So with the new announcement of the Nexus 4 and how it will work on T-Mobile's network, I've been wondering if I should sell my One S to buy the Nexus 4? Is anyone else having similar thoughts? I am really interested in the bigger screen, higher resolution, as well as the S4 Pro processor and the 2 GB of ram. The One S has served me well but waiting on an official Jelly Bean release from HTC has been a big pain, though ParanoidAndroid has helped me deal with that. I can't imagine it being supported officially when 4.3 comes out.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the Nexus 4 in comparison to our One S.

No worries a mod will move it. But on topic yeah its a great upgrade, it has the best specs on the market right now and it's only £279 I have already decided to upgrade and we can sell are one s on eBay and get the nexus 4 for like £30 on top.

I'm actually considering the same thing. Allthough the one S is a gorgeous device with good preformance and a wonderfulll build quality. But for this price its a real bargain, and as im on a 2 year contract i doubt the one s will keep up to speed. Plus I'm afraid alot of dev will jump ship aswell (some allready are).
Pro's for getting the Nexus 4 over the one S
- Better screen, this was a mayor lackbuster for the one S
- Newest chipset, allthough the oneS is doing a great job here, there is no denying the power of the s4 pro, and the nexus has a fresh aosp on top of that.
- Huge development community behind it

- Allthough the nexus has a great camera it doesnt has the same preformance and usability (burst, 0shutterlag, ect.)
- No sense. Yes its bloat, but we can't deny the solid preformance it has nowdays, and if we look at what 4.1 did for the one X i think i rather have a fun Sense ui over a vannila blend aosp nowdays (boring).
- I think i prefer the build quality on the one S, and it looks alot better aswell.
Still with this display, preformance, newest android builds is it hard not to consider it, especially with that price. And the development behind the nexus devices are really tempting too.
I'm buying the LG nexus 4 and selling HTC One S S3 because this phone was garbage. This was my last phone from HTC.

I really like the my HOS S4 but I'll sell my One S for about the same price of the Nexus 4.
PS: I don't care about the SD
There is just one "small" problem. It looks like in Italy the phone it will cost probably 549€ or 599€ instead of 349€ like Spain\France\Germany(via play store)...so I won't sell my One S

This pretty much sums it up. I wont buy it, as my contact lasts one year
Will probably move to it as well, main reasons are
- nexus phone therefore we get updates as soon as they are released and will be guaranteed to get them
- bigger screen
I love the one s, prefer sense to stock android, will probably have a better camera and it has way more features, prefer Samoled, better design/build etc. but HTC as a company have really let it down with support and slow updates, can't see jb hitting my phone for another 4 weeks or so....
I just need to see reviews of it first and user opinions for the audio, camera and battery life, there are reviews for the optimus g, but lg's software seems to have been very poorly optimised (software/driver optimisation is very important in these areas), although these areas still look very good anyway except the camera.
In theory the battery should be better than the s as the n4 has a next gen battery, more power efficient screen and s4 pro, the adreno 320 is more power efficient than the adreno 225
I'm tempted by it so much too just cause its a new phone lol ... But I really don't like the huge screen and I'd miss my camera too much cause the camera the HOS has is too good .. AND honestly the way it feels and the weight and all that makes me not wanna sell this ... On top of all that I think I actually like sense over stock lol ...and screw LG after the g2x I don't think I'm ever getting over that

Wow, are you me? I really do love the camera on the One S and the build quality just feels excellent; the two things that I would say it has over the Nexus 4. I like the cool metal case and just how professional and solid it feel. Like you, I also had the G2x before the One S and felt like they had screwed me over (Crappy drivers, crappy camera, crappy promise of ICS, etc.). I'll have to really see if I trust Google more than I distrust LG on making a good phone...

Though HTC is not so good at delivering updates, in my opinion it is the most reliable OEM out there. So i won't move to LG or Samsung. My reason is based mostly on build quality, which kida sucks on LG and Samsung when compared to HTC.
Also, i don't really see the point in having the latest gadget. The HOS S4 will still be breathing at least a year from now, the CPU and GPU are strong enough. Plus, i don't really see how a quad core will help me on a mobile phone.
The only Nexus i really miss is the original Nexus One, the HTC Desire's brother.
You do realise that lg have nothing to do with the software? All they have done is made the phone and everything regarding software is handled by Google since it's a nexus phone.
Google said they shipped the lg design team over to Google headquarters in order to work with them very closely on the design and ergonomics of the phone.
Lg make fantastic hardware and a lot of their phones are very good as usual they are let down by the poor support and awful software.

I would definitely agree if you have the One S S3. It would be a significant speed bump and there probably isn't a significant con to the Nexus 4 that the One S doesn't share (non-removable battery, no SD card, etc.). I think the S4 version would be a tougher decision as to whether or not to upgrade to the Nexus 4.
Im getting the Nexus 4 the second I have the funds.

My thoughts exactly although I still have my N1, it will always be the one I never let go.
The speed and performance on this phone is outstanding and well asop has become very boring and old. Sense for me was a very big suprise as its come such a long way and just gets better. For me I'm sticking with my One S.

Lol, no way you will get 300 euros for a S3 one S, when you could get a S4 one S for that.
Especially if you have the black model, which has chipping issues.
Only way is if you can find someone around your area who don't have a clue about tech/android stuff.

Cons: nexus: no lte ( doesn't bother me)

Not sure about more dev support on the S3, remember the Nexus 4 will be the first phone with a KLP OTA and ROMs, and it will take a little while to port to the SS.
Honestly I don't see the S3 to the Nexus 4 as an "upgrade" you don't really notice the krait for S4 Pro upgrade because the dual-core krait with 2gb RAM is so fast already, I don't see the quad core really helping that much, e.g. the S3 does not lag, it's like someone who uses Word and IE upgrading from an Ivy Bridge i5 to an i7...
The other con I can think of upgrading is the HDMI out is really weird for the Nexus 4, you can't just use a $8 MHL adapter... I watch movies all the time from my Galaxy Nexus to my HDTV so it would be an issue for me.
The on-screen buttons I agree with, I love being able to mod my soft keys and stuff, but you can do all of that with the S3 too with AOKP and custom ROMs, just don't even use the hard-buttons if you don' want.
All in all I prefer the Nexus 4 for the customizations, IPS display, and KLP updating, and probably a better working Ubuntu Mobile port faster.
Hope that helps, ultimately you could probably do a straight trade for the phone on a reputable online trading site or even craigslist or something, so why not try it out?
You can fix the blue whites on your amoled screen with a modified kernel.

very true, I had completely forgotten about any discoloration on my amoled Galaxy Nexus because I've had custom kernels with color fixes the whole time I've owned the phone.
I don't consider it as an upgrade either.
I have SGS3 and my sister has N4. For day-to-day usage, I really don't notice difference in performance.
I just can't live without wifi tethering over LTE on my SGS3.
in my opinion a change from s3 to nexus 4 is a downgrade

I'm contemplating selling my Red S3 and buying the Nexus 4 in its place, is this advisable? I used to be on top of my game with phones but fallen behind, so any pros or cons of each device would really help.

Many of my friends bought s3 and want to sell it.
System errors or sth like that i don't really know why.
Nexus 4 ist in my opinion very good and cheap .
you get the updates at first and the over smartyphone later

I switched from a OneX to the Nexus4. I'm so happy that I did it.
Let's say it like this: If it's OK for you to only have 16gb non-expandable storage and you can live with a bit a inferior camera, then the Nexus4 is so much better.
I have to admit, I just CAN'T live with 16gb. and I hate the the quality of the camera, though, I still like my Nexus4 more than my OneX.
I have only 1gig of storagespace free.. **** it.
The Nexus is just too good, there's no device I can think of wich I would like to use more.
It's incredible how much smoother that thing is compared to other droids, really.

I have an S3 and I looked at the Nexus4 in a store last week. I would say wait for the next one, unless you like the openness of the N4. Don't get me wrong, it's a great device and very cheap, but if you already have an S3, I personnaly don't see the point in switching. Both devices are great.
i think that S3 is the best becuase it is quad-core 1.4 Ghz and it is very fast..

Coming from someone who has never seen the specs on an N4...
S3 > N4
Oh, in my opinion, google did some basic matters false on the nexus 4. why for example do they push the user to use the google cloud? not adding enough space internally and lack the possibility to use a sd-card is ridiculous. True, the S3 hast some shortcomings too, but choosing from this 2 devices, I would definitly go for the s3.

Sure the gs3 may cost more but it's got an SDCARD SLOT!!!! how much do you think you can last on 16gigs without an sd card???
Plus it's got a bigger screen and a faster.processor. the only reason it gets slowed down is because.samsung hasn't done a great.job at configuring hardware. So , disable startup junk, clean, overclock if you wish, speedhack, change kernel and rom.

In my opinion there is no contest on which phones better than the S3 or nexus 4.... S3 by miles, more storage, better camera, faster, better screen, newer phone & better technolgy! The only thing which is bad about the S3 is the plastic back case on the back of the phone. Plus this is like the same old question when it comes to phones.... which is better? iPhone or S3? Please dont get me started on the outdated software on the Apple iphone

Deanr spoke.my mind. I believe he still has his galaxy though...anyways it would be wise to waiit for s4 to come out and then buy the s3 when prices really drop.
Also i can't understand why people keep making comparisons with android devices and iphone. There is NO comparison whatsoever. How can ios be 'cool' if there are just minor customization options?? Plus apple keeps blocking the jailbreak releases.making ios even more useless.
only things keeping ios alive are its apps and jailbreak. They'll soon be forgotten.....

See my experience thus far is nothing installs on SD, it gets sluggish so fast, there are definitely issues, I've not rooted it, as much as I want to, because it potentially voids my insurance cover. It frustrates me as the S2 did the app install so well but the S3 not so well.

You serious? The only thing you're right is the better camera and more storage.
Both, the screen and the CPU are much worse than the N4.
Better tech? whaaaat? The screen has a pentile matrix and exynos is really behind the snapdragon S4. Also, the newer phone is the nexus.
Don't tell things that you don't know exactly plz.
All you samsung users, your devices are awesome, granted, but they will never be as smooth as the nexus line.
OP, go try both phones. It's a matter of taste. you won't feel a real difference in daily use anyway, except you're a ROM flasher like me, then you should get a nexus by any means, because the development of the nexus line is so good.

If a galaxy s3 a.d nexys 4 flash the same kind of rom and both optimize it for their phone, the s3 will be blazing fast and the nexus just smoother.
Sure nexus 4 has a good screen, maybe youre right and its even better quality, but its smaller and part of it is taken up by the soft buttons. Too bad, but i get to use all of my screen space. No lag at all (cause i know how to configure my s3). The only prpblem with s3 is it has been configured really badly by samsung...

I have a n7 and a n4 y'know. Browsing XDA on my tab is a bit cooler xP
Are you a benchmark kiddy? benchmarks say nothing. and I got many friends with S3's, because samsung and apple dominates switzerland. There are almost no other models out here except S2's S3's and iphones.
Benchmarks of the exynos chips are not better than the ones from snapdragon s4 pro. Anyways, what matters in daily use is how smooth the phone is, not the speed and fps it can get in benchmarks (though, the S4 destroys the exyons when software is on same level).
Screensize/screen-estate? Since I own my n4 i never used onscreen-softbuttons. I'm using gestures with GMD Gesture control and deactivated the softbuttons on AOKP. That way I have the full screen of the n4 available, wich is really cool at a lcd-density of 240.
I don't say the S3 is bad. I just don't get the point why someone should get the S3 above the n4 when memory and camera don't matter.

But even thought im not a benchmark freak, and even though i too have friends with galaxies and a friend with an s3 that has made his phone so laggy i had to get him a new rom and kernel, so obviously the speed of the device depends on users smartness, im NOT giving up on s3 performance. I also know some guys with a S3 or S2 wich lags like hell. I don't know what they are doing, but those probs are mostly fixed when I flash them some good things.
Speed and user-experience depends on user smartness, that's really true
No benchmark battle for me, because my experiences are that kernels wich do better benchmarks mostly give worse userexperience in daily usage, but more fps in games.
But you can sure go and read some exynos 4412 vs s4 pro reviews, there are enough of them..

Hey all,
I wanted to know if there is anyone else out there in my shoes. I currently have the Samsung S4 and will be replacing it with the Nexus 5 (for now, not selling the S4 yet). Is anyone else weighing the pros and cons of both? Really, I'm just in the camera performance of the n5, especially with lower light. Losing the IR remote isn't a huge deal to me as I really don't use it often (but a cool feature non the less).
It's really not as easy as I was hoping for!

Same boat. Have the s4, and an iphone before that, considering the switch, but hard to justify.
The real questions is, is it $400 or so better than the s4.
I have an S4 just like you and ordered the N5 also. Honestly I am not sold yet because I don't like to keep 2 phones which means I have to get rid of the S4.
I am still debating with myself if having the Nexus is worth having especially since I am going to have to give up soo much to stay on a Nexus, the obvious trade offs so I won't mention it.
I am intrigued by the Nexus especially since I have never owned a Nexus phone.

Same for me here. Had an S4 since just after release, but have a N5 on the way to give it a try.
If I like it it'll only cost me around £100 if I sell the S4, and if I don't then I'll only lose out on around £20 of delivery costs. Not sure which one I'll keep yet, need to read some in depth reviews and actually get hands on with the phone!
I also have a S4 and ordered N5. The only cons that N5 have vs S4 I could think of are camera pixels and non expandable storage. I'm still trying to figure out what I should with my 20gb music on the sdcard when I got the N5.
I have the S4 and now I have the Nexus 5. It feels much better in the hand. I never know why Samsung recessed the screen slightly against the edge on the front. Doesn't feel good, I like my fingers to glide over the edges of a phone.
That and the Nexus 5 back piece is 10x better feeling that Samsungs slip n slide plastic.
Only thing you'll downgrade on is the camera (Touchwizz camera app is also far superior to AOSP), and arguably the screen if you prefer deep blacks. Then there's the storage arguments, but I use Google Music so I'm fine.
Knox was a tipping point as well for me, I went from a Nexus 4 to a GS4, have owned the GS4 for about 5 months and I'll now never buy a Samsung phone again.
I'm switching from the S4 to the N5 too because of how AT&T crippled the bootloader. The only cons (and these are very small cons) are no removable battery and no SD card. Those are off set though due to being able to do what I want to my phone again.

Can you root and install custom ROM on the Explorer Samsung s4.? If so its not much of an upgrade to nex5

I'm jumping ship as well. The only thing I'm really concerned about is the screen quality compared to the S4. I have a premium Slacker radio account so storage space isn't critical.

If it's anything like the N4 screen in terms of colors, it will be a more accurate but less saturated screen compared to Samsung's. Everything I've read says it's gorgeous.

Nice. Hopefully it's not too much of a difference.
What I'm most excited about its the fact that cm based roms won't be buggy like they are on the S4.

The openness is half or more of the reason to get a Nexus. They're an entirely different breed.

I'm doing the same. Ive had every nexus and every galaxy s except the s2. The only reason I sold my nexus 4 was due to its lack of LTE on att and its screen wasn't doing it for me. But as for the features of the s4, I won't miss them much except the camera. I've been running Google edition Roms on my s4 since they came out in July/August. The only time I use the ir blaster is when I'm at buffalo wild wings ?

The blacks on the S4 destroy the Nexus 5, but that's just down to AMOLED vs IPS.
Only jumping from S4 to N5 due to Tri-band support for Sprint.

If you're getting the 32gb model, you should be able to fit that all on the internal storage.

Problem is I have 6 gigs of apps, which leaves me a little space if I loaded them all to N5. It would be perfect if N5 has a 64GB variant. I think I'll get a separate device for music.. that should work.
hi am thinking of getting eithe r lg g2 or nexus 5. if someone has both can you help with few questions on decide wich to get..
so far i know hardware is the same except camera , maybe battery..
i know camera on g2 is better but how better is it then the nexus 5? are there any mods for better camera on n5
also nexus means updates...
so am in the middle of good camera vs new updates.?
i know theres aosp and cm...
about battery life how is it?

As regards the Nexus 5, I can say that the battery life is outstanding (i'm using CM 12.1 CAF).
Get the G2. It's just a better phone overall, unless you're an update junkie.

g2 only ahead of nexus 5 in battery.nothing else.
Had both, changed the LG G2 for the Nexus 5. Both are great phones. G2 has an extreme battery, you can get easily 6-7 horas of SOT, the only problem is really the software.
Perfect combination would be Nexus 5 software with G2 hardware.

and about how much of SOT on nexus... ican only get about 3 on skyrocket its more like a phone with a chord attached lol..
in software you mean ui ?could you explain? someone told me that g2 if going on cm or aosp it losses camera advantages ..
well updates are good and so its battery.. very tough to decide...

I think that it has not much support from community, at least not like Nexus 5, that's a disadvantage.
In Nexus 5 with custom kernel and rom I can get about 4-4:30 hours with moderate use, nothing compared to G2 one.
Been using my brothers old LG G2 for a few days. Software is trash, battery is absolutely fantastic. Perhaps find a good custom ROM on the LG G2 and you're set.

from experience the g2 is better camera wise and battery, although roms are built off cm and not aosp (i assume depending on carrier) and nexus overall is a beast but battery sucks and has more support on here on xda... i bricked my g2 trying to get grola rom on it and ruined the partitions
G2 is almost superior in every aspect but if you dig into it more, there is one hardware defect that instantly kills it: touch panel malfunction. Almost every G2 I've seen around my local forums (be it international, Sprint, Verizon or else, and be it treated carefully or badly) eventually get the syndrome where a horizontal portion of the touchscreen stops responding, usually one year after their purchase. This is a hardware issue and will not be fixed by ROMs.
If it had not been like this I would've bought myself a Sprint G2. Think it over.

Had the g2 for 2 months, camera/battery is great, speakers aren't that great, software is utter ****. Flashing roms isn't as cut and dry as with the nexus 5 since there's a handful of variations of the g2, in my case there was no compatible lollipop rom since lg never released a lollipop rom in my country, so i was having constant modem issues no matter what i tried. Got rid of if because of that.
Personally, I think Nexus 5 is spot on with the phone dimensions, shape and screen size. I had Meizu MX3 before, and it was MUCH harder to use it with one hand and I wasn't feeling very comfortable holding it. Granted, despite bigger screen, G2 is slightly smaller than MX3, but it still probably isn't insanely comfortable to hold and operate. So yeah, I think the way it feels in your hand and how comfortable are you with it (I very much prefer the design of N5 as well, but that's a subjective matter) is more important than minor differences in specs. And of course - software/support.

I had the G2 for quite some time, but since I cracked the screen/digitizer and it was replaced with a generic one, it never was right. I ended up finding a good deal on a Nexus 5.
G2 - lightweight and awesome battery life. Great screen
Nexus 5- lots of developer support, I feel it has a better camera, but crappier battery for sure. I hate having a charger so I have a power pack on it and it kinda turns it into a brick.
Overall I believe you'd be happy with either one. I think my next phone will be a Z3 compact. I don't like big phones anymore unless they became G2 size with updated specs. I had a custom rom and kernel on the G2 and maybe I wasn't tuned right, but it did seem to lag more often than it should.

don't think to buy any z series from sony mate.They are really problematic series,you can google it.I recommending you to wait nexus 5 2015 edition from lg
