Problems with Google Goggles and the N5 camera - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried Google Goggles with my Nexus 5.
If I want to take a picture (Barcode, QR-Code, etc.), camera screen changes between dark and bright again and again before I ever touch the screen to shoot or focus.
The resulting picture is always too dark to analyse.
If I open the stock Kitkat camera app simultanesously, the screen is black and all you can see is the blue button. When Goggles is closed, the app works normal.
I was able to try another Nexus 5. Same problem.
Can anyone confirm this (so hopefully Goggles app issue) or is this probably a hardware issue?

Exact same issue here.

Same here

Camera Issues - Is everyone the same?

Just wanted to know if everyone is experiencing the same issues with their cameras.
1. When I open up camera, for a split second the initial photo image displayed is pinkish, then the white balance kicks in which normalises the image colours.
2. When taking photos in certain lighting conditions where theres a white background (such as a white sandy beach), I get a pinkish haze in the middle of the image.
**note** for (1) it must be the white balance, as it only does this when set to automatic. If I set it to a manual setting, its ok. Stupid phone lolz
I have never seen either of those issues...hmm...perhaps you have a bad camera sensor?
Never saw either issue on mine

Seems to only happen when I'm indoors under fluoro lights.
Yeah that happens to me, but I don't see it as much of an issue, because on the computer the images look fine.

Stock Camera APK

Is anyone having problems with the camera app being blacked out when trying to use it? This latest time I experienced this I tried another camera app and it was also all black when I tried to use it, but previously I was able to use the other camera apk while the stock one didn't show anything /:
Just to clarify what I mean by blacked out is that it looks like someone is holding their finger over the lens when trying to take a picture.
Usually a reboot solves the proble, but that's kind of annoying plus my phone tends to resend messages after a reboot for some reason.
I have noticed that the camera doesn't work while media scanner is running. This has happened to me a few times.

Google Goggles crashes on Nexus 5

Trying to establish whether this is a problem with my phone, or an incompatibility with the app but when I load Goggles it works for a second before completely locking up the phone.
The camera works using the camera app, Instagram, Paper Camera so I don't think there's a problem with that?
Phone is rooted.

It didn't crash on my phone, however when using it without flash the image brightness (not the screen) keeps flickering annoyingly.
And after I close Goggles, the stock camera app no longer works (black screen) unless I force stop Goggles.
Edit:
Basically like this:

I've initially missed that thread.

Is burst mode broken?

Hi everyone,
I'm facing an issue with burst shooting.
When I burst-shoot photos in mid to low light conditions using the HTC stock camera app, I can see that most of the photos (except the first 3-5 photos) are filled with colorful noise all over them...
I'm using an EMEA HTC U11 128GB model with 1.27.401.5 software and camera app v9.20.9740975.
Am I the only one that facing this issue?
Please refer to the attachments to see the problem yourself.
Left image is the third burst-shot and looks OK.
Right image is the fifth burst-shot and looks very grainy (all the burst shots from the 5th and on look like that)
There is nothing wrong with it. Burst mode does not have the noise reduction algorithms which are available in hdr auto mode. Therefore these shots are perfectly normal in bad light conditions. Mine does the same.

When I capture burst shots on the ported google camera app, all photos are looking just fine without all that densed noise so I think you are wrong. You can try it yourself.
Something is very wrong with this feature on stock camera app on my side, I'm sure that it doesn't need to look like that at all.
I see a clear difference between the 3 to 5 first shots and all the rest, it's like they were taken by a different sensor!
I thought you were asking if your phone has a problem or not, so I answered according to what I understood.
It's how the stock camera app is. It needs some updates to fix these issues, there is nothing we can do about it except waiting.
I do believe that google camera is superior to stock app with good settings in almost every condition therefore I use google camera.

Thanks for the clarification.
Meanwhile I will continue to use burst captures only on Google Camera app.
Hope that HTC knows about this issue and trying to fix this as we speak. :fingers-crossed:

Camera Issues

I have the Verizon Pixel 3, and ever since I updated to the November 5 version I have had nothing but trouble with my camera. The native camera app works great, but if I attempt to use any other app on the device that accesses the camera, I get nothing but a black screen. Apps I have on my device that I've tested include
- Messenger
- Snapchat
- Ibotta
- QR Scanner
Once one of the apps attempt to use the camera, the native camera app only gives me a black screen until I restart the device. Once restarted, the native app will work until another app attempts to use the camera, and then it's right back to the black screen.
Has anybody else had this issue yet? I ran across another post where a different user had the same issue, and they had reset their device a couple of times to no resolution.
On latest (nov 5th update) on pixel 3. Camera works fine in Textra for me.... you shouldn't need QR Scanner anymore with the google camera, just hit the lens button, or enable lens all the time in camera settings.
I'm now having this same issue as of a few hours ago. Nothing changed as far as I can tell but any app other than the default camera app trying to access the camera locks the entire thing up.
