Hey all! I was wondering if a feature from the LG G2 could be brought over to this phone because it is based off of it. The G2 has a feature where, while the screen is off, you could tap twice on the screen and it would wake it. I'm not sure what system resources would be necessary to have this feature work on this phone, but I can't seem to find anything else on it. Does anyone have any knowledge of how it works?
That would be nice to know, i join my voice to urs.
If Google doesn't bring it to us natively you can be rest assured there will be custom kernels to replicate such a function.
i believe someone already posted that this can be done by simply being rooted with an app. the app allows custom gestures such as swipe or tap to wake.

tried looking around in the settings, this website, and all over google but can't find a way to do this. maybe i'm just using the wrong description, but I'm talking about the list of apps when you hit the 3rd touch button on the bottom. you swipe an app away to remove it from the background...but there doesn't seem to be a way to clear all of them with one button press or motion.
Probably a tweak or app for something like that. I know nothing about android yet, but hoping for this as well. Had a jailbreak tweak for this on iPhone. Kinda odd that devices don't have this feature built in

There is a great option for that in the xposed module but unfortunaly it is not yet updated for 4.4 but when it is try Gravitybox for Xposed.
Wondering if anyone knew a way to add other functions to the stock Google Now shortcut (swipe up from home button)??
I've searched and found similar threads(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799208), but none were answering my specific question.
I've also looked into LMT and the pie feature. I just don't like the way the pie looks. It's too bulky and doesn't have that OEM look/feel to it.
What I want is to go from this:

I whipped this up on photoshop real quick just to give you guys an idea of what I'm looking for. Let me know if anyone has any insight on this or any recomendations.

Well, first off what you're referring to is called Quick Launch. And there are ROMs out there that have Quick Launch built in. I don't know of any that have those specific functions like the Settings toggle or Menu toggle. That said, it's definitely possible to add it in. The question is though, will developers?
I'll give you my opinion. I don't feel that the Settings toggle, back button, or Menu button are necessary there because they are right under it. It wouldn't make sense really. The point if those buttons are for quick access to applications or other functions such as Screen Off, take a Screenshot, toggle Torch, etc.
You don't have to agree with my opinion at all and can request developers to add this feature.

Thanks! I didn't know that was called Quick Launch. I'll look around again to try and find some more information on it.
As far as the soft keys underneath, I'm using a Nexus 5 and it has the back button (left), home (middle), and recent apps (right) on my translucent nav bar (as seen in pictures). Not sure what Settings toggle, back button, or Menu button underneath you were talking about, but I do agree with you that they would be redundant to have if they are also available below the Quick Launch. Not sure if you were thinking of another phone, maybe you can clarify for me.
As far as installing a ROM, I'm not trying to do that. Did it in the past but never found one I wanted to stick with. I really like the KitKat stock ROM but it's still missing a few things. So I have the xposed framework installed and am just trying to find a module that will do what I'm looking for.
Thanks again for the help.
Nevermind on this thread. I just found this module:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554049
GravityBox has these features(among many others):
--- Navigation bar tweaks including cursor control keys
--- Navigation bar ring targets
I think this is what I was looking for. I'm going to install the module tomorrow and see if it solves my problem.
Hi friends i have had the phone for around 3 weeks now and it just amazing with sense and its features. However, i was wondering if there are any apps that make this device even more fun to use. I currently have: power amp, stumbleUpon, Flesky keyboard. Please recomment some apps that may be unique and practical.
Please note that i am not rooted, so please recommend apps that work only with non rooted m8. Thanks.
If you are not rooted, and therefore not inclined to delve into the more technical aspects of the device, the recommended apps you seek would be those that suit your lifestyle.
This forum, predominantly, is for exploring mods, enhancements, themes, etc., many of which require a rooted phone and S-off. Of course, you might find an errant thread on the "best calendar" or something like that, but I doubt you well get responses of the type you are looking for with this question.
At minimum, I would go to the themes section.

Another alternative IR app that works with our device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271113&page=60
All in one gestures. As you know you can tap/swipe to wake your phone, this app lets you set custom gestures. I have it set up for a double tap on the status bar (top right of screen) to turn the screen off, so you dont ever need to wake/sleep with the power button again!

I use this app for lock the screen, volume up & down and many more.
Since we're talking swipe control apps I use Screen Off. It makes it so when you swipe up on the Home button it turns off the screen. It also adds some neat screen off annimations. Never touch you power button again!

And, I'll ask a Moderator to move this to Q&A. ?
I'm writing this guide to help V20 users get the most out of their new phone immediately. I'll update the OP and welcome replies with other tips or tricks that I'll be happy to include as well.
1) Change the theme
This is a pretty easy one and changes the stock LG white setup to what I think is a better black setup. Perhaps they'll have more options soon. It looks more "tech" and if you're reading this on XDA I presume this is more of your flavor as well.
Goto Settings> Display> Theme> Choose Black Bold
2) Enable Ok Google detection even when display is off
Why? Alternate way to wake, unlock, and launch apps even when phone display is off. I find this much more handy than even using the fingerprint sensor
Goto the Google app>Open menu (upper left)>Settings>Voice>"Ok Google" detection>Always on>Trusted voice. Make sure you train the "Ok Google' Voice model
3) Add more fingerprints to unlock and security
Why? You'll find out when you switch hands (to film a video of the device perhaps) and can't unlock your phone with the pointer finger of your other hand.
Settings>General>(Privacy)Fingerprints & Security>(General)Fingerprints>Unlock(Ok)>+ Add fingerprint
4) Camera enhancements
The camera app defaults to a 12 MP pic vs. taking advantage of the full 16 MP it has. Let's change that
Open the settings(the gear icon)>Photo size>4:3(16MP)
While your in there I'd also change the HDR setting
Open the settings(the gear icon)>(General) HDR>Auto

For Samsung refugees, I just discovered you can rearrange the home row buttons so the back button is on the right. You find the option under Display/Home touch buttons.

How quick is LG to update the OS and apply security patches that Google releases on a monthly basis?
I have posted this in another thread but I guess I will post here as well. Nougat feature: double tap the recent apps button to switch between the last app that was used.

I couldn't get debloater to read all my packages on the V20. The only package it would show was setup wizard. I normally use this tool to disable when I don't want to root.

I had a G4 before I jumped to the Galaxy S7 edge. I just jumped to the V20 and going back to back being on the left hand side felt so natural. I didn't even have to relearn it or anything. I miss having the back button on the opposite side of the phone. I'm so happy to be back.
You can use the flash for alerts , sometimes I put my phone face down, seems to work. Just doesnt keep flashing though.

I went into 'Settings' and disabled everything I could there except what I only need. Have had zero issues after and incredible battery life.
Also, to save mobile data usage I disabled background data on everything but Gmail. After 6GB my device slows you see. Let me find out where that setting is for you.
Okay, go into 'Networks' 'Mobile Data' , click on the app and restrict anything you don't need to keep updated when it's not running like Gmail. Only two I have are Gmail and Swype so Swype saves my keyboard new word list. I have a potty mouth and tons of terrible words I add not found in the dictionary and stuff.
I wish you can have a pop-up for incoming calls during navigation like Samsung's Galaxy line.

I don't yet have mine in hand, but knowing about bringing back the app drawer seems rather important! This may be something I'll easily find with the device in hand, but I'm glad I know about this pitfall in advance.
EDIT:
After some looking around at this forum, this looks to be an important tip for people wanting to use IR applications. LG's IR API is already a PITA, yet now LG feels they need to make writing IR applications even more of a pain!
This may be a small issue for you guys but I moved from OnePlus 6 and its killing me just because I can't do this customisation of dragging the notification bar down by double tapping the home button. I have small hands compared to the tall display of the rog 5 and I'm unable to reach the notification bar all the way up. MKBHD said this is the most ridiculous custom phone but where's my small custom. How do I place a request for this to asus? I'm helpless.
you can use swipe down in home screen for notification panel. similar to one plus.
is the double tab home button for the not center while in apps or in the home screen?
Man, some people like to complain instead of trying to learn how to use their phone. If you don't like the phone don't come and complain about it, simply sell it and move on instead of wasting others time.

i am not sure that i agree with you on this, xda forums and other communications platform were built to help people
yes the quuestion was fairly simple, however anyone has the right to ask.
also i think ROG 5 xda forums needs a mod who should create FAQs, restructure the forums, and moderate it.
if we continue like this it is going to be a mess, and hard to get something useful out of it

I'm with @m8822 on this one. This is the developer community; we defined #NeverSettle ages before OnePlus made a complete mess of that understanding. We're not here to accept what manufacturers force upon us. We don't need to learn how to use our phone, our phone needs to learn how to use us! No wait, that came out wrong. Anyway, you get the point
@Madridistas It's been a while since I've used any navigation replacements but you could give our in-house Navigation Gestures a go. I'm not sure if it provides double tap to notifications but may open another door to your goal. Only, ROG 5 is Android 11, isn't it? That probably won't work. Ah well, there's plenty others to try, like Gesture Control or Edge Gestures (or search for more). Whichever you find best, don't forget to get back here and tell us what you found working so it may help others in the future.
The forum mess is by design. Change is never easy... but it can be fun!

Wow, I am with @me on this. Everyone seems to not get the point that I was making, you have the very right to come here @xda, ask whatever questions you feel is needed to be answered, after atleast doing your part(share) of understanding the thing you have.
It's like "someone asking where are my eye glasses, when they are over his head because he forgot he put them over there at the first place and then asking everyone passing if they saw them".
The point is: "GET TO THE POINT", no need to complain about something not related to the question, at the same time do your share of investigating something.
If you look @my account, you will know I am not a newbie, I have asked and answered, created many threads helping others!. So please spare me the... "I, we have the right speech...."
Thanks for your time, and sorry for the irrelevant comment!
Edit: I might seem harsh with my response, but I don't know why when I read the post the first time it seemed like the author was complaining, so I am not sure if he edited the post, or it was my bad coming the way I did. Anyway I apologize if i did, no offense intended.

This may not be a perfect solution but... if you dont mind using a home launcher, Nova launcher has customizable gestures. You can set "double tap the home screen (not button)" to expand notifications. im coming from a 6t also and currently using Nova with the "swipe down" option to expand notifications and double tap to lock the screen.
edit: There is also an option to single tap the home button to expand the notifications while on home screen. so if you are inside an app, say google chrome, you would essentially double tap to open notifications.
1 tap takes you home.
2 taps opens notifications.
Here's how to add Android 11's double-tap gesture to any phone
An app called "Tap, Tap" adapts the shelved Android 11 double-tap gesture for use with almost any modern device running Nougat 7.0 and above.

I can do the swipe down at home in any phone but I can't do it inside an app like WhatsApp or chrome. You know how far the top is to reach with the thumb in ROG phone. I'm attaching the settings screenshot from OnePlus.
