Hello, I'm new to the forums and Android in general so apologies for any dumb questions.
I recently bought a HTC Explorer (Pico). Good little phone so far.
I upgraded it to HTC Sense 4.0 Lite Build#8 Update 2 by shekhutanwar
Found here
However I'm trying to change the default clock widget but every time I download a new clock widget from the Google Play store it just puts what appears to be a shortcut on one of the home screens and it doesn't appear in the part where I can select new widgets to move to the home screen (where the default clocks appear).
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Also, I'm wondering about overclocking -
1. I have installed No-Frills CPU Control - but it only goes up to 722mhz. Is there something (preferably free) that I can use to go higher?
2. I'm thinking of putting the Cranium kernel on my phone (I've seen a guy on youtube claim an overclock of 1.3mhz with it installed). If I flash a new kernel will it stop the current OS I have installed working? And what does the Cranium kernel do in terms of overclocking?
Many thanks in advance.

cranium kernel is pll4 overclock kernel which means it is no match for pll2 overclock you are using..I used cranium kernel 1.3mhz once & got 3800mhz benchmark score & now I'm using aries kernel 3.5 & I get 4500+ score @ 767mhz..some picos are weaker than others, mine can go upto 767mhz..there's nothing you can do about it..and yes if you flash an oc kernel over a running rom it may misbehave..always do a clean install before flashing oc kernel.

Im rooted my desire Z yesterday to the gingerbread sense 3.0/3D rom.
im very happy that i have done it and my battery experience is either improved.
but my experience of the reaction time, smooth animation ect. were kindly bad
this is why i want to overclock my processor, but the rom included the new kernel 2.6.35.10 to be exactly. this kernel is not yet overclockable and i wanna know why.
- why make different kernels need different methods of overclocking
- why can it by bad if you overclock it to high.
- can i just flash another kernel to overclock my new gingerbread sense 3.0 rom.

if you overclock the processor of your device you can smoke your DZ
but if you do it with careful it is not bad for your device.
the kernel that you have its a stock kernel (factory kernel) and its not customized for to be over/underclocked... you should flash another kernel for to change CPU speeds...
nornally you can overclock your desire z (good machine mate ) 1.300mhz-1500mhz i not recommend to do overclock upper than 1500-1700... i had read some threads that some people was smoked his device (all with the proccessor QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 1ghz)another think its the freeze problem when you overclock your processor too much.. be careful!
and one important thing.. also its important if you do underclock.... don´t put it under 245mhz more or less because maybe your device don´t has sufficient power to exit of stanby mode
i recommend that ALWAYS do overclock with SETCPU.apk that its available free for XDA MEMBERS its the most safety mode
sorry for my english

Hey,
I've updated my Android Revolution HD ROM yesterday, but since I've done that the O/C Daemon has no values to choose in the dropdown/comboboxes. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there any fix? I don't really know why this happened at all.. I'd like to know the actual settings but I can't even see them, so I don't know anything about my CPU right now.
Thanks for your help.
read the description of the ROM
1. he leaves the kernals stock!!!!!!!! install setcpu if ya just want to downclock a STOCK KERNEL
2. go to the kernel section download a custom kernel that you can OVERCLOCK and then go from there... it will install all necessary files for daemon controller
before the update, on 1.1.7 i think, i had the OC daemon installed as well, and it had all information i needed, i was able to choose between frequencies. so i just don't know why it's gone after the update.

really? keep trying and reflash 1.1.8 until it does work... or get a new phone
New update, but still no values in oc daemon. Could anyone please explain this to me? Even if it's a "silly" question - i dont know. I'm kinda new to all this, it's my first android phone, so excuse me if I don't know everything..
If you are using 1.1.8 it comes with a stocked kernel so there is no ability to over clock. So the fields will be blank. If you want to over clock then flash a custom kernel. They are all listed on Mike's custom kernel section.
If using 2.1 it also is on a stock kernel and OC is not even included with the ROM.

I' am total noob so sorry for asking stupid questions. I have install stock ICS and now I flashed with GLaDOS V2.2 kernel. In my settings or app drawer I don't see some kind of customization. I want to know where and how to adjust the speed of the CPU to work on smaller frequency ( to have better battery ) and to adjust the screen colors ( GLaDOS V2.2 voodoo setings ) ?
Also I have green flickr when unlocking the phone (when I was on stock kernel I didn't have this problem). How to fix this?
Again sorry for asking stupid questions but I really can't find answer with search function on this forum.
P.S. I have Nexus S GT-I9020T on Wind, Stock ICS ROM 4.0.3 and GLaDOS V2.2 kernel.
Well I'm kinda a newb to the nexus but I have the same setup, had to install voodoo from the app market and used setcpu to change cpu. Setcpu is not free.
Can somebody tell me why my rgb settings won't stay.
I was thinking that Voodoo and CPU setup have to be implemented in the standard setup menu of the ROM. I think that on CMD 7 they were implemented inside the setup menu.
Install NSTools from Market.
Thank you for the help.
So I recently rooted my Galaxy Nexus and other than using WidgetLocker I haven't done anything to my phone to take advantage of my root and SU privileges.
This is my first phone that I have done this too so this is all a major learning curve which brings me to my question(s):
(1) Can the phones memory be over locked?
[If yes....] What are the factory Memory Times and what is a safe level to overclock them to - and How?
(2) What is the factory setting for the processor and what is a safe and efficient overclocked setting?
Is the Highest (but again safe and efficient) level a noticeable change?
(3) Overclocking the GPU can reach a maximum setting of 512Mhz (correct?)
What is the default setting for the GPU and is overclocking the GPU to the highest (but "safest" & efficient) level noticeable and worth the trouble?
(4) How do I overclock my phone?
I know that (probably) a kernel replacement is going to be the answer to this question but I was wondering if maybe there is a script I could run in recovery console or terminal, whatever...instead of replacing the entire kernel.
If the kernel is the only way, does this effect future ICS system updates?
What is the best (most stable, most features, best for overclocking) kernel for ICS/GalaxyNexus? - I dont know poop about kernels.
(4a) with the kernel loaded, what apps do I need to snatch from the market to actually overclock my Galaxy Nexus? Try to recommend free ones please =P
(5) Since I am replacing the Kernel, should I dive in 100% and flash a ROM too?
Yes?: what is the best (very very stable, fast, efficient, tweakable) ROM out there for GNexus?
do roms do anything to assist in the overclocking process?
The only reason I would consider a ROM too is because I want Wifi/USB Tethering, Facebook contact syncing, and a few other things.. but only if there are overclocking tools too!
Does flashing a ROM eliminate myself from ICS updates(pretty sure the answer is yes)??
(6) I am currently on a stock kernel and "rom" (if u couldn't tell...) but I am rooted and using Launcher Pro (free version) and I am happy with it but out of the other launchers which is the best (fastest, easy to use, customisable)?
If I flash a custom ROM will a custom launcher be necessary or do they cone with tweaked launchers?
I had other questions but I can't think of it right now, I'll update the OP and thread if I think of anymore. Thank you so much community members for taking time to answer these questions!!!

1200 MHz is stock, 1350-1400 MHz is the highest you can get at the moment, as stability is an issue.

307MHz is stock (underclocked), 387MHz I believe is it's nominal speed, and is billed as 'overclocked' here on XDA.

You need to flash a kernel using CWM Recovery. The kernel will be rewritten every time you flash a new ROM with that ROMs kernel, if you like a specific kernel you can reflash after installing a ROM, I use Franco Kernel which is by far the most popular. Once you flash a custom ROM you won't bother with ICS system updates, custom are bleeding edge with custom tweaks and months and months earlier than OTA releases.

SetCPU is by far the best, don't be a cheapskate shell out the $2 for it. AOKP ROM has one built in, but I still use SetCPU.

Flashing a custom ROM will stop you being able to recieve OTA's, yes. But like I said earlier, they are ****. Custom ROMs are far, far better, so just keep up to date with your ROMs releases and you will always have a ROM with more features that stock OTAs. Most ROMS come with overclocked kernels, most have optimized kernels also, AOKP even has a built in overclocking program in the settings menu, which might appeal to you.

I don't know about other ROMs but AOKP comes with a custom launcher called Nova Launcher, it's essentially the stock launcher with tweaks.
wow thank you so much for your reply... i stumbled upon AOKP on droidforums before reading your reply and am actually about to flash it now - thank you for this very detailed response!!
No problem my man, there is actually a good few stable 1500MHz kernels out now and the GPU can be overclocked to 512MHz if you really want to kill your battery.
How to Remove the CPU Speed limit of 600Mhz on Android 2.2, When I use Andoird 2.3 on this Device [Commtiva Z51], I am able to Clock the CPU at ~800Mhz, I want to do this on Android 2.2, I have a rooted Device.
Maybe a CPU Tuner
I am sure you can find a free one on Google Play you should take a look.

What you are referring to is known as overclocking (oc)...in order to overclock, you need a custom kernel, since (mostly) the stock kernel doesnt support oc
...
[Fyi, Android 2.3 is better than 2.2 in a lot of ways...]

??? What are you trying to tell??
Typed using a small touchscreen
I already have No-frills CPU control from the play store and it works but not over 600Mhz and yes, it is Overclocking (OC), I am running a custom rom, Android 2.3 Roms are available but i am not using those as they drain the battery really fast (even without overclocking). It seams like it is a limitation with Android 2.2 as I have tried other Roms also and they too have the same problem.
No nothing like that...
Oc is kernel dependent...you can make an oc kernel for froyo also...
And if you oc, you will get faster battery drain, and maybe heat issues...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Overclocking
Currently I am using this Rom (Jellybean <link> slinkme.co.cc/jellybean <link> [Added like this as I cant add links now]) , As far as I know this supports overclocking. And also if this kernel does not support Overclocking, Can you give me a OC kernel for Android 2.2.1 (This Rom).
All devices are different, and so is their kernel/rom/etc....you cannot use stuff for my device on yours...
And jellybean is sypposed to be android 4.x/5...and not 2.2.1
Give me a screenshot of the stuff written in about phone...then maybe I can point you to the right direction...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Jellybean is my Rom name, it is Android 2.2.1, I want a Kernel that Supports OC, Do you have one ? Android Jellybean is 4.1.
My Device : http:~//~slinkme.co.cc/mydevice (Remove ~ for the link)
My Rom : http:~//~slinkme.co.cc/jellybean (Remove ~ for the link)
Not very original calling it jelly bean

i think you can use Set CPU. you can find its on google play or appstore.vn/a
the easiest way...ask your rom developer to make a kernel with OC support. you can't compile a kernel for your device and neither me since I don't even know what your device is.

You really should listen to these guys & ease up on the attitude. YOU'RE the one needing help and they really are trying.
What kind of PHONE do you have & ROM are you running? THAT determines the kernel.
Be carefull,
It can damage your device...
