[Q] Is auto-brightness in Chrome fixed in 4.4 now ? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In S4 GE on a stock 4.3 with full brightness, whenever I start Chrome browser it adjusts brightness itself. Even though auto-brightness is off.
Nexus 5 on 4.4 doesn't do that anymore.
I assume it's fixed in 4.4 ?

Yeah, when going to the browser I've notice that it stays the same brightness. However, the screen dims a lot, you can obviously tell when it does that. I hate that and believe it or not but is one of the reasons I requested an RMA from Google.

Auto screen brightness

Is anyone else having issues with the auto screen brightness? I'm in bed now with all the lights off and my screen is at it's brightest. As far as I can remember, the screen has never gone dim for me. I have always had to do it manually.

Same problem here.

Mine seems to work. I always thought it worked based on where the bar is set prior to the checkmark.

I use Quick Settings to adjust the brightness. The auto on this phone definitely isn't working correctly.
Mine works just fine. Dim when it's bright around me, bright when it's dark around me.

I feel like mine does change some, but it never seems like it's a really accurate change to the condition... or maybe I just think it does, hmm.

That's backwards. You want the brightness down when it's dark, because less light is needed to see the screen, and up when it's light, because more brightness is needed to see the screen.
I as well have had issues with the auto brightness. It never seems to change. I manually set it, or leverage a widget.
Mine works but it adjusts too frequently. It was annoying to see it going brighter and dimmer every minute or two so I tuned it off and use a widget.
Thanks, Robrecht

Glad to see I'm not crazy and imagining things. Very surprised at how many little quirks HTC let slip by on the thunderbolt.

I have always disliked auto-brightness. At night when I'm reading a book in bed, it is just way too bright at the lowest auto-bright setting. Though it was nice to automatically brighten up when I'm outside. Now days, I just stick an Android power control on the home screen and manage it myself. 0% for when I'm in bed reading books, 30% for normal every day use, 100% for when I'm outside. It seems to help the battery quite a bit too.
Its best to adjust it manually anyways... Just add a widget on your home screen lolz
What's best is not always whats preferred. It's little things like auto not working that make me miss my cyanogen'd droid 1

Keyboard and other elements shadowing normal?

Hi,
My nexus s is new and since day 1 i just use it with 0 brightness.after hours of exploring, i noticed that when i open up the keyboard for more than 10secs and drag down the notification bar the keyboard boxes can still be clearly seen.its like a shadow of the keyboard imprinted in the notifiaction.noticed this in market as well when searching for apps the keyboard shadow can be clearly seen.also more than 5 sec static on your homescreen, after that i drag down i can clearly see the icons shadows in the grey notifocation bar. Is this normal? All of you have this behavior when on 0 brightness?or do i have a weak display?its kind of annoying sometimes.

Its sort of a burn image. The blues fade out and get a yellow haze. You can test this by displaying a blue image for example google image blue and zoom in. Auto brightness and sleeping the ohone when not using will keep the colors rich. I had a vibrant that did the same thing.

Sucks but it cant be fixed without replacing the phone/screen

Autobrightness really bright?

My auto brightness is much brighter than nexus 4 and my friend lg g2. Any one else like this? Nothing wrong with this actually just thinking maybe battery could be better then setting it manually.

I think there is a general consensus that it is generally brighter. Coming from the S4 I can say without a doubt the auto brightness is brighter on the Nexus 5. You can either do it manually or use an app like "Lux" to control it.

[Q] Screen Flicker?

I haven't seen anything else posted, but I wanted to see is anyone is having the same issue as I am.
Basically, I'm getting what I think are row's of pixels flickering in the area of the screen that are gray.
Here is a quick vid trying to capture it. I can't post videos because I have less than 10 post, you are going to have to trust me for now...
I've also used the dead pixel finder app...everything looks good until I change over to a gray screen, if I stare at it, I can see the flicker...
I first noticed it when I flash Franco r10 (which is what I was on in the video). When I flash back to stock kernel or Bricked, it's much better. But now that I know it is there, I can still see it.
Anyone else having this issue? is there a fix or should I just send it back?
If it matters... LG-D820 White, 32gb
I'm guessing I'm alone with this issue and that it is a hardware problem.

I haven't noticed anything on mine, but I haven't flashed anything yet. Did you notice the flicker before you flashed the first time?
No I didn't notice anything until I flashed r10. But now that I'm looking for it, I can see it on stock and bricked ever so slightly.
I could live with it on the stock colors, but if this is hardware, I worry that it is going to get worse and not better over time.

I have the same issue and saw it as soon as I flashed franco kernel. Noticed that if you set brightness to 100% it will slowly stabilize but will still come back when lowing brightness. I called for an RMA, but cannot reproduce it as obviously on stock, so i'm also lost as to what it could be.
What did you end up doing?
On mine, I could see it on Stock colors, just not as bad... I returned mine on rma....
I recommend getting the app called display tester.
I don't have enough post for a proper link.
https:// play.google.com /store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev. displaytester
Look for a bad pixel and go under the banding section for reason for rma.
My new phone didn't have any of the flicker /banding that my old phone did.
Good luck..

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just noticed this not too long ago and didn't want to open a new thread. I noticed it while I was on stock first and thought flashing something might fix it. I've had mine since the beginning of November. Is the best option just to RMA it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
can you use a SlimPort cable or chromecast to mirror the screen to a TV and see if the flicker still happens?
So you'll know if the problem is in GPU or screen?!

Your brightness settings

What do you use for brightness. Auto? Full? 50%? Share!
Full looks best but image burn could be an issue with IPS displays..
Auto I feel like it jumps around too much depending on your lighting situation

Seems as though this thread should be in General Discussion.
At any rate, I usually steer towards Auto Brightness. On my Nexus 5, auto works just fine. Roughly 65% looks good to me and that's where mine usually stays with auto.
Why not add a Poll?
I never use Auto. Currently set to ~50%
Most of the time I'm almost at the minimum (indoors) and use Lux to adjust the brightness to a fixed level when I'm outside.
Can't add a poll :/ idk how to be honest. I tried editing the post on the website. Still nothing.
