First off, brilliant app. I feel functionality such as this should be standard in all smart phones. And if I may, I'd like to give some feedback and make a few suggestions.
UI:
1) I think the three quick toggles in the main view should rather be in a vertical layout, instead of a scrollable horizontal layout. It might look better than having the last toggle (Start Landscape Disable) cropped off.
2) Consider one of the following two options regarding "Sensor Data":
2a) Add the raw sensor data for each sensor to its respective dialog. The string "Sensor Data" implies actual input data from the sensor. I think this would be pretty cool anyway.
2b) Rename to "Sensor Information". Currently, the dialog only provides information regarding the sensor, eg brand, resolution, power, etc, and no data.
3) The text of the last option in the "Sensor Mode" selection list (Fuse + Split:.... Editor's Choice) is slightly cropped off, and the radio button isn't visible. I guess this is due to the images added - which looks nice btw.
4) This is pure personal preference, but I would rather use the android holo style blue as the in-app theme (or provide an option to change it). I understand that the orange is to match the app icon. However, this is really not important.
Bugs:
For the record, the sensor mode I'm using is the editor's choice (Proximity + Shake|Proximity), where proximity locks only, and shake|proximity unlocks only.
1) I've set the "Screen Lock Delay" to 3s. Now I've noticed that if I quickly swipe over the sensor, for example in 0.5s, the device will still lock after 3s. This is infuriatingly annoying. I frequently place my phone flat on a surface and work on it from there, and if I accidentally block the sensor it will lock. This also sometimes causes great confusion when unlocking. Eg, when I take my phone out of my pocket it will unlock correctly, but most of the time it will lock again immediately due to something that blocked the sensor again. I would suggest fixing this by checking after 3s if the sensor is still blocked, and only then should the device actually lock. If the described behavior is intended, then please consider adding what I just suggested as a fix.
2) This is a weird one. Whenever I use any sensor mode with the proximity sensor (proximity only, proximity fuse, proximity split, any of them), I get noise over my headphones. I don't know how exactly to describe it, but it sounds like a rapid ticking sound. I've tried combinations of all the other settings in the app, but the only thing that causes this noise is when the proximity sensor is used. Upon further testing, I've found that the noise occurs whenever the phone does something, and for exactly 4s after that operation. For instance, if I press any of the soft keys like the back button, the ticking noise will be audible for 4s. Tapping on a blank area of the screen, or scrolling has no effect. However if I launch an app, or tap a button, the noise would be there and would stop after 4s. Now, this might seem stupid and insignificant, but what is driving me crazy is the fact that when I listen to music, this noise would go on constantly, until I've stopped music playback. The volume setting (and volume button) has no effect on the noise, as I've played music with muted volume and still get the noise. I have a Nexus 4, stock ROM, rooted and SGS4 (4pin) headphones.
The rest of the app is stunning. Great job!

Thanks friend for such an awesome detailed description of the app.
I was glad to read it.
I'll make the changes effectively except the theme changes would be hard because I'm in love with the new looks.
I've been hearing that ticking sound issue when headphones plugged for Nexus 4 because other devices aren't facing it.
Can you check out if other apps using Proximity sensor give this issue?
No other sensor is checked again except Proximity sensor because when compared with other sensor it is accidently hit.
I'll check why it doesn't work when using Proximity + Shake|Proximity
Thanks for the review. I hope you rate the app on Play Store.

Here are few tips to decrease battery consumption :
1. Try decreasing Unlock Screen Timeout. If 0 unlocks your device then use it only.
2. Try changing the wake lock type in advanced panel. I guess one of the wake lock type should decrease your battery consumption
3. None of the above works then, change advanced unlock to Activity Method or System Method from basic panel.

KUDOS to the Developer. Its Awesome and Tested on nearly 5 Devices without any problem whatsoever.
Nexus 4, Gionee Elife E6, Htc One, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
Cover the Proximity sensor with a Finger and Shake. The Phones Lock.
Now slide your hand from left to right over the Proximity Sensor, and the devices Unlock.
Repeated Tests on 5 Devices and Its really awesome.
Sorry Developer, I bought One time , and shared it to my other devices to check whether it really works or not.And It Does.

Foremost, let us all acknowledge Koushik for his brilliant "Sensors" library upon which most if not all non-HTC apps that use the G-Sensor, Light-Sensor, and Navi-Sensor are built, simply ingenious. Moreover, I would like to recognize No2chem for the NeuLed2 library which is an equally exquisite peace of code that allows access to the Diamond/Pro Leds. Without those two guys, accessing these advance interfaces on the diamond/pro would be inapproachable at best.
Reason: HTC gave these phones lots of sensors, lets give them.."Sense".
......... EXTRA-Sense ...........
* Hopefully an innovaton, though mostly an integration of RANDOM but needful features...
Features:
1. Courtesy Profiles:
- Set Volume Profiles to activate on Face-Down & Face-UP events. Choose from: None, Silent, Normal, and Vibrate. You can also choose to suspend the Phone when its facing down.
2. Notifications-Sense:
- IF there is/are any outstanding notification(s), the device will vibrate whenever you move it - at customizable intervals: Missed Call(s), Voice Mail, and SMS.
3. Stylus-Sense:- When the Stylus is in/out: Will play sound + Blink the Back button's light.
- When the Stylus is out and the device is moved: Device will vibrate faintly + blink the Back button's light to REMIND you that the Stylus has not been placed back in. This goes on UNTIL the Stylus is placed where it should be.
* Uses "in.wav" & "out.wav" files in the \XSense\ Dir; you can use whatever wave files for this. OR, use the UI to select whichever wave files you want!
4. General Settings:
- Polling Interval: From 200 to 3000 Miliseconds. This determines the rate at which the G-Sensor is polled. Lower values give higher response times and fluid operation at the cost of battery life & CPU utilization.
- Flash Navi Lights: Will blink button lights to notify you of Profile changes and Stylus In/Out.
- Vibrate on Events: Will induce very subtle vibrations to notify you of Notifications and Profile changes.
- Suspend when UP-Side-Down: ???
- Light Navi Button When Suspended: Will do just that when the Light Sensor senses Dim or Dark conditions. This is an independent setting that turns ON the Navi button's light at suspend time, and OFF at Resume time (this is Event Driven, so no polling is involved). This feature really helps if, like me, you want to see where the damn thing is in the dark - before you launch it against the floor.
5. Installs to "\Program Files\XSense", and Creates 2 shortcuts:
"Start Menu\Programs\XSense" and "Startup\XSenseSvc".
Program Settings are saved to the Registry at "HKCU\Software\XSense\".
Use of System Resources:
1. Diskspace: 162 KB RAM footprint: 374-535 KB Battery: NOT observed.
2. CPU Usage: %0.29 Average. Spikes for 2 seconds to %2.7 - %8.5.
3. Battery Impact: Neligeable if at all!
* Indicated CPU usage occurs ONLY when there is an EVENT (posture changed, stylus in/out Sounds playing,
etc)
- Vibration: The way I like it is in waves of 200 miliseconds length! I generally hate vibrations, so if you want it at 201 ms. you're welcome to make your own program and exercise your personal taste.
- This prgram Registers Event Handlers for: "G-Sensor", "Incoming Call", "Phone Call in Progress", "Stylus in/out", and Power Manager events. DO NOT move it to Internal Storage, you have been warned.
Requirements:
.NET 3.5 + HTC device with GSensor & Light Sensor.
Compatibility:
Specifically designed for Diamond & Raphael, but will work fine on HD/Rhodium/Topaz/HD2 etc...
Bugs/Limitations:
Knock yourself out...
Release Notes:
- This is the LAST revision/release/app I make; programming too much work
- Download & Install the CAB
- Run the XSense from your Start Menu\Programs, customize to taste, and enjoy!
Change Log:
- Brand New UI: VERY "finger friendly" this should be especially useful if you have a WVGA Device
i.e. HD/Rhodium/Topaz/HD2 etc...
- Revised entire code for existing & potential bugs, and Performance
tweaked to death.
- Removed various functions (auto speakerphone, car-kit options, etc...). Use "Touch InCall Screen Tweak" for these,
its handles Phone/Speaker brilliantly!
- Shortcut added to Startup for automatic launch after reboot.
- Shortcut with a nice icon added to Start Menu (Credit to VetVito).
- General Tab:
- Navi Button will only light up if the device is in a dark place, i.e. You will
always see where your phone is (before you trash it against the wall).
- Stylus Tab:
- UI elements to select & set sounds for Stylus-in/out events.

This initiative sounds great But I would love one more feature. The ability to lock and unlock the device by using G-sensor. In particular, a gesture consisting of tilting the device donwards (with the screen facing the ground) and then upwards again (the screen facing the sky)

I'm just too lazy to make this LEO-specific, and this way I don't have to make 2 programs (one for LEO and one for everything else)....

Max Manila does this. Well, it locks when you aim the top of the phone at the floor.
Doesn't seem to work well with S2U2. For example, if your HD2 is set to lock with S2U2, then u put if face down, phone is not put in silent mode until u press a button to light up the screen when the screen is face down. So the first call to come in will still ring. But subsequent calls won't because when the first call comes in, the screen lights up and phone is set to silent.
The reverse is also true. If I revert to face up from a silent-ed face down position, and I do not press any button to light up the screen, it remains in silent mode until an action that lights up the screen.
Anyway to work around this? Or is it sorely the problem of S2U2?

This is not due to interference wth S2U2, it is in fact a programmed behaviour - I made it this way. The reason for this was conserving power; the device wakes up to incomming calls on a priority basis -think bus mastering- and the only way around it is to give the G-Sensor polling a higher priority, which means continuous polling + disallow the device to suspend power (the same effect as Shake2Wake). This costs you lots of battery juice, and according to Microsoft, a non-snapdragon device won't last the day in this operation mode!
Nonetheless, suggestions are welcomed...

Hmmm...so the first call that comes in when phone is face down will not be silenced, and the first call that comes in when phone is face up after being moved from a face down orientation will always be silent?
The first scenario is still ok, can still silence it with a key press. But the 2nd scenario makes it possible to miss a call even when phone is face up. That does sound like it defeats the purpose of the app.
I'm not sure of the technical side of solving this, but missing every first call after flipping face up just sounds strange.
Finally, the closest thing to what i've been looking for. I have a HTC Fuze. With this app, I can only get the center LED (around the D-pad) to be on solid only in the dark, which is a nice feature, but i'd like to have all the LEDs at the bottom of the device (Home, Back, Send and End) to be on in dim or dark conditions, WHILE the phone is in use or suspended.
Can it be added, or how would I go about setting it up myself?
Thanks

its like the app 'dont touch my droid'. i like this ui better though, and it has a few more features.
really like this app, works great.....thanks for sharing....
Thanks, I had an app like this for one of my Nokias. I know I will enjoy it.
Hello all,
I am trying to figure out 3 comments in market stating that Jolt is not working in sleep mode. So if anyone wants to help please just post here or pm me your device, rom and whether jolt is working or not in sleep / standby mode. If it is not working a logcat copy would be very helpful.
So far I have tested it and it is working for sure on the following devices:
Desire (stock rom, oxygen, devnul), Desire S, Wildfire, SE x10 Mini, Galaxy Tab
Three comments in market suggest that it might not work in sleep mode on:
Evo 4G (CM7), Atrix 4G and ZTE Blade.
Thanks,
George
PS. Version 1.3.5 is coming soon with new feature of choosing arming delay.
New Version is out:
I have just uploaded a new version to the market:
The main new features are:
New option to pause alarm during incoming calls
Option to work in sleep mode removed as this now always on
New slider to select activation delay
Better support for some devices that had problem working in sleep mode
Added a simple activation countdown
Most phones should now work in sleep / standby mode. Unfortunetely a few will still turn off accelerometer when the screen goes off. Please report to me your device and android verion if you have such a phone.
Thanks for your support,
George
Minor Update
Thanks to MobileWon I' ve discovered an IntentReceiver leak. Update is available on market.
Thanks all for your feedback
PS. You can find tips on facebook Jolt page

any chances of this being openSource?
Finally got my app up and running on the Market and being a die hard Galaxy Note and xda user, I thought it would only be appropriate to post it here for fellow users to enjoy. =)
IntelliCover is a utility which uses your device’s proximity sensor to control its display and allow fast and efficient access to your phone or tablet.
It turns the screen turns off automatically when you put your device in your pockets, close its flip cover, store the device in a bag, or even just leave the device facing down on a table. As soon as the device is back in your hand the proximity sensor is triggered again, the screen turns back on and your phone is instantly ready for use.
IntelliCover is more feature-filled than any other similar application on the market. And the best part? It's FREE!

*** Frequently Asked Questions ***
Q) Is it really free? Where are the ads?
Ans) IntelliCover is completely free and has no ads whatsoever!
Q) Do I require a rooted device to use IntelliCover?
Ans) Nope. IntelliCover works on all supported phones and tablets, rooted or unrooted.
Q) Doesn’t using the proximity sensor consume a lot of battery?
Ans) Actually, the proximity sensor consumes minimal power, almost little enough to be insignificant.
Q) What are the ‘Screen On’ and ‘Screen Off’ actions?
Ans) IntelliCover allows you to set events to be triggered when the screen turn on or off. For example, by setting wi-fi to turn on when your screen turns on and setting it to turn off when the screen turns off, you could save a huge amount of battery power.
Q) Can I request a feature?
Ans) Of course! Head over to the Contact section to drop me an e-mail.
Q) Why does IntelliCover keep running in the background?
Ans) It has to run in the background to know when the proximity sensor is triggered.
Q) How can I uninstall the application?
Ans) First you must go into Security settings and remove IntelliCover from System Administrator. Then it can be uninstalled like any other application.
Q) Can I donate to the developer?
Ans) Not yet but hopefully I’ll have something set up soon.

Oh I get it. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll try to fix it as soon as possible. I have exams right now but after that (in a week probably) I'll release a fixed, updated version. And thanks also for the rating. With a new app, it really helps to get good ratings

Well there is a delay option. So you could set a delay of 2-3 seconds or more so that if you move your hand by mistake to the proximity sensor, it won't just turn off, it'll be delayed. Or you could set the vibrate function on so if your hand goes there, the phone will vibrate to warn you about it. :good:
Downloaded and voted with five stars.
Thanks mate.
Downloading rite now..
good idea ! But, it's not working with flip cover.
Indeed, the screen turn off when the flip cover is at 5mm of the sensor but it turns on again when completely closed!!!
can you fix that?

Hmm...not sure. It works with my flip cover. Almost all phones (like Galaxy Note) have a proximity sensor that only detects FAR or NEAR. So even though I've told the application to turn the screen off when an object comes to a certain distance, either the hardware itself or the phone's firmware doesn't have the ability to detect the distance. Proximity sensors are only made to be used when on a call so it doesn't really need to detect distance in its regular everyday usage I guess.
I did have a similar problem to yours when testing with a sort of snake-skin leather Zenus case because it had some tiny ridges in it, but in most test cases it worked. I'll try my best to see if I can dig up a solution. =)
If I remember well, it depends on the color of the cover.
Darker means that the proximity doesn't work very well.
I have another proximity app, I'll switch to this one very soon, and I have to put a little white stripe on the cover, where the sensor is, to make it work correctly.
If I'm not wrong,is an issue with all the sensors and not a program fault.

Now that I think about it, that actually makes alot of sense. I don't know what it is with ALL sensors and black but they do tend to freak out. I even have an amazing Logitech mouse that works on mirrors and glass and see-through plastic and anywhere else except for on pitch black surfaces lol. The only crude fix I could think of is to use a combo of proximity sensor and light sensor somehow but it would be a waste of battery in my opinion.
Just tried your app, but didn't really worked : when I flip my (black) cover (or when I hide the sensor with my finger), the screens goes off but just for few seconds before getting on again. I'm using WidgetLocker btw, I don't know if it affects your app or not.
Edit : if you need logs or anything, feel free to ask

Hi! I'm still searching into it but it would seem that darker colors do not work well with the proximity sensor. Since this doesn't really have much to do with the actual programming itself I'm not sure I can do much about that.
BUT it should work when you use your finger. WidgetLocker shouldn't make a difference, it just works like any other lockscreen so it won't affect the functionality of my app. The fact that it turns on after a while baffles me though, because programmatically it doesn't make sense to me.
If you don't mind, could you please try putting the phone down on a surface or putting it in your pocket to test it? The proximity sensor is pretty sensitive so if you'd moved your finger even a bit it could have gotten triggered. Let me know if it still doesn't work and then we can move on to the messy part.
*yawn* Time for bed
This is happening right now!
Sorry, was just shocked when I actually saw the posting dates/time, I always assume apps have been around and had the bugs worked out, but I see this is newly born! So, for an i717 Note (AT&T Branded) this should essentially work the same, right? I mean there are no processor specific requirements or such? I am a releatively new Note owner - just a few days, and I have rooted, flashed a nice ROM, and ordered an awesome leather cover (NOT the cheesy flip cover) and I went looking for a proximity sensor based "cover detection app" - this sounds good, nice options to fine tune, and the dev sounds really into making this work well. Sounds like a winner. I will grab this now, but will not have my cover till Monday. It is NOT black, LOL, so I will test and report how well it works soon after i get my cover. I also got the Samsung branded car mount (I am going broke getting these, for my HTC phones, then GSII, then GSII Skyrocket (slightly larger) and now Note (LOTS LARGER, LOL!) Oh, so why am I telling you about my car dock? Because it's awesome, LOL!!! Nah, just kidding, (but it IS awesome) - I am wondering if being in a darkened car, like at night might trip the proximity sensors threshold for available light and kill the screen. Anyway, if you don't know that's okay. If it does trip the sensor, I will let you know.
Thanks again for a quality app, with no ads, and free. Always a pleasure - gonna put a price on it when it's perfect? If so remember your testers, hehe.

lol Well let's get one thing out the way. This app is and will be free (and ad-free) forever. So don't worry about that. Who knows, maybe a long way into the future I might release a paid app to earn a little cash but I don't plan on doing so anytime soon, and surely not to this app.
As for compatibility, as long as your phone has a proximity sensor the app should work (though I'm working out some problems on the smaller phones) so yes, it should work on your phone, no problem. Just hope it works out with your cover though. My cover is sort of a really dark deep brown and it doesn't work at times so I tend not to use that one. I do alot of coding and testing at night btw, and it doesn't just trigger the proximity sensor, so I strongly doubt a darkened car would trigger it.
Good luck with your Note btw. I really think you made the right choice. I've had mine for a year now. I'm just in college so I can't buy Note 2 or I would have. The way Samsung talks about Note 2 though makes me believe I'll have the chance to grab a Note 3 sometime in the future. =)
YES! FINALLY! Fix for all Gingerbread devices coming soon. Should be up within a day or two after some testing. Then I'll work on widgets and optimization and other stuff after I'm done with exams.
i installed this app. but when i close the flip cover, it just locks the screen . opening the cover does nothing

Yes, unfortunately this isn't a problem with the application. Proximity sensors don't work well on darker colors. That's why it might work with your finger and maybe in your pocket but not with a black cover. Sorry, this is a problem with hardware, not with the app, so I can't fix that. Only thing I can tell you is that you're not alone. Pretty much all proximity sensors have trouble with black, not just yours.

Hello! I love the app! I just installed it, and it works great so far keep up your good work!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Seems good, some questions though.
1. Is it supposed to be able to turn the screen on? Take phone out of pocket, proximity sensor detects values that indicate there's nothing near (Sorry, dunno how / what values are calculated / used) and viola, screen on?
2. Dunno if I've set it up incorrectly. But, currently, if I turn on my screen, via the power button (Sony Xperia S), the stock lockscreen will show, and either one of two things will happen. Either I unlock it successfully, and the split second I'm completing the unlock, the phone will screen off, and engage the lockscreen - after unlocking this, can I get into my phone. OR it'll do what I've previously mentioned, without input.

Yup, it turns the screen on as well. The values are pretty much just FAR and NEAR for most proximity sensors, so once it detects that there's no object close to it, it should turn the screen on. If it's not turning on at all, that might be the root of the problem i.e. it might be causing the unlock issue as well...Hmmm...I checked out your phone specs and since you said "stock lockscreen", I think it's safe to assume you're on the stock ROM but are you still on Gingerbread? If so, that partially explains the issue. Some Gingerbread ROMs have compatibility issues with the app that are very similar to what you've described, I have no idea why but I'm still looking into it. I had to fix ALOT of Gingerbread issues to get it working this far lol. If you're not on GB though, I guess I need to hunt for an Xperia and begin testing/debuggin. :fingers-crossed:

thanks for the update
working good.
I'm working on adding a widget and changing the design, but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'd love to hear them because design is not as important as functionality.
Love it. great app, and working fine on both my LG Optimus 3D and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
could we have a choice on the notification icon, would be nice to have a small black dot or something. i just like a empty notification bar but understand the need for it to actually be in the notification bar
thanks
other than that this is my fav ap on my phone
won't this drain battery

Yea, it's unfortunate that foregrounding requires the notification icon. You could try using the app without foregrounding, it works for some people. Adding more notification icons should be easy, won't take much time. =) Which ones do you think I should add? A small black dot would disappear on most black status bars (but it'll look like there's an empty space in the status bar so it'll look a little weird)...

The proximity sensor uses very little battery and the app itself is pretty light (4-5MB RAM). So far I've only gotten one deep sleep complaint out of 3500+ downloads but no battery issues.

Finally! Found a way to completely remove the icon and the notification from the status bar when the app is foregrounded. It'll be in the next update (today or tomorrow). It can still be enabled manually from the Notifications section but yea, enjoy the emptiness of your status bar. xP
Pretty Huge Update. Hope you like it!
Version 3.0
-Added Screen On Fix for some phones (Enable in settings)
-Status Bar Notification/Icon will no longer automatically show up when app is foregrounded.
-Added Pocket Mode
-Added Table Mode
-Added Widget
-Fixed Screen On/Off Actions bug
One thing I notice (which is NO WHERE CLOSE to a big deal)
The launcher I use (Nova) I hide the status bar and use a gesture to bring it down. When ever Intellicover turns the screen on, the status quickly shows itself and then goes back hidden, not more than a half second of this, but I cannot select anything on the screen until after that status bar thing happens
I like the concept of the app, and it works fine with my sensors. I have one complaint though, I don't like how when the phone screen turns on, it opens to the Intellicover App. Sure I can set it to go to the home screen, but I don't always want that. Once Intellicover is running, I don't want to ever see it again unless I manually launch it from the app drawer. If I have Chrome open and I have to suddenly put my phone down or in my pocket, I'd like to pull my phone back out and have Chrome still be on the screen, just like happens now using the sleep button.
Turns my dumb flip cover on my note 2 into a smart cover. Thanks

Actually, that shouldn't be happening. Once set you never have to see it again. I'm not quite sure what could be triggering this but if you could provide a little information about the OS/phone model/etc. I could try to get a hold on the device and try to replicate the error...

Thanks a lot for your cofirmation that it works as expected on Sony Xperia L. For the shake, you need to move a litle bit faster and do it once to avoid disabling flash
