[Q] Nexus 5 -faulty devices - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello.. i would like to ask something because im terrified!! i have read for many faulty devices (Nexus 5) with problems (pixels, speakers, buttons, battery, dust) on many forums and sites. The number of faulty nexus 5 is very big for me, but is it something logical for the global market?
i mean, is this happening to other products or smartphones like samsung's or is it something absurd?
im terrified cause im from Greece and im gonna buy it from play store in uk through my cousin. but.. if this product has problems, i dont know if i could to return and replace it.. cause im not sure for google's policy and nexus' 5 warrranty. also the 15 calendar days deadline for RMA is smth that i probably don't missed.
any help and advice!
thanks in advance..

We are idiots, not HTC!

Do you think when you buy a porsche or a ferrari and you can not drive because the wheel fell of or the windshield blew off in the middle of nowhere the factory tells you: oh sorry this a new model, you keep testing it and maybe if we get enough complaints we will fix it. NO!
When you pay top dollar you get a device that works out of the box, period.
HTC is using us as their testers, but makes us pay a 1000$ for it and lose our time perfecting a half-product they placed on the market before it should be released, plus the customer service treats us as idiots and lies directly : oh we got a lot of good feedback...(yeah right like I was going to call them to say how good a device is), or we dont know anything about a gps lag....f*uck you sit in the car a take a drive idiot!!

So, what you're saying is HTC is just like Windows? ;-)
i agree htc brings out to many high tech phones.with a very high price tag.but there are always major bugs.no kinda of exception for a $900 usd phone that all of sudden does't have 3g.
now most us owners lost a good $300 of the price in less than a month because it doesn't support 3g.htc doesn't even say there working on a new radio.
i know apple brings out a new product every 90 days,at least they listen and stay with product updates.

Oh come on. Everyone knows that if you are an early adopter, things never work quite as they ought to. Happens with every major tech release. It shouldn't but it does.
The reality is that the majority of features on the TP work just fine and fortunately thanks to the geniuses on this forum, the GPS lag has been all but eliminated. No doubt at some point (provided we press HTC), a fix will be released.
So when you get your Nokia, you should look forward to a whole different set of problems - no platform is even close to perfect.

This post I really can't agree with, when they released it they never intended it for North American sale, and you knew that when you bought it. Did you read the part in the specs where it said UMTS 900/2100? If you did, you should've said "hey, this doesn't work with 3G on AT&T... I'm not going to buy it." Why don't we blame Toyota for their Corolla not running on diesel? Oh yeah, because it was never meant to.
When I got my N95, the battery life was terrible, it kept running out of memory and i had to use hacks to bypass their silly protection and install unsigned apps. I also had to use nemesis suite to hack the device and change the product code to prevent it from loosing Greek when I used Nokia's updater to upgrade the firmware, which cannot be downgraded and now, newer devices and latest firmwares cannot be hacked yet, so if you do buy one you won't be able to install unsigned apps.
At least with HTCs we have this magnificent community to create custom ROMs and rectify most problems. Just my .2 cents
Hands down...best $1100 I've spent in a long time. I knew going into it that I wouldn't have 3G here in the US. The advantages I have over my T-Mobile Wing (US HTC Phone) is countless. I have minimal glitches, but with all phones that do more than make calls, it is to be expected. I'll be a beta tester anytime for HTC!
i totally agree with the OP,in other hand if the devices were perfect we would not have XDA devs
what 1 must realize in todays competitive markets things get rushed out the door to make a buck ,hence why all devices will be never out of beta stage. there is 2 solutions for the problem; 1- stop buying new devices .2- learn to live with it.
well the thing is that HTC doesent even want to realize that their devices have flaws. And all the flaws are software related. In other words fixable. just look at the TyTn2 and the driver issues there. There still is no fix from HTC. And people here on the forum had to use drivers from the Diamond to fix it. HTC just keeps on making excuses like the HTC Pro was never ment to be a multimedia device when support is confronted with the fact that the TP plays video poorer that the Diamond. I know that the pro istn a multimedia device. But i expect that the hardware that i have paid alot of money for actually does what its supposed to. Why on earth shouldnt it? I love my TP, but HTC should reallt take care of their reputation..

ey man nice to see you again here...
take care and hope everything will be nice for you and yours....

I've been developing software for mobile devices for five years, and worked with hundreds of models of handset from Europe and North America. I'd rate HTC devices as "above average" in terms of quality. Nokia are neither better nor worse. Get the first Nokia models of a new series, you're in for some "fun".
I have a Nokia. The MP3 player causes the phone to reboot randomly. If I cross timezones, then when I get home, some birthdays in the calendar have moved to the wrong day. Sometimes, it suddenly stops working, saying that the "SIM Locked", and I can't make or receive calls until I reboot it. It's Orange branded, so the Nokia firmware update tool won't support it. Other than that, it works a treat...
I could give you a similar list of problems with other Nokia models, or Sony Ericssons, or Motorolas... and I wouldn't even consider a Samsung, NEC or LG.
And I suspect that anyone buying a Ferrari for the reliability will be sorely disappointed.

It seems to me that what's getting under your skin the most is that customer service is saying their aren't serious problems, and that the phone is primarily working as intended.
Well, thats their job. Have you not ever seen a CSC in person at a corporate office? It's a bunch of highschool grads who don't know anything about anything that just talk nice, create a ticket in whatever helpdesk software they are using, and forward it or close it.
Just call in, politely state your problem, and if they get enough calls logged, development takes notice and things get fixed.
I think what you need more than an $1100 phone, is a $20.00 script for Xanax. Best of luck with Nokia though.
Mobile phone manufacturer in 'not everything works properly' shocker.
Our brand new Audi had a digital display that was on the blink from the moment we bought it. And sometimes the front windows would lower themselves 6 inches after you'd locked the car and walked away. Lots of other owners had the same thing. Think Audi fixed it? Fixed any of them? The replacement Porsche (I'm not showing off here by the way) has an lumpy idle, unreliable horn and the steering pulls harshly to the left. Fixes from Porsche? As if.
In common with a previous poster, my experience with Nokias was far more frustrating than with HTC. And if you want diabolical, allow me a few hours to relate my experience of being the fairly happy owner of a Sony Ericsson P800 even happier with the P900 and then to be floored by the abomination that was the P910. Never never again.
Yes mobile phone manufacturers are guilty of getting things wrong, but in that knowlege, I'm just happy I own an HTC and know about this forum.

Amen to that brother. While I may not own the Touch Pro, Fuze, or whatever the hell you feel like calling it, I know for me personally, HTC has put out some of the best phones I've ever used. I remember way back when, I was in love the Moto Razr (ew, I know) but then I laid eyes on the good ol' boy that was the Cingular 8125 aka the Wizard. I've been hooked on HTC ever since. Lets face it, if you try to go back to a cheesy ass LG or Samsung phone, you're going to be disappointed as all hell. They just don't compare to the customizable nature of the WinMo HTC devices. Granted pretty much all of HTC phones have had (and still have) their share of issues, but lets get real here, they are simply the ****. I've had my 8525 since its release and there's no way I'd switch to the X1 for example. SE?? Would you rather have a WinMo rookie in SE or the season veteran that is HTC? I don't know about you guys, but I like experience.

Put this in my sig, legendary. haha
Hopefully when Microsoft gets off their lazy asses and overhauls the OS, it will be easier for the manufactures to make a reliable device.

Please Urgent Quick Advice needed

Im on orange and in my upgrade period. I was going to go to another network but i got a deal from Orange.
Please can you help urgently with what you guys would recommend.
Last week i went for the Blackberry 8900 Curve but i am used to touchscreens and told orange who advised i could have the below phones. Also i wanted the SE Xperia X1 but was told that this was "never" released on Orange due to not passing various tests and that they would highly recommend against it. I see on here that the new Xperia X2 is soon to be out, when that is i dont know and if it will be a normal non buggy functional phone.
Nokia E71 - not touchscreen though
Blackberry 8900 Curve - Not touchscreen, not 3G, 150 sms storage limit
HTC Hero
HTC Touch (apparently cant have the pro version??)
HTC Touch HD
Samsung Omni HD i8910HD - OLED screen doesnt last long??
Nokia 97
Toshiba TG01 - Review doesnt have much favour for it at www.techradar.com , phone is also quite big
Can you guys advise cos it will be a 24 month contract and i rfeally dont want a handset that will be a problem for all that time.
I have used previously the SE P910i/P990i and also the HTC tytn 2.
I liked the P910i thought it was slow and then i came across the P990i and was unhappy with its sluggish performance, buggy software, and constant problems inc bluetooth not wanting to work with all other handsets. I liked the SE P Series phones as they backed up my contacts/sms etc onto a pc so if i ever losty the phone i could retrieve it and as well as that being able to do a lot more with them than a normal phone ie programs and ability to save unlimited (as far as i could tell) Sms/Mms etc.
The Tytn 2 would have been ok but it really peeved me off a lot of the t, ususally from the touch screen not feeling my touch lol. ALso a key thing for me, it didnt backup the phone contacts or sms.
PLease could you guys tell me what is a good phone to get and also of any other recommendations as i have tried an dtried to look on goog;e and reviews etc but it seems i keep getting the wrong info or if it is right i get more negative reviews than positive. Its really frustrating me now.
I would like the following functions:
Touchscreen
Backup to pc of phonebook contacts/Sms/Mms
Ability to be able to save unlimited Phonebook numbers and Sms
Ability to be used as a satnav using the Oraneg (UK) nav software or possible other co
Preferable to have 3G capability
Intuitive GUI
Least amount of headache so no buggy software or not doing as told lol or real slow performance
I will use as a media device but as a bsuiness pda type when i can start a business.
I need to know in the next asap i had to tell them today but they have been pushed to tommorow.
Please help and if you need any more info please do ask. As far as i recall i think i have covered it all.
Thanks
Welcome to forums
I would go for Touch Pro 2, and in second place I´ll chose Tosh TG01
Uhh..hello Hero.
although this isnt completely relavent to your post
u say u want a reliable phone as you dont want a problem phone for 24 months
theres a clause in orange contracts thats states if you have 3 faults the same during ur contract then thy will offer to give you a different handset
it takes a while too argue but it works
after sending me faulty samsung omnias that kept failing (handset lockups) i told them i wouldr prefer a different phone as id rater not have a 4th faulty phone
one guy told me this isnt in the rules isaid id take it up with another department they said it is in the rules but they logged my three handset locjups as keyboard failures. so there fore i wasnt entitled to a ifferent handset
after only three days of constant *****ing they finally told me theyd send my a touch hd
the moral to the story, dont be scared to ***** and moan
After playing with my wife's HTC Magic, I would happily recommend the HTC Hero. Capacitive touchscreen, responsive OS, plenty of apps for download, "proper" satnav through CoPilot Live and decent location services.
If you're set on sticking with WinMo then the Toshiba TG01 isn't bad at all. Yes it is quite large compared to some handsets, but the raw speed is noticeable in general app use and the screensize would make satnav a joy.
Another one to consider is the Samsung Omnia B7610 (Louvre). Think of it as a Samsung version of the Touch Pro 2.

Any reason for the touch pro over the TG01? ALthough i was put off by the review of the TG01.
Also i dont think they will let me have the touch pro as its on the orange business section.

Lol Thanks
Pilot -
Thanks ref the isnurance advice.
I have been down this route and to say i was talking to brick walls or that getting water out of a stone would probably be near the mark lol.
Orange were adamant i didnt have a problem with my SE P990i and also didnt tell me about the 3 strike rule either.
I was a good boy and didnt ask for a different moidel for about 18 months. The phone would just trun the backlight on fo rno reason on and off, the bluetooth decided it didnt like lg phones etc, it would do soo many things that would peeve me off and to think that my old trusty P910i was thought of as slow, man that was like a Pebtium 4 PC compared to the lowly P2 status of the P990i.
Yeah, basically one day after having lost my cool a few times with orange i got fed up and asked for a different model phone (after like the 5th replacement and all the palaava to get it flashed with backup etc taking an hour each time or so as well as the time wasted and onconvenience. They wouldnt do it cos they then aftyer 18 months said i have to have had 3 faults with it. I said wtf, howmany times have i rang you, how many replacement have i had, they then said no actually you need to have reported the same fault 3 times and i said wtf again - i said i have had the same faultS for 18 months with at least 5 handsets fi the same model but they said well... it depends what WE have logged on our system and wouldnt you believe it they had different logged faults for each scenario. So i said send a new P990i and iw ill show fault on bluetoothe again, so they did and i proved it again an dthen again. SO 3 times and each of these times ie 5 before and twice later they tried to charge me 30 pounds as per conditions through my insurance with them. The cheeky so and so's. I told them 2 year sony gurantee they said no, rang sony with them on the line, they shutup but then said i had to deal with sony direct, referred them to consumer law which apparently they dont know anything about, so i reffered them to their lawers to ask such questions, each tikme i had to go through this ****e and they each time pretended they had no idea what i was going on about.
Anyway, i have only claimed once in like 13 years for a mobile phone through orange.
£5 x 12 = 60
£60 x 12.5 = £735 the bsterds
Thnaks pilot, i wish i had joined this site like a coupole of years ago man, i did se it but i thought no point, could have saved lots of headache lol with your advice then.
Thanks pilot
sorry about the spelling mistakes, its late n cant be asked.

Main reason are 2:
1. It has hardware keyboard, for me is a must
2. Is HTC build so it will have better support on this site

Which phone to buy or not to buy

Ok so i have been an HTC guy for a while now but due to some customer service issues and my lack of excitement surrounding WinMo, i am looking for a new phone.
I have had most recently the Touch HD from HTC and now I have the branded TP2. I love my TP2 but its constantly crashing and i know Win7 is on the way and all kinds of new Android goodies as well.
NOW
my issue is this, i have looked all over the net and seen all types of phones but im not sure what i should look for next.
Is there anything coming that anyone knows of that is worth waiting for?
I have seen the Windows 7 phone due out next month, but its missing an entire row of keys that my TP2 has and I think i kinda like the number row on my qwerty so i think that phone is out. I like the Desire Z but same issue there as well.
Is there anything coming from another vendor maybe with Android that has a keyboard on it? What about the Nokia phones, the resolution is not as good but what about the phones?
I just hate to spend a load of $ like i have in the past on these UK versions of the phones only for them to suck like 6 months later.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
**Also some internal memory would be nice as well
**I also need to use the phone in the UK so the Droid stuff is not usable
thanks

Is Nexus S a safe bet?

So, I'm on the Legend (previous Hero) and I'm tired of HTC updating FW. I want pure Google.....
I'm not particularly "happy" or impressed with the Nexus S. It's basically a year old phone...bla bla, you know what I mean. It SHOULD have been more impressive. Right now it's being overshadowed by nearly every new phone, even the new SE phone. Who would have thought.........perhaps Google didn't want the Nexus to outshine other phones, but wanted a safe/tested platform to test new Android on?
BUT I'm willing to give it a try, only because I hate HTC and their update policy. But I have to get this from the US since I'm in Europe and....I'm uncertain about the build quality and hardware quality. A lot of people are reporting problem allready. If I get it, I prob won't be able to return it for warranty.
How safe a bet would getting the Nexus S be?
ANOTHER one of these posts? Seriously, there's tons of threads about people "unsure" of the Nexus S. Why not post there or something.
Me, personally, I love the Nexus S, much better than the crappy Nexus One I had, which has/had REAL issues. Nexus S? It has ZERO issues for me.
Sounds already you don't want the Nexus S, by saying you're not happy/impressed/year old phone/etc.. so don't get it. We're not going to convince you otherwise.
This thread is pointless.

That's all that matters.
there's no safe bet
there will always be a new phone around the corner with better of everything
if you need a new phone now, buy it
if not, keep waiting for the next best thing
There only seems to be a lot of issues for the Nexus S. People that are not having issues are not posting nearly as much (or not at all) as those that are experiencing some kind of issue. By that, I mean starting new threads with "x is broken, check yours?!"
Personally, I love my Nexus S and I am experiencing no issues. If you keep waiting because there is a newer phone around the corner, you'll end up never getting a new phone.

Exactly, and a common phenomenon across any product-related forum. Most of the happy people with no problems don't spend time posting how much they love their device on a forum, unless they're like many of the regulars here who just love chatting in the forum about the device or trying to help others. (The Development section's a different beast, of course.)
A personal example is me and the Ford/Microsoft Sync forums. I've only ever visited them when I was having issues with my Sync features. To read those forums you'd think Sync and MyFordTouch was total crap, but they're not, once you get past the few problems early adopters had. I haven't been back to the forums there since resolving mine, because I'm not really interested enough in the product to talk about it a lot.
If you want pure Google then it is definitely a safe bet. How often to any other pure Google phones come out?
Even though my I know my nexus s is outclassed by the newer DC phones coming out, I am still keeping it because I know when honeycomb comes out for phones the NS get it and all the other phones will be stuck on 2.2.
So yes its worth it to me.

[Q] Nokia Lumia 1320

Hey,
My contract is ending in a month or so, and it's time to search for a new phone. To be honest, I'm not interested in "Flag Ships", I just want a bigger phone and something different, I'm a bit bored of Android.
Right now I have an LG Optimus L5. (Phones in Serbia are crazy expensive, e.g. S5 here is 800 USD on contract.)
And then I saw the Nokia Lumia 1320, it came out this year it's affordable, it has a big screen and it looks awesome. So I wanted to see if any of you, have used this phone, and I'd love to hear your input about it. Or if you have a suggestion on a different device, go for it. (Devices I can get are listed in the end)
Note, I'm not looking to play heavy games on it, I have a Nexus 7 for that sort of thing. I need the phone to do 7 things, call & sms, twitter, internet browser, wifi hotspot, play music, and some light games to kill time in transit.
Phones that I was offered for my contract:
Lumia 1320
Lumia 630
LG L80
Samsung Galaxy Core 2
Sony Experia M2
Also, if I accidently posted in the wrong section, Mods please don't delete the thread. I'm kind of new here.
Go for the Galaxy Core 2 mate, it seems the best one from the offered ones

hmm sure you hate android because you have an l5 as me, but the bad of this phone is the hardware and lg tht didnt update our phone, so...

To be honest, I like android and I have an android tablet (Nexus7) which I'm using right now. And I've been using Android since v1.6. But as my post said I'd could use a change. I am aware that WP has only a few good apps in the store, but I don't need anything else than the basic most common apps like Twitter and Deezer. Secondly, I absolutely do not want to spend more money on a better android phone or a so called "flagship".
Indeed the L5 was a disappointment, in every possible way starting from the screen right down to the performance. But is not the reason for my wish to switch.
Probably the biggest issue with Windows Phone 8.1 is the availability of apps and games. But it's not something that concerns me on such a level that I would give up on buying it. I also forgot to mention that I like the build quality of the Lumia device(s).
