Anyone know or have links. The AdAway I tried doesn't work. Not sure about others. Thanks.
I downloaded the f droid store to get adaway. I'm sure there's a different way but that worked for me.

I just installed AdAway and had the "Copy failed" error where it couldn't apply the hosts file properly. I went into supersu, removed AdAway, and went back in the AdAway app. It works properly after that.
Now, I assume that's what your issue was as well since you didn't provide any detail whatsoever lol
This one worked for me:

Anyone having problems with the official Hulu app force closing? I'm Running das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4, and i can browse within the app just fine, but when a video begins to load, it force closes on me.
I was having that problem on 3g, working fine on wifi though.
I'm having there same problem, running bamf 3.0rc5 on 4g
glad i'm not the only one. Now that the app's out, hopefully the devs can tweak it to work on rooted ROMs
I read that HULU+ actually detects rooted devices and refuses to run on them. The crashes are on purpose.
Well that sucks. Looks like I have to cancel my hulu plus sub now
I've been able to watch the free files fine with np. I'm stock rooted on mr2.

no go for me, FC too. I think it has to do with ROMs more so than being rooted. CM7 and BAMF have issues but rooted stock ROMS do ok.
Also the alterations that we had to do to get netflix to work might be causing issues too
This needs to be illegal to check for customizations like rooting. None of their phucking business. Kuntz.

Its because we are blocking ad and modifying the hosts file.
you need to have adfree installed and hit revert to repair the hosts file.

Yeah, it will do that on normal hulu as well if you block ads.

That's the best solution!
Neither work for me. I am S-OFF and perm rooted.
Matt
S-Off, Perm Root, SuperUser updated, BusyBox latest version.
AdFree still doesn't work for me, Angry Birds and other apps still show admob ads.
Check out the recent reviews for Adfree..they did something really shady to the app by switching to a yet-unusable payware model, but in the interim, the app forces you to update to a new version, which basically leaves your hosts file untouched.
I've attached an adfree hosts file from another rom, that I've using successfully on my N1, a MT4G, and on a Sensation.
To use it:
Download the attached hosts.zip
Open Root Explorer
Extract the hosts.zip file
Copy the extracted hosts file
Navigate to \system\etc
Mount the folder as R/W
Delete the existing hosts file
Paste the copied hosts file into the etc directory
Mount the folder back as R/O
After a restart, you should be in good shape!

Adaway worked for me, but in the Android Market version of regular Angry Birds, ads still show up. Maybe Roxio is just smarter and doing something else for ads.

Hmm thats the only Version of Angry Birds i dont have, cause the rights of this App is a brashness. There are no Ads in AB Seasons and Rio and also in other Apps like Astro or Grindr.
Root is required for this application. Thanks to DesignGears & Chainfire for putting in the work for root to be on our phones.
Please try method 1 and 2 before posting that it doesn't work. Let me know which one worked for you in the comments.

Method 1 :
Download FDroid from this link - https://f-droid.org/FDroid.apk
Open FDroid and download AdAway.
Some have reported that this AdAway will install the host file without any issues.

Method 2 :
Download AdAway here - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877490004670
(All credit for the link goes to mrRobinson)
After you have installed and opened the app -
Click "Download files and apply ad blocking"
The app is going to crash, don't worry!
Re-open the application and click "Download files and apply ad blocking" again
This time it will give you a pop up saying "Copying of host file failed", once again don't worry!
Now click the refresh button in the top right, and now for the last time click "Download files and apply ad blocking"
You will now be told that it was successful and to restart.
This is how I got it to work, I apologize if it does not work on your device.
Please click the thanks button if this worked for you.

I tried to get the the app from that website but they want you to download it through a store. And I don't know about others but it hangs on downloading icons or something. So the only way I got the app was from mrRobinson post. According to him its the same app, but he just compiled it from the source from the Devs website.
does this nix the youtube apps? (pre-rolls)

I just tested it for you and no. I don't know of a way to that ether. I tried the youtube app and the mobile, they both had a ad on the same video that I tested.
Well yea but the stores legit no worries there

I just installed it normally with no problems. Never even had a crash the first time.
I'm not rooted (yet), but all of my rooted device AdAway just works. So I really don't see any reason for the AdAway NOT to work if your phone is rooted. Unless I'm missing something here...

This was just my experience with it. I have used adaway on other devices and it just installed with no problem. I posted this because I had seen some other people were having issues with it, so I was just letting people know how I got it to work.

I downloaded my AdAway from f-Droid, but I've seen the same crash behavior.
After the crash, the download and apply worked on the first try.
(The first time, I had to flash back to stock and re-root. The second time applying AdAway blocking took a couple of tries before it went through (6 more specifically))
you can try adaway 2.3 official
or
AdAway-release_Build-10.09.13
the new release is working like a charm

Mine also hung on downloading icons....so i went to playstore and seached for busybox...downloaded and installed newest version by jrummy....installed box and then tried the app again and install flawlessly....doesnt mean it will work for everyone but it worked for me...:good::laugh:
I just install it from fdroid. I don't really use a lot of stuff from there as it's mostly in the market, but I do for this one so I don't have to look for updates on a website etc.
i dled it from fdroid also, it didnt work at first, would just hang up on applying the files but i rebooted and it was successful the first try

Thanks for the feedback. I will update the thread to have both methods shortly
I've found supersu leaving dozens of sudaemon's around which sometimes breaks root entirely (until you reboot) or sometimes you can manage to get su to work and then kill apps.
Adaway seems to potentially be a leading cause of this, or maybe it's just the obvious victim, I'm not sure. But I often find it's complaining it could not apply the hosts file, so I get into a shell, find a bunch of stray sudaemon's, kill them, then it's happy again.
I think there's still some tweaking that can be done for su on 4.3.
All I did was install Fdroid, then
Go into to terminal and type this
su
restorecon -R -v /data/data
Then install adaway and run as normal

Use FDroid
Just a quick heads-up. I used FDroid to install AdAway yesterday...no problems, loaded first time and enabled without a hitch. A word to the less experienced Android (Note 3) flashers like myself.
OFF TOPIC Question: What's the best Terminal Emulator to use for someone like me, who wants to learn to use a TE?? Your assistance would be most appreciated.
Thanx...Chief
I know it was removed from the market.. I have the latest adway from F-droid but it doesn't work.. And yes I am rooted.
Is there any Adblockers that are working? Or ways to fix Adaway?

AdAway works fine. You need to either reboot before installing the APK, or clear out all recent apps before hand.
Yup, works fine for me also
Check your Superuser/SuperSU app to make sure you gave it permission, or;
Uninstall the app, reboot and reinstall, or;
Run fix permissions in CWM/TWRP.
Just to chime in here:
I have noticed that Adaway does fail to apply updated Hosts files. If you just keep telling it to update, it will usually work the second or third time. But it does fail for me the first time almost every time. I'm not sure if it's a r/w issue with Kitkat or just some kind of general compatibility issue.
If by "not working" you mean it fails to apply the host file, just keep trying. It should work eventually.
For the life of me I cannot block ads. I've tried adaway magisk modules and manually editing the hosts file. Only way Ive been able to do it is via VPN but I don't want to go that route.
It did work. Then I reset my phone and it now no longer works.
Any ideas?
