Have you tried (& succeeded) hiding the onscreen buttons and using gestures instead
I tried getting rid of the nav bar and used the pie controls, but it just feels weird , it's not instantaneous like the on screen buttons. I think gestures would be a better option, something like swipe left back, swipe right :multitasking swipe down:home
I know there's a "swipe back" mod on Xposed, but it doesn't work all that well, with a lot of apps it just sends to the homescreen and sometimes the previous screen becomes the "wallpaper" when I'm on the homescreen.
I tried too an app called "swipe home back" but it just some presets and I cannot set the way the gestures work
If you are rooted you can use LMT Launcher with Gestures and/or ISAS commands.

It won't replace Google Launcher. LMT is like a PIE advanced app.
i think u meed a diff phone for that. those soft buttons are a replacement for those phones without the 3 hard buttons.
OK when you pull down your status bar, you can sometimes (on some roms) swipe to the right or left on a blank spot and it will switch over to the Quick Tiles pulldown.
I have tried looking everywhere that lets me turn it on, or a Xposed module, etc.
I have no idea what it is really called. Anyone know/can help?
Roms that have it.

Stock Roms, etc.
Thanks again for any info as this is bugging me.

But that only lets you from pulldown. I'm talking about when it is already pulled down. You swipe (like you would to clear a notification) on a empty spot and it takes you to quick tiles, and vise versa.

Oh right. It doesn't have a name. I don't know anyway to get this without flashing a rom to get it
Damn... that's the last thing that's driving by ocd crazy... My favorite rom doesn't have that and I have no idea what it's called or how to add it.

On the stock ROM, when you pull down the status bar, the icon on the right side top allows you to toggle between notifications screen and the quick tiles. Are you looking for that, but with a swipe instead? (if so, why not just click that icon instead? Saves you a swipe)
The swipe is good an easy. I missed it. The icon is just a bit too far away. Glad I have it in slim

My right thumb can barely move due to a injury. So swiping helps quite a lot.
ok, make sense
Hello,
Has anyone found a way to hide the navigation bar buttons or toggle immersive mode? By having the home key buttons slide out of the way when not in use, it makes the bezels appear much smaller and really takes advantage of more screen space. Both LG and Samsung have this feature built into their system options and I've noticed how much better many apps look when it's enabled. Plus, it may help with the apparent screen burn-in issue. I just tried loading the GMD Full Screen Immersive Mode app on a demo Pixel 2 XL at a Verizon store and it kind of worked, but not in all apps. It worked great in Chrome and Maps, but not in Twitter or the NFL Mobile app. In those apps, the buttons hid out of the way, but the black bar stayed. I'm considering purchasing a Pixel 2 XL, but this one feature has been holding me back. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.
Have a great day!

Thank you sir this works perfectly, you can also enable immersive statusbar. Now my screen is seems a bit bigger and I don't have to worry about the burn in. Jesus this app just made me fall in love with this phone ?

I've tried using this on my Pixel 2 a couple times. The grant permissions are given, but the app shows it is not compatible with the device.
**UPDATE** and now just letting it sit on the test screen (had to do something else) it shows it can.

Once you've granted permission the test screen seems to stall so you need to close the app and open it again

I just did this mod on my Pixel 2. I hid the navbar which gives me more screen space, very cool. Thanks.
would the 18:9 aspect ratio of the 2xl just hide the buttons or would it stretch the screen?

No, that is for the 6P but This will work for the Pixel XL

Did anyone else have trouble getting the permission to work? I followed exactly but got nothing.
No, no problem.
You can also LeeDroid's Shortcutter app for this purpose - I've used that to put a toggle for immersive mode in my notification shade. Both that and Custom Navigation Bar work fine on my phone, but if you are having trouble with one you could try the other. You have verified that ADB is working (e.g. a quick "adb devices")? I had to update it on my laptop before it would work with my Pixel.
I finally got it all to work just took multiple times of opening and closing the app. Are we unable to completely get rid of the nav bar without root? Im using swipe navigation but the nav bar keeps coming up.
Why can't google make this an option like samsung?
So when you slide right on home line with hints showing, it let's you slide through your recent apps.
How do you do this when you hide the lines aka hints?
Anybody have a clue? I've been trying to Google this and cannot! Find it. All I find is how the dot is gone and blah blah blah.... I want to hide the clues cuz these lines are annoying and I love gesture navigation! Now that I'm used to it... but I cannot swipe the home button to panel through recent apps if I hide them..

Weird, mine works fine without hints, I can swipe at the bottom left or right on task manager. Btw I'm on stock official pie update
mine works without hints too. same way as it would if you had hints.

You just swipe up left "button" and you go to recent apps. Only there you can swipe left/right thorough recent apps
I have had issues with getting this to work too. I am using the Bixby button - short press for back and long press for recent apps. Also double tap for flashlight. Good option since it doesn't seem to work without the lines on the bottom of the screen.
It sounds like it might only be not working for some phones. I have a Snapdragon S8+ on Verizon. The screen gestures do not work for me.

But with the hints showing you can swipe right on home line and it brings up a quick recent. Which is unavailable if you hide gesture hints
I posted just above saying that the gestures were not working for my phone a month ago. Well they started working. I can't tell you why. Verizon S8+. My phone isn't rooted. Need to fix my info.
Quick question. I've had my phone since Monday. I'm fairly used to the gesture system available in OP6 for recent and back. OP8t throws that out the window with Google Assistant and makes back gesture from the side of the screen... In a lot of the apps I use, side swipe is used for a different function so I end up going back all the time.
Any way to change this without root? Waiting for that to be fully developed before I hop on it.
Setting >> gesture
Choose 3 buttons

Change to 3 buttons navigation, and use Vivid Navigation Gestures app to emulate the OP6 style gesture. In the app you can hide the stock navigation bar.
Some users are also reporting that left and right edges are not very sensible to single touches. Probably an overprotective edge rejection. The corners are affected by this, and google assistant, so if you are using gestures it can be a pain to use any buttons in that area.

I noticed this too, I thought my screen is faulty. Single touch is fine, but touch and hold doesn't work all the time. It's frustrating.

Sorry when I commented back then, I hadn't received my 8T yet. Hiding navigation bar doesn't work on Android 11 yet, so Vivid NG can't hide the nav bar now.
I used navigation gestures for awhile...many months ago. In my opinion it is like so many other "changes" on phones...zero bezels (stupid), no headphone jack (stupid), and many others...and I feel that navigation gestures are stupid also because they never seem to work the way people want them to work!!!! What is wrong with the 3 button navigation that just simply works? I went back to this method several weeks/months ago and never missed the gestures because the buttons ALWAYS work the way you expect them to work...so simple. SMH
