[Q] front camera not working - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a razr hd from swappa and it seemed to be in great condition. I rooted it but have not installed any ROMs. Whenever I try to use the front camera the phone freezes. Anyone have any experience with this? I didn't test the camera before rooting it since I don't use it that much.

How to install Front cam

Guys I use HTC Explorer/pico... I wanted to know that if a front cam can be installed in our device as it certainly lacks one...and if it can't be installed then can the back camera be used for video calling??
-
From a hardware point of view it would be pretty easy to install a front facing camera. All you would then have to do would be develop some housing (casing) for it. But you would need to create a rom with or add to your current rom, coding that allows the use of the camera. Like a driver.
In short, it's a mission creating a front facing camera. I would suggest updating.
Same issue with my xperia x8 though. I might get a samsung nexus or s3. Also about the back camera thing, you could easily use this for video calling but it would be very inconvenient to video call someone if you could not see them.
Sorry if this is not what you wanted. Please thank me if you appreciate it.
Wow thats in depthv
Yes it would be quite hard installing a front facing camera.
better buy a phone with front cam rather than fixing it on the explorer:angel:

Camera issue, need help

I'm running the new liquid 2.0 and everything is running great so far. I was using my camera and rotated the camera to the front facing one. Now it won't let me switch back. I can't click on the icon. It's pretty much stuck on the front facing one. Any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks

[Q] Replacing the camera on the DROID Razr Maxx HD

I got the DROID Razr Maxx HD in the mail the other day. So far I'm impressed with it coming from a DROID Razr. There is one thing about it that is really bad though, the camera. The camera on my OG DROID Razr is better. I've tried many different camera apps, none seem to fix the problems. When I zoom into a picture, the image gets grainy and loses detail quickly. The camera on the OG DROID Razr preserved more detail than this camera. So I have a crazy idea. I still have my DROID Razr, can I take the camera from that and replace the one in the DROID Maxx HD? If not, is there an alternative to improve the picture quality?

you want to replace the camera itself, or just the app?
the camera itself likely needs some specific code in the software to work. if it is not compatible between the 2 phones it will not work.
im not sure if anyone would be able to give you a positive answer on that, maybe a developer familiar with the code in both phones.
as far as the app, thats going to be trial and error. sometimes you can use other phones system apps, and some times they dont work.
Yes, I want to replace the physical camera within the phone. I'm hoping to swap it out with the original DROID Razr's camera. I can not seem to find any specs on the original Razr's or the Razr HD's camera besides "8MP, 1080 video". However, the camera modules look very similar. I can tell they are using different lenses though. The Razr HD also captures a wider area...but at the expense of taking horrible pictures. If I can't swap the cameras, I'm willing to modify some system files to tweak the camera but I'm not sure where to start.

sorry but i will be of no help with that.
Have you tried different camera apps? I would think this would require opening up your phone and doing some major soldering or other things that could end up borking your phone for good.
Sounds like too much of a hassle to me.
no soldering required, just a connection that pops right out. I say try it, worst case the cam gets fried haha but i doubt it
I took the rzr HD apart , and prolly is the same as the Maxx but like all said, nobody tried that, so you will be the first here
If I try it, I will order a DROID Razr camera sensor from etradesupply. It's only $5. Software-wise, what's the best way to take pictures with this phone's camera?
I have tried a dozen app. I am sticking with stock app and Lenovo super cam app. I find it to be the quickest, sharpest..

I've seen the Lenovo Super Cam suggested in other forums. However it looks very shady and according to a few members, carries viruses. I'm not the guy who typically yells "Virus!" but I'm very protective over installing apps through Unknown Sources.
Also, I've looked at pictures of both phones' camera sensors, judging by the pin-count they seem to be compatible. I'll give it a try by the end of August.
Being cautious is a good thing. Thanks for reporting your findings

Blurry Photos when taken up close

I was trying to use the this barcode scanning application to scan a barcode and for some reason the main camera does not want to focus when anything is only several inches a way.
I thought it might be the app but when I tried it in the stock camera app I noticed that the camera cannot focused on anything close up.
Is anyone else not able to get focused macro shots?
Yes, it's impossible to focus on a object that is close. I don't think it's a problem but the (****ty) way this camera focus. I wonder if any fix regarding this and the slow focus can be done by ROM devs.
Nexus 6 Camera suffers blurry close ups too

As you can see in the above link this guy has the same exact problem with focusing on close object that my Moto Maxx has on both video and still shots.
He RMA'd his phone and the replacement works perfectly fine.
Isn't the camera on the Nexus 6 the same as on the Moto Maxx?
Can anyone else confirm if they have this problem with the Moto Maxx or not?
Thanks
SOLVED!
So I was able to solve this problem by opening up the phone and replacing the rear camera module itself.
I purchased a Droid Turbo XT1254 Camera Module on Ebay for $25.00 shipped.
Took me about 15 min to install using a Droid Turbo Teardown Youtube video as a guide.
Now I can take photos of barcodes, labels, that are clear and about 3 - 4 inches away.
Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
I also solved this issue by replacing the camera as rbalfury suggested but I'm not happy with the performance of the camera. I blame it on the software side since it doesn't allow me to manually focus the damn thing and my lg g2 could take awesome macro shots and could see very fine details with it. This camera focuses automatically and before it finishes focusing you can see for an instant when it's adjusting that it becomes crystal clear but then blurs up the shot a bit which sucks. Need a camera software with manual focus but no luck yet.

Are there any custom roms that offer the original camera yet?

I can't use miui at all, it droves me crazy, using pixel experience is incredible on this phone but the quality 9f the camera is awful, is there a way yet to port the original camera to a custom rom?
You can use ANX Camera white PixelExpierence - although you have to root your phone and not everything works a the moment...
