NFC not working? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. 2nd day with my N5. NFC doesn't work - its enabled in settings but doesn't pick up any tags that my HTC one x did.
Anyone else else seeing this? Maybe a hardware fault?

Can anyone else with an n5 tell me if NFC works on their device?

Update - it can beam a url to my 920, but nothing else...

It worked for Google wallet the other day, and an Android Beam. Keep in mind there are different types of NFC tags, and they aren't all interchangeable.

The HTC One X compatible with all kind of NFC tags, but the newest devices won't. So you can't use Classic 1k tags with these devices. Try with NTAG 203 type or ultralight tags.
There's the compatible list: (N7 2013 use same NFC chip like N5)

I can confirm that using NFC for beaming ant info works. I've been beaming photos and other app info from my HTC to my one.

Aw crap. My HTC One X would read hotel keys, passports, all sorts. Not that that's all that useful, but it was interesting...

sometimes it works, other times it dosen't.
I cant tell what why!

Floating touch

Can i add the floating touch on my nexus s?
Sent from my nexus s using xda app
Floating touch? Like on the Xperia Sola? If that is what you mean, than no. That technology relies on hardware. Hardware that the Nexus s does not have.
I think it's software. I'm sorry.

Oh, well what do you mean exactly by "floating touch"? Do you have a video or description or something?

Definitely hardware dependent. See here: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sony-Xperia-sola-floating-touch-magic-explained_id28043/

Palm touch on Galaxy Tab 2

I recently discovered an amazing feature in galaxy tab 2.
It says we can pause or mute media by placing our hand over the screen.
However I could not figure out how to do it. I tried placing my hand in every direction, every orientation but it does not work.
Please help me figure this out.
I found it using app that displays activities about any app installed in the device and is named "utter".

Which firmware are you using? 4.1.2? I never saw this function in any Samsung Stock ROM...
EDIT: I see it needs a proximity sensor (no built in GTab 2 WiFi only)
Try placing your hand in the top of the screen, close to the camera...

I have tried everything placing hand over proximity sensor, screen and even the camera but it does not work
I am on firmware 4.1.2 3G + Wifi model
This feature is hidden and hence no one knows about it....

I don't know, it requires the proximity sensor (I think that the WiFi only doesn't have) so I can't test it...
You found it on Settings or Music Player app?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
What I did was that I was using an app to look out on activities
As i was going through various activities i discovered this one
I made a command opened it and found this feature....
It appears to be amazing if somehow it could work

Well, i think that even teh GSM + wifi version of teh GTab 2 doesn't have the proximity version... that's why Samsung "hide" this feature..
No it has the proximity sensor
I use it for a variety of tasks
But i turned them all off before trying for this feature....

I think the Music app is based on another version of the Music app, maybe the Galaxy SIII's one, but this one had some features disabled...

I think there's no problem to be solved...
Samsung didn't want to include this feature and that's it... maybe there is missing some libs, maybe if some dev could modify Music app to allow it.
it's kinda hard, at least for me!

AutomateIt

Hi everyone,
just wanna share this awesome app called AutomateIt
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwyLDEsIkF1dG9tYXRlSXQubWFpblBhY2thZ2UiXQ..
it can do A LOT of automation like when leave home turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth, vibrate...etc
I really like it. Its like an enhanced version of avatar's weebo app.
Enjoy !
I like the "lost my phone" rule a lot.
You text "lost my phone" to your phone and it sends an sms back to sender with last GPS and network location.
Cool!
You can also get NFC tags and do this too. I am going to buy NFC tags and try it out.

[Question] NFC tags

Hello all,
Really want to get into using NFC on my S4 and need to buy some tags - im in the UK.
Firstly can anyone advise on decent tags that can be programmed from the S4 so that I can perform simple tasks such as turn wifi on and off, turn silent mode on and set alarm etc etc.
As you can probably tell I'm very very new to all this NFC stuff
Thanks in advance

What app are you using to code the tags???

I use nfc task launcher from the play store..it's free and easy to set up.

AndyTags ships internationally (full disclosure - it's my store). We have stickers & keychains.
Just make sure wherever you buy tags, you get the right tags for the S4 - you want to get NTAG203 tags, Topaz 512 Tags, or other tags that are NFC Type 1 or Type 2. Do NOT buy Mifare Classic Tags - they are cheap and work great with most phones, but are NOT compatible with the Galaxy S4.
You can also check out my site to get ideas for tags and reviews of good NFC Apps from the play store... Have fun!
Thanks andy..you have a great web site.

nexus 5 supports DLNA?

Hello.
They know if nexus 5 supports DLNA?
Thank you.
Yes it does. But seems like it doesn't have any built in app. So your best bet is to install an app that allows you to do so.
Is any one knows some one?
