Rooting - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will unlocking the bootloader/rooting the phone still follow the standard method that all other Nexus phones follow?

[Q] rooting/flashing without void warranty

Hi All,
I`ve just purchased a NS and I want it to be rooted. It was quite easy on my previous phone (SG3), but now I`m unable to find any guides to do this without unlocking the bootloader.
Actually flashing a custom ROM, such as CM7 would be the next step but I can live with this original one(2.3.4), but rooting is vital, I`m unable to live without eg. titanium backup, but also need the 2 years warranty...
Do you have any idea for solving this?
Thanks in advance.

You can try the Gingerbreak exploit. Other than that I know of no way without unlocking the bootloader.
I`v tried Gingerbreak yesterday but unfortunately it`s not working.
Any other idea?
No. I thought the Gingerbreak exploit might have been fixed in 2.3.4 but I wasn't sure. I don't know of any other way without unlocking the bootloader.
Why don't you unlock the bootloader? It is not like the nexus one. The bootloader can be locked again at ur wish with the command : fastboot OEM lock
You can unlock the bootloader, flash your recovery, flash your rom and lock it up again if that is your wish.

This would be fine if this is not causing warranty issues.
To be honest I've read somewhere in this forum that unlocking the bootloader is irreversible and voids the warranty.
So please repose me.

None that I'd know of, maybe someone got a private hardware approach/mod, but that I highly doubt.
Gingerbreak before 2.2 (I think) or unlocking bootloader via fastboot oem unlock.
This really shouldn't be a huge concern.
Look at the language on the unlock screen. Unlike the Nexus One which stated unlocking voids the warranty the Nexus S language has been tweaked to indicate unlocking *may* void your warranty.
Even with unlocked bootloaders HTC honored the warranty on the Nexus One for hardware issues. Don't expect to unlock, root, leave the LED on high for 20 minutes and then try to send it in for repair when it burns out though.

New S5 user looking for root support

Hello all I recently got a sprint S5 activated on boost mobile and so far I am really enjoying it and I was wondering what it takes to unlock this device for root capabilities. Such as how to unlock the bootloader and S-Off and how to install TWRP.

Sweet thanks for the link now is there an RUU method or in other words, returning the phone to complete factory stock?
Familiarize yourself with Odin. It's a PC program used to flash things like the stock tar file, which is similar to HTC's ruu.

Alright thanks you I should have enough information now to root my phone and restore it back in case I want to restore it back to normal. Now does the bootloader need to be unlocked and do Galaxys have the S-Off option. (I came from an HTC phone which is why I am using HTC terms lol. This is also my first Galaxy Phone)
I've had HTC phones before as well, so I totally understand. There is no s-off needed. The only locked bootloaders are on Verizon and AT&T. The only concern on samsung phones is tripping the Knox counter, which only affects warranty claims (and not always).

Reinstalling Recovery after Removing Root and Re-locking Bootloader

I feel like an idiot for asking this, possibly because I am one (which can certainly be debated), but here it goes.
As the title states, I pretty much screwed up in not making sure that I had everything in place after removing root and relocking the bootloader. How would I go about re-flashing the stock recovery? I'm running a Pixel 2 and would like to be able to side load updates in the future.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Is OEM unlock switched on ? Did you try unlocking your bootloader using fastboot?
If you can't access the recovery because the bootloader keeps crashing, then you just hard bricked your phone and there is no way back
I was able to unlock the bootloader again, so I don't think all hope is lost.

How do I root a TMobile OnePlus 7 Pro with TWRP?

Do I have to convert to international first? If so, how?

Yes. It's a really easy process, and there's a few threads that outline how to do it. I don't think you can run the international ROM without your phone being SIM unlocked permanently though. Not sure, since I went ahead and had mine done before I ever messed around with my bootloader.
The international way is, in my opinion, the best way because it doesn't involve requesting the bootloader unlock code from T-Mobile, so if you need to use the warranty for whatever reason you should be able to use the MSM tool to flash back to T-Mobile stock which re-locks your bootloader and you should be good to go.

Question Will Google Pay work on the phone if I lock the bootloader again after it was unlocked last time?

Do not try to lock bootloader, it would brick your device

Understand, but is there a method to use google pay with unlocked bootloader and without root?

Apparently you are out of luck without root, but if you want to do one thing from relocking bootloader and rooting, rooting would be easier.
Also if you brick your device you would still have options if you have unlocked bootloader.
