[GAME][2.0+] mPlode GDX [FREE] - Android Apps and Games

Hi everyone,
after years of benefits from this great community, I finally decided to put myself in the game. With, well, a little game I know that starting with an Android game it's probably not the best way for a wannabe developer, but let's face it: ideas for games are much easier to come by (at least for me).
This little casual game, mPlode GDX, is my very first attempt. The mechanics are pretty easy: you tap the screen -> you create a blast -> you try to destroy many explosives triggering a chain reaction. I know, it's not an original idea, but I wanted to try a different approach, so I introduced bonuses, difficulties, and special exposives with different special effects.
Unfortunately I only have a single Android device for testing, my PC doesn't seem to like the emulator+openGL combination, and the majority of my friends have iPhones; for what I know, on some devices the game layout could be completely broken.
Therefore, your feedback is vital to me :fingers-crossed:
Give it a try if you have 5' of free time!

Works fine on 3 year old ZTE skate, JB rom and armV6 I love these types of games, nice and simple yet annoyingly addictive, and I like the smoothness and graphics on this one. A* recommended, would play again.

Great, thanks a lot for your input it's much appreciated! Performance on non-multicore devices was a big concern of mine, happy to see it's smooth on a ZTE Skate!

Helium Boy - Charming New Platformer! ...unplayable unless you're on an Xperia PLAY!

https://market.android.com/details?id=beril.mootor.helium
I see a lot of reviews from people playing this on touch-screen phones that say that the game is lovely/charming, but also noting that the controls are awful.
It's no secret that touch-screen is trash for every genre but strategy/puzzle... but platformers have ALWAYS been the worst of the worst to control on a touch-screen. Don't believe me? Slide your Xperia PLAY closed and try to play Meganoid with touch controls... see how long it takes for you to ragequit.
...with this statement being true about the sheer mediocrity of touch-screen controls... I'm a bit giddy when I get to say how much more playable it is for Xperia PLAY... with realistic, competent controls, all the complaints are removed, and it's nothing but good 'ol fun and charm.
It's challenging though. Very.
looks nice
I freakin' love it.
with Xperia PLAY control, it is perfect.
It's sad when a gem like that will be hidden in the market. It need to be among the recommended games in Xperia PLAY game launcher.
i like it but it is damn difficult..
I played all of the 8 stages and currently repeating some stage to complete the stars.. a lil bit challenging..
"i like it but it is damn difficult.."
I think you should start with the beginner difficulty till you get the hang of it. The camera will stop moving forward and then you can advance and collect the stars with your own pace.
thankyou i try to night
Helium Boy is now in the Xperia PLAY Game Recommender.
Apparently for any game to be accepted in the recommended games in Xperia PLAY launcher, certain fees is needed for testing and certification process.
Helium Boy -according to the developer- failed the testing & was rejected because of some bugs at the first time, looks like he fix it & passed the test now.
Played this on my iPad. Was great.
Downloading now
Not gonna lie, I got my Play for free and wasn't interested in the games at all(in fact when I got root, I froze all of the pre-installed games). But, this looks pretty cool.

Games Discussion Thread

I was about to create this thread at general discussion but i guess it belongs here, we can share recommendations of games and talk about performance on our devices.
Just downloaded the new ZENONIA 4https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gamevil.zenonia4.global
Love the series and 4 is the first episode with HD graphics, which woud be awesome if it didn't ran so sluggish on x10 i'm on vmcms 2.3.4 rom, anyone on different roms had a better experience?
I'll leave a recommendation, Dungeon Raid https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fireflame.dungeonraid it's an addictive "trace puzzle" (don't know how to describe it) with a fantasy rpg theme, match three or more icons of the same type trying to draw the longest line, the mechanic is used to attack monsters or defend, collect gold, potions, very easy to get into but deep. This is an excellent time killer and a great value if you enjoy this type of games.
Need for speed shift and reckless racing work very well
Xperia x10(Feralabs Rom) After trying all roms it was my Fav.
Now on the RAZR.
I see you Drinking that ¥Hateraid¥

My experience is that zenonia 4 runs sluggish on any rom that uses a modified stock kernel. I've only had smooth experience on a rom using the cm7 fxp kernel. FXP 10* or miui dark edition based off cm7 are basically the only two running it smoothly

EA NFS Hot Pursuit and EA Real Racing 2 running perfectly. The most awesome graphics to embrace a smartphone game. Ever.
Others: Modern Combat 2, Splinter Cell, WC Cricket Fever
MIUI 2.2.3 overclocked to 1152 MHZ.
I'm playing Asplhat 5 and Rainbow Six right now.
Rom : Oodie's MIUI prime x
Asphalt runs fine however Rainbow six lags a lot how do I improve it's performance? If you're gonna ask me to overclock then please tell me how do it because I don't know how to.

edit: nevermind I figured how to and it doesn't help.
Does Shadowgun runs well? it seems to be the most graphically intense android game.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.madfingergames.shadowgun
the best looking 3d game i've seen running on x10 was Dead Space.

what you got at the Play Store (i'll never get used to this name) sale this week?
i've gone crazy, purchased Cut The Rope, Shadowgun, Quell Reflect, They Need to be Fed, World of Goo and Osmos HD there are more games and apps available for very cheap prices, don't know for how long.
Osmos - you are an amoeba-like blob that moves by ejecting it's mass and must consume other blobs that are smaller than you, as you eat you grow bigger and can assimilate bigger ones, unless they assimilate you first. The challenge is controlling your movement in a way that you don't waste your mass and there are a series of tasks you must complete. A creative and clever game with very nice presentation, it runs fine on x10 with occasional stutters but no bigger issues.
Cut the Rope - this one doesn't require much introduction, it was a huge smash on iOS and it's quite sucessful on android as well. several puzzles in which you must cut ropes in order to feed a small lizard with candy, cute and with great physic effects, adicting and well worth the cheap price.
They Need to be Fed - looks like feeding is a recurring theme with those indie games, this one is a simple yet cool 2D puzzle platformer, traverse a series of obstacles involving gravity and collect diamonds to feed a creature in the end, one of those masochistic games in which you die tons of times until you master the levels but it's nice and addicting if you're into meat boy or similar.
Quell reflect - a good surprise, it's a puzzle game where ou must guide a drop of water through a series of obstacles, flicking your finger starts the motion which can't be stopped, sounds tense but it's a relaxing game with a nice presentation. Oh, no feeding here.
World of Goo - a pretty popular game widely available on PC and Wii, gameplay fits very well with touch screens and performs fine on x10, you must guide a bunch of black blobs of goo through the scenery by creating structures, you touch a goo and swipe it to the position and connect them. the physics can be a bit unforgiving but the game is very well done.
Shadowgun I have not tested yet because it downloads a lot of stuff and I couldn't finish yet.
help me
how an i install nfs shift and hot pursuit on ma xperia x10 rooted running on 2.3.3
I guess shadowgun is too much for our old X10, it only shows the opening sequence but when it starts loading the first level the phone reboots.
will keep it for when i purchase a new phone.

Runs perfectly on Cobrato MIUI. I just reboot the phone before playing - it frees up all the RAM and kills unnecessary background tasks, and RR2 is buttery smooth.
I've been using feravolt's V12 Enhanced Edition and of all the stock roms I've tryed it's the best for games performace, there's an optional boost gpu script but even without using it there's a noticeable improvement. However, playing games will eat your battery even faster than normal.
Kairosoft's new game Dungeon Village has a lite version, it's a cool and addictive sim game as usual, but it's kind of a casual ripoff of another game called Majesty (available for both PC and Android), where you manage a fantasy town that must attract adventurers to it. Majesty can get brutal in the later levels, I have no idea how Dungeon Village will evolve but it looks much more simple.
And of course, Angry Birds Space was unleashed upon us.

I'm not so sure Neo.Emu supports the people that made the game. This game app is made by SNK Playmore.
It's more than a simple port of the original game. Xperia Play Optimized, full Play button control, 16:9 support (it really just stretches the image ), old school display scan lines, anti-aliasing, bluetooth multiplayer, etc.
Support your local skateshop. :good: I bought it because I can download it to both of my Android devices and enjoy multiplayer. Not exactly sure it is worth the $6.99, but it is definitely fun. Will post screenshots later if you guys would like.
Wait, this is Xperia Play Optimized? Ohhh will get, I love Metal Slug.

It is so much better to play full ported games then emulators. They run at full speed and with everything intact (sound, graphics, etc)
Not saying emulation is bad (I play with emus most days) but it's use is for games which can't be played natively, for getting a more original feel to a certain game if its changed for the worst in the porting, or for playing your legally owned game copies.
Emulation is mostly looked upon as illegal. This metal slug 3 is an arcade game, who here has a old neo-geo metal slug machine that can legally make a Rom for use with mame or other? Anyone?
Sorry to moan but hate seeing comments like this all the time. We need to support developers or the gaming business go's bust and new games won't be made.

Well... iOS got an upgraded version of KoF-i (which we know as King of Fighters Android) with a ton of new characters and online play.
Perhaps this is a sign of more SNK support to come? If we can get that as our definite online fighter... damn... the one piece of leverage my PSVita holds over Xperia Play is gone :\

Great on Tablet S as well, multiplayer is very smooth, no lag on either device when playing linked. Only complaint on Tablet S is that , when using a DS3, R3/L3 is jump not X
LAGS like hell on my XP running stock 2.3.3 , even after a fresh boot and running Supercharger Super 512hp and engine flush.
Tips?
The game starts like a thunder, but after a few minutes it becomes unplayable...
THE LAG IS TERRIBLE!!!
We need an update right now to fix it, many of us love this game... And $6.99 was really expensive for a very laggy game!!!
WHY GOD, WHYYY!!! :-(
same with above . . . .become laggy after few minutes play . . .any suggest ??

at what point does it start lagging for you guys? Boss battle?
I had problems playing several different games when I was running custom ROMs, since flashing OEM 2.3.4 I haven't had any issues.
the latest app update took away the menu sound effects, booo. everything is still smooth for me however.

Blazing Star - SNK PLAYMORE - OUT NOW!!!

Love this game, played it to death in the arcade when I was younger. Came out today. I have not played it yet so I cannot tell you if its Xperia PLAY optimized, but I am hoping that since the King of Fighters was optimized (sort of) this will be too.

Since no one really responded with anything back then, I might as well just come back to tell all of you on the fence of getting this, that this game is very well optimized. Good, responsive hardware controls and full-screen resolution for the XP. Plus the soundtrack is awesome! Here's a gameplay vid:

Mame/Neo/Cps Emulators are great but where is the challange. I like and brought these official ports (metal slug too) for 2 reasons. 1) Bluetooth multiplayer 2) a limit on credits. Where is the challange if you can keep shoving fake credits in, it makes these games too easy because you have no real death. Its like cheating and there is no point in that when you are only cheating yourself out of a good game. With metal slug on Emulator i completed in a hour (fun over). On the official port not even half way in and been playing hours worth. At least with emulators like Snes and PSX you have limits as its built in to the game (Saves states are also bad but still mean you have to get past the place your stuck on dying). I am happy to recommend these ports over the emulated way
Original MVS cartridge are 'free play' at will anyway, but you are right about arcade, nothing can beat the 1coin challenge and bt coop option is the best.
My previous bought of metal slug for android was a disapointment, few option, gallery mode, slowness this one seems better optimized. I think save state is a bless to train yourself in the hardest level without crawling again the whole intro + much more freedom to simply save your progress.
My fingers thank autofire as well. I found vsFighters a bit more difficult compare to the arcade because of the controller, xplay paddle is tiny and snk special moves can be tricky.

Do you have some advice for me? I am new in this job of developers.
Short feedback
I like the font you used for the game. It gives you that space-ship themed interface. You could add more to the background though, like some nebulas or differently sized stars which some of them could twinkle to give it that dynamic effect.
However, I really like the movement of the ship, it kind of angles off when you turn it and the thrusters are really cool. In terms of graphics it looks kind of retro-style which is nice!
I think the 3D render of the asteroids are a good idea! But I think you should add more variation like maybe some subtle color variations.
The interface is nice but I think you should cramp the shield bar on the left just so everything is in one place when the user does a stat check. I don't know if it's just me but I think you should try making the control UI smaller or replace it with a joy-stick-themed UI (which can complement the space-ship themed interface) my thumb is tired :'(
Overall the gameplay is good and the sounds are decent. I think it might be a bit easy (playing on extreme mode) or maybe I'm just pro; maybe you could add bigger asteroids? or a different variations of obstacles? One which is faster than asteroids or one that's slow but hits harder or maybe like an obstacle that can only be dodged by using the shield (maybe like some sort of nebula storm? or a gigantic comet).
I rated it 5 star!

Thank you for your detailed feedback
I'm still continuosly working on the game. I will take your suggestions into account in the upcoming updates. Especially the part with the more dynamic background and variatons of obstacles.
I changed some behaviors yesterday to make the game a little easier(Shielded collisions didn't reduce the speed). I will think of increasing the acceleration in extreme mode, to make it really extreme again
What score did you achieve?
Update 1.0.3
Code:
- UI adjustments
- Solved an issue that on some resolutions the lives were out of bounds
- Collision with asteroids is now also reducing the speed when the shield is active
Version 1.0.4 with Play Services out now
Code:
Brand new features
- Sign in with Google Play Games
- Online Leaderboards (separated by difficulty)
- 23 Achievements
Changes:
- Strong increasement of difficulty in extreme mode
If you want to get the word out about your App I can do a review for a spot on the App Wall & tweet it out to the 43k Followers on Twitter. It can give you a good boost on your downloads.
