Nexus 5 supports OTG? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried otg? Does it work WITHOUT external power (like neexus 4)?
I had a galaxy nexus and it supported otg out of the box. Just plug a usb and use a browser which could support usb
But from what i read nexus 4 DID NOT officially support it as it needed external power source (not talking about custom kernals using which it was possible)
So does otg work on nexus 5? You just plug in a usb drive and it works??
thanks

this has been asked multiple times... yes it supports it but you need an app like stickmount to mount it... next time search or post in the ask any question thread and don't open a new thread

[APP] USB Mass Storage for Ice Cream Sandwich & Jelly Bean [v.1.2.0-pre - 02.02.2012]
Hey all!
Note: This App was developed in the early days of Ice Cream Sandwich Ports. At this time none of the Ports had native USB Mass Storage support and this App was meant as a temporary workaround to use UMS nevertheless. So this App won't be interesting for you, unless the ICS or JB Port you use still doesn't natively support UMS. If that is the case, here comes help:
Update for Jelly Bean: I successfully tested the App (v1.1.4!) with the first test release of a Jelly Bean Rom for Nexus One.
Update for MTP: I probably found a way to permanent support UMS for devices that originally use MTP, but I don't have a device to test this. So, if preferably a Galaxy Nexus owner would be so kind to test a few things for me, please pm me. Thanks![/url].
USB Mass Storage for ICS (that doesn't have native UMS support (yet))
USB Mass Storage for ICS and JB (that doesn't have native UMS support (yet))
Description
The app starts automatically after booting up the device and automatically detects when the device is being connected via USB to a computer. Then a notification pops up in the notification bar and by tapping on the notification you will open a GUI to enable/disable USB Mass Storage; just/almost like the original UMS feature.

APK Download
For the devices listed above, the App works like a charm.
Latest stable version (1.1.4): Download APK (you'll probably want this one!)
Latest version (1.2.0-pre): Download APK
Older versions: see post attachemets.
A few Notes:
Sync- / Multiple Partition-Issue
If you have multiple partitions on your SD card, you might have a problem with file list syncing. When UMS is enabled and you alter files on your SD via Computer, you won't see the changes on your device (and vice-versa). The app will work nevertheless. All copied/deleted files are there/gone! It is just a sync problem. Resync and you'll see it.
Pre release version (Sync- / Multiple Partition-Fix)
Beside the stable version 1.1.4, there exists a pre-release version of 1.2.0 that fix the sync issue. Feel free use this version, but be aware of the fact that not all of the settings from the menu are working yet! At the moment, this is basically v1.1.4 with improved layout and sync fix. So please don't report bugs for the settings that doesn't work.
MTP
Another thing to note is that devices using MTP (such as the Galaxy Nexus) most probably won't be able to use UMS via the App at all. There have been reported a few suggestions to fix that, but atm those fixes doesn't work. I'm working on that, but i'm doing this in my sparetime and don't have a device that uses MTP myself, so it's hard to work on that. Anyway you can try.

Screw the original android UMS. One thing I have always hated about UMS was that all of my sd partitions (Have 3) promps on my computer when I activate it. Only using 179:1 (Fat partition) is quite nice.
However a nice feture (If you have the time) would be a partition list to choose which to mount?

Thanks. Yep, partition list is already on my to-do list. But first i want to get Tethering working before going on with the options. Anyway, source is online at github, so if you like; i'm still taking pull requests.

Hehe, mine as well. Just reading the Android documentaion carefully brought me with no Java experience to that result. And a Java developer would probably laugh about the app's code. But in the end it works, so what.

It is working with that rom. the problem is not the apk, but a permission problem with either the superuser.apk or the su binary itself. i fixed it by removing the superuser.apk via shell rm and flashing the signed superuser zip from chains website (http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip) via recovery. after that root permissions were fixed and the ums app, as well as any other root app (like titanium) worked again.
Hey, nice app, thanks for that
Just a question, can you implement a checkbox (or whatever :-D) to disable the notification while the App is still running?
I know, it isn't the end of the world but I don't like my notification bar "spammed" :-D

--------------------
ENG: Sorry, but it will take some time. I wrote the App without any Java experience and every change requires reading the Android references carefully and then trial and error. At the moment my main focus is more on getting tethering working before i'm gonna implement some extra options.
It's funny that i am the one who asks as i wrote this App. But actually i just did a bit of Java coding and i am far away from being a linux fs/udev/mmc/vold expert. So my question to the experts out there: Could somebody please explain me in detail what is the difference between
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
and
echo /dev/block/vold/179:1 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
Because all i see is that both commands to the lunfile mount the sdcard as mass storage..!?
Thanks in advanced!

There are no difference as both device maps referrers to the same minor and major numbers (Same device). Take a look at this
If you CD to /dev/block and type "ls -la" and then CD to "/dev/block/vold" and type "ls -la" you will in both cases see the numbers "179, 1" right before the date index.

[DEV][ROM][ALPHA]CM 10.1 Asus MeMO Pad HD7 (MTK)

Introducing CyanogenMod for the Asus MeMO Pad HD7

I have been working on CM 10.1 for ME173X for a couple months now, it took me a while as I had never heard of MTK before I got this device. I have come to a good start point for anybody that wants to build for MTK devices.
Anybody should be able to use this source to start building for there own device, so please do not ask if this can be ported, you can build it yourself.
RULES OF THIS THREAD:
1. Do NOT ask for an ETA!
2. Do NOT ask if this can be ported to another device!!!
3. Do NOT PM me with questions about this, if you are trying to develop for another device then comments are welcome.
4. Please use the thanks button instead of posting a thanks reply
Let's keep this as clean as we can to help devs get going and contributing to the development.
This is an alpha build, so expect nothing to work.
Links will be up soon, please be patient.
If you would like to help in the development, you can initialize the repo with this command to get started. For now these are simple changes that should get you to a point that it will boot. The only thing required is for you to set up your device files. This also includes my latest CWM based recovery so it should work for small recovery partitions.
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/BSydz-MTK/android.git -b cm-10.1

General instructions for building
Build Instructions:
1. Build Environment:
You will have to have your Android build environment set up, here is a guide, you do not have to "download the source" at the end.
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
2. Create an Android directory on your computer:
This can be named anything you like. I use /CM-10.1-MTK.
3. Open directory in terminal
4. Initialize the repository:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/BSydz-MTK/android.git -b cm-10.1
repo sync
After everything is downloaded/synced:
This downloads prebuilt files for CM
Code:
./vendor/cm/get-prebuilts
5. Connect your device to the computer and make sure adb is working
6. Pull files from device: Note: Some files may not have permission so you may have to pull them from the device manually using root explorer or similar.
Code:
cd device/asus/ME173X
./extract-files.sh
cd ../../../
7. Build:
Code:
. build/envsetup.sh && brunch cm_ME173X-eng -j4
Optional Build:
Copy BSydz_ME173X_build.sh to the root of the Android directory, i.e. the dir you created and are using for your build.
This will give you information through out the build, like what step it is at and how long the build took.
Code:
./BSydz_ME173X_build.sh
Most Common Errors:
make: *** No rule to make target
discription:
This simply means that the file that it is being told to build is not where you said it would be.
Solution:
Make sure the file is where it is supposed to be.
First off, this is stellar. I'm pretty sure you just managed to achieve the impossible. You'll go down in history as the man who got Cyanogenmod on a MTK device! Congrats!

Thanks, but I am not the only one. Lots of credit goes to xplodwild, chrmhoffmann, and bgcngm. I am just setting it up so that it is accessible to anybody that wants to help. They have made more progress than me as far as getting things working, I just know from experience that if you put the code in front of peoples face, they will be more likely to contribute something to the project. Since we don't have that base to start from, I figured I would put it together and let everybody at it.
Congrats !!!! Would try a build this night !!
Thanks for your work b !!!!

...i had only 15 minutes to playin around with, because i musst work
For the very first cm Alpha on MTK it works very good....
THX again,
sorry did read this now...
Remember this is just a basic boot, nothing works. There is no sound, wifi, bluetooth, and there is still an issue with the mounts and permissions. So the sdcards don't work. I have updated my github and you should be able to build a bootable ROM from it. I will post a link for the flashable ROM after I get a few things taken care of.
Thank you. you get all the goodies. Have no guess. about the beta release.?

I am working on it. I am going to build cm11 and omni to see if it will work for our device. I am currently modifying CWM 6.0.4.7 to fit on our recovery partition to be able to install them. Once I figure out what needs to be done I can back port it and go from there.
Also our device is mt8125, so there may be slight differences.
Remember I am only one man, and building takes a while between changes. And this is my only tablet so I don't wanna just leave it in dev mode.
Plus I lost all of my backups cause my sdcard just died trying to remove it from my broken SD slot. That will be the last time I use a drywall screw to try to take out my sdcard ... lol.
Please be patient, this is uncharted territory, and this is my first MTK device.

I believe that in the Wiki CM thread, that they mentioned that stock kernel only works on CM10.2, not CM11, so try CM10.2/Omni4.3. There's also this: https://gerrit.omnirom.org/#/q/topic:mt6589,n,z on gerrit, perhaps you can try that wifi fix, by renaming it?

Add OTG support!!!

There are many android devices without otg cable support.
Today ill show you how to add otg support to your device
Code:
*You have to root your device.
*I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone
*Your warranty is now void
[*]Root your device as mentioned above
[*]Download the app "USB OTG Helper[ROOT]". (Link below)
[*]Follow the instructions and enjoy
Download
You can download the appHere
Now you can use OTG on your phone

[TEST-ROM]CM14.1[Android 7.1.0_r7]

Someone who wants to test my ROM? This ROM Is quite unlike other Note 3 ROM's. Is based on CyanogenMod.
Kernel in this ROM is the latest sources from Samsung with tweaks.
I am not responsible for bricked devices.
Don't work:
- Need to work more with SELinux.. Have some deniers
- You tell me
What is special about my ROM?
- Newer kernel source
- Lag free experience, because I have focused on GPU-source and PowerHall without overclocking. The key is efficiency

Edit: So far so good, but as mentioned below, battery drain tremendously. Though, it's still WIP so no complaints & thanks for your efforts.

you must flash the rom along with gapps at the same time. If you first flash the rom and boot and then flash gapps you will face Google Play service fc's.
so
1. Flash rom
2. Don't boot and flash Android 7.0 gapps (Any)
3. flash supersu.zip if needed
poof done no force close

You can't change the battery Icon within the status bar settings that's correct, however you can make the percentage appear within the stock battery icon. Go to settings / status bar / status bar icons". There, i have a setting for showing the percentage at the bottom of the screen, once I pass all the slider options for the icons I want to enable.

I think Android Pay is the cause of that trouble.
I'm so exited about CM14 on my note 3. One day i will try it. Have to wait now :/
Two questions.
1. Are there only two devs working on CM14 for note 3?
2. trader418 has one CM14 rom, but not that much time to work on it.
Can't you two collaborate on one rom, or at least a stable base that you can then work on separately if you which?
I'm asking this for as a user and not a developer this make sense.
Two cooks can be a good thing. :good:
Thanks for this rom m8.

[ROM] Elephone U pro descendent laptapper mod android pie

Hi to all elephone u pro users
I've good news, for me on android 9 face unlock seems to be working. Activate google smart lock trust agent, then you've got a new menu smart lock in security. Tap it and follow the instructions. Further more you'll find voice unlock.....
Further more it seems a quiet good running system, I've taken descendent onedotfour rom, open gapps, new health service app, nova launcher, some system files updates and some additional apps and mods......
Descendent has got a tuning menu, try it.
It should be working when you flash the TWRP boot.img via adb and then via twrp delete system cache dalvik and data then restore the system with the system backup (decompress my system file in your twrp sub folder!). you have to reinstall magisk over twrp.
The files you'll find here:..x..
The Gcam in this folder is working fine...
May you wanna try, but of course all on your own risk.....
If you've troubles lets discuss here
Thanks to skeleton1911 and to descendent developers :good:
Bluetooth in call was working but only short time, now it isn't working anymore. I've tried some things but I didn't find a solution.
May be someone else find out what to do......
Nice work.
If you want I can tell you how you can make it as system.img.

@Laptapper I'm going to test this today. Excited to see more development for our U Pro. Thanks.
Hi @Laptapper,
I wanna know if your rom is fully functional (bluetooth, nfc, hotspot, battery endurance, etc.) and useful as well as Eragon 10.3.
Thanks

At the moment bluetooth seems to be not working, it was working only a short time. May be someone else can help?
The battery and smoothness looks very great. Try and give feedback for bugs. We can optimize all together to get a fully working pie system. ROM based on oreo (like eragon) didn't have problems but it's oreo and many people want to have pie, so we have to develop together.
