I am very much a noob. Hope this is in the right thread. Just want to say thank you to the developers of:
[ROM][4.3.1] Slimbean With Halo Unofficial build 2.0[10/24/2013][Houstonn's Adreno Kernel]
It flashed so smoothly it was incredible. It is the only custom ROM that my E970 will run properly. Most of the others would not even flash, stuck in boot loop or soft brick, camera not working, no WiFi, etc. My phone was shutting down on it's own and I could not solve the problem until I found this Rom. Now my phone does not shut down on it's own, but it performs even better than with stock and the only other custom ROM SnowLoepard that I could flash to it. On those it would do the mysterious shut down thing,
So a big thank you to Slimbean developers, you save me a lot of money not having to by new hardware. :good:

From the sounds of it you need to odin because you have soft bricked, but ask your respective developers in the droid 2 forum to be sure.
Remember to hit that thanks button!
Battery issue (minor)
I just installed CM7 on my X2 and so far I LOVE it. However, I have noticed a significant battery drain compared to the crappy Moto Blur. Any ideas, suggestions or is there a fix on the way? Thanks!
okay...my girlfriend has a nexus s4g its on ics..
whats the most stable rom/kernel combos?
ive seen alot of ics roms.. but i cant really decide on which i like best.. id like to try out all of them... but she would probably kill me if i had her phone for that long..
also i know when i unlock the bootloader it wipes everything... if i was to flash a different rom on the phone would it wipe the storage space too? or does it work like a sdcard in a normal phone when flashing a rom?
**if only my lg spectrum had this much developer support
First of all, if done properly, flashing a new rom will not disturb the contents of the memory card. As for which rom ... if she likes ICS and is used to a stock rom, then I would put Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast on her Nexus 4g. I put one of Pete's roms on my wife's phone, and she loves it. It's stable and she is not fond of change. It is however, his final Gingerbread rom ... stable, quick, very stock-like, and good on battery. Be sure to do a little reading before launching into modifying. It might save you some frustration. Good luck!
Flashing a ROM should not impact the sdcard. However, unlocking the device will wipe the sdcard if I remember correctly. The issue with the Nexus S (either 3G or 4G), is that the 16GB storage is internal...no way to remove it unfortunately. Backup everything on your computer and you'll be fine.
As far as choosing a good ROM...mine is Cyanogenmod 9 Nightlies with Matr1x 19.5 CFS kernel. The Matr1x kernel makes all the difference if you want my honest opinion...it is very, very stable and there are load of features. Many people don't like CM9 because it is not released as stable yet...but it is very stable. I've been using it for daily use since March.
Try what the people ontop said. If you still dont really trust it (even though its true facts) just copy your sd card to your computer.. done.
Now if you want to go to a custom rom. I suggest CM9 and matrix v19.5 or v20. Its one of the best mixes out there to give performance and battery.
Okay.. So I own a sprint htc evo 4g lte, the other day I was bored and unlocked it(Still S-On). I flashed an upgraded stock mod that was supposed to have a few more options and what not and that worked great. I wanted something different and I heard that AOiKP was a good rom to try so the next day I flashed that. After flashing it got stuck on the boot animation, I read that it could be the rom so I downloaded Komodo rom for S-On. This is where my problems started, After installing Komodo I got AOKP to work but this was after fighting the looping bootups and clearing my caches in the recovery to magically get it to work. I tried installing CM10 with a Full Wipe and it seems that Komodo is still there. CM10 eventually booted by doing the same process as before but it was not a fun thing to do and I have to do it again if I reboot. I just now installed team venoms viper rom and it looked like it was going to work but then started doing a boot loop all the way from power off to the end of the boot animation. ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING! Thank you!!
AND sorry I'm such a noob
So...I have had a captivate and SGS3 and have never had so much trouble with a phone. This infuse is frustrating and complicated to work with. I have blue CWM which was acquired by using Entropy's guide and the other numerous helpful tips out there. I had rootbox running which would eventually start FC'ing and acting dumb. I wiped everything the other day and flashed unofficial CM 10.2, it worked perfect then random reboots to stuck at samsung then cyanogen mod then back again. Sometimes it would randomly reboot in CWM, which has never happened to me on other phone. I feel like going back to stock and back again is the only answer, but it seems like a lot of work and I already did that and it was fine.
So, all you guys that understand whats going on behind that scenes, what do you think the issue is?
UPDATE: I found a video that may link this behavior to a hardware issue caused by poor design by Samsung having too many contacts that can get gunked up and causing issues.
Might be a problem with the version of the Gapps you're using. Consider changing and even going back to older versions. I found v 12/12 signed very stable on cm10.1.
If still stuck, consider Odin back to stock in download mode and flash cm9 and cm10.2 again!
I love Cyanogenmod, very much so. I downloaded the stable 10.1 build for my phone and it was mostly rock solid. When 10.2.1 come around I was pumped. I downloaded it and immediately encountered force closes out the bum. I switched back and a month later tried again. It was a slightly better experience as I realized I forgot to flash the 4.3 Gapps with my original attempt, but force closes cluttered my screen daily. I want to be able to upgrade, but the ROM just seems completely unstable for my phone. Has anyone experienced these things on their phone? Has anyone fixed these problems? Can anyone recommend the most stable and most up-to-date ROM even though stable and up-to-date rarely go hand in hand.

Look in the CM11 thread, the nightlies are pretty stable for the most part and most us using it use it as a daily driver. You MUST perform a full wipe when installing a ROM, even when moving between point releases. If not, you'll encounter problems. GApps must also be flashed after the ROM has been flashed (assuming you want to use Google)

Yeah I figured that I need to wipe everything and install the proper GApps after my first attempt at 10.2 which to my credit I did do on my second try. Is there a particular nightly release that seems more stable than the rest? To put this in more context, I travel alone from college to various other places often a bit and my college is situated in almost a black hole of service for Verizon so I tend to take reliability over cutting edge even though I very badly want the newest and greatest. I'm on spring break so I'll try the newest nightly and back up my phone. Luckily I have a ton of space on my phone so I can always have a stable back up ready to be flashed on the fly.

By their very nature, Nightlies are not considered stable in the strictest sense of the word. For most of us, they have been. But if you need reliability over cutting-edge, I'd stick with 10.2 or one of the CM11 Milestone builds (however, the RAZR HD only has one that I know of, CM11-M2).
My personal take is that given you're in an area with poor reception, choosing CM11 over CM10.2 (for example) wouldn't give you any better results over the other. Signal is signal.
My suggestion, given your circumstances and criteria, would be to stick with 10.2 but do a FULL backup via Recovery of your stock ROM (or whatever you're using instead of CyanognMod) and then do a FULL wipe of the following (and only these):
- user data
- /system partition
- /cache partition
- dalvik cache (usually found under Advanced in CWM recoveries)
Your phone will be in an unusable state after this. From here, still in Recovery, flash CM10.2 and then the appropriate GApps (make sure you choose the right one; a 4.4.2 GApps isn't suitable for a 4.3 OS) and reboot. If memory serves, CM10.2 is Android 4.3.1
If you're still having problems, you can restore your backup in Recovery or worst case, RSDLite the appropriate SBF for your phone to return to the carrier-stock ROM. But be aware if you chose the RSDLite path, you will lose everything. Basically it'll be like day-1 when you got the phone

Find the FXZ you want to flash and use RSD or House of Moto to flash it.
