It seems to support voice commands, but will it work from sleeping mode?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have read so many posts about this thing so I can't remember the source. What I did see was a screen shot about having to be at your Home Screen or in Google Now before the voice activation works. Going only on this it would appear that the X still has a advantage with touchless control.
The Nexus 5 page says you have to be on the home screen.

Indeed it does say "When on your home screen" but it DOESN'T say it won't work from sleep mode, or?
I'm not sure how accurate it is, but:
http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/31/...-google-now-and-speech-recognition/in/4615569
"Speech recognition is receiving some upgrades as well. With the update you'll be able to wake up your Nexus 5 and search just by saying "OK, Google," like on the Moto X. "

I'm hoping as people in the US begin to get their Nexus 5, they will be able to confirm this 100%. Currently it seems that the Nexus 5 does NOT get woken up like the Moto X - "Ok Google" only works with a NON-Secure/Slide Lockscreen and ONLY on the Homescreen/Google Now.
Hoping we are all wrong
I have mine (UK - Carphone Warehouse purchased this morning) and OK Google does nothing at all whether on the lock screen, sleep or home screen.
Sad.

+Ryan Yakus Google Now has a dedicated home screen (one swipe to the left). The Nexus 5 also listens for you to say "OK Google Now."
(A caveat on that "always listening" thing -- that feature is disabled if you have lock screen security enabled and you have to unlock the phone before it will listen for your voice.)

When my nexus boots up, it has a lockscreen. The moment I get a notification (email, voice mail, etc) my lockscreen disappears and never reappears when I turn my screen on until I reset the whole phone. I have screen lock slide selected under the security section. Anyone have ideas?

Did you load a custom ROM onto it?

Nope. It happens on my stock nexus I've noticed in logcat it says "no lock screen! Windowtoken=null"

Did you find a solution to this? I'm not using Nova launcher and having the same. Posted here what I'm experiencing, plus some adb logcat output:

Yup! I found out why it was happening but it wasn't the developers fault Mods can closed/delete this thread!

I posted above in my thread what I was doing wrong: I messed myself up! I have the No Lock app it turns out that it was somehow set so locking was disabled. Re-enabling locking fixed this problem and solved my hours of wasted time.
Is there a app that doesn't lock the screen when the display turns off, I find it a bit annoying on android to turn on the phone, on symbian I just had to press any key to turn on the display without unlocking it, and lock it only using the lock key.
I prefer a app like LG G2's Knock On.

theres a kernel here what does what you want ,well i think it does
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565299
I don't want to upgrade to a CFW now. I prefer enjoying rhe phone on stock than to deal with minor hindrances which ruin the experience on a CFW, like the camera bug mentioned in the thread you quoted to.
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk
You're out of luck then unfortunately, custom kernel is the only thing that offers it right now.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Such a basic thing that symbian had but android doesn't, I am disappointed with Google.

Just go to settings and set lock screen to none.

Thanks for the apps but with both the apps the phone gets locked after the screen turns off, I wanted a app that turns off the autolock of phone and just turns off the screen to save power. So I can press any key on the phone to see the screen without unlocking it each time.

I can press any key except the volume rockers which leaves the obvious power button and the home button will turn my screen on and with no lock screen it does what you want it to.

Ok Google only works from the home screen on 4.4.x versions of android, the moto x has a special always listening function built by moto as well a chip that has low battery usages that allows for the active listening function anytime. Its probably possible for the nexus 5 to do the same but it would drain the $h1t out of the battery.
In moto x it called the "active display".. In which the phone always listening thru its mic. If somehow our nexus 5 can have this feature would be awesome..
Sent from my Nexus 5 via XDA Premium HD
No, this is not possible as we do not have the same chipset as the Moto X.
utter! has "always listening even when screen is off" functionality (and much more).

Active Display is actually a notification feature that shows you what notifications you have while you're screen is off. It powers on your screen while you're phone is locked to show you notifications periodically. This feature was developed for the amoled screen that the moto x has since that type of display can light up individual pixels and not the whole screen to save battery. But active display has been ported by a few different custom roms now like Omni.

Without installing an App with the "always listening" feature it is not possible.
There are Apps for that.
Open Mic+ is a good one. Use it myself.

first off, it being your first post, ill be nice. questions/help/troubleshooting does not go in general, it goes in the q&a/help/troubleshooting section. secondly, you should have searched xda before posting another thread, as we already have many threads about this. here is one that we have been using mainly, for this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/normal-google-play-services-to-drain-20-t2519831

if you disabled those that are shown in a screenshot, did you reboot first? if not, try again. then let the phone sit there for like 10 minutes, then check.
btw, i do agree with you about some of the meanness that goes on in xda. im not like that, i enjoy helping people too much. and the nexus 5 forums here also, it isnt as bad like the rest of xda. there are many here like me, that actually keep an eye on the forums, to make sure that meanness doesnt go on

I would like my phone to function like it should yes lol. I tried to reboot after disabling the ones with location and rebooted and waiting 10 minutes but Google play services time awake is still rising and has been awake for pretty much the whole batter cycle. Could greenify be causing such issues?

The screen standby app sort of works for me ... enough for me to keep using it at least.... basically on my nexus 5 the normal screen off method doesn't work I have to use the one two dim method and the screen stays off for good
So currently i have it setup like this :
Auto HDMI detection > starts timer when i plug slimport in
lasts about 10-15 seconds ( enough time for me to setup my app etc )
screen turns off
