I used to use BetterBatteryStats, but the play store description says that it is not working for KitKat. Any recommendations for a battery stats app that is working? I am having some issues where my phone is awake when it should be in deep sleep per the internal battery stats and want to pinpoint what is going on. Thanks in advance.
look for the BBS thread here on xda, they have a beta version out that works on KitKat.

It's not working at the moment. I contacted the developer and got a nice mail back explaining when it will be available...
'Unfortunately, Google has removed the ability to obtain Battery Statistics in KitKat
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=61975
Unless Google reverses their change, the only current solution is to use the Xposed framework that requires root. The latest version of GSam available to beta testers ( https://plus.google.com/communities/114290544861047241859) includes a fix via Xposed, unfortunately the framework itself is not yet generally available on KitKat.
I'm working on alternative mechanisms to retrieve the data, however it looks like root will be required at a minimum I'm afraid.
Regards,
-George (GSam Labs)'
I have read that Xposed is not yet available for us, but hopefully it will be in a few weeks.

You need to install a better app. The Android built in power usage thing is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and better battery stats isn't much better.
Try system panel from Play, you will need the paid version from here. Put it in monitoring mode and leave it for a few hours.
You will be able to see what is chewing CPU then, and that is invariably the thing that is causing the drain. It very rarely fails to assist me with diagnosis of an obscure drain issue.
Ok..just bought system panel app.will update about this crazy battery drain later..
Thanks thalamus..

Cool, it's well worth the couple of dollars.
I've used it pretty much constantly in monitoring mode since they were in beta when I had my desire. So, probably not far off a couple of years usage with me.
It doesn't eat battery either, because it polls when the device wakes up for another reason.
And the thing which really makes it good for me, it records usage of the system tasks, such as kernel threads, which can be massively handy in diagnosing an issue.
Solved by flashing latest adamG ROM..
Thanks adam and thalamus..haha..enjoyed my nexus s back...

Hello I am having heating issues. I'm not sure if this is normal or not and would like to know if there is anything I can do to reduce the heating issue?
I rooted my phone about 3 months ago. I installed the Liquid Smooth Rom. However I re-flashed TW because of some feature that I missed.
I have these apps on my phone: Rom Toolbox; Titanium Backup; EZ-Unlock; Root Checker Basic; Rom Management; Root Explorer; SD Booster; Trickster Mod & Supersu.
I've tried underclocking the phone by lowering the CPU max in both Trickster Mod and Rom Toolbox but both seem to revert back to the highest CPU settings.
My issue is that when I run my tethering app (pdanet/foxfi) my phone gets really hot and my battery drains like crazy.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I mean, I have those apps I listed above but really don't know how to set them up correctly to control my phone efficiently.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
prolonged tethering is going to stress the battery. Plus, pdanet and foxfi are not too reliable or efficient (my experience)
if you're on TW, I'd do a search for WifiTether_TrevE_Mod. I think it may be on google playstore as well.

Ok, thanks so much!
I'll look it up. I take it that it is more reliable and easier on the battery?
EDIT: I'm sorry, but I am a bit of a newb here. I did a search and came across this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
I'm sure this is the one that you were referring to. However I can't seem to find a download link. (Maybe I'm blind or just don't understand). I also did a search on the play store and came up empty. Can you point me in the right direction please.

Ok, great.
Also, is there a optimization thread somewhere? I would like to know how to optimize my phone for top battery efficiency while not giving up to much on the usability side. I know about screen brightness and keeping my sync off and all of the basic things. I would like to know how to set up my system and such. I've froze many of the bloatware apps using TiBu but this hasn't resulted in the marked improvement I was hoping for. Maybe I didn't freeze the right ones.
One recommendation. Don't run 2 CPU management apps at once. Bad **** happens. Gerry rid of rom toolbox and keep trickster

Hey guys,
I am using my Oneplus One with CM11s latest version and Franco Kernel r35.
I manage to get about 5 hours of SOT, which is quite okay in my opinion.
However, Android OS is using about 15% of total battery, which is high, isn't it?
Can someone explain to me what actions could cause Android OS to account for this much battery usage?
Another question: I never see GPS or Bluetooth in my battery stats. Are they 'part of' Android OS?
Thanks a lot!
When the screen is off, Android OS is nearly the only one which puts load on the cpu in this phase.
so do more with your phone and the Android OS should go down on the list.

It's Google Play Services that's using the battery, try this:

Thanks, but I have already fixed that.
With this problem I wouldn't get 5 hrs of SOT, i guess.

Try flashing an older gapps version, which has a a < 7.X version of google play service then make sure that google play does not automatically update google play service. I am using the 6.5 version. If you use this approach also do not update gmail app, it will require you to update google play service to the battery drain version.
newer does not mean more stable or better

More information would be good. The more info the better, currently with the info you've provided it's pretty difficult to help. What ROM are you on? Stock or custom kernel? Are you currently using any battery saving techniques or apps? As suggested above, use BetterBatteryStats for a day and post the results here so we can analyse.
Hi,
Every KitKat Rom that I tried was affected by some kind of battery draining bug which has to do sth with Google Play services. Can you recommend a fix which works by doing it a single time? Uninstalling/stopping Google play services fixes the problem for a few hours only.
However, I would prefer a rom which is not affected By the bug out of the box.
I'm testing Racpu_ cm11s. Was having Google Play service wakelock, but learned somewhere on Oneplus forum about this: Install Disable Service from play store, switch to system tab, check SystemUpdateService. That somehow eliminates the wakelock. Today is 2nd cycle, 4hr screen on for youtube netflix under wifi, still rocking 48% of battery.
Cool, Ty, didn't know about this Bugfix, will try it. Why are you testing kitkat Roms in 2016?

Please tell me about your (major) findings about your research. How do you log and observe your the battery consumption? Which configs for sync, screen-of-gestures, brightness ?
I can share my findings also, if you want.

Now I'm on slimsaber kk build, about the same SOT, feels slightly smoother than cm11s maybe.
Did my trick for the battery drain, but now Google Play services FC unless I set location to device only, oh well...opengapps btw.
What have you tried out so far? Did my trick work for you at all?

Since I opened this thread, I am on Karbon kitkat which seems to be a fork of Slimxxxx
Fortunately, I did not get an always active bug until now, so I didn't try your Bugfix.
How much SoT do you get with your roms and which configuration.?
Most times I get 4 hours with the following config
- brightness static 50%
- sync, tapToWake and offscreen gestures off ( just in case...)
With following usage profile:
- no 3d
- no video (out of short clips)
- chrome, messenger, quora, Google news
- telephone 45min
- 75% WiFi, 25% 3G

With Racpu's cm11s and Slimsaber KK build, I didn't get to use the battery all the way to like 1%, but I already got 5hr SOT before that. Here are more details.
Racpu's:
- auto brightness
- youtube and netflix a lot, some xda and chrome, abou 30min phone call
- always on wifi
- greenify in exposed mode
Slimsaber KK:
- auto brightness
- 3hr LTE, rest on wifi
- about 2hrs of youtube and netflix
- 40min navigation with google maps
- a few camera shots
Don't think this is scientific enough, but hope it gives some idea on my usage.

YouTube, video in general does really really impact SOT measurements. You get about 1,5 to 1,8 times more, I measured it a lot. Navigation is the other extreme : 3d, GPS and most times a high brightness because you are outside (on daylight)

Ah OK, that seems right. I didn't do such detailed research
Now I'm leaning towards what most people say: Battery life depends on how you use the phone.
Also, I think OPO has an amazing developer community and all roms are of high quality and yet retain their own unique qualities like functions etc.
