[Q] Bootloop, fastboot is not recognized - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I tried to unlock and root my device with the nexus 5 multi Tool 3.0 and now i am stuck in a bootloop.
My nexus is unlocked, it had installed CMW (yet i had chosen to selected twrp. Normaly it should have rebooted but it went automattically in CMW). So i wanted to go out of CMW and it asked if it wanted to restore the original recovery but i denied it and then it stuck in BOOTLOOP.
I tried the unbrick tool of KWOGGER but it failed, it said "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file"
Since i could get into CMW i tried to do a factory reset but it would be still in bootloop.
I then tried; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701, But it still said "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file" when i doubble clicked on "flash-all"
I Am getting desperate here, i just got my device. Can someone please help me

Install drivers. Don't use toolkits until you know what they are doing.

Follow this to return to stock. Then don't use tools but learn how to do it manually. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47156064
Edit, saw I linked you to the same site. Don't panic. You don't have adb fastboot set up right. Follow those instructions carefully.

[Q] Can't access root and Google apps

I recently rooted my phone (T-Mobile US Nexus S) and installed the 4.0.3 OTA update from this thread, but now I cannot access any Google apps or get root access on any of the apps that require it.

Ok! first download : http://www.4shared.com/zip/XG506hyV/icsroot-fastboot-recovey.html
just unpack, connect your device and click run.bat.....Good luck!
I ran the .bat, but I get an error saying "Device already rooted", but it is still not recognized as rooted by SuperUser.
Alternatively, is it possible to completely wipe the phone of everything (including root) so I can start over with a fresh phone?
Of course you can, and might be the best idea if you don't mind doing it.
Make sure you have the latest CWM recovery on your phone, download the FULL ROM from this thread (i'm not american so i don't know exactly, but from what i know yours is the I9020T, so get that ROM) and copy it to the SDCard. Now go into recovery, wipe system/data and dalvik cache, then flash the ROM.
Do make sure you have the right ROM though. This will get you 100% fresh and untouched 4.0.3. You can probably clear out any non-personal folders on the sdcard too, but that shouldn't do any harm anyway.
After this, use the attached file from this thread to root, and feel free to update root/superuser.
Actually, that's what I did...I can't use CWM recovery because its displaying an error of no root. So how do I wipe this or fix CWM?
Is your boot loader unlocked? And are you trying to flash cwm through fastboot?
Note to backup your sdcard if unlocking the bootloader.

My bootloader is apparently unlocked and I'm trying to flash through fastboot.
Are you sure the following is satisfied:
-open padlock and google logo on boot
-fastboot (on phone) says "bootloader status: unlocked" or something of the like
-you are using: "fastboot flash recovery "C:\path\to\recovery.img""
-you are using the above command while connected to the PC via USB (with working drivers) and that you are in fastboot mode on the phone (turn off phone --> hold Vol. Up then hold Power TOGETHER for about 2 seconds, should give you reboot and recovery options)
It is necessary to be in the bootloader/fastboot interface on the phone when you run the command. Hopefully it was something simple that i said above, otherwise i'm completely lost.
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I didn't use that method to root...
4. I'll try that.
3 is just flashing recovery, that is the code u type into cmd/terminal to reflash the recovery img. It isn't rooting the phone. 4 is how to get into the mode on the phone to use the command.
Its a bit confusing at first but makes much more sense once you do it one or two times.
Where do I go to get the recovery image?
The latest ClockWorkMod Recovery can be found on this page. Just scroll down to Nexus S and download 5.0.2.0 crespo .img. Then just direct fastboot to the folder you have it saved in while using the "fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img" command.
Ok. I've tried this, but in command prompt, I get the following error:
C:\Users\Bruce>fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\Bruce\Downloads\recovery.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Check out this rooting guide, however only go up to step 5 (and do NOT type "fastboot oem unlock", do everything up until that point). This will setup fastboot for you, and setup drivers for your computer. Once this is done, do what you did above and it should work successfully.
Remember to cd (change directory) in cmd to where you unzipped that folder.
There isn't a link...
Sorry, stuffed that up. I fixed the link in my previous post pointing to NexusSHacks - How to Root Nexus S.
It's worked, but when I try to go to the recovery menu, the Google/unlocked padlock screen freezes or it displays an Android with its chest compartment open and a red triangular ! symbol.
I just had a really long reply and managed to lose it by closing the page..
That's the stock bootloader you see there, it probably didnt flash or you rebooted your phone. And make sure that you are flashing the latest CWM you downloaded before.
I flashed the latest CWM, but when I try to go to recovery, my phone freezes at the Google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Have you tried flashing it again, or maybe redownloading the file? And of course making sure it is the NEXUS S version which you are downloading.
Alternatively, try just "fastboot boot recovery.img", replacing recovery.img with the full name and path of cwm.
edit: btw, i'll be gone for an hour or two Bruce so i can answer any more questions/issues when i get back

[Q] Nexus s 4g locked up

Okay, first of all I know, I'm a total noob. I have followed these forums a long time and have successfully rooted a few phones. One of which was my nexus s 4g. I was trying to unroot the phone so I could get ics. This is when I ran into problems and right now I just want to be able to get my phone working again. Right now I am stuck on the Miui boot up screen and no matter how long I wait it stays on that screen. If I do a battery pull and hold down power and vol up I can get into the bootloader screen with the information as follows: fastboot mode, product name-Herring, HW Version Rev 34, Bootloader version-D720SPAKE1, Baseband version-D720SPAKE1, Carrier info, SPR, serial number-37308B81276A00EC, Lock State-locked. Then the different options I can choose are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery, power off. If I choose reboot, it takes me back to the mius screen and stays there. If I choose recovery, I get the triangle with the exclamation point. I then hold power and up volume again and I get a screen that says Android system recovery <3e> with reboot system now, apply update from sd card wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I have tried all of these as well with no luck. When I go to apply update from sd card I get matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, root.zip, update.zip and then what looks like apps such as Alarms/, Android/,MIUI?, etc. If I try to select any of the first ones such as matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, I get Install /sdcard... , finding update package..., opening update package..., verifying update package..., E.signature verification failed, Installation aborted. Then it gives me the system recovery options again. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you try ADB fastboot method?
Not sure how to try that
I tried doing the adb, followed all directions and installed and when I go to the command prompt and type in anything, such as, adb reboot bootloader I get, adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
ok I got that working now but when I type adb devices and press enter I get a message saying List of devices attached and then it doesn't show anything and I get the command prompt again saying:c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
also since the phone is stuck in either the miui screen or bootloader I can't get into it to put it in usb debugging mode. I am trying on my own to get this going and am stuck any and all help would be very much appreciated.

I think that means you have a locked bootloader.
And from what you're telling, I believe you have stock recovery.
Also, when you're in fastboot mode, I don't think adb commands apply. Use fastboot commands instead (i.e. fastboot devices).
Search for guides showing you how to install and use fastboot.
I did fastboot as well and the problem I think I am having is it's not recognizing my phone because usb debugging wasn't turned on before it locked up. How would I get it to recognize my phone or download an img to my phone if it is not being recognized. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
You don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode.
You either:
1. Don't have drivers installed.
2. Don't have fastboot installed correctly.
You really need to read a guide or two, through and thoroughly.
Bc it sounds like you have no clues.
Yeah dude. Take a step back and go over what you have installed and where you installed it.Yes, fastboot commands start with fastboot instead of adb. And you're on stock recovery.
Thanks for the answer that I don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode, I wasn't sure of that. I have downloaded and installed my drivers multiple times and when I use the device manager to update drivers it says I have the latest drivers installed already. Whenever I do fastboot commands I will type in fastboot devices and shouldn't my device serial number come up? It just gives me the line c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
And is waiting on me to type a command in. And yes I have been looking at guides all night. I appreciate any help you guys might have and remember we were all noobs at one time.
The zip in this tutorial should help.
It has adb, fastboot, and the drivers needed.
And unlock the bootloader because it is locked.
Finally got it, I had everything downloaded that I needed already, but looking at different forums, etc, it seemed like everyone named it something different. So I just used the one link you gave me and did it exactly the same way and it worked. Thanks so much! and again thanks for your patience.

If you are able to go to recovery(which you should be able to do), download any custom ROM of your choice like PA, CM, SLIM etc.. flash that rom by following the Installation instructions in the thread. YOu should be able to get the phone back to normal. And if you want the stock ROM, then download the stock files and flash it, you might loose custom recovery, then follow the same things you did to get TWRP in the first place.

I would if I could. The problem is I formatted the whole phone which included the internal storage too. My CM Rom is in the internal storage and it's already deleted. I tried to connect my phone to the pc so that I could transfer a rom into it but failed cause my pc won't recognized my phone as the media transfer devices. It's only recognized my phone as fastboot falcon s. I've installed Motorola Device Manger but it's also failed. I also tried to install using adb sideload but I got device not found error and my phone doesn't listed in the device attached after I typed 'adb devices'. For the OTG and memory card reader method I haven't try yet because I don't have any of it.

What does it say when you try
Code:
adb devices
or
when you reboot to bootloader with phone connected and type
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows a device for fastboot devices then follow this to flash back to stock. Make sure you download the right stock firmware for your phone.

It seems like you dont have fastboot files. Follow the same link that i posted in the previous one. It has portable adb & fastboot files. Download that and then follow instructions. You should be able to get to fastboot. Once you are there the job is almost done. Hope it helps

I've followed all the instructions but my phone still not rebooting. When I try to reboot it, it only show me the warning of unlocked bootloader screen, black screen, warning of unlocked bootloader screen then dead android screen. What should I do now?
It means your phone is in fastboot mode and recognised by your PC. Next you'll have to "fastboot flash" the necessary files to install a recovery and a system, and you should be good to go.
Few weeks back I ****ed up soft bricked my phone had kindda same issue when I switch my phone on I get a dead android logo. Gave to the service center in India and got a replacement a new xt1033

Hey, I've done all of the flashing instruction from the xda forum link that you gave me. My problem for now is, why is my phone not rebooting? The only thing that happen after the flashing is my phone only show the 'warning bootloader unlocked' and the dead android with red triangle screen. It won't boot into the stock rom that I've flashed. The stock rom/firmware that I used is correct. Please help me.. I really need to use my phone.

K there's a resolve for this...Provided that you haven't ****ed up your phone by making it hard bricked...
1 - Get a freaking rom and sideload it through TWRP to boot into system...
+ Download a ROM
+ Put it in the same folder as ADB and Fastboot and rename it to something easier that you can type exactly (ex: 1.zip, backup.zip...)
+ Shift + Right Click at a blank field in the window
+ Choose Open Command....
+ On TWRP, go to Advanced => Sideload => Tick the 2 boxes => Swipe to start sideloading
+ Type in adb sideload <yourzipname>.zip on the cmd (on your computer)
+ Wait for the process to finish, then you now have a working phone...
2 - Follow this guide using the proper firmwares that match your original one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219

Your PC will not recognize it as media transfer / storage while you are in bootloader / fastboot mode, its perfectly normal. When you type fastboot devices it should show you a number which means it working as intended. This is an old thread but it shows how to transfer your ROM to sdcard via adb push command. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929

The output of the "fastboot devices" command clearly shows your phone is recognised by your PC. As I said all you need to do now is use the correct "fastboot flash" commands to restore recovery and system. Tutorials can be found in this forum.
Thank you.

Can I still install any recovery(CWM or TWRP) after I have forgotten my password?

My question is: Is there any way that i can install any custom recovery now, when I am locked out of my phone, so I can try Method 7 from this post . I have enabled USB debugging, but for some reason, my device is unauthorized from executing adb commands.
I have Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and have forgotten its password. I have tried Method 2, 5 and 6 from this post, but to no avail.
I tried method 2 and 5 which requires ADB to be installed, but I was not able to access my phone. I have USB debugging enabled and my phone is not rooted. When I tried to run the following code:
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
it showed that my phone is unauthorized and error: device unauthorized This adb server's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Here's the screenshot:
When trying method 6, I had to change the path of ADB driver because the file I downloaded from the post, had its own ADB driver which clashed with my already installed ADB driver, but even after that, it again showed the above error. Here' the screenshot:
Finally I want to try method 7 from the above post, which requires custom recovery to be installed on the phone, is there any way now?
Though it seems now that the I have only one option left and that is to factory reset my phone, but if , there is any other way by which I can bypass my lock screen, please please please inform me.
Of course you can. Just boot your phone into fastboot and do "fastboot flash recovery <recovery image name>.IMG" and you'll flash it. And you can't access the adb because your screen is locked... This is how companies prevent phone hacking
So flash custom recovery, backup the /data , factory reset and after resetting restore the /data backup. And you're good to go. I suggest you using TWRP, because I use it and it never left me hanging Keep me updated.

OK... So first boot into fastboot. When you've done that, connect It to your pc with usb, download fastboot package from somewhere on xda(you'll find it).
Open command prompt "CD" to the directory where your fastboot is located in, put recovery image in the folder where fastboot.exe is and type "fastboot flash recovery <recovery file name>.IMG". I'm gonna update this answer in 2 days, when I get to my pc, so try to do it by these instructions, if something isn't working, comment and we'll resolve the problem. Can unlocking my bootloader somehow brick my phone?
Everything can brick your phone. Updating my lenovo phone with official update hardbricked mine... But yeah, it can.

Bricked OnePlus 7 Pro, no PC

I bricked my phone and I'm unsure about the steps to fix it. I'm also on a mac so it's a little tough to follow most guides on how to unbrick my phone. I think I need to do something with 9.5.11-GM21AAOnePlus7ProOxygen_21.O.14_OTA_014_all_1907281611_7972d376-FASTBOOT's flash-all.bat but I've tried using it to no avail. I don't think I'm using the right commands, can someone help me?
Model: OnePlus 7 Pro 12GB version, build 9.5.11-GM21AA
Problem: Device is stuck in fastboot. Can't access recovery, can't restart phone.
How I messed it up: I rooted my phone using the method on YouTube from the xdadeveloper's channel. I wasn't happy with it so I decided to do a wipe and restart the process. I must have wiped too much and that's how I came to the problem of only being able to access fastboot.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
If Fastboot is detecting your connected device, all you need to do is run the flash-all.bat and wait for the process to complete.

Thanks for your response, I tried that on my mac but I don't know if I did it right. I got my hands on a PC and I tried to run flash-all.bat but it didn't work either. It says that "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I have MSM on my PC and it detects a device but doesn't recognize the status.
I have All-In-One and it recognizes there's a OnePlus 7 Pro in fastboot, but I don't really know where to go from here.

Try to restart into recovery mode from the bootloader to see if you have twrp flashed, If so, the next steps is to flash a Rom and then magisk. It is not bricked, you might have just wiped the wrong partitions. If twrp recovery is not there, then that is your next step on the All-in-one tool. Once you flashed twrp, boot into it, in mount option, mount storage while conectd to PC there you have to move a full ROM into phone storage and flash it from Recovery.

No TWRP, tried to access it multiple times but it keeps bringing me back to fastboot page. How do I go about using the flash-all tool? In the fastboot folder, I tried running flash-all.bat but it says "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I tried using the All-In-One (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ol-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t3930862) tool but it turns out that it doesn't recognize my phone. I had just selected OnePlus 7 Pro. I'm not too familiar with the terms/buttons but all of the ones I tried didn't seem to do anything.
I tried to run the MSM(https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/msm-tool-guac-t3934691) tool but it didn't recognize the phone was a OnePlus 7 Pro.
I'm pretty confused right now and not sure what to do. I feel like I'm close but I just don't know which steps to take.

to recognize fastboot commands in windows, hold shift and do right click on the folder where fastboot or adb files are in. the select something like"open powershell window". or "Open command prompt window" now you can type the fastboot commands from there. That assuming that you have the adb/fastboot files in the computer. if not, google. Minimal adb files and download it or install it

You need to install fastboot and ADB on the PC before running the fastboot ROM
On PC first Install drivers, adb. I use All-In-One tool to Flash Factory Images.

Thanks for your response, I tried that on my mac but I don't know if I did it right. I got my hands on a PC and I tried to run flash-all.bat but it didn't work either. It says that "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Not sure how you managed that cos the adb/fastboot are in the package that @mauronofrio provided. You need to make sure you are running the script in the same folder as adb.exe and fastboot.exe.
Hi everybody,
I was able to fix my phone! I literally just kept trying the same thing over and over again (Flash Factory Image) until it worked. I think I tried it 6-8 times. Right when I was about to give up, a cmd window popped up and started running scripts. I'm extremely happy I was able to fix my phone and thanks to all of you for your suggestions!
Great. Recovering from bricked state is so easy on OP devices.
Good show! The OnePlus has many lives!!
