Hey everyone here's the dilemma:
I dropped my Nexus 4 on my gravel driveway at four in the morning and then proceeded to back over it with my dump truck... The screen is completely destroyed, the glass, the display behind it, amazingly the back glass didn't break but that's neither here nor there. The phone still works, notification light is blinking, bluetooth connects to my car stereo right away and plays what is in the playlist, alarm goes off at 3am but the only way to get it to stop is by doing a hard reset (power button for 10 sec). When I connect it to my computer it shows up no problem but since I have a pattern lock obviously nothing is visible. I would like to retrieve some pictures, files, etc. How can I do this?
Try this to remove your pattern

I've been running into an odd glitch with the lock screen every now and then. The visuals on the lockscreen are shifted up halfway, and the bottom half is black.
If that doesn't make sense(ha ha, pun), the ring pull is in the center of the screen, and the top half is pushed off the screen.
The touch spots for the icons and ring are still at the bottom, however. So I need to press in the blackness below and slide from there. Everything animates properly, but it's rather clearly not right. Plus, anything I have set to display on the screen (weather, clock, etc) isn't visible and so kinda useless. Changing lockscreen types doesn't seem to clear it, I have to do a restart.
Anyone else run into this before? I'm willing to bet a factory reset cleans this up, but I'd like to leave that as a last ditch effort.
I would suggest resetting the device back to factory. At least all of your apps would re-sync to the phone.

I was changing ringtones today and the display went off because I stopped for a second. I went to turn it back on and the lock screen had the lock at mid screen and wouldn't unlock. Had to pull the battery.

Even tho the ring appears in the middle, you can unlock it just like its at the bottom and it will unlock. Mine has done simular where there bottom half is just black.
Yes this happens to me too sometimes. not often though. Once i restart the phone it goes back to normal. not a big issue for me.
I have tried lots of different screen lock apps, but none of them does what I want to. Just today I was out checking my lobster pots, and I got a business call on my bluetooth headset. The damned idiotic thing is that when that happens, the screen will actually turn on and show the caller info stuff. And of course in my rain gear pocket it manages to press the buttons, so the call is suddenly on speaker phone instead of BT. Almost lost a contract on that one... Put it back into my pocket, and another call without incident. But when the call is finished, the screen is unlocked, so it starts pressing lots of buttons. I almost sent an SMS to a contractor with "umumumumumumumumum" for four lines! So I need a screen lock that actually locks the screen. Preferably so I have to press for instance power and then a combination of buttons to unlock it. All the apps I have tried have some idiotic slide menu that wants to show me my music player, change theme or something like that. And the built-in screen lock has had me call the Norwegian version of 911 from my pocket several times before I gave that one up. SO can anybody please tell me about a screen lock app that ACTUALLY LOCKS THE BLOODY SCREEN? (Sorry for shouting, I'm quite annoyed...)
At work yesterday my phone was fine..I pulled it out of my pocket during a break and the screen wouldn't turn on..then I noticed the backlight was on and I can feel the screen vibrate when I hit where the home button should be but no picture. I am able to hear notifications and use my moto360 to make phone calls etc but no picture just a black screen and backlight is on.. Using my nexus 5 currently but wondering if anyone else has experienced this..T-Mobile said they would replace it under warranty.

Hello.
I have the exact same issue, I got a phone with a broken screen, it only had black backlight, then I changed the screen with a new one and still the same thing happens. Tried with two screens.
After replacing the screen I repaired the software via Sony PC companion, but it didn't work.
Does anyone know what the issue is here? Is it a dead motherboard or something else? Just so that I know to stop trying to fix it.
My unit isn't under warranty anymore because it had physical damage so replacing it via Sony is a no go.
The phone boots fine, I get audio reading of menu options for the initial setup, even the touch works, I can select options but I have no image, only the backlight.
Hi community!
Today I took my (rooted)Z3 to the pool to do some pictures and videos. Before I put it in the water, I tested the pressure sensor in the air with *#*#SERVICE#"#" and the pressure increased and sinked after a short time while the flaps are closed. Then I tested it in the water and it worked too. I took the phone in the water for ~2 minutes and then out for ~1.5 minutes (to watch the photos) about 5 times. I noticed that the touchscreen didn't react good and took it out. The front and back camera got water steam inside. Then on the lockscreen the brightness increased and decreased a lot (flickering), I tried to shut it down, but it didn't react. It shut itself down after 5 minutes.
After some hours with cleaning out the water inside with sucking and blowing with a hair dryer :
By holding on the power button, the phone vibrates once, then 3 times and does nothing. It vibrates 3 times every minute.
If I put it in the charger/pc, it vibrates 3 times, the LED Red, then green lights up and goes out. This repeats always.
Holding volume up/down;power button, the pc sees it, but the phone cancels the connection instantly. This repeats too.... which means I can't access to the filesystem to do a factory reset/removing root...
Can you guys help or is there a chance, that sony's support can help? I fear that they won't take it back and leave me sit with a 500 swiss franc brick
========================= Solved =========================
My rooted, waterdamaged phone got replaced with a completely new one, which means i got the TA Partition intact. Sony probably couldn't access anything on the Z3 because the Screen was completely gone (Not showing anything and not reacting to touch), USB-Debugging off and it had a Lockscreen lock.
The same happened to my device, had the odd vibrating issue also, luckily I was insured on my device.
Ok guys, after heating the water out of my phone, it starts normally with sound, but without screen, so I cant unlock my Z3. How can I now get my files out of it?
Can you view your files when
Connecting to the pc? Or you can use adb pull method

When i plug it in the pc, it recognizes the device, but i can't see the files because it has a lockscreen lock. I didn't try the ADB Method, is there a topic here?

No it's off...
Hmm it is tough then. Is there no display or can touch without seeing anything? The last method i can see is too flash system and data only from fastboot. That way the lockscreen can be removed and the files in sdcard can be viewed in the computer. And how come your z3 is rooted with usb debugging off. Always keep it to avoid these

There's no display and it doesn't react to touching, but sound works fine. Are there instructions for your suggestion?

Got it replaced :/ Thanks anyway!
just connect your bluetooth mouse with usb otg cable and use the mouse instaed of the touchscreen... if the display is totally gone then its not possible to backup data from internal storage.
OP, did you get it replaced under warranty despite the root and water damage?

Yeah, probably because they couldn't access anything on it.
My wife and I got a couple pixels back on black Friday, they've both been great. My wife switched from Apple so she enjoys pointing out all the things she doesn't like. She recently found one thing I can't explain. This works on both of our phones.
1. Phone locked, screen off
2. Press power button on side of phone. Phone goes to PIN unlock screen.
3. Try (unsuccessfully) to unlock using fingerprint scanner with an indirect finger. Use you pinky or whatever finger isn't loaded in your system yet
4. Message appears saying you've failed too many times, try again later
5. Swipe screen up.
6. Phone unlocks. Without ever entering your PIN!
Can anybody else repeat this? Google support chat is no help. I was told that if a factory reset doesn't solve the problem I would have to send the phones in for replacements.
Maybe you have smart unlock set up?
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Mine doesn't do that. Swipe up after failing fingerprint gets me to PIN.
Smart lock
I have smart lock set to keep my phone unlocked at home, in my wife's car and when I have a set of ear buds connected. Neither of those three were near or connected when I tested this thoroughly last night at dinner and this morning at work
Mine doesn't do that. I have smart lock for my blue tooth devices.
My pixel does not do this,I get asked for my pin
Nope, I can't recreate this without smart lock being on. What happens if you just press the power button and then swipe up?
If you do your test in your home, it's normal to stay unlocked since you are in SAFE UNLOCK in your house.
