This is for my brother's phone...
He tried 3 different computers, downloaded the latest samsung USB drivers on all 3, tried any and all USB ports on each computer. It is not recognized at all. The phone charges and that's about it. He's even tried a few different USB cables.
He's on CM 10.2 now and needs to go back to stock to upgrade to a new phone.
I had him try flashing a stock-rooted ROM from recovery, and it will not work. I don't know what error he gets off-hand, but he says that it gets denied.
Help please!

Not sure about stock but I can give you something to try under CM 10.2.. Go into Settings -> Storage -> (Click three dot menu in upper right) -> USB Computer Connection -> Make sure Media Device (MTP) is checked.
He was able to get it back to stock with mobile odin. Now USB works. Weird.
Thanks!

So in attempt to find my way to cyanogenmod 7 today i managed to brick my phone using odin3 one click. i was able to get my phone back into download mode after reading a few tips. so my new problem is my computer saying "usb device not recogniced. one of the usb devices on this computer has malfunctioned'. i've tried reinstalling the samsung drivers for my captivate and that doesnt seem to fix the problem. Any ideas? And if i can get odin to recognize my phone, should i master clear everything before trying to flash it back to stock?
Re-install the drivers and try again. Be sure to have the ODIN 1 Click open before connecting your phone in download mode.
also try different USB ports. wouldn't be the first time a port caused a connection problem.
Hi all,
My Droid charge decided to do something weird today; it no longer will USB mount! This problem is particularly bad because, while I can put the phone in download mode, my computer will not recognize the USB and ODIN (1.2 & 1.8) cannot wipe the phone.
Any suggestions? I really need my phone back, but I'm not sure what to do.
Tried reinstalling the USB Samsung Drivers, using the original data cable, and two different computers (Win7). SD card will mount in an external drive (aka without the phone), and the phone will charge via USB. I have the most recent form of CWM on it, and the EP4P debloated and rooted rom.
Thanks,
frak

That happened to me a while back. Mine had the added bonus of going into desk dock mode and staying there. It was a hardware issue with the USB port. It would charge, but nothing else. Mine did become intermittent though, and cycling the cable in and out seemed to help it some, but ultimately, I had to send it in for replacement

What cable are you using? I accidentally grabbed my charging-only cable the other day and didn't realized it only had the wires for positive and negative. No data pins.
Is it the cable that came with your Droid?

Had that yesterday. A different port worked fine for me. Maybe a couple of power cycles will do the trick.

Can you point me to the drivers you installed? Thanks in advance.
I am having same problem and going nuts. I have Galaxy S2. I CAN connect to windows and Kies when phone is booted up but can not connect while in download mode. On Andoid System Recovery <3e>, I tried to do factory reset and wipe cache but no vain. Still getting usb not recognized.
Hi everyone! I've updated my Samsung Galaxy i9003L to 2.3.6 via Kies a few days ago, and USB connection has stopped working for seemingly no reason. The phone just charges but never mounts. Kies doesn't detect it either.
On Win7, when I try to connect I get the device listed as "Unknown Device", error 43. Have tried uninstalling USB drivers and reinstalling official Samsung drivers at least 5 times. Didn't work. Also, Kies doesn't detect the phone. Have tried running Kies' connection troubleshoot tool. Didn't work either.
I've tried connecting the device with 3 different USB cables (including the original Samsung one), and on different USB ports as well. Didn't work either. Also tried putting the device on USB Debugging mode, to no avail. I've also cleaned the USB port in the phone just in case. Problem persists.
My Linux netbook used to detect the device with no problem at all before the update. Now it doesn't detect it either. I've also tried my GF's Mac, but no dice. This makes me think this may be a phone error.
I've also tried the *#7284# USB/MODEM solution and rebooted my phone to factory settings twice already. Nothing seems to work.
I'd appreciate some help on the matter, this is driving me slightly crazy!

Hi! First of all, thanks for the help. I doubt this is a firmware problem, since neither mi Linux netbook nor a Mac computer detected the phone in any way, and they also used ot be able to detect it with no problem.
So I wiped my phone, went to flash the unofficial kitkat CM rom, and found out I had the wrong recovery version. No biggie, I thought, I'll just reflash my backup ROM. Well, it wasn't where I left it, so now I'm stuck without a ROM to flash. That was okay, though, I could just push one via adb. Then my computer gave me the "USB device not recognized" thing, and so I've tried reinstalling drivers, cleaning the registry, rebooting many times, and all to no avail. I'm lost! Wise ones of XDA, what can I do?
Bump. I really could use some help, I use my phone for work and school and it's a paperweight in it's current state.
I'm guessing you have no access to an sdcard? Looks like you need to use Odin to go back to stock then reroot and unlock. Try uninstalling the drivers then boot your S3 into download mode (hold volume down, home, and power) follow the on-screen prompt, then plug your S3 into the computer to force install new drivers. Now, unplug and pull the battery and try flashing stock, and root/unlock. Try another port, keep the computer plugged into the wall, and also make sure you're using the Samsung USB cable.

No sd card. My computer shows the same "USB device not recognized" message while the phone is in either download mode or recovery, and while using my samsung usb cable and a new one I bought yesterday evening. I've deleted every driver for it, tried every port, and it's the same thing every time. EXCEPT, for some reason, when I plug it into my USB 3.0 ports, it shows up in device manager under "other devices- unknown device", but when it's plugged into my USB 2.0 port, it shows up under "USB controllers- unknown USB device (invalid device descriptor)".

If its not connecting to your main computer, try another computer. Honestly though, I think you need to purchase a cheap sdcard (format it to Fat32) and put a rom on there. Cuz you can still access download mode and also recovery correct? Maybe by then, there will be a few more replies or some idea that will get you in the right direction.

I just have my laptop. I've bought an sd card now, but I don't have a reader. When I fix this I'll put a backup on there I think I'm just going to reinstall windows and get a fresh start. Then maybe I'll be able to ADB sideload a rom.
I had similar problem
After I screwed up my device, this was the way I got the right recovery installed in order to flash 4.4
I cant post links in posts yet, I'll pm you the link.
Hello,
I've had a GT-N8013 for a few years and just recently decided to try something besides stock on it. Darn thing is, once I reset the tablet to factory settings (4.1.2) and got prepared to flash CWRecovery my PC stopped recognizing the tablet via USB. So obviously, I now can't use ODIN which kinda sucks.
The tablet lights up when I plug it in (Red X on battery icon, but that's understandable - although, it does that on the wall charger too), but the PC does not respond at all. No change in Device Manager.
Things I've tried or noted:
I have tried it on multiple machines and multiple ports
I bought and tried a new UBS cable
I bought and replaced the charging port
I have tried Kies, different drivers, etc.
Rebooting tablet/PC
With/without USB Debugging enabled
Any help would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Don't use Kies.
Download Samsung USB driver & install it, then may be restart your PC.
If you use MS Windows download ODIN.
If you use Mac or Linux download Heimdall instead of ODIN.
Download the ROM.
Set your GT-N8013 to Download Mode (ODIN mode).
Connect your your GT-N8013 to your PC.
READ the instruction for FLASHING A CUSTOM ROM!
