I just upgraded from Nexus 4 to Nexus 5. My Nexus 4 pairs fine with my Subaru Impreza WRX stock stereo, but when I try to pair the Nexus 5, I get a "Failed" message.
I have paired my Nexus 5 with a Chevy rental car and with a Soundkick with no problem. I have paired my Subaru with a Nexus 4 and Evo LTE with no problem.
So they both work fine independently, but Bluetooth is not working between the Nexus 5 and the Subaru. Interesting that when I put the stereo in pair mode and then select it from the Nexus 5, the stereo says "Failed" but then the phone prompts me for the password. However after I enter the password, I'm back to the device list and not connected.
Subaru's stereo is terrible so I'm guessing something is not right with their implementation. Any suggestions who I can contact to get this resolved?
Maybe you got to many pair devices to the radio. Delete the Bluetooth history.

Its a terrible stereo. Said it was full when I first tried to pair so I had to delete the history anyway. No luck. Re-paired my Nexus 4 just to confirm and had no issues. Then failed again on Nexus 5.

Bluetooth pairing is funky on the n5, I had the same failed message a few times while trying to connect to my dodge journey. Most of the time it couldn't even detect my car stereo, but eventually I got it to pair up

I have had this issue on my 2012 Outback as well. The first attempt at pairing always fails. If I retry pairing again right away it'll work. The same process was required for my gnex as well.

I had this issue too- 2012 Forester.
It took a few attempts to get it to pair, re-entering the pin a few times and I did have to delete the history (I had to do this every time I flashed my Samsung Captivate, so I did expect it).
Now, it won't stay synced. I have to pair it and select device every time I get into the car. Today it kept saying "not available", I could get audio, but no phone connection; I toggled in and out of airplane mode, (just to avoid a reboot), turned the data on and off, and suddenly I could connect again- but I have no if my toggling made it work.
I just thought it was a Subaru issue (it's a pretty basic bluetooth system, imho) but there are some other threads about it (though the car make isn't listed)
I don't rely on bluetooth a lot in the car (just for long drives) so it's not a dealbreaker, but I feel like it should work and connect automatically if my old Captivate could.
I have two problems with my Subaru WRX....
1. It doesn't always connect right away and even when I try to connect through settings manually it doesn't always want to. Sometimes it takes 2-3 tries.
2. When it does connect, sometimes it won't connect to the phone function for bluetooth.
This is terribly annoying.

Same here, 2012 Subaru XV... Really quite annoying...
Basically won't auto connect at all and usually have to delete and re-pair the phone to get it to do anything other than pair just the audio part.
Mine has had no issues with Ford Sync in my Mustangs.
seeing what is going on here in this post is making me sure that the bluetooth on the nexus 5 needs alot of work... I too finding hard time to pair up with my computer bluetooth.

Definitely annoying. The stock subby radios are junk though. I plan on upgrading soon so I hope that fixes my problem.

I'm sure it's the nexus 5's BT? I'm thinking since it's a newer version, some radios with older versions have a hard time connecting. I'm not certain though. Just a thought
I've was having the same issue with connecting my Nexus 5 to my '13 WRX's stock radio. It wouldn't auto connect after my car started and each time I had to go into the Bluetooth menu of my phone and manually connect it to the car. Sometimes the phone would connect with talk capabilities, but most of the time it wouldn't.
Today I updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.1 and it appears my Bluetooth issues are gone. I had to re-pair my radio and phone, but after that they reconnected with not issues. The connection feels like it is established faster than what my GNex did, but I could be wrong.
Pair using the voice commands the whole way through. Works fine on my 2011 WRX.
Done this method, the pairing will stick and you should have no issue with voice or audio pairing.
Have the same issue with a Nexus 5 and a 2012 Subaru WRX base stereo.
FWIW, I tried a bunch of different things and read a bunch of theories and possible solutions. This is what worked for my Nexus 5 and my 2012 WRX:
1. Delete other phone profiles.
2. Reset bluetooth settings on stock (non-nav) WRX headunit
Still couldn't pair (said "failed" on headunit each time as soon the phone prompted me for the passkey) so...
3. Paired wife's iPhone via steering wheel controls/voice with no issue.
4. Still wouldn't pair Nexus 5.
5. Changed Subaru headunit passkey to "0000" (from factory-set "1234").
6. Paired Nexus 5 easily through steering wheel controls/voice.
I probably would have been able to pair simply by changing the passkey originally however once I deleted both prior phone profiles from the headunit, I couldn't access the headunit's bluetooth settings without at least 1 phone paired. Hence the step with my wife's iPhone.
Hope this helps someone.

This worked! Though the only step necessary is Step 5 - change the passkey to 0000. This allowed pairing (through either bluetooth menu or voice controls) with no passkey prompt.
This presumably bypasses the authentication protocol which seemed to be failing. Fantastic.
Unfortunately, still not a perfect solution, since turning off the car makes it "forget" the pairing. Don't need to repair each time, but do need to go to the bluetooth menu in the head unit to manually select and confirm the Nexus 5 device. A bit of a hassle, but only takes a few seconds and then call and media audio work great.
Android 4.4.3 is rumored to include bluetooth fixes, so hoping it helps this issue. Unfortunately I suspect the issue is on Subaru's side.
I blame your stupid sideways pistons for the problem
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Looks like Android 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 fixed the issue. I set the passkey on the head unit and when connecting from Nexus 5, it prompts for the passkey and successfully connects after I input it.
Unfortunately, still doesn't connect automatically when entering the car, need to manually select it on the head unit every time after turning the car on.
I think the problem is Subaru setup the stereos to work very well with the iPhone but nothing else. it's hit or miss with the Nexus 5 but my 5S connects automatically the moment I turn the key.

Hello,
In my car I have the Parrot CK3000 evolution car kit installed.
I can pair it with my nexus without problems.
After pairing incoming and outgoing phone calls should be routed through the handset but that doesn't happen.
My wife's htc hero, after pairing with the same handset, easily allows to establish the connection beetwen the hero and the handset long pressing the "parrot 2.51C" item in bluetooth settings and clicking the "Connect" item.
Long pressing the same item on my nexus shows a popup menu where the only option available is unpair.
Did anybody manage to make this handset work with nexus one?
For your information my parrot car kit has software version 2.51C and restarting the phone, resetting parrot memory, unpairing and pairing again didn't make any difference.
Regards,
Francesco
have a look at:

Although this is for a ck3100.
I have this kit too. I'm at work so I can't test the link you put up but I don't think it will work. The nexus actually pairs with the device, it just won't connect. and the 3100 has an lcd screen so it runs completely different software
I used Parrot CK3100 with HD2. Everything was good! The sync was working very good with tons of rom. I tried with Acer Liquid. It was good. But when I tried with Nexus One original rom and Cyanogen rom I had a big problem with number. I always store the mobile phone number the following form: +36XXXXXXXX. All other phone managed it perfectly but N1 not.
I can sync the number with Parrot but the number was the following format: 36X-XXX-XXXX
It is WRONG!! I can't call the number without "+" I tried with the latest Desire (A10) rom and everything is fine!!!! Like with HD2!!! But the pairing is horrible with the A10. So I use Desire rom now.
I'm talking about a CK3100 here, but I had a problem when I first tried to pair it yesterday, it said it paired successfully but it didn't connect at all, no matter how many times I tried. The solution procedure for me was (maybe some step are not necessary at all but that's how I got it to work)
1. Unpair and delete the reference to the Parrot unit from the phone
2. Turn off phone bluetooth
3. Turn off car bluetooth (keys off until the Parrot turns the screen off)
4. Turn on phone bluetooth and enable visibility
5. Turn on car bluetooth
6. Pair from the Nexus One to the Parrot, enter pin
7. A request to access the agenda apeared on the phone, accept and you're ready to go.
I don't think it matters but just in case, I'm on stock rom (update1) and rooted.
PS: It's a total pain in the ass to have to re-record all the Parrot voice tags whenever I change my phone...
I managed to connect my CK3000 with N1 using the procedure that danimar1 describes.
No luck in copying my contacts to the parrot :/
Did anybody have success with this task?
F.
I've experienced this on other carkits too - it'll pair, but audio never transfers. Obviously a bug in the N1. I hope they fix it soon
In my case routing phone calls between parrot Ck3000 evolution and nexus one works.
The thing that I'm not able to do is to transfer my contacts.
Francesco
the ck3000 doesnt support contact syncing i dont think. that is the one bummer about android phones and bluetooth, no voice tag support. with my bb, it could use the phones voice recognition to voice dial from the car kit

and what firmware is your ck3000 on? im assuming thats an issue for me because ive never updated mine and its still at 2.10 i think
I'm sorry I have a CK3100, but anyway I never updated it. I got it a little more than 2 years ago, so I don't think it would be a firmware version problem.
Anyone else seeing some odd behavior with bluetooth pairings? I keep on having to re-pair with my laptop (Win 7 64x) and my car (Audi S4). Complete pain.
I use it with my computer (Win 7 32-bit) and my Motorola bluetooth headset, no problems since I first paired each (sometime in July).
I have the same issue at times....quite frustrating and I have found no way to stop it from happening....
Yep. I get this too. My only fix has been to turn off my plantronics earpiece and when turned back on it connects.

I am JH3 as well, FWIW. Dunno if JF6 gave me the same problem. I now have 3 of the same device in my Win7 BT folder. I also remember seeing the BT settings reverting to old ones.
Problem I keep on having is that the media profile, or A2DP, setting won't enable when I turn on my stereo bluetooth headset. It'll sometimes reestablish the media profile if I keep on turning off and on the bluetooth setting on the phone and headset, but most of the time I just end up having to re-pair my it. Would be awesome to know if anyone knew how to fix this.

More Info
While I don't have a solution, I have researched this problem a bit.
In my experience the problem happens when I disable the phone capability of a device.
For instance, I have a pair of stereo bluetooth headphones that I can make calls with, as well as listen to music and other audio.
If I edit the profile and disable the phone function, the whole device disappears from my phone if I reboot it. If I leave the phone option enabled, it does not disappear.
Disabling the media option does not appear to have any affect as long as the phone option remains active.
My rom is stock.
The pairings don't disappear, but my motorrokr s9-hd disconnects and I have to restart the player and then press the headsets connect button. Just hitting the connect button only activates the display, but doesn't start the player. The way the headset connects just isn't right.
There are things like the headset disconnects and the browser crashing, that sometimes don't happen for days and then will happen repeatedly in minutes.
I do hope that froyo fixes some of these problems...
I have some similar problems. I have a Spracht AURA Mobile BT Speakerphone in my car and I don't use it that often but when I turn it on it doesn't seem to keep the pairing every time. It worked fine with my TouchPro on WinMo.
Another strange thing is that when it is working and I turn off the BT on the phone then come back in the car and turn it on again and it pairs, it immediately starts redialing the last number I called. VERY annoying. Fortunately I've caught it every time but I don't know why it would do that.
Hey guys
Strange issue here. I paired my phone with my car through Bluetooth to make and receive calls using the car audio system. It works well.
However, if I fire Google Navigation, I can't here the spoken instructions through either the phone speaker or the car speakers.
I was not expecting navigation audio to be routed through Bluetooth audio, but I did expect the navigation instructions to come out of the phone speaker, as it does on the nexus one or the vibrant both running Android 2.2.
Is anybody else having this issue?
Thanks

Bluetooth doesn't stream audio to car - what's your experience
I've got a Ford Edge with the new Ford MyTouch/Sync system.
The Nexus S connects to the Bluetooth just fine; makes and receives calls perfectly. It will also connect to the Bluetooth Audio Stream for music playback, but won't play the audio over the car's speakers. Also, sometimes it connects, holds the connection for just a few seconds and then disconnects. My SGS and Nexus One work as expected, as does the iPhone, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the car.
Seems like a bug in the NS to me.
I'm curious if others are streaming audio/music to their auto's BT system without issues?
It would be especially nice to know what anyone else with a new Ford/Lincoln is experiencing, but I'd also like to compile a list of what cars work and what don't.
I'm going to have to find some other BT device that I can test the stream on to see if my phone works with it or not. Maybe my Nexus One dock? I've never used that to stream audio even with the Nexus One.
In terms of troubleshooting my problem, I've already rebooted the phone and the car, un-paired and re-paired the phone with the car.
I've got a Mazda RX8 R3 and the NS will pair with the in-built car BT but drops the connection after a few minutes. It then refuses to connect again unless I re-pair, then a few minutes later it drops and we're back to square one.
The car's in-built BT worked fine with my HTC Desire, Hero, iPhone 3G and Blackberry 9700 so I'm guessing the Nexus S has a Bluetooth issue.
Mine works fine on my aftermarket Sony receiver.
having issues with bluetooth audio too, stream keeps breaking every now and then. Any fixes?
I've only streamed to the car stereo and had no issues. The phone is only about 10cms away.
Haven't tried my BT headphones yet, maybe range is the issue.
*On original ROM.

no problem here
using Bionix 1.2
You're lucky, I can't even get BT music streaming to work with my car. No other BT devices to check with besides my Nexus One dock, which has no speakers.
BT works great for the phone, though, to make and receive calls.
Problem with Bluetooth
I cant get to work bluetooth on Nexus S.
When i enable it and try to send something from SGS to Nexus S it says me "This tranfer was canceled by the user" (Nexus S)
SGS says "Remote device rejected your request"
When i try send something from Nexus S, but use not function Send, i use function Bluetooth - it says me "The application Bluetooth Share (process com.android.bluetooth) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I tried factory reset, wipe cache, tried flash any other roms, but got NOTHING helpt me. I have this problem on 2 phones (2xNS).
Can someone give me files of BlueTooth share? (com.android.bluetooth)
That's an interesting problem you have. Mine did the same thing transfering from my computer to my NS. I just tried it again when I read your post (to make completely sure what the error was) and it has automagically fixed its self.
Well, seems i need a file \system\app\bluetooth.apk

Bluetooth Device: Car Honda CRV 2012
Background:
1) I have two bluetooth devices that I use with my phone. Blueant Q2 bluetooth headset and Bluetooth enabled car audio system in Honda CRV (factory not after market)
Note: This works fine in all GB ROMS
Behavior
1) Bluetooth is different in GB and ICS. Go to Settings => Bluetooth and look at Paired Devices.
- In ICS you will see a Settings wheel next to Device Name. Click on that and you can see "Phone" and "Media" Profiles.
- GB does not have these profiles separate.
See attached image for the state of Phone and Media profiles after I start my car.
2) Bluetooth "Phone" Profile does not auto-connect. "Media" Profile auto connects and works fine. I need to go to Bluetooth => Settings => Click on wheel next to Device Name => Check the checkbox next to "Phone" profile everytime to connect the phone and send-recieve calls using Bluetooth.
3) Steps to duplicate the issue
I see bluetooth icon seeing it connect
Few seconds later I see message "Samsung SGS ..... has been disconnected"
At this time "Media" is connected and "Phone" profile is not. In Honda it shows that Phone is disconnected (even though "Media" is connected and Music plays fine
Finally If I try to connect to Phone via Honda it always fails. But if I open Bluetooth settings and select "Phone" profile it connects and remains connected.
More Information
My guess it that in GB there were no separate "Phone" and "Media" profiles. Phone would just connect to car or headset via BT and stay connected. With ICS the phone is initiating two processes. First Phone profile connects and within few seconds when Media profiles tries to connect. This somehow throws off my Car and my BlueAnt Q2 BT and it drop the BT Phone profile connection

New public methods fetchUuidsWithSdp() and getUuids() let apps determine the features (UUIDs) supported by a remote device. In the case of fetchUuidsWithSdp(), the system performs a service discovery on the remote device to get the UUIDs supported, then broadcasts the result in an ACTION_UUID intent.

I have the EXACT same issues with my 2012 Honda CRV (Non nav). (well, I’m working on this on behalf of a friend, so their car)I hooked it up to another my car with a Pioneer Avic X920bt head unit, and it was doing the same thing. I then did a firmware upgrade and initialization through KIES and now my Avic loads up, but the Honda is doing the same thing still. Although, before I did the wipe the Honda would disconnect and reconnect randomly and it would take forever for the phone profile to connect and it looked like the bluetooth would turn on and off and “freak out”. So far it seems stable, but I have yet to have much time with it.

I have a Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.4 that worked perfectly fine. Both profiles reconnect upon turning a car on and off. I wonder if Honda is detecting the kind of phone and sending the way to connect based on that and not by what OS version it is. Just a complete guess. Also, I tried with a T mobile Galaxy S II and the same thing occurs on it's ICS update.

Sorry, T-mobile Galaxy S II does same thing as the Skyrocket. Yup, same thing..honda says connection failed when trying to connect through the car. I sent Honda an email and all I got was a generic responce about turning your wifi off and repairing.
Same behavior with Infiniti G37S
I have the same behavior of my AT&T Skyrocket with SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.1 and 2011 Infiniti G37S. It is driving me nuts that I have to manually reconnect Bluetooth every time. Furthermore, it tends to disconnect Bluetooth randomly and I have to reconnect it again.

It would be great if one of the dev can find a way to install GB Bluetooth files on ICS. GB worked perfectly for me.

A Google search shows a lot of people have the exact same problem. It might be safe to say that this is a known problem and hopefully it will be resolved soon..

I have more confidence in our dev's fixing this or finding a work around. It might be as easy as replacing ICS BT libraries with GB ones. However I am unable to get their attention.
I have the same issue but with a Dice Mediabridge installed in my BMW. Works for about 10 min then drops, will reconnect with a reboot. My Jawbone Icon stays connected and works fine, but that just had a recent firmware update. I hope this is resolved soon.
Finally a ICS Rom that works for me - see OP
So, what is so different in that ROM? How can the 'fix' from that ROM be applied onto other ROMs?

CM9 is pure google. No junk from AT&T
Works on CM9
It works perfectly on CM9 builds - I'd hope other ROMs can be modified as well...

It works for some time like a week and them boom same problem.
I am on FORD EDGE, rogers.
BUMP: Still have issue
The last poster says issue comes back even running ROM. I have been dealing with this most annoying issue and still have it. I noticed when i uninstall Pandora app, its goes away. Seems to be a bug in the bluetooth stack and Pandora. Were you guys running Pandora at the time? Seems weird this thread just died with no resolution. Anybody care to explain to me what the fix is if any? does this problem follow the Galaxy S4? I am using an LG HBS-700 earpiece but it did the same thing on my Plantronics. is there a Jellybean available for this version? if so, ATT has not released it for over the air. Thanks.
Its not ota you have to use kies software and his thread is almost a year old

Thanks for your suggestion, it was actually helpful but as far as the comment about the age of thread.. if someone is suffering from the exact problem i dont think it matters much.
So, I wanted to let anyone else struggling with this bluetooth issue what worked for me. I downloaded and installed Samsung KIES software on my PC as suggested above, performed a full backup of phone and made sure it was fully charged. Now, there will be an upgrade to JellyBean from within KIES. UPGRADE! after upgrade perform a restore and most all your stuff comes back.
** A few of my games/apps installed on my SD Card kept uninstalling itself. this is a bug in JB. Go to Settings, APPS, and move the app to your phone memory and that fixes it. **
Other than that, i have been running the update for a couple of weeks without all the annoying bluetooth issues and its like having a new phone!!! LOVE THE UPDATE.
Only issue is i have more battery drain than before. i have read that installing Jellybean clean install fixed that but will have to research how to do that. Good luck.. hope this helps someone else.
P.S. this is update is NOT available over the air, so dont look for it from your phone. only the KIES software gets you this update.
I just would like to quickly check if anyone has the car Bluetooth pairing issue for Nexus 5 and anyone has a solution for that? Thanks.
My wife and I both received the latest Nexus 5 from Google 1 week ago. I have rooted and installed the DroidKang v14 Xmas Edition and Google APK package and also installed the Mod fixing the volume issue. Everything looks fine until we try to pair the nexus 5 to my 2013 honda Accord LX.
the Honda HandsFreeLink Stereo found my Nexus. It connected. However, the stereo disconnects and reconnects repeatedly, with the phone displaying the message, "Unfortunately, the process com.android.bluetooth has stopped." I tried to reboot the phone and also play around the Bluetooth function, the error still come out. It looks like that the error will happen every time when the car Bluetooth tryes to import or read call history or contact info from the phone. So I changed Car Bluetooth setting and disable syncing info from phone. Now the connection does not drop and I could hear the music in car from phone. However, I lose the most function for Car Bluetooth because I cannot see call history directly on car system.
Even the Bluetooth connection stables after we disable syncing function. The bluetooth connection will fail again when we walk back from retailer store to the car. the reconnection will disconnect and reconnect again and again. it is so crazy and unusable.
I do not know if this issue is related to the phone hardware or the CM ROM. I have not tried other ROM but at least I know my old HTC phone and samsung phone seamlessly connected to this Honda Car Bluetooth system. There is no any issue. So I think the issue is related to Nexus 5 or this ROM.
I will try to do more research on this. in the meantime, if anyone has the same experience or a solution for that, please let me know. Thanks.

Definitely the CM ROM. I have a Nexus 4, and since upgrading from CM 10.2 to 11, I've been experiencing intermittent BT dropouts with my Pioneer car stereo that I've never experienced before.

i have the same issue with my Mercedes A bluetooth connection. it's very annoying. I am running CM11 nightly of yesterday....so far only 1 cm nightly worked....I think is was 14-12-2013.....I wish there was a way to revert to this only with the bluetooth part.....so far...no solution
I have a Honda with Honda link. I have that problem when I have the read sms feature on the car enabled. If I turn it off then it works fine. I use it daily for a 50 minute drive each way to work.
I don't ever use the call history on the car, but the voice call works fine. And of course streaming music, which is mostly what I do with it.

I'm on kangakat BT to stereo audio call and text with no issues -dodge truck. Worked fine on stock as well so I would try a different ROM and see how it acts.
