Hello everyone.
My note 10.1 came with 5 replacement tips and a tip extraction tool. My note 8.0 came with none of these and, in fact, I am not sure that its S-pen tip can be replaced at all.
So, my questions are:
1) Will the note 8.0 s-pen tip wear as fast as the note 10.1 one did?
2) Can the note 8.0 S-pen tip be replaced?
3) Where can I find spare tips?
Thanks in advance

can't replace the nibs on the 8. you can buy an better pen though or use the pen from the gn10.1.

Yeah, noticed that with my new Note 8...silly of Samsung not to have a pen with replaceable tips. Unless they think the tip is everlasting!
the note phones are the same way. seems anything under 10.1" gets the non-replaceable nibs.
Hope s-pen is easyly replaceable, trying to get me another that is exactly for note 8.0 and fits. My s-pen tip is already showing signs of overuse.

i think you can get them for $20 from amazon.
Thanks everyone for the quick replies.
In fact, my Note 10.1 s-pen came with 2 types of nib: a soft one, which is excellent for hand writing and provides me with a great paper like feeling (but wears out quite fast) and a hard one, which is not so good but should last longer.
It is sad to know that with Note 8.0 I don't have such choice.
I know that I can still buy a spare stylus, and even a better one compared to the one that came in the box, but in that case I loose the obvious benefits of s-pen integration with system.

i'd supposed if you're skilled and brave enough you could buy 2 spare pens and swap the insides of the gn10.1 pen with the gn8. you might be able to find older gn10.1 pens cheaper since that model's been replaced.
This looks like what we need. Brown as I didn't want white for my brown GN8. I just ordered two. With shipping $18.
Use CELL6 for discount.
The tips on my Note 3 are replacable and it came with replacemebts and the tool.
The strange thing is mt Note 3 pen won't work on my Note 8, very strange as the Note 8 pen will work onthe N3

Has anyone used the S-Pen w/ eraser with the Note 8? What are your experiences w/ it? If no one has...I guess I don't mind being the first to try it out.
If someone out there has, please provide a link to where you got it? I read somewhere on amazon that the one amazon is selling just dies on the Note 8 and becomes dysfunctional.
Yes, the s-pen that is specced for the note 10.1 which is the 8pi width does work, and the eraser works too.
If you use 8pi in your search it should come up more easily in searches. Ignore that it says for 10.1 only...it works.

We can get the pen in the local electronic store Mediamarkt.
Or from some web shops http://geizhals.de/samsung-et-s200-stylus-a800120.html
The only web shop that delivers outside the EU is this one:
http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/products/90494136/samsung-et-s200-s-pen.asp
Someone wrote about an offset by about 5 pixel when using the "eraser" stylus, which apparently is quite a bit while drawing thin lines...
Is that Your experience aswell?
Thanks in advance,
Yoko
This works fine, especially liking the rubberized nib to give a bit of friction when drawing. I used it with painting with Adobe Touch:

I cant see the picture as im at work. will check it out tonight at home...
I've heard it both ways now then. A few people saying there is an offset which they have corrected for in software. Is this what you had done? Are you saying that there was no offset at all? Or was there an offset but it didnt effect your painting style as you got used to it?
There is an offset on my girlfriend original Note which I could get used to until i changed the orientation of the screen. Then it would completely throw me again. I was hoping this wouldnt be the case on the 8.0 with the 8pi.
I can see my self switching out the nib for the rubberized one as I like a bit of feed back.
Is the nib on the pen supplied changable?

There is no noticeable offset of the S Pen. I haven't experienced any difficulty. Here's my initial test with a demo unit:

Yes, the rubberized tip is supplied along with extras of the plastic one and with the pinch grab tool for the changing. Here is the retail content of the S Pen:

I'm the one who noticed an offset and corrects for it in Lecture Notes. Testing it in S Note, if you use the pen 90 degrees to the tablet, there is no offset. The offset appears to be related to how much of an angle you write with. Just received another pen, ( wacom bamboo feel) and I'm seeing the same behavior. Possibly worse in the Wacom pen, but it's too early to judge.

I believe the offset from the Bamboo Feel is due to the sensor being located at the base of the pen rather than in the nib. A longer nib will create a larger offset. You can try and remedy this by trimming the nib slightly so it sits closer to the base (just make sure it's still long enough to remove!). The S-Pen with eraser seems to be using the same sort of nibs as the Wacom pen, but I can't say for sure.

That's interesting and makes a lot of sense. The Bamboo Feel does have a slightly longer nib and does appear to have a little more of an offset. (I have set Lecture Notes to correct it by 10 pixels in both vertical and horizontal at the moment, vs the 5 pixels I have set for the 8pi in the vertical only. I need to try it over several days to confirm this setting, it may be slightly more or less in the end. )
I don't know if the materials of the two pen nibs are the same, but the nib from the 8pi is too short to use in the Wacom Bamboo Feel. I tried it and it was barely sticking out of the Bamboo pen. In fact it is so much shorter that you cannot remove it using the tools provided with either pen or a tweezer. I had to use a needle to get the nib back out. But shortening the Bamboo Feel nib to somewhere between the length of the 8pi nib and the Bamboo Feel nib would probably work. I'm not going to try that though since Lecture Notes compensates anyway.

So I found this on amazon- it's essentially a hollowed out "pen", where you toss the S-Pen into..though there's no eraser.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0076Z3GMG/ref=gno_cart_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Those who do have the one w/ the eraser, can you guys give me a link on amazon or ebay to the product you bought? I found multiple ones...I'm pretty they're all the same but I remember seeing one where one of the reviewers said it wasn't compatible w/ the note 8 and I don't wanna spend $30 for a useless pen.
Thanks for everyone's replies!

SInce this link you quoted uses the actual S-Pen, I'd say that's not a problem. Also I have the larger S-Pen with the eraser from Samsung and it works the same on both my Note 2 and Note 8 with no offset.
The HP stylus that was for my Elitebook tablet works but with an offset.

Thats ok then. I had it in my head that the spens that were provided in the Note II, the 10.1 and the 8.0 were all slightly different in size and shape. The pen in my girlfriends Note seems smaller than the one provided with the 8.0 i tried instore. I didn't have her phone with me though to check.
Looks the offset is caused by writing / drawing angle. If you use the pen close to 90 degrees you wont notice any issues but as you increase the angle you increase the offset as the sensor isnt picking up the tip of the pen, rather further up.
Lol, I still can't decide if I want the stylus holder or the S-Pen w/ eraser. What do you think guys?
I ended up buying one, will definitely share my experiences with it when I have the time!

Didn't se eyour post but I had bought it separately from Amazon. The feel of the S Pen that came with Note 8 was far more superior. The one at Amazon hada sharper and harsher feel... I returned that one. Looks like that was really made when Tabs came out.
I will bite if a new one comes up which could fit the Note 8 S Pen.

That is correct, theone quoted is a set comes with a slightly different size pen.
But has no eraser and a bit inferior feel (IMHO only) on the screen.
I love the S-pen with eraser, although the pressure sensitivity isn't as good as the one that comes with the tablet. It still works perfectly for my needs and very convenient.
I'm supposed to be thrilled by this tablet, in fact I still am (not with mine). A family member traveled to U.S and I ordered a White Note 10.1 and my auncle told me it didn't came with the S Pen which instantly put me in a sad mood all day. I can't find not even 1 site in my country that is selling the spen for the Note 10.1. The main reason I bought this tablet was because I wanted to have the S pen function.. I still does not have the tablet, mostly I'll be getting it tomorrow since they are arriving today, and tomorrow in my city.. I wanted to know just in case if The S Pen of the Galaxy notes 1 and 2 (phones) works good on the tablet? I'm not even excited anymore.. :crying:
I'm just hoping they didn't realize the S pen comes inside the tablet, even tho it's explained in an image in the back of the tablet..
thats very odd, did your uncle buy a 2nd hand tablet thats missing a pen? anyway im sure you can buy an S-pen on ebay, or buy the s-pen from international websites.
also i dont think the pen for note 1 and 2 will work.

Are you sure you bought the Galaxy Note 10.1? Because there's no Galaxy Note 10.1 being sold without the S-Pen. So in my point of view maybe you mistook and bought something like Galaxy Tab (2 or 10.1), such there's no S-Pen coming on those.
If you ordered a Galaxy Note 10.1 from amazon and you received a different one, you can challenge them to be refunded or to change it to the correct ordered product.
Also, FYI, the S-Pen won't work on Galaxy Tab series, it only works on Galaxy Note series because there's an active detection panel on the capacitive screen which locates the S-Pen indication/touch (If you bring the S-Pen closer than 3mm the panel locates the S-Pen approximation without touching it on the screen). And this panel is only present on Galaxy Note Series

Yes I ordered the Galaxy Note 10.1, I know the concept and all, he sent me a picture and it is the note.., but it seems the s pen is missing somehow didn't came in the tablet (maybe problem of furbished or idk), it's brand new, I'm about to receive it.. I hope everything is fine..
So.. I just receive the Galaxy note 10.1 and.. It has the Spen inside My auncle told me he had no idea it was there cause he actually open the box and putted right on the leather case backwards (wrong side) so he couldnt see the S pen lol. I love it! My only question is about the Spen, is normal to push it into the screen to actually use it? I feel its not like feeling the touch like my finger which is very smooth
Great to hear that you got the full package. enjoy!
"Push it into the screen"... did you mean you have to write hard? the tip the S Pen comes with (black tip) is a relatively soft one. if you want smoother feeling you can change to the white tip, which is harder. Personally I feel that the white one is too smooth...
Also, some screen protector make the S Pen black tip hard to use. I used to have an anti-glare screen protector on my note 10.1 and it doesn't feel good to write on with black tip.

Yeah sorry if u didnt understand, sometimes is hard for me to explain some things cause my main language is spanish
Well I feel like I have to push the spen hard in the screen for it to write which I dont really like lol I thougut its supposed to touch the screen and works just like your fingers.. and that kinda bothers me.. how can I change that you are saying. I did notice it came a few black and white sticks but I have no idea how that workx? Thank you
Im not ussing any screen protector..
Use the metal ring that came with tips to pull the black tip out. Theres a little hole where the tip is gripped. Now get a white tip and insert it with the metal ring. Just make sure you insert with the rounded end out....
Cheers....

Yes I just checked that, I don't really note much difference about the black one and the white one.. Is it normal that It doesn't recognize the sensitive when it's touching the screen and not pushing it?
The screen is pressure sensitive, like with a pen, the harder you press down the more "ink" is released and the thicker the line. Even using the finger can take a bit of pressure sometimes, especially when plugged into power...
I have been going in circles trying to find a compatible pen for my Note 8. Many that claim compatibility have an offset when in use. Pens that I have tried:
Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel CS300UK from Best Buy - 2mm offset & reported by many.
On order Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel CS300UK2 - said to be compatible.
Samsung S Pen and Holder Kit. <2mm offset.
The supplied pen & a replacement Galaxy Note 8 stylus work fine with no offset.
There is a good thread at xda regarding the same issues with the Galaxy Note 10.1. I am not sure if the information pertaining to the Note 10.1 can be applied to the Note 8.
BTW The offset is present with the 4 app that I have tried.
It would be nice to see a chart of compatible pens, listing various tablets & the cross platform compatibility of the pens. Many products are listed as "compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note", but there appears to be some variance between the Galaxy Note products related to this offset. Otherwise they work fine.
Thanks,
kev
I have just received a chinese replica I ordered a few days ago.
I wanted to have a replacement Spen which could fit the built-in hole, and of course It does fit. In fact is basically the same stylus without branding. The only issue with this Spen is the offset you mentioned above. All in all, mine doesn't have such a big offset, may be less than 1mm. The gap is so small that is very difficult to measure. I don´t regret the purchase, beside the fact that It only cost 6,19$.
I have attached some photos of the replica.

I got the same non-branded pens & they too suffered with too much offset for me. They also had a wobbly tip. I ended up with a Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel. Had to order it from Wacom directly to get the version that works with the Note 8. The model number is CS300UK2. It must have the "2" to work with the Note 8. The ones at Best Buy & most other retailers are CS300UK. The "K" is for black, so the white one would be CS300UW2.
Cheers,

I also bought a Chinese duplicate. However, my experience with it is not as great.
It is not a perfect fit into the slot. You hage to apply alot more pressure than you would for the Official pen to get it to fit fully snuggly.
It has also broke for me after about a month and is now completely unusable.
Am considering just getting a the Wacom Feel for Note devices. Please let me know how you are finding it!

The Feel works well for me. As I mentioned, I had to get the right one. It feels better in the hand than the stock stylus & the tip (soft) is very smooth on the screen without feeling too slippery. Haven't tried the hard replacement supplied.

Might not be the best place to post but if anyone knows about all the spen in the world it might be you guys.
The question is which spen has the plastic tip?
Long story version is:
I like to draw digitally, hence I got a samsung galaxy note and later switched to a lenovo yoga 12.2 inch for drawing.
I used to use my original samsung galaxy note 10.1 spen for my lenovo yoga laptop because their stylus just sucked. After that one got lost, I have decided to buy a galaxy note 4's stylus to use with my lenovo yoga, the accuracy was good but a bit draggy.
And that one got lost..(i know)
So I took a chance and bought a fujiutsi lifebook stylus, which was smooth...but the accuracy was off, the cursor followed underneath the stylus and I just couldnt calibrate the thing to work.
So I went back to buying a galaxy note 4 spen which i got for a bit cheaper. the accuracy was great, the pressure senestivity was harder but I managed to fix it. It was then I noticed that the thing was draggy because it had a rubber tip.
...I fiddled with the rubber tip...and It came off...I cant superglue it back..I also noticed without the rubber tip the accuracy is a bit off.
So before I go and buy the same thing..I was wondering if I should buy an spen with plastic tip. I looked around the XDA threads and it seems that samsung provides different tips for their galaxy note 3 users(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478825). I don't think I should buy the tips separately not knowing which one is plastic or rubbery. I think I can get the spen 2(with the thought that spen 2 has a plastic nib) in the same price as the set of spen 3 nibs. But I am not sure if they are gonna have the same accuracy without that rubber tip...or if spen 2 does have a plastic nib.
Or maybe I should just buy a bamboo feel (though that needs battery)
So..help?
Spen which comes with note 3 and note 4 comes with various replaceable tips and it has plastic tips too.
Cant say about note 5 as i dont own it.
But spen with note 3 and note 4 having plastic tip is confirmed.
I'm surprised that the S-Pen actually works on a non Note device! As from what I have heard Samsung's S-Pen uses electromagnetic technology to interact with the screen on Note devices.

Exactly! I've watched a teardown video of the S-Pen, which also explains how the S-Pen functions on the screen. Which uses a electromagnetic grid underneath or in the screen to pinpoint the position of the S-Pen when it's in use. This technology is different from the technology used in traditional capacitive touchscreens.

Thanks, I uhmmm...I already sort of ordered the note 2's spen >_>" It hasnt arrived yet so..
From where I have ordered they only seem to give me one spen with no extra tips, and the one I got had that stupid rubber tip, which was really draggy...which is why I got myself a nexus instead of a the latest galaxy note..plus that galaxy note was pricey...And I already have a galaxy note 10.1.

Samsung started to give interchangeable tips from note 3 only.
So in order to save ur own time and money, cancel the order and buy note 3 or or later device's spen.
EDIT: Model is SM-P850
So i feel like the S pen is too thin for me, what would be some recommendations for a third party stylus?
Offset it my main concern with a third party stylus
Lol no. S pen is the only thing that can make use of hardware features of your tablet

There are stylus pens that are compatible with S-pen tablets, I want to try one but I don't want to spend the money.

There is a builtin contradiction in what you are asking. Any "thicker" stylus would not be compatible because in wouldn't fit in the tablet. So any stylus you find advertised as being compatible with the S-Pen is, by definition, going to be thin.
edit: You might ask if anyone has tried the Wacom Gen 3 stylus with the P850. It is said to work with *some* Galaxy Note tablets.
Can we use note 10 s pen for it? It's pen size so it will be comfortable

Can you give a link to the pen? I had an SM-P600 Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 and it had the same skinny pen as the P580. It has to in order to fit into the slot of a skinny tablet.

I use the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 pen with my Tab A 10.1 with S pen. The pen goes for anywhere from $30 to $70 (US Dollars). It feels better in the hand, since I'm not writing with a toothpick (pulled out s pen). The button on the pen cannot be disabled... , but I manage it by turning the pen around to avoid accidentally pressing it with my thumb. Tab S3 pen's tip is more finer like a mechanical pencil vs. a ball point pen (pulled out s pen). You could replace the tip on the pulled out s pen with the Tab S3's tip, but it's not design to hold it correctly. You can write with it, but it will be very wobbly and it may also break.
Bought the staedtler noris digital from Amazon cause in my country the tab S3 pen was not sold separately and it's almost half the cost of the s3 pen. Fantastic pen(cil?) than the built in stylus, smaller tip and more fun to use. The downside is the lousy pencil cap and no clip whatsoever so you need to think a way to store it (I resolve this issue by using velcro around the pencil and stick it to the case).

I just bought the S Pen from the Tab S3 and it works perfectly on my p580. I purchased it the through Google, they sourced it from Fry's and included next day delivery at no charge. $39.99 plus sales tax. Its the only replacement that will work with the extended functionality of your tab AFAIK.
I also have galaxy tab a 10.1 P 585 but i lost my s pen :crying: and just cannot find affordable replacements, are there any other devices s pens that can be used as a replacement and can fit into that slot?? Thanks in advance
