Apex has a feature for gestures on the home screen(not using it now, for obvious reasons), for example: I would drag my finger up to open the app drawer. Anyone know of something than can provide similar features without having to replace the launcher?
Try this, it might be what your looking for.

This is something I recommend to everyone, but it requires root I think.

Probably not the first thread on the subject but nevertheless: Which home screen replacement are you using and what do you like about it?
I developed a home screen replacement called "Simple Home" and it is all about simplicity. Feel free to try it out (search for "Simple Home" on Android market). I'm interested to hear what features people really want to have in their launcher!?
I use launcher pro. my favorite feature is having the scrollable dockbar.

At least you were somewhat up front about spam, if misleading in the title.
I am genuinely interested due to fact that I've developed an app in a certain way, not out of any commercial reasons! If it was an unsolicited post then I would a) not answer you b) not ask questions or c) not promote a free app. My post is meant as a basis for a discussions. Yours on the other hand is not!
regarding the scrollable dockbar in launcher pro: hmm yes, it is very nice feature to have some kind of menu bar with pinned apps. Strange though that it disappears when you go to the app drawer. On the other hand there needs to be some kind of icon for the return button some how.
something to try could be developing a way to organize the app drawer using sections, folders, etc. if I knew anything about app creation that's what I would be working on haha.

You can enable/disable the return home button in preferences. I particularly like the extended froyo theme dock for pinned apps. Keeps my desktop clean. I don't care for multiple dock rows as I just use 4 icons, but I like the options. I recently paid for the paid program of launcher pro.
The best part is you can make it simple or complex in options. Theme support is also nice... and its speed is wonderful.
I think launched pro has it figured out. If you are building a launcher perhaps try to think out side the box instead of trying to compete with such an already complete launcher.

Funny thing you mentioned it, because this is exactly what I've done for my app and of course using frecency sorting (frequency + recency). This is exactly what I want to have for my app drawer plus filtering to narrow down the list (which is also in there).

I am, I think the ones that are out there really do the Android style launchers to perfection. My approach is simplicity and speed. I personally don't believe in arrangeable desktops. It works fine when you have a few apps but when you have a fair amount installed it becomes tedious to do rearrangements..
ADW. But I like eye candy. If your going for simple you could have a niche to yourself.
One feature I'd like, played with a few programs last night as was not happy with any, is a task SWITCHER.
Double tap home and bring up a nice screen, if it can use a wall then even better.
No killing just switching.
Yes, I agree! Ubuntu- or mac-style task switcher would be truly great. I don't think that exposé will work as good on a mobile phone as on a PC
My approach was to add an indicator on top of app icons in my app drawer for apps that are running (according to the ActivityManager) together with the ability to sort the list on running apps. I find that simple and very useful..
I tried ADW, Helix, LauncherPro, Simple Home, and PandaHome. I like Panda's side docks & app hiding, and ADW's hidden dockbar & screen swipes to launch apps (though it still FCs on my Droid 2.1R) . I'd prefer something simple. I don't need more than 3 screens and usually go to 2. I don't need a task switcher because long-pressing Home shows my last six apps. I don't need flash, I just want it to work. ADW works for me now because I have four quick action buttons (so it replaced Helix) and six more in the dockbar, though I can scroll for more. Just my .02
I have used Stock sense, ADW, and LuncherPro in the last 3 days and I like LuncherPro by far the best. I like having the 4 icons on the bottom to clear icon clutter on the screen and the menu system is nice.
So I would love to find an app that allows for a slide out "locker" for apps of my choice in it. I'm thinking something like the Ubuntu favorites bar on the new Ubuntu UI... This shouldn't be too tough to make as Action Launcher Pro does it with the app drawer...I'd just like to be able to put the apps I want in there instead of all of them.. Kind of like taking the Dock, turning it on it's side, and allowing for a gesture from the edge of the screen to open it and a swipe back to edge to close or to close when I choose an app in it. I would also love for it to be customizable with custom Icons and allow for shortcuts to widgets as well like using the audio manager profile list widget and last but not least be scrollable so that I can have as many apps as I want in there. .. .Of course this should be an app/widget that can have multiple instances (Think one on each screen edge) and not a launcher as I'd like to use it with Nova Launcher if possible.
Is this too much to ask for?
Fliplauncher does a lot of what you ask for.
Works with other launchers, too.
AW: Slide out "Locker" for Apps
Miui... many themes have that

Flip Launcher will work for now. It's similar.. I was thinking 1 long inch wide slide out vertical bar that scrolls but this will hold me over for now
I'll have to look at the MIUI ones but I just love my Minco ROM and have never gotten a MIUI Rom to work for me for some reason...
AW: Slide out "Locker" for Apps
miui is important to have the right kernel. before i started flashing, i customized my phone with such launchers and replacements and it was just a waste of ram, it worked, but it wasnt good at all. In miui i can customize my theme in an more awsome and more easy way.

Unfortunately there is no MIUI so far for the nexus 4
I use GMD Gesture Control, one of the default gestures is swipe in from the right edge to get a "locker". Sounds like what you're looking for. Try the free version to see if you like it.

That is more like it! Once they tweak it a little to allow hiding apps I don't want there and improve the gesture sensitivity to open it up it should be great thanks!

Can't argue with that. GYF *was* too slow
Note that I am the author of GYF but I actually use both GYF and LMT as my daily drivers because, well, LMT is great and really completes GYF (or the other way around, lol)
I completely love the stock launcher on the Nexus 5 but I cannot stand the paged horizontal scrolling in the app drawer. I know this can be changed in Nova Launcher but i'd rather not use another launcher.
First, has anyone been able to accomplish this? If not, I would love if someone could help me figure out if it's possible and what files I may need to update. I've changed various things with the SystemUI apk but never anything in the app drawer. I would also be fine with horizontal scrolling but continuous (ie. it doesn't stop moving every page and just glides).
I would appreciate any help.

you might be able to port over a samsung touch wiz launcher from android 4.3, they ususally have a vertical list scrolling setting... it might need some of the framework files though. not sure how samsung does things these days.
That's a place to look but I'd prefer to just edit the stock launcher. I was trying to find any app drawer mods to figure out where to look. No luck yet

I have also started using xposed installer. Is there a module for this? I'd settle for just getting rid of the paged scrolling at this point. Ie. You can just swipe once to get from the first to forth page of apps.

I am using Go launcher, it is great, it is so cool. But you know what is the most stupid thing about Go launcher? I think it is the hide-app function. Anyone can just click the "hide app" button and see what is being hidden. I always think that someone will open it someday. It is so awkward, how did you guys solve the problem?
That's really a problem.

I have been using Go launcher also, it's a nice launcher. But this problem really bothers me. Wish this problem can be fixed soon!:crying:
It's because the 'hide apps' option isn't privacy-related.
It's there to hide apps from your app list that serve no purpose being there. For instance, Live Wallpapers put an icon in the app list, which forces you to open the wallpaper picker anyway. If you're like me and have about 30 of them installed, they clutter up the list. Ditto for Zooper Widget packs and apps you can't uninstall but never use. (No every launcher user has root access).
I also use Go Launcher. It's one of the best launcher apps. But I never tried app hiding until now...
My phone is password protected and since I am the only one using it I don't really see a reason why I should hide them.
And if there is someone who really looks out to find hidden apps.. That's a person I would not give me phone

So I bought the Nexus 5 and it's a great phone and I really like the pure android experience. Is it somehow possible to rearrange and hide some apps in the app drawer? I know Nova Launcher can do this but I don't want to lose the clean look the Google Now Launcher gives me. So if there would be any app that maintains the Google Now Launcher experience but adds an option to move and hide apps within the app draw, please let me know. Hopefully it's possible without rooting my new phone because I'd rather not do that.
Hopefully this isn't being ignored, from what I've heard this is the place to be when it comes to Android stuff so I hope I won't get disappointed.
EDIT: Nevermind.
