Ditch One S for Nexus 4?

I placed an order for the Nexus 4 16GB on the Play Store last week for around 380 including tax and shipping. It will still take two weeks before it ships, and now I am having second thoughts. I like my One S and am not too impressed by the Nexus 4 specs. Any personal thoughts / opinions?

The only things it has over the one s is double the speed/ram and stock android updated by Google, other than that the one s has a better build quality better camera

I've heard bad things about the N4's battery life. And I am very sceptical to any phone with a back made of glass. That said, it is really cheap for the specs it has. Snapdragon S4 Pro is pretty sexy.

Cannondale, it is only thanks to you that I stuck with the One S. I only had it for 2 days and thought I had bricked it until I found your post on repairing a soft brick.
My opinion is that a LG phone will never have as good a build quality as a HTC phone, also camera is way below HOS spec. I have heard that the battery life is very poor. The only current phone I would possibly swap for is the Galaxy Note 2!
Change your mind and stay with the better phone for now.

I don't know, I see all this praise over the One S, only from the owners of one, I have the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One S unrooted stock (for now) and I always prefer to use my GNex. Bigger and better display makes a big difference for the better and the customizations and support. The HTC One S is more powerful but the freedom of the Nexus is a wonderful thing! I haven't rooted my One S yet cause I can't find a Cincinnati Bell Wireless RUU for it, I guess there isn't one. So when I use my One S I miss all the things I can do with my Nexus. I suppose I can do the same things with the HTC it just doesn't seem easy or practical. The Nexus is a developers phone and if you are a flash addict like me thats what makes Nexus users always go back to Nexus. Once you go Nexus you never go back! Lol. I loved my Nexus S and love my Galaxy Nexus even more and I am sure I would love the Nexus 4, just don't have any reason to give up on my GNex yet. So if you are happy with the development for the HTC One S then I would probably stay, I still need to root mine to find out. From what I have seen, especially since there is no RUU for my network it seems to much of a hassle.

Unfortunately the one S is a highly under rated phone, people right it off straight away before even using one for more than a few minutes (even though pretty much every expert review has spoken very highly of it and the only disadvantages they mention of it, is the screen sharpness and limited storage), you don't get to appreciate just how good it really is in 10-20 minutes of usage. IMO the only phones that are truly better overall are the:
- XL and the X+
- GS 3 and note II
- RAZR HD/MAXX
Plus having virtually no advertisements for the phone means average joes etc. will think that it mustn't be that good and therefore won't care, advertise/market the phone as good as the GS 3 and iphones and people will be interested.
The galaxy nexus display is nice, definitely sharper/clearer than the S, however, IMO it is too dull for SAMOLED panel, the one S is the best when it comes to calibration for colour settings, whites are the best I have seen on a SAMOLED screen, view ability in sunshine is far better from my usage with both. The display isn't "much" bigger due to the on screen buttons, iirc the height is pretty much the same but the galaxy nexus is a bit wider, I would have liked the screen on the S to have been a bit wider.
I was going to get the nexus 4 if HTC didn't get the JB update out by the end of this month, however, after reading reviews and loads of users comments, I will probably stay with the S till the butterfly comes out here. Seems more like a side/down grade overall:
- Mixed opinion on the screen, some say it is as good if not better than the X display, but others say the screen is washed out and poor viewing angles, which I can't stand, personally I prefer SAMOLED screens overall
- camera overall isn't as good
- build/perceived quality and design IMO isn't as good (still a lovely looking phone though)
Main advantages of the nexus 4 over the S:
- battery life once they fix the problems with the drivers/software
- nexus device so will get updates

I didn't get the N4 simply because it's too big. I have a one S with AOKP JB ROM and it works like a charm--fast internet, data, no problems with any apps I've tried. I recognize I'm probably in JB 4.1 for the life of the phone but JB finally realizes the promise of Android and I'll probably be happy with it for the next couple of years. And on eBay the one S, rooted and all, was a third cheaper than the N4.

I had the two phones side by side the other day, and after turning both screens on my decision was made. After being spoiled by the true blacks and rich colors of the one s screen, I couldn't stand the nexus 4 screen.
As far as the specs go, yeah, you get more processing power and ram, but do you need it yet? Does screen size outweigh screen quality? And as far as updates go, if you're rooted, you got 'em.

I had only opened the box one time before, and when I opened it again to give it to him, I almost went back on the deal to keep it. But my resolve was strong

I have a N4 and One S. I haven't had it long enough to give a full review. I've been waiting for the successor to the Galaxy Nexus for a while and was turned of at first to hear it was produced by LG. Now that I have one I don't care who made it. He's some simple observations.
Build quality: Very Good - My phone has no creeks or blemishes it's a perfect example.
Screen: Looks great, I don't have much experience with color accuracy but the colors/brightness/clarity are good.
They did speed binning on the SOC and I also got lucky there and got a "Fast" one. I think it just means the kernel will under-volt it by 50ma vs a "Normal" chip
I flashed CM on both phones as fast as I could so there isn't really any difference in terms user experience.
I don't use any of the new 4.2 features.
While it feels thicker laying the two phones flat on a table side by side they seem the same thickness overall. The One S is slimmer in the middle of course.
HTC One S has USB OTG. The Nexus does not, I'm really bummed about that.
Speed wise they are the same to me.
Turns out the 3g/4g switching that alarmed us when the One S came out is hear to stay. It's just more honest reporting of phones connection. Both my phones drop to H when not pulling down data and switch up to H+ when there is actual through put.
I thought I would like the buttons drawn on the screen but they seem to close. I don't like it now that I have it.
That's it for now. I need a little more time to get a better feel for it.

[Q] Nexus 5 vs ATT HTC One X

Sorry if this is repeated and I'm sure there are several threads like this in other phone forums but I didn't see one specifically relating to this phone. To be honest I'm completely fed up with my HTC One X, and have been for awhile regardless of my customizations and help from some great people on here (hope everyone keeps up their great work!). So when I noticed the Nexus 5 went on sale I jumped on it and got the 32gb version. I can't upgrade my phone through AT&T for another year so it sounded like a good idea to me at the time. I haven't gotten my phone yet, won't leave the warehouse till the 8th it says. I'm curious what others think of this decision and how much of an upgrade this will truly be? I'm feeling a little bit of buyers remorse even though I don't have the phone yet, and I'm really not sure why. I feel like maybe I should have waited the year to upgrade or maybe like I hyped myself up for something that seemed like a good deal to replace something that technically worked still but frustrated me. First world problems I know, again just curious to see how others see the situation.

Personally I think you made a good decision, the Nexus 5 looks like a great device. If I had the spare money at the moment I'd definitely buy one. To compare the two phones might be a bit unfair as the Nexus is hands down a better phone spec-wise. In saying that, the One XL is still a good phone, but it's dated now.

I too have ordered the N5. The HOXL was my first android phone and solidified my permanent departure from apple. I'm due for an upgrade from ATT at the end of this month. I plan to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5s and promptly sell it on ebay to recoup some of the N5 investment.

It seems most of the original xl devs jumped ship a while back. I guess next paycheck I might even look into it. Kinda sucks, even Rohan cleaned out his goo.im.

That's not a bad idea. That's something I might look into, though by the time I have an upgrade there might be something better for me than the Nexus 5 and maybe that's what I'll be selling. Thanks for the idea.

Haha, yep that's my luck too man. I usually keep a fat stack buried somewhere for occasions such as buying a new phone, that way I can actually keep up with these things. I guess it might be time to start digging since we only have 1-2 devs that aren't blind building.

Its an good upgrade for sure...But dunno why I still love my xl ... The build n the camera n grt support makes me utilize it till its hardware ends...

N5 is a flagship type device, that is a year and a half newer than the One X. LG would have to fail pretty hard for it not to be a significant upgrade.
The specs look great, and it looks to be a very solid phone. Although its aesthetic design is a bit plain to me, to the point of being mediocre or even ugly (purely subjective, or course). And some reviews have commented that the camera is a bit disappointing. But otherwise a very solid device for a great (almost unbeatable) price.

Aye pretty sure I'll be getting one. HTC have had their day by giving this phone eol too early.

Yep, I ordered a 32GB Nexus 5 on Sunday. Google says that it will ship in 2-3 weeks. Time to sell the One X.

I thought about it, had the Nexus 5 in the cart, but decided to just hold on to that ~$450 (32gb + tax) for now. The hox is good enough as a phone even with its flaws (multitasking, storage, RAM). I really needed a new tablet, so I bought a 32gb Nexus 7 which has been an awesome supplement to the hox for me.

Anyone thought about waiting till the m8 comes out to see how it stacks up against the nexus 5? I mean honestly comparing the nexus 5 to the HTC one xl is comparing apples with oranges, the one xl is so old. Even comparing the nexus 5 with the one seems a little unfair as the nexus 5 is like the start of the 2014 line of flagship phones.

Well, as expected, nexus 5 is a lot faster. But I must give credit to HTC for their screen on the xl. Looks pretty damn close to the nexus 5, only difference is clarity if you stare at screen from one inch away. But overall, my transition to the nexus 5 has truly been an upgrade in every way.

So I got my phone way earlier than expected, and I have to say it's like night and day. I'm incredibly happy with the phone. No regrets at all! I should think it will last quite awhile as well, that's for sure.

Got my N5 on Tuesday. It's incredibly fast and despite the One XL's still-awesome screen, text is noticeably crisper on the N5. It also feels much more premium than pictures would let on.
The one thing I noticed is that despite the smaller screen, the One XL actually has more usable space due to the N5 having soft buttons eating up space. Certainly it's nothing that will make me return the N5, just something I thought I'd point out for those considering the switch. Otherwise the N5 is a beast and Kit Kat is pretty cool.

how is the camera of nexus 5 compared to HOXL?. if possible post some comparison pictures bro.

I have had an HTC One XL for about a year, then an HTC One for a few months, which I sold and replaced with a Nexus 5. So I have the One XL and the N5 at the moment. There's two things I value most in a smartphone: the screen and the camera.
In my opinion the N5 screen is not as good as the HTC screen: colors seem a little duller and the diagonal viewing angles are downright poor in comparison. Still, it's not a bad screen.
About the camera, well, the N5 takes more detailed shots, that's for sure. I've done a bunch of direct comparisons and the N5 comes out on top when it comes to fine detail. However, and this is a big issue for me, the N5 camera is severely limited by the Android stock camera. You can forget about adjusting parameters, burst mode, disabling autofocus and other useful features the HTC camera provides. With the HTC camera, even though it is not as good as the N5 camera on a technical level, I feel more confident I'll get a good picture, although it depends on what you will be shooting. I take alot of pictures of my dog when we go for long walks, and the N5 camera is slow to capture movement so pictures tend to come out blurry. The HTC camera is not that fast either, but faster still and more suited for this scenario. Oh, and you can forget about taking good pictures during video recording on the N5, all you get is a small 1080p screenshot.
Speed wise, yes, the N5 is a joy to use. It really makes for a fun Android user experience, and loading times are definitely shorter on the N5 (loading web pages for instance).
I like the way the N5 feels in the hand too, much more so than the HTC One XL, despite being a larger phone.
Now here's the thing though, I'm regretting getting rid of my HTC One. To me it has the best of both of these other phones: a beautiful 1080p screen, good specs, and a very solid camera. Yes, I know the low resolution does not have many fans and admittedly when it comes to detail it suffers because of that, but its camera is a joy to use. Snapping pictures is blazingly fast and I hardly ever get blurry motion in my shots, which is perfect for my needs. So in the end, I will return my N5 and probably get a used HTC One to replace it. Or maybe I will wait a few weeks and see if Google does anything about the camera situation on the N5. For now though, my HTC One XL will keep me happy.

I agree the screen isn't as nice, though the 1080p does make text crisper to my eye. And yeah, the camera is frustrating to use compared to the One XL's.

I also find the One XL nicer in the hand and it's easier for me to pick up off a flat surface, both due to its beautiful curves.
I've been testing the N5 on T-Mobile for the last week and am going to port my number over today from AT&T. I'll miss my One XL but can't justify paying AT&T $110/month vs. $70/month for T-Mobile anymore. T-Mobile's LTE coverage is good enough in L.A. for me to jump ship.

If you like the Nexus 5 32GB White, it's shipping pretty quickly (within a couple days), although it says 2-3 weeks.

In my humble opinion, the only other phone to even consider right now besides the Nexus 5 is the Moto X. I have both phones, and still prefer the Moto X over the N5 for a variety of reasons. It really is the ultimate smartphone to me. The N5 is great and has its own merits, don't get me wrong, but the Moto X is the complete package. Motorola absolutely nailed it with that thing. I've also owned the HTC One and GS4, and neither can touch the X.

I'd say the s4 and HTC one are as good or better than the n5. With that said I have an n5 in the mail. I didn't get the s4 or one mainly because the bootloaders are locked and you can't do much with them with out a lot of mickey mouse. If you're into messing with your phone and having fun with it the n5 is hands down the winner. I looked at the s4 for a long time and with all the crap Samsung and the carriers were doing with it I wouldn't get it for the world.

Warning: A lot of writing
Well, we're in a Nexus 5 forum and bias is to be expected. However, I've had a Gnex, Nexus S, and am currently rocking a Galaxy Note 2. A Nexus 5 is due to arrive today for me. I've somewhat been at a cross for the last couple of days. I am pretty sure it's because I keep reading about the defects, faults, and comparisons of the N5 to others.
But, because of this, I am wondering if I've made the right choice. There are two other choices that cannot leave my head and that's the LG G2 and the Moto X. The two are completely different phones and it's almost like the Nexus 5 is the perfect balance between the two. Perfect isn't what I'm looking for, more like an even balance of the two.
On one side, the G2, you have an exceptional device with many internals similar to the Nexus 5 but with specs such as higher batter capacity, higher megapixel camera, IR blaster, larger size screen, etc. However, with the G2 comes the four different variants for US carriers, LG's skin, and minimal developer support. I don't even know if it'll be updated for long. It's what drove me nuts about my Note 2 although I loved its hardware. My problem with the G2 is the unknown support lifetime and small developer community. I consider it due to its superior (especially battery) hardware aspects of it.
Then, you have the Moto X. I can't say there's much of a difference in terms of software development due to locked bootloaders, but the stock software is amazing. No one has any complaints of it. It's either you love it and can't live without it or you simply have no use for the feautures. It's not a bad phone at all. It has lower end specs, but performs CLOSE, but not as fast as a Nexus 5. It has been confirmed to be updating to KitKat. The problem with the Moto X is a much smaller, yet friendly, developer community. There also seems to be a huge lack of accessories for the two devices and that's a bit of a big deal.
It seemed like the Nexus would acquire some features of the Moto X like touchless controls and an extermely efficient battery. But, that wasn't the case. We know because it's a Nexus device that it's going to get support from its userbase for quite some times and that means a lot for me. But it seems like there is just so much wrong with the phone hardware wise that I'm stuck. I don't want a crap battery (coming from Note 2 of course) and a lower-output speaker but I'd really appreciate constant developer support and guaranteed updates.
TL;DR There is no perfect device at the moment. Each device will require you to sacrifice something that you believe is worth sacrificing. You sacrifice accessories, developer community, update lifetime, and other small things for the Moto/G2. But, with each of those devices you gain something a Nexus can't give you with a larger battery and better battery life, smaller or bigger screen size, handy software features (touchless, knock knock, etc.).
Price isn't a factor for me either and I know you can root these devices but that comes with broken features and instability. I'd be great to have a G2 with stable 4.4 and touchless controls. That's the perfect device, IMO.
I know I rambled a bit too much and a little off topic, but I needed to kind of let this out somewhere. Heh. Seriously though, it's an amazing time for us smartphone lovers. You don't lose in either choice you make. We're just picky. Good luck!

Well, you've dithered this long, what's another 2-3w?

For the longest I decided to get the Moto X. I had seen the specs for Nexus 5 and all the leaks but I was set on the X. That was until the Nexus 5 was launched and I made my decision in less than 30 minutes of launch. I'm in love with my Nexus 5 and don't regret my decision at all. Loving the bigger screen but if I could not have gotten the Nexus 5 I definitely would've gotten the Moto X. Love the form fit. Never would have considered the S4 or HTC One. I prefer as close to vanilla android as I can get and the Moto X is pretty amazing. But then again so is the Nexus 5. I would've waited for either.

Everyone loves the HTC One. I think the GS4 is better. Technologically speaking, the GS4 is as good as the Nexus 5. I just prefer the Nexus 5. My girlfriend prefers her GS4 to my N5. They are both great phones. Also, as someone else mentioned, the G2 is supposed to be pretty good, but I haven't given it a try. "Technologically speaking," you will not find a better device than the Note 3. It's huge, though, so you should make sure you're comfortable with it. I would rather have the Nexus 5 for my phone and a Nexus 7 as a tablet rather than a single phablet like the Note 3. Funny thing is, the N5 + the N7 is about the same price as the Note 3.

In my humble opinion, the only other phone to even consider right now besides the Nexus 5 is the Moto X. I have both phones, and still prefer the Moto X over the N5 for a variety of reasons. It really is the ultimate smartphone to me. The N5 is great and has its own merits, don't get me wrong, but the Moto X is the complete package. Motorola absolutely nailed it with that thing. I've also owned the HTC One and GS4, and neither can touch the X.

I personally hated the Moto X. I found it poorly made and laggy. It is definitely not a future-proof device. It's behind the GS4 and HTC One, both of which predate it by 4-5 months. But if you are looking for something future proof, you should either get the Nexus 5, which is guaranteed to receive the latest software updates for at least two years, or the Note 3, which has better hardware than any other phone on the market. Or, if you can wait until April, get the GS5 when it comes out.

got-killed: you make some good points for each phone. But i have to say the things that really led me to get the Nexus 5 (aside from really wanting a new phone and having no upgrades available yet through AT&T) to upgrade from my Galaxy S3 are:
1) Developer support, as you mentioned, but also updates direct from Google, without any software really being locked down and the source always available, which also means BETTER custom ROM's.
2) The screen is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
3) .... did i mention updates directly from Google?
But in all seriousness... yes, the Moto X has some nice features.... but i honestly can't imagine myself using them very often. Touchless operation.... I had enough trouble with Touchwiz waking my phone when i received a text message, and accidentally unlocking the phone through my pocket (which you'd be surprised just how well these screens work through a layer of cotton and denim). Kinda like the whole "Pocket Detect" feature the S3 has, where it'll automatically lock the phone if it seems like you've put the phone in your pocket. Nice... but yea... easier to just hit the button on the side of the phone and not worry about IF it locked.
Not sure what you mean by the Nexus 5 not having an energy efficient battery. The battery in the Nexus 5 is ever so slightly bigger than what's in the Moto X, and also has an ultra-low power bonus CPU core to greatly minimize battery usage while the phone is asleep. I can't say i use my phone heavily... but it's already doing much better than my GS3 ever really did. Can get 14 hours on a charge with nearly an hour of screen time, and still have upwards of 20% battery life left, depending what i was doing with the phone.... and that was only on it's second charge so far.
And yes... the speaker is a fair bit quieter than on that of something like my previous Galaxy S3.... but the side-by-side comparison between the two, it's no contest. I'd MUCH rather have the superior sound quality from the Nexus 5's speaker than what the S3 has. The sound is rather tinny on the S3. Watching a video of Sungha Jung playing his acoustic guitar is not only practically ear-splittingly high pitched on the S3, but the lower tones when he's drumming on the side of the guitar with his wrist while playing are for the most part non-existent from the speaker. The Nexus 5's speaker can output tones a fair bit deeper than the S3's speaker can, and the highs aren't as squeal-y. And i'm sure, either be it from the development community or from Google themselves, we'll probably see some sort of mod to make the volume louder from the N5's speaker.

Picking a phone is very personal choice. Go to the store and play with the models you can, go to an AT&T store to check out the Moto X.
Personally it comes down to this, if I were to buy a phone on a subsidized, or JUMP, plan it would be the Moto X. But being that I usually buy a phone and hold onto it for a couple of years, and I am buying in cash, the nexus made much more sense to me.
While the moto x is great, imho, it isn't future proof. How will it perform in a year or two, what about the developer community. Add to that, you couldn't get the 32 gb model on T-Mobile, and I went with the Nexus 5.
But, I will admit, it is much more comfortable in my hand and pocket than the Nexus 5.
I don't regret my decision at all.

Not because I don't want the phone anymore, but because I realized my real issue here is that I'm just not comfortable with brand new tech that barely hit the market. I've felt a little let-down with my 1st gen Nexus 7 getting slower and slower over time and it's made me a bit gun shy to run out and buy the "next big thing" the moment it hits the market (like I did with my tablet).
I'll spend some time researching all the suggestions posted here before I dive back in. Honestly, the MotoX never even crossed my radar, but it sounds like it has a solid following and deserves some consideration.

As per sig i have 3 devices. .just got the nexus 5 today and its going back tomorrow and I will buy the G2...I should have went with it in the first place but I couldnt resist the white nexus.
Nice device just not for me..if you want a 5 inch device...s4 hands down..or if you want to go a bit bigger G2.
Note 3 is a beast of a device...nuff said there.

Just remember someone like you, I gather, will be stuck with what you get out of the box(OOB). The nexus/playstore editions have the least bloat and get OS updates the quickest... that is IF you decide to go with an Android device, but as I intimated before, you've dithered so long now, why hurry? Go look around some more until you're sure of what you want/need/are comfortable with.
Personally, I REALLY like nexuses for their non-bloatwareness, although when I bought my last phone the nexus 4 there was nothing but the n4 really, the the One and S4 hit the play store, but I decided to go with the n5 again. Maybe next time something different especially if mfgs. like ASUS step into the ring and also limit bloat plus update fairly regularly(I have shield(tegra 4) FYI which has already gotten one OS update so far, I also have the n7(2013 version snapdragon v. your tegra3 2012 version), also most of my desktop and home networking is also ASUS(motherboard(P9X79, I build my own), router(AC66U), monitor))...
Good luck, and I'll just re-iterate you've waited this long, so just don't jump into anything willynilly, but also I'd suggest not terminally procrastinating...

I owned the first generation Nexus 7. Bought it the day it was released. It is the only device I've owned that really did slow down like you said. It is too early to speak for the Nexus 5, but this problem did not exist on the GNex, Nexus 4, Nexus 10, or second generation Nexus 7. I ran into the problem with AOSP based custom ROMs on my GS3, but not with stock TW or TW based custom ROMs. The first generation Nexus 7 just didn't have great hardware, and it showed after lots of use, especially on the 8gb version. I don't think you should have that fear going into the N5, but I think you're being smart holding off until you're sure. I jumped the gun with the Moto X and got just above half of what I paid when I resold the PoS.

I bought a N5 for experiment and I will stick with my Z1. Better camera, quality, waterproofness, better screen even though z1 is bad for yellow tint N5 is worse. With the N5 you simply get what you pay for but I would pay a little more for the premium glass/aluminum finish phones like the One or my Z1

I have had the HTC One and I currently have the Note 3 and the Nexus 5 (My 3rd Nexus over the past few years). I really enjoyed the Note 3 but the size got to me. I have not had the N5 long enough to really form an opinion other than the battery life sucks compared to the Note 3. Also the N5 seems a little less polished than the One or Note. So far the best every day phone was the HTC One that opinion might change with more time with the N5. Just my .02.

So wait.... you're saying if you want a 5" device, you shouldn't even consider the 4.95" Nexus 5 and instead get the 5" GS4... but if you want something a bit bigger, you should get the 5.2" LG G2? Really nitpicking over .25", aren't we?
And i'm really loving the people who insist on constantly pointing out the battery life of the Nexus 5 sucks in comparison to *insert phone here*.... especially when that phone is the Note 3. Yes, the Note 3's screen is nearly an inch larger than the Nexus 5's.... but the battery is also 39% larger. That's like somehow expecting a V6 Jeep Cherokee to perform just as well as a V8.
Don't get why everyone's saying the battery is crap, anyway. I don't think it's THAT bad... and i'm coming from a Galaxy S3.... where it seemed if you did anything more than some texting and web browsing, you would basically be lucky to make it through an 8-hour work day and still have a decent amount of battery life left. first two days with the N5, and i've gone 14 hours with similar usage as i had on my GS3, and still had 20-40% battery life remaining.

Anyone upgrade/side-grade from the HTC One?

After weeks of "should i, shouldn't i" i finally bit the bullet and bought a nexus 5 (haven't received it yet). I'm coming from an HTC one, which I also prematurely upgraded from the galaxy note 2 (so this is my second phone off-contract, and 3 phone in the last year [ i think i have a problem ])
anyway, i'm suddenly getting buyers remorse. I know the speakers are going to be a downgrade. I watch a lot of videos on my phone, and i'll probably feel the difference. I am looking forward to wireless charging, and hopefully, better signals though.
anyone else upgrade/sidegrade from the HTC one? How's your experience so far with the nexus 5. If anyone can just hold my hands and tell me it's gonna be ok, that would be awesome :laugh:

I had the HTC One, got rid of that for the GS4 (not the best decision) and got rid of that for the Moto X. Now I have both the X and the N5 and while I like the X better than the N5, I definitely like the N5 better than the One. The One was neat but I hated the size to screen ratio, and really didn't like the aluminum build. It felt too fragile to me. The N5 feels pretty damn fragile too but not as much as the One. I also am not a fan of Sense and after getting the X and now the N5, I'll never go back to a phone with a skinned OS again.

I have an HTC One, and you will notice a big difference with the speakers. BUT what you will gain is lightning-fast response, and a studder-free interface. It is the fastest, and smoothest phone I have ever used (look at my sig... I've had plenty of variety). Try it out though, it may not be for you. If you are heavily invested in BlinkFeed, and HTC services, it may take a while to convert fully, but it is not a bad device by any means.
Just note... the signal is displayed differently on the One than stock Android. A 6 bar-indicator, down to a 4 bar-indicator will APPEAR that the signal is weaker, but in reality it will be the same, or stronger that what you aesthetically see on the One. I haven't had any issues with service, reception, or speed at all with the Nexus.

I actually like the one's aluminum build, but another reason I'm switching is because I scratched the back a tiny tiny bit. And it was driving me crazy (ocd and stuff)
I got the diztronic case for it, which I really liked, and I know basically feels like the nexus 5. This sorta pushed me into this direction.

I "side-graded" from a (Sprint) HTC One to a N5, and...I mean, I don't regret it at all but I do kinda miss the front facing speakers and the wide angle lenses on the cameras. I DON'T miss the capacitive buttons and the GPS/LTE issues with CyanogenMod roms. It's gonna be OK man, lol, especially when the development really gets going.

N4 to HTC One to N5 for me. Each was an improvement. The N5 is just silly fast and other than the speakers on the One, I don't find anything on the N5 that would make me go back to the One. One is a good phone, but the N5 is excellent.

I went from GS3 > HTC One > Note 3
I was in two minds over the Note and the N5, I miss the One an awful lot in all honesty, I was running MoDaCo ROM on it and used GPE a lot more than Sense. The build quality on the One is great and the sound of course is excellent.
I have the Note 3 now, but I am still tempted by the N5 - purely cause it looks lovely more than anything, I am happy with the Note but I tend to change my phone on a whim (a very very very brief stint with BB also) - Had some hands on time with the N5 and I gotta admit it's made me think about it a lot more...

I went from S3>Note 2>iPhone5 for 10 hours to trade for HTC One>Nexus 4>Nexus 5 and the development for the Nexus devices is second to none. This new Nexus 5 is absolutely ultra smooth and super fast. Only problem I have with Nexus 5 right now is Hangouts as SMS because I can't even receive MMS messages or emoticons. I know there is other messaging apps but I don't want to have multiple messaging apps. I'm going to stick with Nexus devices myself from here on and I sure hope a fix for the MMS issue is fixed soon. My 2 cents

Lol how much money have you lost in the process? I lost 200 dollars from note 2 to HTC one (less 100 thanks to a rebate with HTC).
I'm going to lose another 200 when I sell my HTC one for ~250. Luckily, there was a 150 cashback on sign up with discover card (thanks slickdeals).
So all in all, this journey has cost me 150 and whatever accessories I bought for each phone. I guess its not to bad
This is a bad habit I intend to end.
I just pray the HTC one 2014 does not have wireless charging.

Only deal where I know for a fact I lost money was trading my galaxy s4 for the LG Optimus G pro. Good deal at the time I thought. But when it came time to try to sell it. No one wanted to buy it. Seriously I had it on eBay and craigslist and no one was biting until finally some guy offered me 300 and I let it go for that. This was like 3 weeks after it had came out also. I wanted to love it but the speaker volume on that phone was atrocious. Beyond awful.

I have both N5 & HTC One GPe, both bought on their release day. So far, I'm keeping N5 as my daily driver, aside from audio, which is a big step down from One's Beat boom sound, almost everything else seems a little better with N5. Still can't decide on display quality, HTC One has colder whites, colors pop more but N5 is actually better at rendering skin tones. And I definitely like N5's screen ratio better, text flows/wraps better when screen is a bit wider. As for build quality, I love the craftsmanship of my HTC One (absolutely no cosmetic flaws), but N5 feeds surprisingly good in hands, the feather weight doesn't feel cheap at all and is actually more comfortable to hold than the One.

Awesome. After a surprising 2 day wait, I got my nexus 5. Speakers are acceptable. Blazing fast... Even compared to HTC one.
Sadly, seems I lost the lottery and mine has 4 dead pixels. Off to RMA queue.

Just curious to see how the nexus 5 has done now that it's been out for awhile. I bought a moto x a while back and it's nice and all but I've got the itch to get something else and is hard to pass up the value of the nexus 5. I owned the nexus 4 prior to the x and I loved it (also loved the amount of Dev support). So I guess as the title asks... Would you buy it all over again? Any problems you've encountered in the time you've spent with the device? I want to ask about battery life but I know that's pretty subjective and also completely user dependent so I guess that's only a major concern if anyone has seen drastic problems.

Best device I've owned! Very developmental on XDA! Even popular on eBay!

The customisability and knowing that I get updates before 99.99% of the rest of the world always makes me feel good .
I love how stock everything is compared to Samsung's "crapwiz".
Battery life is amazing and it feels like a premium device... Behaves like one and... Is one!
Sure it comes with minor defects (all Nexus 5's do), but the only regret I have is not buying the 32GB version.
I miss having expandable storage, just because I like having space (have never needed to make space... Never will either , just a weird need of mine).
Android is the future... Open-Source = Endless possibilities.
I'll never want anything else!

Do you mind elaborating on the minor defects? Its good to hear someone isn't unhappy about the battery life.

The battery life is the biggest complaint for me, seems way Underpowered

I'd definitely purchase the N5 again. Usually I go from phone to phone but the N5 is the first phone that I've kept for so long. I've owned this phone since February and to me that's a long time to own a phone compared to what I usually do (buy/trade for every phone that comes out).
With this phone I haven't felt jealous of my girlfriends Galaxy S5 or of the G3, or even the M8. When I had the N4 I felt a bit like I was missing something but the N5 definitely does the job.

The m8 is definitely a premium phone at a premium price and I would of definitely jumped at it but decided not to for 2 reasons. I don't understand the 4 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front shooter concept. I also dislike how tall the phone is. I think the bezels could of been a bit more slim but whatever.

Well, "megapixels" just specifies the amount of pixels in the taken pictures, doesn't necessarily define the actual quality. My Xperia Arc S (released 2011 lol) has an 8mp camera and it obviously takes worse pictures than my Nexus 5. I played around with an M8 before and the picture quality is actually pretty good.

If I could go back in time and buy one again I would. I wouldn't buy another one now though

Lol sorry, just wanted to be clear... Its age somewhat makes me want to move onto something else. Some other the new CPUs "seem" to have better power management in a lower power state. Plus the M8s build / feel-in-hand-quality are reeeeaaally tempting but of course the price reflects that. Buying off-contract makes that hard to stomach. The update cycle seems like a toss up- HTC seems to be better lately about updates and the nexus 5 is quite a ways into its 18mo update life cycle.

I would definitely buy it all over again. You can do pretty much anything you want with the phone; Unlocking the bootloader or rooting the phone is the easiest process compared to every other phone I've had. I've had an HTC Wildfire S (not great but it was the first device I rooted .. pita), an iPhone (which wasn't so bad, but it lacked the customization i wanted), a Galaxy S4 (a great phone if you can put up with Touchwiz and slow updates and etc. Of course you can get the Dev edition if you feel like paying an extra 300-400 dollars for a better battery and a removable sd card compared to the Nexus 5, which isn't worth it), a Moto X (no complaints other than it felt too small), and now a Nexus 5 (best phone ever).
To be completely honest, I would buy it three times over just because I don't like having what everyone else has. Everyone I see with a smartphone either has an iPhone or a Galaxy. I've never really had anyone ask me about my phone, but I've never seen anyone else in my area with a Nexus 5. I'm sure someone has one, but I've not seen one yet
EDIT: Oh yeah and getting the updates first with no bs. Of course that doesn't really matter to me because I run Paranoid Android, but just the fact that we get that is awesome.

Yeah the updates are the icing on the cake. Ease of use (as far as gaining root) is also a REALLY big deal for me. Took me FOREVER to finally build up the courage to root my nexus 4 when I had it. Im not your average end user, but I'm not the MOST tech savvy person on the planet that's for sure. The process is so simple to me now but I have nothing to compare it to (Samsung HTC or other devices)

I'm not quite sure. The HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5 each have their draws to me...

My biggest complaint about the phone is the audio quality... The speaker is actually not terrible but the headphone output is very poor. Even my old Galaxy Nexus sounds better with my headphones. If I were buying it today, I'd probably get the M8. But the lack of an easy root would be a pain, primarily for tethering.

Well, "megapixels" just specifies the amount of pixels in the taken pictures, doesn't necessarily define the actual quality. My Xperia Arc S (released 2011 lol) has an 8mp camera and it obviously takes worse pictures than my Nexus 5. I played around with an M8 before and the picture quality is actually pretty good.

I am very aware of what megapixels bring to the table, but what happens when you want to blow up that tiny 4 megapixel picture and print it on a larger scale for display?
HTC downgraded the pixels because they claimed most people only take pics to upload to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. I believe they are right about what majority use the camera for but what about those like myself that require higher resolution?
