Old news brother and most if not all Roms come with a tether unlock that the Dev had built into it.

I think T-Mobile can detect when you are tethering (I know that AT&T can, and they have put the hammer down on a number of users for doing this). You could try calling TMO as they have offered a "free" tethering option at least twice in the past year. I did not know about it, but when I was about to leave for Sprint I was transferred to "retentions" and offer a number of goodies, "free" tethering was one of them. I put free in quotes because it seems idiotic to me that they need to charge you differently for data depending on HOW you are using it. I mean If I am paying for 5MB per month, why can't I use it however I choose to? Ugh.
Get a cheap vpn and use it to encrypt your connection.

Google Wallet Update

So Google gave wallet an update that allows it on many carriers. Anyone had gotten it to work on AT&T yet with out mods?

Not supported
It say Not supported.
"Unfortunately, Google Wallet is not yet available for your device or mobile network"
I have Stock AT&T S4
Works for me as well . . .
I'm running a GE ROM with a working Google wallet preloaded. I'm also in at&t.
I highly recommend using the ROM since it really cuts out the fat and gives you pure Google. I can post a link to the ROM thread if you like

Check the play store again, I just checked it and it had update for me. On a Touchwiz based ROM right now so its nice to be able to use this.
Works, after update. Thanks
Iep! Finally we have the wallet working on [email protected]!!! I have install the app from play store

The app works but that's only because it has new features. Still doesn't seem to allow credit card use through nfc (I don't see an option)

Rooted MF3 and it installed and seems to be working fine. I'll test it tomorrow. Woot!
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4
It works on my rooted GS4. However Menu -> Settings -> About -> Tap and pay says: "Not available"
What good is it then?

NFC devices
Tap and pay functionality is available in the US, and requires one of the following NFC-enabled Android devices running 2.3 (Gingerbread) or higher, with a Secure Element chip, on select carrier networks:
Phones
Motorola Moto X on Sprint and US Cellular.
HTC One SV (running Android 4.1 or higher) on Boost Mobile.
HTC One® on Sprint.
HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint.
LG Viper 4G LTE on Sprint and Zact Mobile.
LG Optimus Elite on Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Zact Mobile.
LG Nexus 4 GSM/HSPA+ on Google Play.
Samsung Galaxy Note® II on Sprint and US Cellular.
Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint, US Cellular, and Google Play.
Samsung Nexus S 4G on Sprint.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Sprint.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM/HSPA+.
Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE on Sprint and Virgin Mobile.
Samsung Galaxy SIII on Sprint, MetroPCS, US Cellular, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile.
Samsung Galaxy Axiom on US Cellular.
Tablets
ASUS Nexus 7 (2012) on Google Play.
Samsung Nexus 10 on Google Play.
At this time, tap and pay functionality is not supported for devices purchased internationally. The eligible device list above only applies to devices purchased from the listed carriers next to them. For example, an unlocked Samsung Galaxy SIII purchased internationally will not work with Google Wallet tap and pay.

Since you can install it now that is half the problem that we faced before. Just change the build prop to a Sprint S4 and try

App to use hotspot with unlimited data

I am getting ready to root my phone (4.4.3, NE1) mainly because I've heard if I do so I can enable the mobile hotspot feature without using foxfi and its certificate, etc. Is this true - do I need some special app for this?

They can't use most roms as they are on a locked bootloader, they are very limited. As far as tethering I know Foxfi works but I have no use for it

Sorry...Forgot about it getting locked down...Foxfi is good I used to use it on my unlimited plan...

[Q] Is it possible to buy factory unlocked note 5, root it, then use on Verizon?

So, title says it all. Is it possible to buy a factory unlocked note 5 (like say...perhaps from Ebay), root it and then use it on Verizon?
Yea but you might not get 4glte only 3g, why would you do that though when the Verizon note 5 has already been rooted?

Thank you for your quick response. I haven't seen where the Verizon variant has been rooted. Do you have a link?

iroot doesn't work for Verizon and in the second link it doesn't work for Verizon, either.
Yah your right I didn't fully read through the comments, u can use a T-Mobile for Verizon I did it for the note 4 before it got rooted and worked on Verizon without 4g, but I was getting really fast 3g speeds at least 10/20 mbps, the note 4 is also a great phone that is rooted on verizon

Thnx. I was considering the Note 4 but am quite frustrated with how Verizon is trying to lock us down lately. While I've had Samsung devices for a long time, I'm now thinking about the Nexus 6P...
I would go with nexus for sure or one plus devixe, but the note 4 retail editions have now all been successful in converting to developer editions witch is really dope, it brought life back to my device.

Any option for data tethering anymore?

Looking to share the data signal from my Verizon Note 5 with my car Android head unit. Does FoxFi or anything similar still work? I am using the Verizon MVNO PagePlus. I have not yet activated my Verizon Note 5 since I need to confirm that tethering works first. Software version on Note 5 is still factory 5.1.1 for now. Any input will be great. Thanks.
Tethering works just fine through the Verizon data plan with the built in hotspot. I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but it is an option.
Sent from my SM-N920V using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I appreciate the tip. This device will actually be used on Verizon MVNO Page Plus. My understanding is that tethering is not natively supported.

I think you are correct that MVNO plans do not support tethering. So, if you can't hack it to work, then other data plans may be your only option.

Thanks for the input. Maybe FoxFi would work before 6.0 update, but I have just decided to keep my Note 3 for now and sell the Note 5 I planned to use instead.
