[Q] Nexus 5 Android 4.4 VS Custom ROMs - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I am a new guy to both the world of flashing ROMs and the XDA developers site, in fact I just registered an account here a few moments ago...
From what I have read, this is definitely the go-to place for everyone who has the intention to make their android device truly their own.
I am getting a Nexus 5 in the following weeks... perhaps months, but I am the type of guy who loves to get ready for everything. Nexus 5 is going to be my first smartphone in the android ecosystem, so I came up with a nice list of android apps for my uses already.
Then I came across ROMs and how great it is to take your android experience to the next level. But I am really into the design and UI of the "vanilla" android experience, and Android 4.4 does look very nice to me. But after seeing how you can customize the quick settings with your own tiles, especially the camera, and the fact that you can add shortcuts on the lock screen as well as the quick launch ring on the bottom, I am quite conflicted with what i want.
And I am aware of how there is no best ROM as people have different tastes and needs… which I completely agree. I have settled my choice on cyanogenmod, since it provides an experience that’s close to stock and adds many awesome features on the top of it.
Now here’s my issue… Although I am quite a tech geek comparing with normal average people, I don't have any experience with rooting and jail breaking systems… at all. I am more of a software guy… I don’t know if I should flash my nexus 5 and install cyanogenmod when I get it, or I should just use the stock android 4.4. Will cyanogenmod have its own version of android 4.4? Like cyanogenmod 11.0? And how easy will it be to install it with the coming cyanogenmod installer? Does cyanogenmod include everything the vanilla android has? I know how google apps need to be reinstall separately… but will they all function the same way they do on the stock android?
I am sorry if these questions are too naïve and too basic. I know how youtube has all these wonderful video reviews of cyanogenmod and the cyanogenmod website has its own blogs... But I live in China and all those resources are blocked… so I will be grateful if someone could take the time and describe how the cyanogenmod will work on a nexus 5.
I also apologize if there are grammar and spelling issues in my post… English is my second language so please excuse me for all the vague usage of word choices…
Thank you.

Will write when I'll have time. C u!

Short reply - play with stock for a few days before making any decisions.
Longer answer - Yes, cyanogen and aokp and lots of others will almost certainly have ROMs out soon. They make a significantly smaller difference to a nexus device than on any other device. There's no bloat to remove, no custom skin to change, etc. The ROMs will let you customize android further in appearance and functionality, and sometimes add cool new features. Many of those features can be copied with apps, however. And there's the xposed module, once it gets updated, which allows you to customize stock to a pretty significant degree.
So, use stock for a few days, see what you like/don't like about it, then start loomin looking at the ROMs and see if you want any of their features.

How easy is it to switch back to stock android 4.4 from a ROM? Do I just simply use the full image backup of the entire thing that I made before flashing the ROM?

Saying this as an ex-Sony user-
Yes, there's sth called a nandroid backup which you can access from the recovery menu (once the custom recoveries have been made stable. There is a sticky in the general forum about how to flash it) - doing this creates a backup of the exact state your OS was in at the time of backup. I.e. your apps, messages, sync settings will all be backed up. So if you mess up somewhere you can always restore from the nandroid (provided you can get into recovery).
Alternatively in the development section there's some stock firmware images that returns everything to factory settings. I'm not sure about the procedure since for Sony our files are flashed using a certain program and I haven't looked at the threads but it should be quite simple as well.
Edit: on a side note there's the thanks button on the left side below the post which you can use if someone helped you. Not asking for thanks, but its common practice here (and in most other forums too)

Nice, it's good to know that android 4.4 is very improved and stable. I really care about the fluency and the stableness of a system. So you purchased it off Google Play?

Ah yeah I always wanted to do that... Well I am planning to get Nexus 5 off some third party guy in one of the electronic stores here in Beijing... The only problem is that it will be another few weeks before these "illegal" nexus 5 get here... so I have to wait... But I guess it's worth it since by then there should be tons of articles and tips online about how to make the most out of the device... plus Cyanogen might have a new version ready too... So if time's right, there will be plenty of resources I can work with by the time i get my own nexus 5...
Aren't you bothered by the fact that you can't customize lockscreen shortcuts and quick launches in "vanilla" android 4.4? That's probably my only concern with android 4.4. I could use tasker and customize the rest...

Not yet still liking the vanilla experience of kit kat I'm sure when paranoid android release a ROM for this I'll flash it lol

Yeah I like the halo feature in paranoid android very much... But I am still sticking to Cyanogenmod... But I guess I will be trying out different ROMs once I master flashing ROMs... btw how do we work with Nexus 5 when making backups? I mean people always talk about the use of SD cards but obviously nexus 5 doesn't have external SD card slot...

Oh I see.. Thanks for the clarification.
What do you think about the Nexus 5's camera? CNET and other sources gave a verdict of a good but not impressive... I hope the camera won't let me down...

It's better than any previous nexus camera's

Dev Request (ACTUALLY READ THIS TIME!)

Hey guys I know you guys are the best devs anywhere.
With that I would like to propose unto you guys a challenge. If any of you have ever gone from the stock HTC ROM to MIUI you probably noticed how the MIUI clock APP absolutely blows.
Now, I would like it very much if one of you developers could take the below attached HTC clock APP and make it so that it is either:
A) Installable as a standalone APP
OR
B) Able to replace the current MIUI clock APP
I would be appreciative beyond words if someone could do this. I myself have no developing background and could not even conceive doing something like this. Plus, I guarantee I would not be the only person gracious for this adaptation. I also do not know if this is possible or not.
Please and Thank You
PS.
I KNOW ABOUT THE WIDGET!!! THIS WAS POSTED ABOUT THE APP!!!
You know replace this

EDIT: Or maybe just please suggest to me a close replacement? What I would really like in the app is the alarms/stopwatch/timer all in one nice looking app, not something that costs a fortune either would be preffered
OK I closed the last one and you make another? That is HTC closck that will only work on HTC roms.
Also no development for MIUI is done here.
Ze, you know to do brother, we're done here.
I saw that you closed the thread but I had thought that you did not understand the nature of my request. When I read it, it sounded as if you were speaking of the widget which, as I have read the forums, has popped up numerous times.
And yes, I get that the widget can not be replicated and I don't care, I actually like apps like beautiful widgets and HD widgets better than the HTC widget.
It's just that as I was reading through the forums for the Inspire here I found a post in which a developer here turned the HTC keyboard into a downloadable app for MIUI and I figured maybe somebody could do the same for this clock app which I like sooooo much more than MIUI's very basic, very stock android like app.
I really liked the added perks of the HTC app but I like MIUI a million times better than the sense ROM, although there are parts of the sense ROM I would very much enjoy having on MIUI (ie power saver, recent apps in notification bar, clock app, facebook syncing, etc.)
Thank you for trying to tell me the first time and I guess my bullheadedness steered me astray. Sorry if you felt mad that I created another thread after you locked the previous one, but as I said I didn't feel you got the point.
One thing I would like to ponder as a group though.
If these apps are cooked into the framework files, would you not be able to just isolate the files within the framework being used for say the clock app or whatever and put them inside whatever framework of whatever custom ROM you wanted?
Dude, It's cooking into the framework. It's not freaking possible. Done. End of story, Bring it on home Porky Pig, that's all folks, Zel, shut it down. Good riddance.
So what your saying is that I can't grab the framework files that the app needs, put them into the framework of my current ROM, and then have the app work?
Because to me that sounds logically sound

Ok the framework files are built on the HTC drivers. Reason HTC framework will not work on other roms. Not to mention HTC holds strong copyrights to sense. On every port attempt they have issued C&D orders and had it removed. MIUI may have gotten away with it on the CM code due to CM not really caring but HTC will never allow it. HTC uses a custom framework file called com.htc.resources which links right into the drivers and other HTC only files. So simple answer is no. You would have to rewrite the whole OS to make it work not to mention building the drivers from scratch. People wanting Sense on other phones and OSs is nothing new. IT has been brought up for years and the same is now as it was 4 years ago when sense came out. If you want any sense apps you have to run a Sense rom.
Edit: Zel beat me to it.

Where your logic fails is that each rom only uses a max of 2 framework apks, and a few framework jar files. Which I think is where you are getting confused. You have a framework-res.apk and a framework.jar file. As well as a com.HTC.framework.apk and a HTC framework jar file. All of those would need to be ripped apart and reprogrammed to use different drivers and hardware files. Oh and I forgot. The tools needed to decode HTC coding are not available to the public.

Not to mention the fact that HTC really doesn't like the Dev community. Hence why the Vivid still hasn't achieved permanent root via software exploit like the Inspire, or able to be unlocked and rooted via htcdev.com

Not even close to true. XDA was built off of HTC devices. While yes they are having issues with bootloaders due to carriers. Which don't want the bootloaders unlocked. If HTC ships an unlocked bootloader ATT or T-Mobile or whoever asks for it to be locked. Surprise surprise carriers don't think the average person should have an unlocked bootloader. And to be honest they may be right. What is done here is not for everyone. You can see this by the lazy posts about wanting to skip steps like a full wipe on new rom flash, or they brick their device. Then they want to return it to warrenty, but now they can't due to Modding the device in anyway breaks the warrenty. So returning a phone after you brick it Modding it is fraud.

Ok now that I understand due to the framework differences, is there any apps similar to the HTC one (has alarms/timer/stopwatch all in one app) available that you guys could suggest me?
One thing I don't understand though is that like you said, sense was released 4ish years ago. Within that 4 year timeframe you would have thought that somebody would have cracked HTC's coding by now.
One thing I still don't get though is how was this user able to turn the HTC keyboard into an installable app for anyone who wanted it?

The keyboard is a stand alone apk it is not hard to reproduce. It has no parts in the framework files. People have tried to hack their coding. But when they switched to android they rebuilt all the coding. That is followed by a cease and desist order by HTC if you get to close. Rememeber the one set of Widgets HTC had pulled and just recently the HTC sense 3 style lockscreen. Both pulled by HTC

No I will track down the name when I have time. Still have an older apk somewhere I think. But thebpoint is HTC are very struck about the copyrights to sense. Any poet that has even come close has been pulled due to a C&D order which XDA will follow. So if they ask us to we will remove it.

LG ICS

Anyone interested? I don't have much info on it now cause my time is short but here is a screen shot. It was "ported" over using cm9 alpha 5 as base

*Bugs*So*Far
When entering landscape and exiting landscape on the LG launcher it force closes for some reason.
Some LG generic icons show till a reboot happens ( first boot only )
LG Music widget isn't working ( looking for an easy fix or removal ).
*Tweaks*
There are some tweaks too like long hold of power while screen is off activates torch.
Pressing the camera button while screen is off and music is playing will pause/play current track.
The rom looks like cm9 other than launcher so I dunno if you would consider it a port lol...

I just want to be sure before I get to deep with it. And like I said I don't have much info other than what's here was pulled from an LG ICS leaked system dump. It was done for the evo shift and I talk to the dev all the time so I'm going to see if I can help him iron out his issues along the way of this one because I also support that phone with a different ROM/kernel. I don't want to get ahead of myself, I'm busy till Sunday but wanted feed back on the idea. In the mean time I'm going to run what I have just to get a feel for it and the bugs it has. Once I get a chance to look at the dump ill be able to see if there are little pieces left out that could/would be causing the force close issues with a couple things. Or they could just be broke that's why its a leak anyways I'm off to bed for a change

Best bet would be to post in development section regarding this. I don't think much of the flash junkies ever visit the general sub forum unless they have some problems with their device! lol!
Anyways a Work in Progress is already considered as development right? So I don't think that would make it offtopic.

Sense is heavy and bloated. I really hate that about it. What really draws me to this is that its based on Cyanogenmod. CM has really nice tweaks and features, some I've come to feel I can't live without nowadays. I don't think there's a device I could get and not use CM on it. This would be a really nice change from stock CM for me

Would be nice to try it out! Can't hurt to have an addition to the ROM choice here right!?
Thanks Strapped. Family comes first.
::Respect::
I'd love to take a look at that one myself Strapped. Looks a bit different. Seems to have some visual enhancement to it too but I can't quite put my finger on just what.....maybe something about the app drawer icon shading. And to be honest with you I've always been a bigger fan of CM9 derivatives than the original. No offense to the CyanogenMod team tho..........
Love to see YOU get your hands on this one! :good:
Yeah I def need to figure something out. Its a port from a system dump, to the evo shifts cm9 rom, then ported from that device to ours. Its running the LG launcher and also the motoblur ics launcher. Of course the LG widgets won't run on the MoTo launcher but there are no MoTo widgets. Hopefully I can find parts around the net for both lauchers to be complete(high hopes). I will say its a def change from the standard cm ROM. Last battery only got about 10 hours with 3 hours screen on but I'm thinking all the youtube videos my daughter watched today played a big role in that, so after a full day of running no new bugs have popped up. And since this is gonna get atleast some usage I can have the mod lock/delete this soon and just start a dev thread for the ROM once I get it up

That already sounds VERY promising! I'd be happy to apply as an "Orkin Man" on the project for you if you need anyone. It looks to be a VERY different ROM from what any of us are used to seeing!

You already know G. I'd like to port everything. The only thing stopping me now is the full port won't boot/logcat and the themed cm9 would be ready I just don't like the landscape FC issue

Man everywhere I turn its like I can't make a decision on what to touch. I have the aokp the paranoid-android,MikTouch and MikXE for this device then Supreme Sense and an aokp for the speedy, along with trying to get my speedy source updated on git so I can post there tweaked kernel with no low level battery cap. I've had it done for about a month but then the slave got wiped so I have to reproduce a source without compiling again since some major changes happened and now my commands won't turn the zImage into a boot-new.img correctly

MAN! That's awful. I sure do hope it's not a mechanical issue with your slave drive otherwise there may be other issues looming on the horizon.
It sounds to me like you're juggling chainsaws right now.....even more than I realized. I don't know how you keep it all straight in your head! When I take on more than one project at a time it reaaally messes with me.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate yours and the other developers time & efforts that call the DS "home". And I also understand that even though you have a perfectionist living inside you, this is a very nice ROM even with the few issues that are haunting you. I guess I've just gotten used to using a few very easy workarounds to the point I hardly notice them anymore. When you decide to, this is going to be one that people like myself appreciate more than some others will. Being that, there really is a minority group of us that just likes the derivative ROMs generated from the CyanogenMod code really better than the "original" in most cases. Even though it's mostly just a launcher change in your mind....this is definately one of the ROMs. :good:

Well in that case..... I got some cabinets to hang today, and measure to downsize a Window and once that's done I'll upload.......
And the bigger issues I can see coming faster than I could have imaged. I have a windows hd now thanks to you. And it will boot up just fine with the slave attached, but Linux will no longer boot with thee slave attached, it actually freezes because I have to hit esc to enter my boot menu to choose what drive to boot :banghead:

I'm glad to hear that! And very soon there will be lots of us that will be glad too. I run it on a pretty regular basis myself simply because the things I use regularly do work so well. Besides, over the past couple of months we've had several programmers with varying degrees of abilities move in here with us that I can forsee them wanting to see if they can figure out those very few issues that you really just don't have the time to right now. That is, if you don't mind. We DO have a very healthy community attitude here for the DS ya know.
I wish I knew something to tell you about your slave drive issue though. Would physically setting it to "drive select" instead of "slave" with the jumpers have any affect on it?

I still don't have a development box to start developing so that first before the WIP since I would need to pull the whole CM build and compile it just to make this recovery. I don't think my good old vps is enough to do this kind of job and I'm not also considering to reformat my windows PC just for this.
I think it has been a pretty good summer for development on our MT4GS. We've got a nice crop of ICS roms to choose from, either AOSP or CM or several Sense flavors. It's a smorgasbord! :highfive:

Well Sun_Dream has worked on our phone with a bit of Sense roms if you dig that.
"HTC Doublshot ICS Bliss" sporting Sense 3.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896643
and
"Doubleshot Android 4.0.4 Sense4.1+4A Base Ville_U_ICS_40_S_2.31.401.5": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832805
Both seem solid, didn't quite test them out as I'm digging XMC's Jellybean.
Should be a lot of development when Sense 4.5 comes out though I sense ports coming.

Ok so where I'm at now. I have figured out I didn't need to use anything from the EVO Shift to get this LG launcher up and running. So its not a port anymore ( so it lost andromaus settings which were cool but caused wakelocks ), its more so a launcher replacement, all other cm9 functions work like they should. So right now I'm trying to figure out how to post it, and here are my posting options I can either
1. Just package all the launcher and widgets as a flash over for any CLEAN INSTALL OF AOSP/AOKP ( will need testers for AOKP ). And a certain set of gapps so the gallery don't get broken
Or
2. I can just pre package everything into a CM build ( gapps and all ) so nothing gets broken. Its your call here is a couple screen shots. And if anyone wants to give it a try just pm me ill get you a dropbox link

I don't know about other people, but personally I'd go with option 2. You will have a lot less bugs to deal with and give yourself more time to focus on improving it and adding features. I don't know what you think about that but that's what I'd go with

[Q] why there is no special features like as in lg g2 or any other high end phones

hello guys...
Just wanted to know why nexus 5 doesn't have special features such as camera effects, special effects for home screen or so on..
That's because Nexus line of devices come with pure vanilla android!
If you want those effects, there are tons of apps available on the playstore
You do realise what Vanilla means right?

As stated its because we have pure "vanilla" android. It's a bit boring to some but its exciting for those that want speed and love to hack/modify.
Think of it this way. The Nexus 5 is like a Lamborghini (uncomfortable to drive, but very fast), phones like the G2 are like a Mercedes still pretty fast (not as fast as the Lambo) but its more luxurious and packed with features.
The main feature exclusive to the Nexus 5 is timely updates straight from Google.

Yeah http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanilla_software
Anyway the reason is of course that the software is built from aosp with Google addons, while this is also the case for any other device, except those have their respective customisations on top of aosp and Google addons.
So nexus 5 has plenty of special features, they are just not exclusive, as Google is about software and makes money from all android devices, and allows all OEMS to use these features, while the OEMS want to keep their features exclusive in order to attract customers to their devices.
So every time Google adds new features, its also rolled out to all other android devices.

Welcome to the forum!
The features you mentioned are really easy to add if you are rooted. BEFORE you root, however, I strongly suggest that you read everything you can about the phone to become familiar with its native functionality (e.g., the sticky threads at the top of this forum) as well as the N5 Apps and Themes forum to get an idea of how you can mod (Browsing the Play Store and trying out apps is also a lot of fun). ONLY after you have read thoroughly everything mentioned above, you can decide if you'd like to root (which I recommend, because many great apps and mods require root) and, perhaps, try flashing some custom roms and kernels.
I'm familiar with Google play and have installed many apps from there, but I've not owned another Android phone. So I don't know what capabilities other high end phones have that are missing on the N5.
What are some of the better customizations some high end phones have that I could add to the N5 using which apps? I am rooted but would prefer to remain with stock rom 4.4.2 rather than flash a new rom.
Thanks.
Actually, we're still slightly modified from vanilla aosp. We have Google dialer lookup and photosphere.

Since you are rooted, I would suggest perhaps looking into xposed framework and the gravity box module, since it's essentially made for phones this close to stock android. You can enable a ton of useful features from there, all on the stock ROM. There are also kernels you can flash to attain certain features, such as the knock on screen to activate thingy that comes with the LG G2. There aren't really a tone of features that other phones have that the N5 doesn't, The base functions are essentially the same, they just present a ton of different ways to go about it. With gravity box, for example, you can make it so when you tap on the status bar the phone goes to sleep. You can really do anything you want as far as customization, but all smartphones essentially do the same thing ie:internet, phone calls, camera, bt, music etc. Since you went ahead and rooted, research custom recoveries and start going to town exploring options. There are a ton for a phone such as this, it's just a matter of sifting through all the option until you find exactly what you want. You can google the highlights that other OEMs provide and find a close-as-possible match for that feature, whether it be a module, rom or kernel. There are A TON of options, so don't get overwhelmed and have fun brother! Modding a Nexus is, in my opinion, more about the journey of exploring the possibilities rather than searching for the perfect set up. Welcome to the best phone out right now and if there is anything I can help you with, please feel free to PM me.
Thanks for replying. Because I've never used one of the other phones I just didn't know what I was "giving up" by going with Nexus.
I've been a user of Xposed Framework, Xgravity, Xprivacy, and Boot manager for some time and love them. Also greenify, titanium backup, Nova prime, and TWRP. I'm delighted with the phone but had no previous experience to compare it with which is why I asked the question.
For instance I've heard some users rave about their MotoX interface but I don't know what made it so special. Do you know?
(Still scared to go into kernels and different roms because everything is working so well and I don't want to mess things up).

The 2 biggest aspects, as far as I understand, to what makes the Moto X so unique is the "always listening" feature, which we have with ok Google and the active display lockscreen, which shows messages and content from the lockscreen using a black background. Since it is AMOLED, that uses less battery than actually turning on the phone to look at the message. There are a couple app that can perform this function for any phone (AcDisplay and Dynamic Notifications.) While they are certainly cool, doesn't do us much good battery-savingwise because we don't have AMOLED screens. Moto X also uses its core in some way that is supposed to be more efficient...but I honesty haven't looked into it much : ) I completely understand about be wary with kernels and ROMs! I've been flashing assorted mods for a couple of years, but it took me some time to commit myself to doing it and I read and read and read because I didn't wanna jack anything up. Inevitably I did, but it was a learning experience. I completely understand about the stock ROM as well. I have tried a few ROMs and kernels on this phone and decided that I was perfectly happy with stock. I'm not even rooted anymore and I locked my bootloader back (shameful, I know. and though this kind of contradicts what I was saying about experimenting, stock is where I am the most satisfied...I've tried plenty of other ROMs, but I've found I crave true stability) This phone is a beast as is and the only reason I would ever root is just for gravity box, but I'm content for now. There are some bugs with stock, but Google is working on them and there should be an update in the near future.
Thank you.

Why custom room?

I see a few "home-brewed" roms out there but not with their difficulties to install and possible soft bricking.
I don't see any of these roms beating out simply sticking with stock, rooting, exposed framework w/ gravity box, V4A, and secure settings.
This is all that is needed for me to be happy. Until an official rom comes out that has this phone figured out with gapps and have all these mods built in and a bit safer to flash, then maybe then.
So, all in all, I'm happy until this happens. Any one else happy with their set up as of now and if an official rom comes then fine time to play some more?

Because custom rooms on phones are much cooler. You can flash any color paint you want on the walls and even flash yourself a man cave. J/K. But seriously, this is the first phone I have ever owned that I'm actually satisfied with the stock Android experience. When I was using an HTC Evo 3D back in the day, I grew quite fond of MIUI so I would love to see an Oreo version of that down the line. For now I'm sticking with stock. I never tried Lineage OS so I may try that as things progress, but not as a daily driver. There is a version of Lineage for my Nvidia Shield TV that I may duel boot to and play with before I try it on my Pixel.

There are a lot of MIUI launchers, if that's the experience you're looking for - see https://play.google.com/store/search?q=miui launcher . (An app is an app, regardless of which phone it's running on, so the fact that a particular app is running in an HTC won't change anything about it much, if at all, it's just the launcher that makes the real difference.)

What I was actually stating is that the stock Pixel ROM is actually quite nice and useable even for a power user. Whereas the stock ROM for other phones I've owned were the opposite so I actually needed to run a 3rd party ROM to truly enjoy my phone. As far as MIUI, the launcher was not the reason I liked it so much. In fact, I really enjoy the Pixel launcher. (#1) When running a real MIUI ROM you have the ability to master toggle Root. This is a security feature and you can turn root off entirely when not needed and turn it on only when needed. (#2) The built in firewall is very handy. It not only allows you to select which apps can connect to the internet and which ones cannot but specifically which app processes can and cannot. I am able to stop Google services from sending anonymous info behind the scenes while keeping basic functionality of Gapps. (#3) The built in permission manager. Much more advanced than the permission manager on our Pixel 2 phones being that on MIUI there is a list of permissions most people don't know exist. These permissions are not configurable and hidden in most ROMs such as the ability turn off an apps access to your phones unique ID (IMEI, serial #, etc). These advanced permissions can be configured for both user and system apps alike. Again, just giving an app the bare minimum permissions it needs to function correctly without anything extra or intrusive. In addition, I really like the settings menu layout as well as additional settings not found in most AOSP ROMs. However, the last version of MIUI I really used like this was Jelly Bean based so I can only imagine how far it has come since then and I'm looking forward to trying an Oreo based version on my Pixel some time in the future.
I was about to purchase pixel 2 this weekend. While big brother (pixel 2 XL) having certain screen QC issues, I was thinking to get smaller one (even though - not big fan of small screen, small battery and huge bezels, but whatever). I remember my good old days with Nexus 5 with tons of custom ROMs. I was thinking the is going on right now with pixel 2 family.
I was shocked that there''re no custom ROMs so far. Wow... Even TWRP is in beta stage, but pixel 2 has been released months ago. That's weird....
Am I missing smth or got blind all of sudden? Why there''re no custom ROMs???

I remember my good old days with Nexus 5 with tons of custom ROMs. I was thinking the is going on right now with pixel 2 family.
I was shocked that there''re no custom ROMs so far. Wow... Even TWRP is in beta stage, but pixel 2 has been released months ago. That's weird....
Am I missing smth or got blind all of sudden? Why there''re no custom ROMs???

A/b partition that Google decided to go for pixel is tough and cumbersome for devs
And most developers moved to oneplus due to less price
Cheers ?

That's what I was thinking about OnePlus 5T.
I guess whoever wants custom ROM should get OnePlus 5T, but not pixel 2.

You might need to use a PC or view XDA in desktop mode from a mobile device.
