CF Root File you've downloaded.
(Do NOT change any options inside odin if you dont know what they are for. Or you may get your device useless).
Put down your device so movement is done into the USB Cable (just to prevent bad flashing when you have low quality USB Cable).
Press Start and let the operation to complete.
Odin will display a message saying: "Pass" highlighted with Green.
Check if your device restarts (it may not restart yet)
If your device boots properly backup your data and follow the next step. If it doesnt boot properly follow to the next step.
Voot your device into recovery mode.
To do so: Power off your device and make sure it is not charging or connected to USB cable.
Then press and hold the following key combination:
Vol. Up + Menu/Home Button + Power Button.
Release after the Boot Logo is shown and you will enter recovery mode.
Now you will perform a Factory Reset.
Inside CWM select by the following order:
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Clean Cache
- Factory Reset
Note that Dalvik Cache is not shown at the main menu.
I dont remember the location exactly but if im not mistaken you can find it under "Advanced".
After you perform these 3 options the device shall reboot properly.
(it may take a little bit longer this time. Just be patient).
Since i dont know what was done to your device, there is still a chance that your device wont boot.
Either ways please let me / us (at XDA) know if it worked for you.
It is important (at least for me as a quality standard) that you are able to repair your device.
Best Regards
Please press thank button if this helped you. Since this will keep me motivated to continue helping.

- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Clean Cache
- Factory Reset
and then Reboot. As you said phone is stucked on boot image for more than 15 mins then an loop on "SAMSUNG" logo after more 15 mins phone is showing "kernel panic upload mode"

Hello amoghs;
Again sorry for answering after so long; I'm not so often at XDA Lately.
Yes.
1st: Try Remove the Battery, then Put it Back and Try Again.
If this doens't Work:
1) Turn your Device Off and Press:
Vol. UP + Home Button + Power (To Enter CWM / Your Recovery Mode)
2) Select: "Factory Reset"
Let me know how it worked for you.
Note:
- After Flashing a ROM it is Normal that your Device Takes a little Longer to Boot on the "1st" time.
- Phone Stuck on Boot Logo and Looping: Boot Issues (Either Requires to Remove and Place Back the Battery; or Re-Flash the ROM or Stock Rom in a Difficult Stage).
Notes:
- After a Flash Perform a Factory Reset (To Clean Up Old Stuff).
- If you Experience: "Kernel Panic":
a) Remove Battery and Place it Back - (Works on Most Cases)
b) Flash your ROM again and DO NOT Instal Custom Kernel (May be Wrong Kernel or Bad/Incompatible Kernel Programming)
c) Phone Restarts by Himself: Reflash ROM, Try MinFreeManager or Similar APK (Application). Try "Optimal" Settings. (I dont recall the Presets names - But you can Safely test them - Even if device gets stuck. You can always revert to previous state).
d) Any Hard-to-Solve Issues: Just do a "Clean Flash" of STOCK Gingerbread (Check Sammobile Website - Invalid Download Links Just send email to Support Requesting the File)
or Flash "DDLF2 2.3.6 (Also Gingerbread). But always try Stock 1st to remove most issues, and only then Flash your Desired ROM.
Also if you haven't fixed the Boot Issue already: Do note that you can recover your device Boot.
NOT Dead Yet!
Please do let me know if you solved your Boot problem.
Best Regards;
Richard
Hello all,
Sorry for my bad english.
I try to install new rom (fixed rom) on thl t11.
After i go in recovery mode i go in button "wipe all data" and after " yes - wipe data for all users"
Now when i turn on my mobile (power button) i get only black screen, nothing alse.
Please help me,is possible to fix this ?
Thanks a lot
Edit:
My phone is not rooted.also now i can't acces to my recovery .
did you fix that and if did how ?
By wiping your data you deleted the android system and data on your internal storage. But all your user data should still be there. However, since no operating system is installed, nothing can boot. That's why the screen stays black.
You will have to flash a ROM now. It must be suitable to your phone. You can either install the stock ROM oder a Custom ROM (which I would do since usually you have more options there). Download the zip-file to your sd-card and then flash it via the recovery, which you normally can enter by pressing certain buttons.
Which phone do you have? There a different ROMS out for most of the phones available. CyanogenMod for example is available for almost every phone. I would recommend getting that or the original firmware that was coming with your phone when you bought it.

You can take a look at this, though this is not for your phone you can try along the lines of the tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341320
If you cant even go to qpst download then i think you should hurry to your nearest service station
HIT THNX IF I HELPED
So, slightly misleading, but can be very useful if you're using AT&T and Goldeneye 51 (Lollipop) and need to reinstall it and can't get Flashfire on your device since it's kind of a pain to come by. It's true that SafeStrap won't technically work with the 0C3 Kernel, but there is a work around, one I discovered while installing Goldeneye and failing a few times. This method might break your rom, and I only use it if I need to reinstall Goldeneye since I updated to it from an NJ4 build. This is for those that don't have the SafeStrap splash screen before the boot animation.
Preparation 1) Super User on Goldeneye v51
So I don't know about you, but SU on lollipop has been really spotty for me, and never really works unless I do the following:
- Swipe down from the top edge of your phone to pull down the notifications tray
- press the second to the right icon at the top (it looks like a gear) to get into settings
- in settings press the "MORE" tab
- press "Security" (the padlock/first green icon)
- press "SuperSU" to get into the super user settings
- in SuperSU, press "SETTINGS"
- under Access, press "Default access" to open a pop up menu
- the default setting is "prompt" (which I haven't had any luck with), you want to change it to "Grant"
- while still in settings, scroll down to "Security"
- You want to check "Enable su during boot" (it's disabled by default)
- Then restart your phone (hotboot or full restart)
*This is very dangerous and these settings should be reverted after you're done doing what you need to do, and if you're not very familiar with hacking your phone and you download a lot of questionable apps from third party (non-Play Store) sites, then you can really compromise your phone's security as well as your own.
Preparation 2) downloading and installing SafeStrap (again)
Go to this link (I do it on my phone so it's just on there and I don't have to bother transferring it to it):
Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk (thanks Hashcode)
To install go into Settings and then security and then enable unknown sources.
-Once installed, open the app
-In the app choose install SafeStrap, it should install successfully, but pressing the boot into recovery option won't work, nor will safestrap at this time
Making SafeStrap Usable (again)
Okay not quite sure , if this process breaks the rom, but just having the SafeStrap splash screen on boot doesn't affect the rom, and acts as a nice safety net if you do run into a soft brick issue and can't get back into Goldeneye, or need to reinstall a system app that you may have accidentally deleted. So this will create something annoying though and may seem like a boot loop, but isn't. When coming from a full reset, it will reload the "SafeStrap" screen a few times in a row, acting like a boot loop (usually 4 or 5 cycles, until it fixes itself). It usually does this a few times and then spits you back out to the normal Samsung boot animation. If it doesn't, press the "continue" and that usually makes it flash 2 more times before spitting you out to the normal boot animation and back into the rom.
This method just requires you to reflash the NJ4 kernel in ODIN, now I don't know if this breaks the rom, but I've only used this method to repair Goldeneye.
-In ODIN, press "AP"
-Load up NJ4 Kernel (thanks muniz_ri)
-Put your phone in "Download mode", fun little trick if you're in the rom, if you press restart, and reboot, while keeping the Vol Down pressed until it reboots, it will kick you into download mode.
-connect your phone to your pc
-start the process and when it restarts and gets to the "SafeStrap" screen, you can now get into it, it takes a while longer than normal to load, but will load.
I don't know if this breaks the rom, I assume it would. Then once back into SafeStrap you can reflash Goldeneye and fix anything you need to.
While I'm not running goldeneye, I did upgrade from stock kitkat to lollipop using munz_ri's original directions that involved installing safe strap then flashing the new rom from it, rendering safe strap not working in lollipop. The problem is that I have the same issue you describe where every time I reboot I get the safe strap screen at least three times prior to it booting to the Samsung logo. Do you know of any safe way to remove the screen for safe strap so it just boots normally? Until safe strap is updated (if at all), it doesn't make a lot of sense to have it installed in lollipop if I have to flash down to a kitkat kernel to even use it..
Any help would be appreciated. I looked through the thread but couldn't find anything.

Yeah, download the apk again and click uninstall and you should be good to go, and then you can reinstall it at a later date if you so choose. Though you need SuperUser to make it work. Sorry it took so long to respond to you, I'm not really on here on a daily basis.
since 1st release and I never truly had Root even though I followed all the steps to Keep Root from KK. This part here got me root back!!!
I have been on LolliRom So I don't know about you, but SU on lollipop has been really spotty for me, and never really works unless I do the following:
I thought I did all of this in SuperSU but I guess not. Now its all fixed. Thanks.

does this rom work with safestrap
Safestrap and NC1 on Galaxy S4 Lollipop OC4
Hey when I open NC1 flasher it tells me (Either safestrap or busybox could not be found on this device. Both are needed to flash NC2) I have busybox installed, ran the app and clicked install. It was successful. I then ran NC1 like I was supposed to but it gave me that message. I havent opened ss because i was told not to. I have tried this on SS 3.72 and 3.75. Am I doing something wrong?
yeah, it breaks the ROM, but...

I just installed ALBE N5 Astra Port v 2.5P and needed to clear dalvik cache... which I could not do, because Safestrap doesn't work with 0C3 kernel, as you clearly say... so I tried your workaround, in spite of I did have the SS splash screen with the bug you mention, but having installed SS again, it wouldn't get me into recovery at reboot, no matter what I did. Rebooted in dwld mode, flashed NJ4 kernel and voilá! there I was, directly into SS, haven't even seen the splash screen this time. Wiped dalvick cache and rebooted to system... oh, no! Didn't get into my phone. Nope. Passing the SS splash screen and Sammy bootimage, black screen and didn't go further... pushed the power button again and got into SS directly when I was about to flash 0C3 kernel via Odin. This time, I flashed the 0C3 Kernel and modules from within SS, as if I just were flashing the aforementioned ROM, and just in case, wiped cache and dalvik... again! and rebooted to system. It is getting into the phone now, and android is updating, as if I just flashed the ROM. I Have all my data backed up in my pc, so let's see what do I have to reinstall, if so.
I needed to wipe dalvik because playstore stopped working properly (can't dwld apps anymore, in spite of it was working fine earlier) and suddenly, SMS app stop working too, and was working great this morning.
Just wanted to share my experience with your method, just in case someone runs into something like I did.
Thank you for your great job, dcoke! Kudos!
Cheers!
PS: Everything is fine, except that could not fix the errors that lead me to try this procedure. I will look into the the ROM's posts to figure out what to do next, at least I know now how to get into SS... again! TY!

This does not break the ROM if you flash the OK2 or whatever lollipop kernel you want back with ODIN. I can confirm this.
Good day.
Thanks fore reading my post.
I had root on my phone like for 3 or 4 months. everything was great and all. I did not dwell in any ROM installing or playing with the firmware.
But I am not sure what I did that this happened.
When I restarted my phone, I experienced everything until the Logo faded to the rotating circle(loading). And it stays there. Always.
I did check on many sites and it seems to be a bootloop. I tried going into recovery, used every button combination possible(I have only 3 and also tried and for my phone and for others to work) and I can't.
It just continues normally and to the position I explained before.
I have a Vodafone Smart 4 Max and even though I want the fix for my phone, I know there are other users that also experience/experienced this problem on different phones.
Might there be a way to fix this?
Thank you for your time
EDIT:: I managed to enter in recovery mode and tried a hard reset of the android. The situation is still the same, the bootloop remaining
Go to bootloader and flash factory firmware with fastboot
I wish I could. I have no idea how to access the bootloader(as I see no function like that).
I only have 4 options:
1).Reboot system now
2). Wipe Data
3)Wipe Cache
4). Recovery from back-up on SD (which I am stupid and don't have)

How did you get to recovery? Wasn't it through bootloader? I found the information you get into bootloader like this: (power off) press and hold "end call"+"power on"+"volume up". If it doesn't work try the same but with "volume down". I guess you tried it, but you never know (plus I've got a feeling you can flash new rom with option 4 you've got there)

Hm, I know what you are saying. For me to enter in recovery mode though, I needed to do the following.
1). Fully shutdown the phone for like 30 seconds
2). Volume UP + power button until the first logo with android appears
3). Let the buttons go and I enter
The problem is that adb and fastboot don't see my device at all. I have been tweaking with the drivers for so long, thinking that may be the cause, but I have no results.
And I can use the backup thing to flash a new rom? It requests an update file though, not an image(a zip file)
I think this is about your phone, maybe it will point you in the right direction:
