Just wondered if I could import all my apps & data from my titanium backup of nexus4 to a nexus5 ?
Edit : Wrong section, sorry
Edit : Found answer in proper section : Yes
But I can't delete thread, if any moderator is passing by ...
Should be possible
I see no reason for it to not work, especially if you back it up after you get the 4.4 update.

Well, N4 is still on 4.3, but I'm not planning on restoring settings, only apps tho
Thanks for your confirmations

Hi all,
I'm an inspire noob running exist's 4.0.3 asopX version 26 and he recently said that he was going to update us to 4.0.4 for version 27. My question is can I back up what i have to the sd card, do a reset, then recover everything using 4.0.4? Or will i need to do a wipe and manually put stuff back on?
thanks
As Long as the recovery you are using is compatible with your backup, then you can restore it with any Rom you are running. Backups from CWM are not always compatible with 4EXT recovery and vice versa

OK. Got it. Thanks a bunch

I don't think glevitan understood your question correctly, or maybe I don't. I took it you want to back up your apps and such, not the ROM version itself. And to restore everything back on the 4.0.4 version. This has nothing to do with clockwork or 4EXT recovery.
If he releases the 4.0.4 ROM as an update and does not require a full wipe then just install it over top of the 4.0.3 ROM. Most of the time the DEV requires a full wipe though.
Usually it is best to do a full wipe and restore user data with a backup app like Titanium Backup. But you only want to backup and restore user apps. Restoring system data can really mess your ROM up severely. Google contacts will resync when signed in.

haha Now that I see your reply I guess that I didn't get what he was asking...well, he will come back and get what he wants or will ask again...
I will say, no matter how inconsequential it seems, DO. NOT. RESTORE. SYSTEM. DATA. between major android versions. Let me refine that. I back up my playlists using Titanium Backup. I figured this was an insignificant thing and restored it when I moved from CoreDroid to aospX. Firstly, it didn't restore my playlists; secondly, I had to factory reset the phone < 1 day later.
That said, I WILL be restoring playlists and contacts going from AR26 -> AR27. I'll report either here or in the dev thread if it causes problems, but I have 6 g(mail | apps) accounts plus my FB account, and it takes me a considerable amount of time to get the duplicates regrouped.
Hope I helped. BTW, the free version of TiBU is pretty good, you just have to confirm every install. To me, it was worth it to get the pay version so that I could restore all my apps without confirming every one (right now I have 45-50, that's a lot of confirmations). It's also nice to be able to back out of a buggy new version of an app, or to be able to go back if you don't like the new version (I'm looking at you, FB.)
oh i see now. looks like i really lucked out cuz i flashed AR27 and his 4.0.4 then did a recovery. I thought it was a bit odd that it still said 4.0.3 so I came back here. Doh! okie dokie. I'm redoing a wipe and clean install and I'll just push all of my apps back from my google account.
Thanks for all the pointers about Tia Backup

Young, check here. Remember to thank the OP.
I really appreciate all the help guys but I've flashed both the InspireMod 0.5 and the one you both provided the link for. Unfortunately it still doesn't record sound. I am trying to send a message via MMS by recording it. But when I push record it gives me an error of Internal Application Error. I'll try downloading different apps to see how they work. Its just kinda odd the stock recorder doesn't work
Thank you all for your help.

Huh. I'd tell you to check with eXistz in #aospx, but he's away most of the time.... it's like he has one of those "life" things or something.

You should have placed this in the ICS Q/A thread. Do NOT use the development thread for questions. thats why the restriction is in place, so people learn the ropes a bit before they are allowed in there. I would redownload and do a full wipe and reflash. And try to record your mms BEFORE you put all your apps and stuff back on there. Need a clean environment before you can dig deeper into this. Only thing you should put on after installing is inspiremod before doing your mms test. Id love to help test with ya, but i always remove the default mms apk from my phone :/
OK. Now I know. Which messaging app do you use?

Ive searched and read and searched some more. Learned a lot about how to root and the best methods. But what I cant find is the answer to my specific question. I have a new Galaxy S2 skyrocket on at&t running the latest 2.3.6. If I were to root it using the guide on this site, will I lose all my contacts, pica, apps, and settings? Contacts and pics I'm not so worried about because I can back them up to my Pc. But since this is my first android phone (after 4yrs of iphones), it took me about 2 weeks of messing with the settings and notifications and sms apps and so on to get it just how I like it. I'm affraid if I wipe all that by rooting it then ill never be able get it back. Most of the stuff I just figured out by tinkering and trying new stuff till I got what I liked.
Anyway, if anyone can answer that question or point me in the right direction to a rooting process that wont cause me to lose all my stuff, id greatly appreciate it.

There is a sticky at the top of the general forums section that will explain it all. How to root 2.3.6 and all that. And no you will not lose data. Is there a particular reason why you wish to root?
This should be for 2.3.6. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526

Just wanted to remove (or freeze) some of the bloatware. And maybe down the road as I get more comfortable with all this I may try custom roms and things like that. I can jailbreak an Iphone with my eyes closed and had mine customized every which way. This android stuff is awesome but very complicated compared to ios.
I did read the sticky but didn't see anywhere that it answered my specific question about losing settings and such. Today is the first time I've had access to a pc all week and was doing all the searching\reading on my phone. If its in there I must have over looked it.
What baseband are you on? You can find this under settings>about phone. Once you are rooted, titanium backup ( which you find in Play Store) will be your best friend for app back up and restore. It would also be advisable to also flash a version Clockwork mod recovery and make up a backup to restore just in case you soft brick for whatever reason.

I just did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
Actually very easy. Went smooth and I'm now rooted with superuser installed. Now I just need to learn what steps to do next to get the most out of this beast.
Baseband is I727UCLA3 by the way. If you've got any more tips I'll take all the info I can get
Next time search before posting please. Make it a habit.

Actually, as stated in my original post, I did search. I couldn't find the answer to my specific question about losing data and settings and having to start from scratch. Occupational_Hazzard was kind enough to give me the info thati needed. Then I felt comfortable proceeding with the root process.
If I violated the agreement in some way by asking a question on a forum because I wasn't able to find the answer, then by all means delete my account.
And to Occupational_Hazzard, thank you very much for helping out someone who is trying to learn by replying with useful information. Greatly appreciated

Now that you are rooted, I would highly recommend flashing the ClockWorkMod Recovery so you can possibly flash a custom rom in the future, which are usually rooted from the get-go. You need to make a back-up so you can restore to a previous date just in case you accidentally goof something. BTW congrats on the first root of a droid and I am glad to help you.
Did that and installed titanium backup. Was actually scared to death to try it but so far so good! Now I gotta just figure out how all this stuff works one step at a time
Thanks again!

Maybe someone else can chime in, but I usually just backup the user installed apps and data, wifi access points, and so forth. Also you can set the filter to at the top of list things to backup/restore.
Ill work on it some later tonight. By son just woke up from his nap and he doesn't allow for much phone tinkering time at only 15 months old.

For future reference turn google sync on for contacts and that's done... And there is an app called sms backup for sms... What else did you need that titanium doesn't get?
CM9 Skyrocket
Titanium pretty much covers it. I was just worried id lose everything in the rooting process before I was able to use titanium. Its all under control now. Didn't lose a thing and its all backed up

--;..you should have read that we have a questions forum for questions..
I'm trying to figure out ideally how to update my app/data/settings backup that exists on Google Servers. I'd even settle on deleting it and then generating a new one. Why? Because each time I flash a new rom or reset the phone the restore I get is from how my phone was configured months ago.

No point now. He has already asked here. A Mod will move the thread if necessary. Ordinary members may ignore or post a helpful reply.
OP, have you tried uninstalling apps, deleting settings, etc. Then performing a factory reset? That may delete the backup and you wouldn't be restored the next time. But why not simply elect to not restore?
When you set up the rom at first boot, it ask you to use backup and restore... Just deselect that, its simple..if you go on settings-backup deselecting backup does also delete everything remotely
Your Google contacts, Chrome bookmarks, keep notes etc, are still safe anyway

hello
i normally use the codefire 4.3 ROM, installed the karbonkitkat, and one thing that was a bit annoying was the fact that all my apps werent redownloaded? i had to through and individually install them...
anytime i re-rommed using another codefire nightly buid, all my apps were pulled down again...
or is there someting i can force to get all the apps downloaded as normal?
is this by design because its a different android version?
thanks
g
Why don't you just use Titanium Backup to backup your apps? Restoring from TiBu is so much easier than restoring through the Play Store. Even if you don't want to do it that way usually at least you will have a backup for cases like this. In my honest opinion, every single unlocked/rooted phone should have Titanium installed, it's the single most important app for rooted devices.

Hi.
If I don't want to use titanium, can you think of any reason why apps are not coming down post flash? Slimkat works, gummy not....
I have checked backup/restore options during setup...
I don't know. Why don't you want to use Titanium? It'd totally save your butt in situations like this.

Hello,
I've been looking for an answer to this and I feel like I'm missing something.
I have some apps that are no longer available on the Play Store, or that never were (for example, certain Verizon apps), which I installed while on 4.3 (Alliance ROM, specifically). I've been trying the 4.4 ROMs and LOVE them, but after having tried Carbon and a few others, some apps will not restore through Titanium Backup. Is it simply because of 4.3 -> 4.4? I really love KitKat but the apps are more important to me. I've been going through XDA University to help get to the point where I can just create my own ROM but that's quite a while away
Thank you in advance! I love this place.
Search for NextApp SDFix on the play store. Kit Kat disabled the ability to write to the sd card so maybe that will fix your issue. Worth a try at least. Sorry I dont have a link to post

Try installing the app from the market and just restoring the data. Make sure you have unknown sources checked in development section.
Edit: nevermind tldr
Thank you both! That's interesting info, definitely helpful. I'll try NextApp SDFix and report back!
