Never seen that wake lock before, ever tried googling it?
13% that looks pretty good!

This is completely nonsense, EVERYONE will have a different wakelock percent unless you're all on a completely fresh factory reset....

How much do you use email n calendar?
Sent from Note 3 (The beauty & beast)

Wow, what is the total time spent on calendar storage out of 7h11m?

The percentage doesn't mean much. Ideally, we like to have the awake time very close to the screen on time. That means, the device was working only when we actively use it (screen on). If the awake time is much higher than the screen on time, that means the device is doing lots of stuffs in the background while the screen was off and therefore consumed battery.
so for example, if mine gets 80% : out of 10 hours, mine slept for 2, awake for 8, screen on for 8. Mine is doing much better than your 20%, if yours awake for 2, slept for 8, but with a screen on time of 1.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 4

What you say in your example is right, but we still need a way to represent that in terms of efficiency.
That can be defined as:
Deep Sleep / (Total Time Measured - Screen On Time)
Click to collapse
This means, for every unit of time (ie: 1 minute) where sleep is possible, how much of it was actually spent sleeping?
Which is also the same as saying inversely:
Awake time, while screen off / (Total Time Measured - Screen On Time)
Click to collapse
How much time was spent being awake, (while screen was off) for every unit time where it is possible to be sleeping?

Juice Defender Ultimate settings

I have aways believed these Apps to be gimmicky but I have noticed a lot of people using JDU so I bought into the hype and way to know why the best setting or what setting you have set. Other than XDA I only browse FB twice a day and listen the MOG about and hour a day. My battery lasts all day with average use but I get a very poor sleep state. Burn 20-30% over 6 idle hours with screen off. I want JDU to help out with that. Thanks for the input
And if JDU is a joke let me know so I don't waste my time. Thanks.

No, it is not a joke. I think that on the balanced setting it adds maybe a couple of hours to the battery. In that setting, it switches off certain background processes and radios until you start using the phone again. Thus, JDU only helps when you are not using the phone. If you do heavy use, its utility is minor. I set it at "balanced". At "aggressive" it really kills a lot of the background tasks.

Why is my battery dying so fast?

It seems like my battery is draining very quickly. Android is the highest on my battery list. I don't have anything weird installed or syncing and my screen is set to 50% brightness. Any ideas?

If you have root access you can install Better Battery Stats (Free here: http://goo.gl/EjdB8) and choose partial wakelocks since unplugged. That will tell you what's keeping your phone from deep sleep.
Nothing is standing out in partial wake locks. Every bar is pretty much empty. And that app isn't free anymore according to that post.

Maybe it's not bad. I'm not one to complain about the battery life, but it just seemed like it was tanking fast. Like percentage points per minute.

Op, are you rooted? I noticed my battery goes a little quicker since I rooted and flashed cm10. I also noticed you are on 3g, did you disable 4g, is 4G available in your area? Maybe the phone constantly searching for 4G is draining. Not sure how that would show up in battery usage stats though.

Yes I am rooted. I noticed the battery draining faster after I flashed Google Wallet. I am stock rooted though. I turn off NFC when I don't need it, and the app doesn't sync often.
I'm not in a 4G area, but that has never drained my battery before. I can't imagine Wallet would be draining my battery..
I should also note that my brightness is set to full at all times. What's of interest to me is the fact that it isn't draining so much when the screen is on, it's when the screen is off is when it drains the most it seems. I'll leave the phone off for at least 20 minutes and when I turn it back on it'll have lost a few points.
Can't seem to figure it out. Like I said, it seems like I started noticing the battery draining quicker after I installed Google Wallet.

[Q] Screen absolutely killing battery

Hi, so ever since ICS, or at least SCv7 (not sure if it did it stock, I switched right away), my screen has bee completely killing my battery
I still get perfectly fine life with the screen off, but it just drops right down with it on even not doing anything to heavy. Definitely a problem not normal.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
P.S. Thanks for the new Q and A section by the way.

What are your screen settings at (levels, auto on/off, etc)? Screen is by far the biggest drain on battery. Check my Battery Guide, last Page for an app mentioned to lower brightness more than the stock settings will allow for- maybe that would help in certain instances. I haven't tried it myself, but will be doing so over the weekend, and if beneficial I will update the OP with it.
My SGS3 is the same as my A2 being that the screen gobbled up battery like crazy. So, I suppose you're not alone, at least with what I've experienced.
Not sure if any of this is helpful, but thought I'd share my thoughts...

I keep it on auto or low all the time. this is definitely a real problem, because it was nowhere near as bad on GB. now I know they fixed the cell standby issue, but I can literally see the battery go right on down when I turn it on. 3-4 hours on would kill it.
Maybe try with auto off for a while, see if you notice any difference.

Turn auto off and get a widget to adjust yourself. Read an article one time how on Android system auto brightness is more harm than good.

Looking at your battery's discharge rate graph, looks pretty normal. There's no drastic drops in battery, it's fairly linear in discharge, and even if the screen is using most of that. However, there could be other culprits. What about sync, or haptic, or any of the other things I outlined in my guide? WiFi is off, from what I saw, but might not just be the screen. Have you tried editing build prop for "deeper" deep sleep or edits to other things? I'm going to update my OP with a few more things I thought of for improving overall battery life this weekend. Maybe some of the new ones will help...

I'm sure that the display is eatin more than GB ....
i didn't see display going >50% in GB ..... now on ICS its like always >=70%
i have 2nd system as MIUI from "rdavisct" when i switch to it & come back to ICS
then my battery calibration scrambles ... i did switchin yesterday & it showed me
30% far early than expected
Same problem here..my screen draining 57%
Why don't you try the app betterbatterystats it's here in xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868
This may help to see the real problem of the fast battery drain you said, also you can install the app rootDim from the playstore to custom your screen brightness.
I hope this helps.

I'm impressed with battery life on CM

So ive used a debloated touchwiz rom and CM10.2, I noticed minimal battery difference in life. Usually averaging around 3 1/2 hours worth of screen life... Recently I installed ktoonz kernel and managed to clock the CPU to 189-378mhz, I must say this kernel is awesome managing battery life. Just look for yourself

There are plenty of "Off Topic" threads of which this belongs. Or even post it in the CM10.2 thread.
But... cool. I had over 24 hours on my battery yesterday using stock MF3 TW. It was at 45% with 2.5 hours screen on time.
Not even impressive at all.

I agree this is kinda normal for a GS4 right now on mine.. is 19h 53m with screen on time 3h 10m and it's at 52% battery, BTW I'm on shostock with stock kernel..

anytime you do an update give it a day or two before determining how the battery is.. it burns through some doing optimizations on the first load

i can also say the edge screen isn't giving that multi touch palm issue any more. Im glad to see that fixed as well.
I'm afraid to do the update since they say it cannot be rolled back
if you are looking for any root in the future i would suggest holding back from updates
I updated and so far cpuspy says deep sleep instantly as soon as screen is off and dont see any wakelocks so far. I disabled junk and uninstalled stuff I dont need and removed notifications for any games(I just check my games and weather manually). So far no android system drain at all in 15m on battery. I updated 30min ago then fast charged.

Battery has been good since updating this morning. I normally get 9 SOT. I'm down to 83 percent and already have 2 hours SOT. Can't wait to see how this pans out in a few days!
Has anyone checked if this update unlocked the bootloader?
That first update knocked out 2.4ghz wireless reliability, I wonder if this will fix it! *fingers crossed*
My battery and camera have been great! I haven't had a low-light picture that was amazing yet, but that's not their fault!
Hooray! They fixed the screen too sensitive already. And I feel it run smoother now.

Agreed. This was my biggest pain point. What a relief that its fixed!
Screen sensitivity fixed here as well. It so much easier typing now. Also my palm resting on the edge no longer makes the screen go unresponsive.
Android System battery drain also fixed.
I'm torn between accepting this update and holding off for root possibilities.

I'm in the same boat. All these reports of improved battery life and smoothness/camera/touch screen makes it harder to wait. I figure if you're content with the battery life then just wait it out. I hope potential root would yield better results than any update [emoji41]
