*Google Now* always listening - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I know that if you are in Google Now or in any home screen, *Google Now* will respond to you. I think that's really sweet, but I hate the stock launcher. However I found out that the feature won't work in a third-party launcher. I guess it kind of makes sense, Android can't know if you are on the home screen if you aren't in their launcher. My question is this: is this something that the chefs can work around? Or is this permanent? Also do we yet know if it will be possible to set up *Google Now* to work like it does in stock, where it is always your left-most screen?

[Q] Customizing revolution 4g rom

First, I must preface this by apologizing about this post not being in a more relevant forum topic. I am barred from posting in the dev section until I reach 8 posts. I also have checked relevant links and tried searching about this, but if I failed at my searches, again I apologize.
So I flashed the Revolution 4g rom and really like it. The only thing I would like to change about it is the launcher/ADW (not sure what to call the bar with the phone button and such) to that of the no-sense rom. However, I would like to keep all the HTC sense widgets and apps. Is there a way to replace that feature using the rom cleaner found on that post? Is there a different solution to this problem?
Have you tried Launcher Pro? DL/install it and see if it does what you're wanting. If it doesn't, no harm no foul, just uninstall.
Tx
I just did, and it doesn't accomplish what I would like it to do. I'm looking for something that will replace the default launcher on the HTC home. This gives me an option and after choosing the launcherpro, I'm left without the widget from the HTC sense. Thank you for the suggestion and quick reply, though.

You mean they're gone, or they weren't where they were with the old launcher? You'll have to re-setup all your screens with the new launcher, but I thin sense widgets should still work.
What I meant was the HTC widgets aren't gone, I just can't choose them with launcherpro and I can't afford to pay for the plus version to unlock the launcherpro widgets.

[App Request] Launcher settings converter

Hi there,
first off, sorry if this is in the right forum. Please move it to the right one in that case.
Then:
I originally posted this in the Apex Launcher thread but some users pointed out (correctly) that this is probably an idea that should deserve its own app and is not limited to Apex alone. Here goes:
Android has the great ability that you can change launchers quite freely, allowing you to change the look and feel of the main GUI with a few clicks. Unfortunately, every launcher has a different way to store their settings and when you switch to a new one, you will lose the settings from the old one. I personally switched from GO Launcher EX to Nova Launcher when I upgraded my Desire to ICS but would now like to switch to Apex - but after taking all the time and effort to recreate half a dozen of folders with 50+ apps sorted, I don't feel like doing that again.
My idea would thus be to have an app that can detect a backup you made with one launcher (almost all of them allow backups these days) and convert it to the backup-format of another launcher, allowing the user to import it into the new launcher. That way stuff like folders and settings could be transferred, allowing people to switch launchers more easily.
I'm not a dev, so I have no idea whether this is possible and if so, how hard it would be to develop it, but I wanted to request it here in case someone might be able to do it.
TIA
SoWhy
Nova-Launcher already does it!
Even if this is an older request: I would also appreciate, if there would be an app which can do that. And: In general this conversion is for sure possible. The Nova-Launcher already has this function of transferring already implemented. But it would be better, if there's an independant app for this, 'cause at the moment it's only "one way", from another launcher to Nova, but not the other way round.

Buzz launcher

hey people. I just made this thread to let you all know about buzz launcher which I accidentally found on market and I think is brilliant. Basically it lets you upload your homescreen so that other people can directly download it and transform their phone like yours and of course you can also download other people's homescreens as well. Everything is included even the widgets they use and icon packs and all, as direct links to the market apps either from the download homescreen section or directly from the downloaded homescreen by pressing on the faint (non downloaded) widgets and being directed to the market for dl. Anyway give it a try and let me know. Will upload some homescreens when I am home. It is amazing what you can do with a couple of clicks...
i've seen this launcher and it's pretty interesting, some say it lags but im guessing it depends on the type of phone you have....
I may try it out myself later
nice find. more of a homescreen sharing app than a launcher, it really rocks. And the buzz widget is really flexible. You can almost make anything you want out of it be it clock, weather widget or many other thing and any combo...

is there anyway to get rid of google search bar???

i HATE the fact that i cant get rid of the google search bar.. or even move it!! i just wish i could move it down under my clock widget.. i kno that if i use a diff launcher that gets rid of it.. is there any other way to move or get rid of it??? i really like the stock launcher and would love to be able to keep it but hate the google search bar! is there a rom that has options for moving it or something?? man i would do a headspin if i could keel the stock launch and move that bar

You'd rather change a rom than change the launcher? 0_0
You can't remove it with on GEL. You can use Nova Launcher to remove it and lose the "Ok Google" feature.
Or maybe someday someone will make a Xposed module for it. I THINK GravityBox has the option, but I'm really not sure.
As you're probably aware the launcher is closed source. I have asked some of the developers this question and the response has been in each case that there are much bigger fish to fry for now. I'm hopeful that someone may eventually take a crack at it. Agree about the search bar. It's a mistake to fix it when so many have very specific launcher layout schemes they use. An incredible blunder fixing it on every single screen. I can't imagine who thought it would be a good idea to waste a row on EVERY screen.
For me it's a deal beaker but not the only one. I also hate that home is fixed to the left without making the screen indicator clickable as touch wiz did. For those not familiar the little dots that show what screen you are at can be made into a shortcut to take you to that screen. This gives you one touch access to any screen removing the penalty of having home fixed on one side.
Just use Nova. Problem solved.

[Q] Setting up fresh install

Hello, I'll try to keep it short.
I have a nexus 5 since mid-august and the first thing I did was install CM11 using the installer.
There was a guy that helped me set it up back then, and I have no way of contacting him now. This is where you come in
I know I had the nova launcher installed but I also had the google now screen (when you swipe to the right). Also you could bring down the notification panel by swiping down in the middle of the screen.
Do any of you know how I can get the same functionality back? I've been searching the past hour but there doesn't seem to be a way to add the google now cards to the nova launcher even though I'm pretty sure that's what I had before I installed the new ROM.
Chances are you had either https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher&hl=en or or Cyanogenmods CM Home launcher instead. I think both of those support what you're asking about.
Google now, no idea about but ye Nova has a gestures menu where you can set gestures to actions.
Nope, I had the nova launcher for sure, and now if I think about it I may have only had the google cards (some sort of widget), not the entire google now "page" .
Edit: Nevemind .. I just found the google now widget in the widget menu.
