[DISCUSSION] Android 4.4 a maybe big step for our phone! - Galaxy Ace II General

Hey guys,
this is a discussion to talk about the newest Android os 4.4 ( Kitkat ).
Why could this version of Android be a big step for our phone?
Because it's made to run on low end devices with 512mb of ram or more ( Ace II has 768mb ).
Android 4.4 Kitkat has also many performance improvements.
Link for all new feature of Android 4.4: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html
and http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/ .

Eheh better cm11 ^_^

i'm waiting AOSP Android 4.4

Irony, it's made to run on low end devices with 512 ram, but Samsung Nexus won't be updated to 4.4. ( HD display, 1GB Ram, Dual Core)
I hope one day we will get CM10.3 / CM11? by TeamCanjica.

I really hope this comes to the Ace II. I've tried various roms and most work to a good degree but still have problems which I don't care about but my girl wants a phone that just works so an official release would be good but anything that works is nice. Hoping to see some rapid progress on this one, I know their are plenty of excited devs to make it happen

Who knows, maybe, i hope so. But knowing that our phone can not support properly JB ( maybe samsung developers didnt make it right) it will be difficult to make it work. Maybe our XDA developers will be able to make it for Ace 2. i hope soon.

Lots of people seem to think it's coming to the Ace but I think that's optimistic, looks like it wont run it even if it is designed for better performance with less resources. Nothing on the Dev forums about 4.4 at the moment but I've no doubt they'll do it. 'tis a bit early yet

CM will be faster than stock 4.4. AOSP will be faster than CM. It's true.

some devices wont be supported by official updates because of marketing. They will force u to buy new phones. We have devs to that job on our part

Yeah ofc we can get it only with cm
Btw new launcher ^^

We are not in a rush to get 4.4 builds out . We are going to continue the process of working on CM 10.2 M1 - getting that out the door and onto your devices. Further, we will 'finish' the 10.2 code base, similar to what we did with 10.1.

Seem some posts from Rox talking about 4.4 and where he wants to go with his development. He's for sure looking into it, I'm hoping he gets the CM10.2 rom stable before he moves on. Not everyone wants to flash new builds all the time.

The KItKat would be great for mod development AND its suitable for low ram device, but i disappointed nexus don't get update....:crying:

AOSP wolud be great. Fast as Nexus, minimal features. But it's hard to port.

[project] [rom] First jelly bean custom rom for Samsung galaxy ace plus GT-S7500

This is project started to discuss about first jelly bean rom for Samsung galaxy ace plus gt-s7500..
As it is confirmed that galaxy ace plus will be getting jelly bean 4.1 upgrade...
This project will be started as soon as jelly bean upgrade is officially released for galaxy ace plus...
I started this thread so early to discuss about how users want that rom to be... So that I can start preparing for it from now and learn if I don't know about something...
So please everyone post your suggestions...
Also i was thinking to make a team or something for this project...
So if anyone knows any development things and wants to be part of the team then please comment below...
Even i am not a good developer so it doesn't need you to be really a great developer... All I need is that person has basic knowledge like modifying rom, editing apk files and other things too...
I don't have Linux system and don't have any experience in kernel development so we need a Kernel developer too...
If anyone wants cynogenmod and has Ubuntu than try this tool by lithid-cm called CyanogenMod Compiler

I am not too skilled to port or make cm10 from starch... All I can do now is modify stock rom and make it work much better than stock rom...

I love you bro.
1st.
If that's the case, first you should change the stock apps. (There's a list of stock apps that can be deleted without hurting your phone.
2nd.
You should add many scripts that can boost our phone to maximum speed. Like on your ROM (Ofcourse it needs init.d support).
3rd.
While learning about modding, try to learn how to port CM10. Since we'll be having Jelly Bean, there will be alot of Devs that know how to port it. Try asking them. (We also have Blackburner)
These are all suggestions, just tell me if you don't like it, I'll continue to add suggestions.
I personally like the GO Keyboard, GO Launcher, GO Locker, Quickpic (Gallery), and Handcent SMS (Messaging). (Many more though)
Sent from my GT-S7500
I love you too... LOL
Init.d support is must... About porting that I am currently learning even thou I don't have my computer...
And I was thinking of adding aroma installer so that everyone can choose between stock apps and other apps...
I can't do all alone and it seems that no one here is willing to participate...

I want to help you but I don't know anything about modding. Sorry.
The only thing I can do for the time being is gather all developers for Ace Plus.
thanks for the support
i myself tried to modify some roms with disastrous results as i pretty much was not sure of anything myself
i decided it was better to leave these type of things to experienced developers
thank you for continued support for our phones
things i would like in a custom rom for jelly bean
1 touchwiz 5.0 if you can
2 some speed enhancement tweaks
thank you :good:
Maybe it would be easier to port touchwiz5 when we get jb upgrade... I will try that...

Can the DSIXDA kitchen be used on those jelly bean roms to add some tweaks? Also, once we have the JB, it will be one thousand times easier to port Cyanogen 10 using, maybe, the galaxy nexus sources.
Enviado do meu ace plus usando atomic rom com Tapatalk 2 e SwiftKey keyboard U.U
ETA - estimated or expected time of arrival:good:
Maybe kitchen supports jb... As it supports our device in gb... Let's leave cm development to experts because I have no idea how to do that...
If anyone wants to try then search for a guide... I am sure I saw one somewhere...
All guides are for Linux system so if you anyone have Linux system i.e. Ubuntu try a tool by lithid-cm called CyanogenMod Compiler or CMC.

I'm not so sure about that. Correct me if I'm wrong but JB is easier to port, and more stable than ICS on most phones. I don't know if JB is easier to port than GB, though.
Either way, most people seem to have moved on. Support will diminish rapidly, if it already hasn't. It's sad.

may we fight for any future android os but fact is that till kernel 3.4x and open source driver for fimg 3dSE project doesn't get completed our phone will be incomplete as this two are vvvvvvvvvvv.imp projects for Samsung galaxy 3 i5800/i5800 .
Our Phone was incomplete the moment we were told that we wouldnt get official Gingerbread..
lets face it, if marcellusbe stops developing, this phone is screwed.....
There are some other Rubens , Sad , hillbeast, kyrillos13, Michał12 , tom3q and team ...... but i think The Samsung G3 Apollo i5800 Forum ..... Is becoming like Nintendo ....
Please Devs Give Us ... the 4.2 AOSP or Aokp and we will not bordering you any more ....
I agree there are others, and their work is valuable, Hillbeast just said he may make another Froyo rom, kyrillos13 just updated his, but things are a lot different from how it was a year ago, people move on and new phones are released, the g3 is a good little phone, jb worked so much better than I thought, but its at the end of its development life.
I have apps that will only run on gb, and other apps that will not run well because of the lack of memory, while my wife had a galaxy mini, and it runs gb without a problem, official upgrade

Jellybean 4.2 doesn't even work on the Galaxy S2 because Google have locked down the way the system controls graphics to stop Samsung releasing terrible old broken drivers and libraries. If the Exynos 4 isn't going to play nice, I wouldn't be expecting the S5P6442 in our little G3 would either. Don't hold your hopes up.

Hahaha... Nintendo.. Nice one..
i think we are expecting too much from dev if you also want to run 4.2 please guy be practical enuf as only too android os that should be complete are gb and jellybean as this are only two project were dev are able to run most of thing running so keep your finger cross and wait and watch or help dev at least to finish pending project even if u get latest wat use of that if your not get complete experience of it
Mhmm. As the others said, its all or nothing. Its a bit... Impractical to ask devs for a 4.2 release purely because a phone can only be taken so far in terms of OS. No doubt 4.2, while being an incremental update to 4.1.2, changed quite a bit about Jelly Bean. And if Google really has locked down on graphics control in 4.2, then the G3 will have a hard time...
Maybe things will change and a 4.2 update will come through for the Galaxy 3. But until then... Don't get your hopes up too high.

Android 4.4 rom?

Hello,
I saw that Android 4.4 finally should run good on devices, specially devices with low memory like the HTC Sensation 4G.
I wonder if there is already an android 4.4 rom that works with the htc sensation.
I don't need HTC Sense or anything

Where does it say that android 4.4 requires a 3.8 kernel?
since they are heavily pushing the fact that it runs on everything down to phones with 512mb ram i don't think they'd place that heavy a requirement on it.
My nexus 7 only has a 3.1 kernel and that'll definitely be getting the upgrade straight from google.

Source on that confirmation?
I highly doubt it won't run on anything lower than 3.8, I know Google has been 'working with' a 3.8 kernel but it should be able to be ported to a lower version I think.
Only thing to worry about would be it relying on having ion implemented, then our camera won't work.

This is a new version of Android, of course someone will get it to run. Just because we don't have it now, doesn't mean we will ever have it. With the current Linux version that we use for AOSP dead, someone is bound to be working on getting 3.4 or 3.8 running on the Sensation.

While 4.4 has been released on the Nexus 5, it will take some time before it's available on other devices, let alone lower end devices.
Rather than asking about a 4.4 ROM, just try being patient until it arrives
Questions always belong in the Q&A forum though, definitely not in development. Please remember that in future.

KitKat will scale auto to fit on the devices of 512 of RAM Devs can u make it fit us?

Android 4.4 KitKat has been officially announced and as usual, the latest version of the Android OS debuts alongside the a new Nexus, the Nexus 5 and it will scale automatically to fit on the devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM.
Google aims to make Android accessible to everyone, even people with low-end hardware. In the past, due to the memory constraints, some lower-end smartphones couldn't get a taste of the newer Android versions, but with KitKat that's about to change. Android 4.4 KitKat removes unnecessary background services and reduces the memory consumption to a large extent, which now allows the OS to run smoothly even on devices with 512MB RAM.
So I am requesting to Dev please Leave JB and make a last work for our O1 one last stable seedy Rom as a tribute to a device which is one of most beloved device of android family currently i am using xperia Z but still i have my old O1 (no one buy old android) it reminds me how much i play wid it in college time..

And where is this official list? That picture in the posts above is just nothing. The fact that they considering update this doesn't means that we will get it. Even on sammobile.com they say this:
"However, just because Samsung is considering the update doesn’t mean the updates will actually come – the Galaxy S4 mini is one device that is most likely to get the update, but for the other devices on that list, there might not be much hope, if only because Samsung’s heavy and bloated TouchWiz skin might negate the work Google has done on reducing the memory consumption on Android 4.4 KitKat."
So no more updates for ACE2. That's the big bold fact.

my hope was gone when jellybean came out so late
I trust in Samsung no more... Howevwr. we have kitkat-based CM 11, so we don't really need official release!..

...but does it matter now Rox and others are making CM11?
To be honest - if KitKat on Ace 2 will ever be released and will be full of bloatware, such as JB, then I prefer unofficial CM releases. At least they're smooth and very fast and they don't kick off the launcher from memory as JB did, when I tried to go back from any app.

I dont think samsung will spend time on ace 2 anymore
It is already 1,5 year old phone... There are many new models to care about.

+1
additionally Samsung original firmwares are very unwieldy. I don't think so new original firmware fast, reliable and useful. Cause Samsung accomplish the break 4.4 KitKat fast and reliable key points.

Yes but then we have more 4.4 blobs for custom rom and maybe kernel source 3.4.X. I don't believe, but if samsung release kitkat for Ace 2, we have some benefits from it.
I hope one day samsung release stable jb 4.1.2 like old 2.3.
MG2 is good, but it's not stable like GB. (freezes, UI lag, games lags).
i wish someone could make fully working AOKP 4.4 for my Ace II

I'm having a quick dabble with Rox's CM11, it seems pretty darn smooth on first impressions. However I need my camera so I'll go back to 10.2 for now, great work though

Even if samsung release any JB update (up to 4.2.x 4.3.x) or even a kitkat after having such messed up 4.1.2 I am not going to use them (well maybe as a base for further flashing). At this momment, custom roms are only option here. Luckilly, we have some skilled rom builders here so we should be fine for now

Hey, KitKat is built specially for low-end devices, so it would definitely be faster...
