I was wondering if there was a way to force screen mirror via MHL instead of using wireless miracast? Does anyone have any experience/knowledge in this field?
Thanks!

I haven't seen anything about MHL or Slimport on the droids yet. Live chat didn't have any answer on it either. just Miracast

I know that they don't, but I was wondering if MHL support was baked into something where I could try and modify it to force output. It has an mhl port, so it seems that maybe it could be software forced was my hope.

Ever since the 4.1.2 update (could be coincidence) I have not been able to use the dongle. It connects, then says "Current AllShare Cast connection will end".
I have a GT-N8013 and a GN2 SCH-I605, both not rooted.
I spent about an hour on chat with Samsung and ened up with them telling me to call tech support. It seems there are a lot of people who have this problem, but they are usually rooted and can fix it, but no answer for us non rooted people.
Any suggestions?
Works for me.
Try an reset the dongle. Clear cache of allshare app on your tablet.
And connect dongle straight to tv... bypass receiver if you are using one.

Are you running the newest ME29 Dongle Firmware? Have you downloaded the AllShare Cast App?
Plugging straight into the tv worked. Never thought of that

Me29 firmware is responsible for this.

If you've tried it, and it fails, then the receiver isn't HDCP-compliant, so no unfortunately. The ME29 firmware seems to have helped more folks than it hurt, though- as now I can use the ASCD even with a custom kernel (as long as I roll back the Bootloader), as I guess they're doing more DRM checks at the HDMI port instead of inside the ASC SW in the GNote.
ok, thanks. I am glad the eBay seller takes returns . Picked up a roku 2 Hd for $35 on eBay. Sounds like it will work better for my needs.

Hey all new to HTC and wondering about this phone and HDMI out.. It seems that there is a or was a special cable with the m7.. Does that same cable work?
Thanks

is the special cable an MHL cable or something htc specific?

Well, this is from the specs:
HTC Connect Micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port with mobile high- definition video link (MHL) for USB or HDMI connection (Special cable required for HDMI connection.)
I just bought a MHL cable from Amazon and I'll just try it if no one else has yet. Worse case I return it.

I use a standard MHL adapter (non-HTC) and it works just fine. Here is the one I use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875994879
As I said...Works perfectly fine with my M8.
any idea if my Samsung one will work?
(don't have a HDMI screen or TV to test it)
Is it possible to use the hdmi out and connect a usb peripheral? I have a bunch of lapdocks laying around and it would be cool to be able to use them with this phone with a couple adapters.
Lack of replies make me think this isnt possible.
Yes. With the right mhl adaptor it is entirely possible.
As far as controlling them with the lapdocks.... No. We dont have the software needed. You should still be able to display to them though.

I think the mouse and keyboard on the lapdock is just usb. So as long as i can get it all wired right I think it should work. Any idea what the right MHL adapter is?
I wouldn't risk it tbh. You would have to splice and dice. If i remember correctly, the laptops are made for a dual connection, ie. HDMI and USB at the same time. I'm not sure that this phone is capable of that, seeing as the USB and mhl have to go into the same place.
I think I remember seeing someone trying this before and it failed.
Just about and HDMI adapter on amazon should work. The one I got years ago cost me maybe $8 with shipping.

Why is that relevant? This thread is in a Verizon HTC One M8 forum . . . And the M8 uses MHL.

sorry thought this was on the g2 q&a my bad
Using a Samsung micro USB - HDMI worked fine for me using the GPE rom. I was able to have my screen display on my TV with no issues. I was hoping to use this to stream FIOS Mobile to a Hotel TV. Unfortunately, when FIOS Mobile sees an HDMI connection, it won't stream
You do need to power this connection. If not, you'll get nothing. This is the cable I used...
So maybe my original post wasnt clear? I know we can get hdmi out of the usb port. What i wanted to know is if there is an adapter that allows you do hdmi out AND connect a usb mouse or keyboard at the same time. On the samsung s4 or s5 or one of them, there was a media dock that allowed this. Not sure if the hardware is here on the m8 to do something similar.
EDIT: This thing: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
I think samsung uses a proprietary 11pin mhl to do what im talking about. Pretty sure the m8 just has the normal mhl, 5 pin or whatever so this isnt possible. If anyone knows different let me know. I sure wish this phone had a dedicated micro hdmi port.
Can anyone check to see if their A9 supports HDMI MHL output?
it doesn't work on my a9=(

I'm going to reanimate this thread. I've tried at least one MHL adapter and had no success on the A9.
Has anyone else tried lately?
they said it support mhl! http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_a9-review-1331p3.php

Hmm. The question is, did they actually try it and not just quote specs.
Just for the heck of it, I borrowed an mhl from a friend and plugged it in. No dice. ?

I don't think there was an OTG adapter included. Are you trying to use the Smart Switch adapter?

Yes I am it works with my ps3 controller so I assumed it was a otg adapter
I guess it could function as one. It never occured to me. I'll have to try it with my OBDII adapter.
