Lol you really came to XDA to ask if you can talk through the watch ... ???
1) .. im not aware of a specific Slacker app ..
2) you can initiate calls/ reject calls on the watch but you CANNOT talk through the watch - there is no speaker /mic
3) You can read and reply to texts .. with canned responses .. although there might be an app that will let you send custom messages from the watch.
is the Gear a standalone phone or do you need a Samsung galaxy to use it?

if the microphone is a must, you might want to check out the HOT smartwatch by PHTL
it was a kickstarter project, but you can preorder here in a couple of days
there is no slacker extension (yet) for this watch
you can read texts, facebook posts, tweets, mail and gmail
those are all free extensions from Sony
there is a whatsapp extension, but not by Sony and isn't free, but works well
if you're not in a hurry to buy, i'd hold out on this watch (sorry to say), i think the firmware needs some work for this watch to be a real success
(like more/custom watch faces, selectable timeout)
Evernote can run on Sony sw 2? Thanks! Daniele

As long as you have any kind of headset attached to the phone it is paired with, you can initiate calls from the watch. You can end the call too, so there is no need to get the phone out of your pocket.
Text message replies can be done, be they have to be pre-setup in the phone.
There is a paid app that allows you to compose SMS messages on the watch, but it's a bit awkward as it uses the old T9 keyboard. As in for the letter C you press number 2 three times. It works - just.
Not sure about the App in your first question, but my experience of the music apps on the watch have been bad so far. It's skips tracks and adjusts volume etc, but not instantly and the bluetooth lag is a little bit annoying. Better to use a headphone set with a skip button.

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

SMS Speak
Just stumbled across this thread looking for something else. But thought I'd chime in. I use SMS Speak (the paid one, not the free one - two different companies/products), and it works great. I can get incoming texts and reply, all orally. I'm curious about the other products mentioned, though...

Will Mango fix the basic functions that were missing when released?
None of the recent reviews seem to address this..
1. Can you listen to movie audio via bluetooth headset ?
2. Can you prevent sms notifications appearing - especially on the lock screen ?
3. Is there now a detailed CALL History ?
4. Can you delete history of recent people, photos, music etc ?
5. Can you forward emails and text messages ?
6. Any sign of SMART Dialing ?
7. Can you SMS to a contacts 2nd mobile number ?
I am sure there are other small things I cant think of...

You have already been able to do this with emails & text messages/mms.
Not sure on the rest, I haven't been specifically looking for those though with the exception of smart dialing, which I do not think is in Mango.

@colossus_r what is your POINT !!!!!!!!!!
I`ve had a Samsung Omnia since October and carry it everyday along with my Blackberry for work.... but I dont have time to f%%k about trying to work out things that are not obvious!!! My phone is pre-nodo btw if that makes a difference..
About Question 5
Now I am looking at a text message on the phone I press the three dots (...) and the options are send (which just does a reply) and attach. Exactly how do I forward to a different person as it does not seem clear...
About Question 7
Also how would I know that to sms to a 2nd number in contacts I would have to create a 2nd contact for the same person and then link them!!!
Questions were aimed at people who have used the Early Mango Build
Thanks to those who have answered so far

If you youtube the windows phone mago review you will see some of the features in action which could help some of the questions you havent asked.
Press and hold on a msg, you will see the option for forward. Its pretty easy to find out. That's why the other guy was questioning if you have used a wp7 phone on a daily base. Yeah, you do need to calm down a bit. If those features were important to you, a quick search would have solved your problem.

In my opinion, NoDo fixed the basics. WP7 was horrid before NoDo. Mango is supposed to go beyond the basics with added features bringing WP7 up to the level of other smartphones.
what about contact search in mango? anybody has info on whether we can search by company or still by name only?
Not sure, but there are groups anyway, so you could set up business groups.
To the original poster...
1. Dont know, hope so.
2. Dont know again, doesnt really bother me, though, just swipe to the right and it disapears.
3. Yes
4. Dont know, wouldnt use it, so havent looked.
5. Both availble since launch, just hold on the text and click foward (three dots wont work, because how the hell is the phone supposed to know which text you want to foward.) Email just press the lower left icon and it says Reply or Forward, choose forward... Incredibly simple.
6. Dont know, hope so.
7. If there is a second number in your contact you can just do it from the people hub anyway.
Company search for Exchange 2007/2010 always worked always worked I think ...but Exchange 2003 company search (GAL) was enabled in NODO
Thanks to all for answers and appologies if I have offended anyone I am a bit peeved with Microsoft, Orange and Samsung and this non update on my Omnia 7 issue......
Anyway
Email - I just realised that I actually did know previously that you could forward email but forgot as I have been mainly using Company Blackberry for email for a few months now...
SMS - I agree I didnt think it through properly and didnt think about the conversation mode would mean requiring a long press... looked a few times and tried short presses but just assumed it was a missing feature.
Thanks again feeling a bit think now
There is no smart dialing in the beta I'm using

When I start typing something in the "People" application, it finds it whether it's in the name, company or notes field of my address book. Google apps synced account, if that's of any interest, but I see no reason it wouldn't be global.
Just wanted to give my review for the Automatic Call Recorder App which I have been using for a while now and absolutely love it!
So the app loads as soon as you make an outgoing call or accept an incoming call. You have multiple file formats to save the calls from mp3 to 3gp there's a good few more options. The UI is very simple to use and you can track back over a lot of phone calls. I recommend to use at least a 32gb memory so you can as calls that happened a while ago. If you want to hear a particular call, just find it from the call log in the app and simply press the play button. The sound quality is great and there has never been any distortion on playback. If you wanted to share the call recording then you are able to with a simple one click on the share button. I have installed this app on all my family members phones and they love it too. The "recent calls" and "frequent calls" drop down so you can easily see the list of the call logs made. There are a lot of additional features in the settings and all user friendly for anyone to get set up on. The "Memory Info" shows how much free memory you have left and converts this into how long you can record based on the free space left so there is no hidden tabs you need to go to in order to find out the important information. I definitely recommend this app to anyone who wants to have their phone calls recorded, well worth the money and very stable - not once has the app ever crashed on me. 10/10 rating.
Here is a link to the app from the market store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.globaleffect.callrecord
Here is a screenshot of how the UI looks like:

Not work me correctly
Hi, I have a P8 lite with the version of android 6.0.1 (b574 stock) and the application does not work me correctly, it almost does not listen and it does not record all the calls. When I had Lollipop 5.0.1 it worked very well and a very good sound.
What can I do to make it work just as well as before, but in 6.0.1?
I need help please. Thank you very much.

I use AndroRec Free Call Recorder instead.
It's completely free, completely offline, no trial, no ads, no analytics, no IAP, no recording limitations. Developer is from India. Last update is 10 Jul 2016. It supports Android Marshmallow. It's very lightweight too, taking only 844 kb in my device. No running in background.

Hi all, convert back to Android after a couple of years on Windows Phone. Missing Cortana and it's ability to read texts to me, make call handsfree etc etc.
I have found a few apps that read texts on the phone speaker, but can't find anything that works through the car Bluetooth with the sound coming over the car speakers.
Does anyone know an app that will do this please? I spend a lot of time on the car and the lack of this feature is an issue.

I have that installed but it doesn't have the same features for the car as the Windows version has.

And again, it's not available officially in Australia.

How did you go with this? If your still trying things you could try smart connect. It's a Sony app but I have it installed on my mate 9 and so far it works the same. You can set up "events" so when your mate 9 connects to a certain device it will perform certain tasks, one of them being read texts. You can also have it turned the feature off when it disconnects.
I found you can use Tasker with various scripts to mimic the Cortana on Windows actions. But I just haven't had time to explore it. I am using "SMS, my Car and me" to read out messages. When I get some time I will have a look at your suggestion . Thank you for posting it here.

Is it because his smartphone is a Samsung and my isn't, or am I missing a setting?

I have a Watch 4 and can't answer calls either. Not only that, even when I answer the call on my phone, it doesn't send the audio over to the watch
This is disappointing as even a $10 "smartwatch" can do this ... and my phone is also a Samsung =)
I tried using Javascript commands to route the audio from phone speaker to bluetooth, but my bluetooth connection between the phone and watch only shows the Call profile, not the Media profile
Any ideas or solutions to suggest?
Found another solution, a full fledged Whatsapp for our watches. A guy called Joao modded below Beta to work on watch 4/5. Installation of file via ADB to watch, started WA to welcome screen, set wm density to 75 via Wear Installer app, clicked WA on watch to next screen with a beta info, reset wm density, was able to scroll down to QR code and connect watch WA via Linked Devices function to WA on phone. Works perfectly, almost all functions. Remember when playing around with wm density make a watch backup first.

You should have absolutely no problems to answer phone calls on your watch even if it's just Bluetooth. Have you checked permissions?
Otherwise you should reset your watch and restart it. (just do a complete backup of your watch face, settings and apps on your Samsung account).

There were updates posted in a Telegram chat, but in order to evade expiring betas these are based on you might as well install and sideload the regular app now, found on Whatsapp website under Package Installer link (it is a multi APK with arm7 and arm8 included). Unlike the modded beta the app will be shown in square however, but fully functional, and not expiring.

Hello! do you happen to know where this guy Joao originally released this version you posted and its updates? It's a quite more convenient mod than the regular apk since you don't have to modify dpi in the watch to syncronise with your account. On top of that it was modded to be fully displayed in the watch screen, not like the other versions which are cropped with the rounded screen making elements not completely available. Also he introduced some mod to open the apk from native notifications in watch...
For some reasons it seems to have been discontinued and it is not release into telegram groups etc.
