trouble with drivers - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed the drivers from tookit here on xda, drivers directly from LG and drivers from google's SDK app. literally none of them will work for me. i am running windows XP.... has anyone here had issues with the drivers thus far? every time i download them, i'll point the device manager to the drivers and it errors out..
any help would be greatly appreciated..

I`ll try to help you:
1. Download the 0.73 drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386956 and extract the file once with 7-zip
2. Connect the phone to usb and in device manager (rightclick) delete all excisting drivers of the device and after that uninstalll the device.
3. De-connect and reconnect the device and prevent windows to search for drivers. Select the device and rightclick and select update drivers. Then choose to install drivers from the pc and choose the unzipped 0.73 file and click install.
That should work, you may have to reboot the PC sometimes.
Good luck bro.

i appreciate it. however i had tried these to no avail. i went ahead and uninstalled the current drivers, rebooted the computer and retried. however after redownloading the files and extracting, i tried to install them once again.. this is what i keep getting
it should be noted that i am unable to chose the unzipped files when pointing my computer to the drivers..

If you connect the phone to the pc by usb and go to device manager and you rightclick on the Nexus 5 and choose update drivers. Choose the second option for installing drivers from the pc and select the unzipped naked drivers file, is that not possible?

sorry, i misread your previous post and thought you mentioned selecting the zipped file! no it absolutely allows me to select the unzipped file, and shortly after it pops up the attached error stating it cannot find the necessary files..
this same error popped up for the google supplied drivers, as well as the lg supplied drivers

Strange, must be a XP thing, have you tried the Google usb drivers in the /platform-tools/extra/google section?
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514396 for some more info and post your question here. Good luck

yes, i have tried them a few times to the same outcome. maybe i just need to give it a break and try again later.. rather frustrated. i am not a tech genius by any measure but i am certainly tech inclined to the point i have never had any issues with drivers before... much less rooting/flashing roms..

trouble installing Samsung USB drivers

whenever I try and install the samsung usb drivers for my S3 the installer always fails with this message: "The MSS installation for SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones V1.4.6.0 has failed."
I had the universal naked drivers installed on this PC before for my tbolt and transformer prime, but it wasn't compatible with the S3 yet. There is an updated universal naked drivers that supports the S3, but when I try and back up my IMEI and put the phone into RMNET+DM+MODEM mode, the naked drivers don't recognize my device. in the regular MTP+ADB the drivers work fine.
so I imagine I need the samsung drivers to install for this to work. does anyone have any ideas how I could get the samsung usb drivers to install properly? I've also tried the V1.5.5.0 version as well and the installer fails as well. I've removed the universal naked drivers and tried to install without it and I still get the error. same thing in windows safemode. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.
has anyone else had trouble with this? and any idea how to get the installer to work? thanks
Lots of people have been having this issue. I'm having it on XP at the moment... until now.
Per another thread I read here (for the Dell Streak, thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291293) you can force Windows to use the generic driver instead of the Samsung one.
Basically, I edited a copy of the INF to match my device info, then entered the info into the [Generic] area of the INF. I then told Windows to allow me to manually select the driver, and pointed it to this INF file. Voila... I now have generic driver support for MTP in XP SP3. I imagine the same thing might work with other versions of Windows, since I'm not really using any non-Windows drivers.

Download and install PDAnet app to your computer, this app will install the driver for you. You have to select "Samsung" during the install. Once done you can uninstall the app but the driver stay.
If PDA net doesn't work for you, go into device manager and select your phone, click on properties, advanced, and install the drivers manually.
So, I came across another way to get the drivers to load without any INF file hacking. If you simply tell Windows (XP in my case) to update the driver, then tell it you will manually point to it, you can find a suitable one in the folder C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers\25_escape (after you install the MSS driver pack, of course).
Unfortunately, in my case, I use MediaMonkey to manage this, and it doesn't seem to notice the "difference" between my phone and my wife's (both SGS3s). That's their fault, though... they clearly have some bugs in there.
that's the problem... the MSS pack fails to install. I tried copying the samsung\USB Drivers folder from my desktop (which the driver install worked on) to my laptop and manually pointing to the folder, but it says it can't find a driver for it. kind of odd. I'll have to try the PDA net drivers to see if that will work. thanks for the help guys

[SOLVED]Xperia L Drivers And ADB Problems

Hi there
I have seen some posts where users are having difficulty connecting Xperia L to their PC or ADB. Therefore, I am writing this guide to help you all.
The guide was prepared using Windows 7 Ultimate but should work with Windows XP and Windows 8.
Firstly, Sony uses a different driver for their Xperia devices and therefore, sometimes you are unable to install drivers for your devices especially for ADB commands.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY
There are few ways to get around to install drivers for your device. The most convenient and easy is you plug in your device and wait for automatic detection of your device. Make sure you have USB connected as MTP in MY XPERIA in SETTINGS of your phone. The device drivers would be automatically installed by Windows update.
METHOD
If suppose you can not install your drivers, connect your xperia and then on your PC, go to My computer > Properties>Device Manager.
You should see an undetected hardware with a yellow exclamation mark over it. Open it and click on update my drivers. Then choose GOOGLE DRIVERS by choosing hard-drive. This should install the drivers for you. If this doesnot work. Try the attachment with the post where the drivers are modified to work with Sony Xperia Devices.
Follow the same steps but this time choose the attachment folder to search for drivers. It might say, the drivers are not verified. Just Ignore it and carry on installing them. You will need to unzip these files.
IF suppose you do not see any exclamation mark while you connect your xperia. Just go to control panel and add new hardware. Select, I will choose my device and then install from hard-disk. Select the folder where you have unzipped the files and you are good to go. The name of new hardware is not important as windows will read the drivers files and install drivers for Xperia.
This will install all drivers for your device. If there are two or more drivers while installing them. Redo the steps and install all of them individually.
Suppose your ADB still doesnot work, then
FOR ADB DRIVERS :
Download the ADB Universal Drivers and connect your device. Then hit install. The ADB drivers will be automatically detected and installed.
Further, if these tricks fail, you can delete the unknown driver from your control panel and then try finding it again by using refresh button(scan for new hardware changes) in device manager.
Another trick is to click on unknown drivers and delete them. Connect your phone and restart your phone. Then scan for new hardware in device manager. The drivers should be installed for your device.
If still there are some problems, I will try to help you out.

UPDATE :
Use flashtool drivers to install adb/fastboot/flashboot drivers. This is the most simplest and easiest method I have come across lately.
Simply download flashtool
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Go to folder where you have downloaded it. Usually C:/flashtool/drivers.
Select the drivers for your particular device. I use universal for all three types of drivers. It is helpful to boot into fastboot/Flashtool before installing the drivers but not necessarily.
Good Luck

Did you try the attached drivers ?
I am just wondering you might hadnot turned USB debugging or disabled MTP mode or something you might have done to your kernel/ROM that might have changed the environment of your phone which factory reset reverted back. These drivers are NOT the drivers for connecting your device to your PC. These are used when you are unlocking your bootloader or working with ADB/fastboot commands.
Thanks for your contribution about how it worked for you and it might help others who might have a problem!
you can use ADB Wireless

For a second when I looked at your images, I was just baffled. THOSE MANY UNKNOWN DEVICES! That can't be right you know.
There must be only ONE unknown device that ought to be installed as mentioned above in my post.
Do you see these devices when you connect your phone to your PC or those unknown devices are already there?
Have you tried windows update to fix it?
Tell me more about why you see so many devices.
If suppose, they are already there, just see which device comes up when you connect your phone and try installing drivers for that particular device.
Also, i suggest just go for add a new device and then select hard disk and then install drivers which are attached. I hope that fixes your problem.
REMEMBER your device must be connected when you are trying to install the drivers
right.i'm gonna give it a try, wish me luck. thanks!

just go to device manager, connect phone and find ur not recognized device; then right click on it and press update/install drivers. From the window that will appear choose socond option (it should be something like manualy find drivers or something like that), then navigate to that downloaded folder. This way it should install them
But XL doesnt need any external drivers. If u install fasboot an flashmode drivers from flashtool folder they should work; they are working for me and for anyone i know. U may also install SEUS and then connect phone. This way u dont need that drivers, but ofc what i have mentioned earlier should work.

Hi
well first thing you need to understand is there are three drivers you need to install to make everything work including fastboot , flashboot, and Xperia L storage and SD card.
To install each type of drivers, you must have the phone in that particular state. To install normal drivers (for mass storage and PC companion), if suppose not detected automatically, you need to turn on your phone and then unlock it. Then see if drivers are found or not!
If the windows give you the error like undetectable device attached, go to my computers and then properties and the device manager and look for any device with an exclamation mark (yellow).
click on it and then select update drivers and use drivers that have been attached in the first post. (Remember to extract the attachment in a folder)
Then click on select drivers from hard drive (click manual installation of drivers )
and locate the folder where you have extracted drivers. This will install drivers!
if you want drivers for flashmode/fastboot, turn off phone and boot into flashmode and then install drivers as I mentioned above.
I'm quite certain they wouldn't trouble you at all. If you still need help, do not hesitate to ask !
Good luck
P.S: You will need to enable developers option and select USB debugging to root your device. I hope you are doing that right !

you must boot your phone in fast boot mode. turn off your phone and hold down volume down when you connect it to the PC!
Use flashtool to flash ftf file. you'll need to place ftf file in C:/flashtool/firmwares
then select the right file for xperia L and just flash ftf.
in flash tool , select flash n then fastboot and then I'll ask you to put your phone in fast boot (use method mentioned above)
good luck !

[Q] ADB Help

Please take your time to read this.I will keep it quite short, but try to understand my problem.
Ok so I am trying to enable USB debugging for my Nexus 5.But everytime I try to install the ADB driver, it says parameter is incorrect (I'm using windows vista).
At first, I didn't have the SDK installed, so I downloaded the 70 MB SDK Manager, and from there I downloaded the platform tools & google drivers, then I tried installing the drivers manually using the Device manager using both methods of locating the file manually using the have disk method and the locate the directory and include sub folders method..but both have failed to install the driver and it keeps saying the parameter is incorrect.
Suggestions?
Use a different driver from the one included in the SDK. Either use the USB driver package provided by lg(I did this and it went flawlessly) or use the "naked adb driver" which is a simple adb driver that should just work.(I used the former because the naked driver is third party and not properly signed, so it's a pain to install on windows 8)
Find either through a Google search.
Edit: nvm this guide includes the links required: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/nexus-5-driver-adb-fastboot-installation-guide/

i am sorry to ask this but are you having problem enabling usb debugging? did you activate developer option by tapping build number seven times?
Man this stuff gave me such a headache same issue here. But with fastboot. I had to manually update the drivers while the phone was plugged in. That's what messed me up.
First uninstall all drivers
While phone is on.
Update drivers with USB debugging enabled
While phone is in boatloader
Update again.
Adb and fastboot should work fine after that. Use one of the exe type drivers. Like LGS driver .exe than go into the device manager and update. Let the computer find the drivers.

[Q] Issues while installing drivers

It has now been over 7 hourse since i started trying to unlock the bootloader. But to no use. I tried downloading the Universal ADB Driver and the alternative given on the thread. but facing issues with both. I dont think the drivers are getting installed correctly. While the later didnt do much, i tried the alternative which reads:
1. Install the latest Samsung drivers: SAMSUNG USB Driver v1.5.33.0
2. Restart the computer (very important)
3. Go to Device Manager, find the Android device, and select Update Driver Software.
4. Select Browse my computer for driver software
5. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
6. Select ADB Interface from the list
7. Select SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface (this is a signed driver). If you get a warning, select Yesto continue.
Done!
But on step 6, I dont see any option to select ADB interface. really bugged with this issue as I have watched several videos on youtube but none is really addressing my concern.
Btwn..not a noob here..Have been around since 2011 and did a lot of modding on my Nexus 5. But I can certainly use some helping hand here..
Cheers!!

Download the correct drivers and after connecting the phone to the PC/Laptop, go to Device Manager and right-click the entry with the yellow triangle, then Update Driver, Browse My Computer For Drivers, then Let Me Pick From A List of Available Drivers On My Computer and then choose the drivers you downloaded and install.
If still facing issues, driver signing may be an issue, so search the internet on how to install drivers after turning off driver signing on the PC/Laptop.
