Chrome extreme battery drain - HTC One S

So I using Chrome for my Ville C2 and the problem is that it can discharger my battery from 100% to 0% in like 2 hours... Even games doesnt drain the battery so fast(Well maybe minecraft in really intensive map). Is there a fix for this? Or you can suggest me another browser? I like using Chrome because im also using it on my pc so i can keep everything in sync but this is just ridiculous. I have these browsers:
Stock browser - Fast enough but also eats alot of battery
Chrome - Fast, eats battery alot, keeps everything in sync
Firefox - In my experience its slow but it has flash player
Opera - Fast, doesnt consume much battery but lacks flash player feature and isnt really functional
Any suggestions?

You should really use Battery Stats from Play Store to see what's causing the battery drain.
By the way, boat browser is also a good browser.

I don't require much in a browser. I just want it to load pages correctly and not force close.
I would love to use chrome or just the stock, but too many pages don't get loaded correctly. I think I've tried them all.
I use Boat Browser and do not have problems with it.

Your experiences pretty much is correct. However, you can install the older ver of Opera 12.1.4 which supports flash(enable it in settings). The new ver of Opera used a new engine and doesn't support flash anymore.
Another option is Dolphin but you have to notice some ver don't get flash too.
For the feature-wise, I'm afraid only Chrome and Dolphin do it right but the latter one is better on performance/battery with flash supported.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/xb594i
This is my backup of Opera 12.1.4

Imho the best browser is Maxthon. I've tried all of the most famous browsers and I've come to this conclusion: fast, instant back/forward, flash support, cloud sync (if you want it), auto-fit content when zooming the page. I strongly suggest that you give it a shot.
However, about battery drain I find that both the stock browser and Maxthon consume quite a bit of power. I can say more or less 25% per hour (I have the S4 soc, though). Not so much as you say but to me it seems quite a huge drain.
How much are you guys consuming with your browsers?

[Q] What Browser is best? and why?

Hi all, I'm new to the android world, with the nexus s being my first android operated phone maybe even my first smart phone, had a Nokia n97 previous although it wasn't quite the smartphone advertised but thats another story.
The title says it all really I'd just like to know what browser you would recomend and why. I used to use opera on the n97 however there wasn't the selection available there is for android. I see dolphin hd pop up alot around the forums.
So please share your favorite browser and you reassons why. e.g speed, UI, customise ect
Cheers for everyone who takes part.
Firefox or Dolphin HD for the add-ons
Opera for speed
Stock browser for all-round
Stock browser for speed (less lag)
I also like the stock browser but I'm also a big fan of xScope Browser.
I usually use the stock because it seems the best all around as one of the above stated but to save pages I use Opera and I've been testing out some others as well
Im really liking the Dolphin mini beta at the moment. I find it quicker than stock and still runs everything perfectly.
For me the stock browser is the best atm :
- Firefox : looks promising, but way too slow for day-to-day use, needs optimizations
- Opera : don't like the rendering, almost impossible to click on links (try browsing Google Reader...), not really faster than stock (with turbo mode off)
- Dolphin / Dolphin HD : too bloated for me
The stock browser has been impressive so far. I haven't run into any problems so far

The only thing that bothers me in the stock browser is the navigation through open windows. I'd love to have some proper tabbed browsing.

I've extensively used the stock browser, Opera Mobile, and FireFox (nightlies and latest stable). I primarily use Opera Mobile (not mini) for almost everything because of how ridiculously smooth its pinch zoom and panning is compared to everything else out. To see its advantages, simply go to an image-heavy page like Gizmodo and try panning and zooming on any other browser (the newest FireFox included). To me, its smoother/better user experience is important than the javascript speed advantages in FireFox.
I have run repeated tests on both my N1 and my NS and have found that in SunSpider, the fastest is FireFox by a healthy margin, followed by the stock browser, distantly followed by Opera. However, in my experience, page loading has always been similar across all three, meaning that js speed doesn't factor that much in rendering most pages.
Extensions are a big draw in FireFox, as is Flash in the stock browser, but I find that Opera does everything I need natively. Plus, flash support is supposedly going to be added (as well as to FireFox Mobile).
x scope 6 is solid its fast and all around just great I know its not free but I think its the best one out at the moment until firefox comes out of beta and adds flash it may be king
stock for me.
Dolphin HD has a lot of add-ons that I thought sounded interesting and installed on my Galaxy S and Nexus One, but I never really used any of them, so that's a pointless feature for me. I found Dolphin HD to be bloated and much slower than the stock browser on any of my phones, even without add-ons.
I've kept the NS on stock based on past performance with Dolphin.
seems like I haven't really gave the stock browser the chance it deserves, to be honest dismissed it almost straight away.
Back to stock for me to give it a real test. Although I'm hoping firefox lives up to it's desktop browser standards.
Also quick question which is non related but I don't see the point in starting a new thread. I need to return my phone due to the back button not lighting up. I was just wondering if there is a away to save all my data to when I get my new phone i can put all my data back on. E.g phone numbers, sms msgs photos angry bird progess, music ect.
thanks again for any help.
I prefer the built-in browser for everyday use. I have one website that I get from a real estate broker which has some fancy frames in it that doesn't render correctly in the stock browser, for this site I use Opera mini.
i'm still can't decide which one is best
using (in no special order):
Stock 2.3 Browser
Opera Mobile
Opera Mini
SkyFire
Dolphin HD
FireFox beta
they all have their Cons/Pros
SkyFire was my main Browser until they screwed it up, and now it has become as broadware as Dolphin HD
I like both Dolphin and Skyfire for their Flash & Video support but... they are slow and broad.
FireFox still has much work to be done on it
Opera Mini & Opera Mobile is identical in Android, but in WinMo they were 2 different apps
so it boils down to Stock 2.3 Browser being the fastest, but.. not so great on Flash / Video support
can anyone answer my question on a way to back up all my data as I'm returning my phone tomorrow due to the back button light not working.
Is there away to back up all data, apps, contacts, photos, messages, angry bird progress. live wall papers. Or will i need to start all over again?
Also how can I earse all my data in order to return the phone.
Thanks in advance

Anyone else really starting to hate their tf?

Am I the only one starting to hate their tf? I am finding mine more and more useless for web browsing each day. I figure web browsing would be the one aspect they perfect if none else! Examples from tonight.
I try to send a friend a message on facebook.com and when I finally get the slow tf to the new message screen, I click paste and the browser crashes!
In gmail.com I was trying to setup mail forwarding and the keyboard refused to appear on the screen even though my text box was open with a blinking cursor!
Trying to click on various links on web sites it often hits the wrong link.
Trying to watch any videos or flash in the browser is usually uselessly slow.
Overall loading and rendering of pages takes a very long time, especially when compared to a normal computer... shoot, my htc evo loads pages faster!
Using forums utterly sucks, typing is really delayed and scrolling around the page is painfully slow as I have to watch square after square render
Half the time when typing it misses a key then the backspace refuses to work!
Ahhhh... come on Google! Wtf! As much as I hate to say it, I am starting to see why ppl pay more for the ipad2, it usually just works smooth and quick!
I gotta ask what rom your running. I have some glitches now and again but overall mine is snappy. MAybe its time for a cache clearing?
A few of the problems you mention can be solved by using apps instead of going through the browser every time. It's not always the fault of Google that web pages run slow; web developers are notoriously lazy when it comes to optimization for mobile devices like phones and tablets. They're not desktop or laptop replacements, therefore you can't expect the same performance.
The best thing you can do for speed and stability is to use apps more often than the browser. For instance, use the Facebook Messenger app for sending Facebook messages, and FriendMe for all other Facebook tasks. For forum browsing, try using Tapatalk. Other than that, always make sure you are running the most current firmware and plugins.
Like just now, I tried to reply to this thread and nothing would type in the box, just a blinky cursor, I wait a few seconds and still nothing then I type a bunch of garbage and it all shows up! But of course then backspace wouldn't work.. its like hard work just to reply to this thread.
I am using the latest prime rom. I've used nothing but prime mostly and I usually wipe everything and the caches for each new release just to be safe... and I can understand about using different apps but I shouldn't need a separate app for everything, I mean my android phone plays flash videos smoother.. and the facebook apps! Suck for the most part when compared to the site (I know that sentence was messed up but again, backspace wouldn't work for me to fix it!)
Very disappointed.. I love my android evo and have always backed android but this really stinks... I bought the tablet to relax and browse the net, it seems to just have made more work and aggrovation for me..
Have you tried different browser? I use Opera browser and it works pretty good. dolphin HD works pretty well too. Dice Player and/or MX video players? lastest flash version perhaps? I am using Prime 1.8.4, no complain here as far as software go.
i've always used tapatalk to post in this forum, so i never actually tried to use the website to do so.
so i decided to do this via stock browser. my review: it's not perfect, there's a half-second delay to get it going, but for the most part, it's perfectly useable.
i even realized i wasn't even doing the about:debug trick. once i did it improved mildly. i do have flash enabled 100%, and i'm currently staring at a bestbuy flash ad.
overall though, it'd say it's quite useable, not perfect, but not as bad as the OP's case. backspace work fine.

A few people have had problems with the latest prime rom such as slow wifi and browser problems. But like others said, use a different browser such as opera mini.
My suggestion would be to try the revolver rom.
+1 for Opera Browser. I am running Revolver rom and using Opera and it is fast as f%$k with the blockiness 99% gone. Don't know if it is the rom, which I think is faster than prime, or Opera but I am loving my tf more every day.

The only Opera I have used is the mobile tablet one. I may have several tabs open at the same time..I hate having to click on the way you display all the tabs (thumbnails) select a tab...takes a double click or hard to close one. I haven't checked for blockiness being gone since the last update. I thought it was gone in Dolphin HD at first...today it seems back. i hate that about my wifes ipad...not being able to draw or refresh the entire web page at once ..so I can scroll down it properly....
I mostly use Dolphin HD. It doesn't force close or crash any more than Opera does for me.
Yes web browsing does leave something to be desired on the TF. Strangely enough using the same browser on my phone I don't discover the same problems. My conclusion? HC leaves something to be desired... hopefully with ICS things will get better.
Has any of you tried Dolphin Pad? It's a beta version of Dolphin optimized for tablets and works quite better than Dolphin HD.
Oh wait, don't let me post a link because of my post count, ****. Just search for it in the market. It's called "Dolphin for Pad V1.0 Beta"
I have no problems with browsing using dolphin pad or opera. Fast as hell on the revolver ROM. tf was a great investment.

I use the stock browser and I don't have any problems at all with it. When I first got my tf I was able to sync my bookmarks so that every machine I use has the same set - this would be worth a lot of inconvenience as I have a lot of work material in my bookmarks. The tf is not as fast as my desktop but then it wouldn't be would it? It's slower than my netbook's browser but then the touchscreen is easier to use than the trackpad. I don't recognise any of the OP's problems and I've never used any other browser.
I do feel for you, I have had some isues as well. But once i rooted, flashed and yes oc'd I have had alot less issues. I still get some wierd lag and force close apps about once a day but its nothing hat i cant live with, well excpet for the gun bro's lag. Its become unplayable.
I would try the suggestions to use apps and manage your programs a bit better. Clear the cache, check your perms see how it runs then
I love my TF more and more every day, its just getting better and faster with every update from Asus.
I use the stock browser still as well. I have tried various others on the TF and use Dolphin HD on my HTC Desire, but on the TF the stock browser seems the best still, I haven't had any issues with it other than it being a bit slow on forums.
I'm on 100% stock, using stock browser, and on Newgrounds.com right now. Flash is running smooth. Yes, when scrolling down the page I see the empty boxes but they render quickly. TF smokes the ipad2.
I use the official rom and it works GREAT, watch flash videos without a problem. Really if you have those kinds of problems you should hate your rom ( unless you are using the official one, in that case i would factory reset ) not the tf...
I'm using stock browser also. The keyboard delay is annoying I have to say.
For the rest it works OK. Sync my bookmarks with Google which I find very handy.
I'm running Revolver OC and ADW EX.
This is very fast and fluid. I'm very pleased with the way it works right now.
Most of the OP issues sound like browser issues, I can't access gmail settings without any browser crashing too, but no biggy
Forums are known to be slow for typing into, I think we need a browser that supports 2D Hardware acceleration like FF does on the PC etc
I'm running the latest prime rom also and I'm OC'd to 1.5 GHz along with ADW EX and i couldn't be happier with my tf. I also use Dolphin HD and have no problems with it. As someone else said use apps specialized for specific tasks rather than websites.

Wow, this apk is pretty legit. I can browse desktop sites on my phone with little problems whereas before on previous browsers (stock, opera, chrome): the page would have problems rendering partial frames. I'm on AOKP mtdvibrant.
test it on my defy.
through i donot like dolphin at all.
Very fast. I dig it thanks
Very nice! Loading of pages is the fastest I have seen, yet.
Page scrolling on my Nexus One (CM7 Nightly) is still ways behind Opera Mini, but that is not a full-fledged browser so a comparison would not be fair.
Opera Mobile has about the same scrolling smoothness as Dolphin HD so that's that, but stock browser is smooth as a baby's butt for me...would love that for Dolphin as well.
Hmm? Dunno if it is just me or there is nothing displayed at all in the browser.
Ok this just became my default browser. Nothing tops this. Not even the Linaro Firefox nightlies.
Seems very buggy on my DHD, html5 doesn't work, images aren't displayed (I get a blue square), it crash on html5test.com
Is this related to the same company who runs dolphin browser? If yes I don't want anything to do with it.
Installed it on my Sony Xperia S. It froze on first use and I had to reboot the phone. Tried it a second time and it froze again.
I think I'll stick to the original stable version.

i remebre i tried it before and it was great even before the beta
Randomly freezes loading sites for me.. I certainly don't have to reboot my phone, about 15-20 seconds later Android offers the FC/Wait dialog.. Tried it 4-5 times, sometimes it loads a few pages, other times it freezes first try.
Stock rooted Gingerbread on Galaxy Note i717.
As for the Dolphin paranoia... Ignore it. Rumor turned into fact after going around the blogs/forums a few times, you know how that goes. Was related to their "Magazine" function, which IMO useless, but wasn't any cause to freak out about. Just something about their permissions as I recall; all long fixed.

I've been using the old dolphin for ages and love it.
The add ons make it really custom to me, Default browser.
Can't waittotry the new one.
Just hope it can use thr same add ons.
I really can't tell a difference between this and the Dolphin HD I already use, except this beta makes all the text on the page blurry when I scroll.
What's supposed to be special about this one?
Love dolphin HD and this beta runs nice on my optimus 3d scored 435 plus 3 bonus on html5 rodent quiet run as smooth as HD but hey its a beta can't wait for full version

Official browser should be best, but google doesn`t care, at least there are ppl who actually make this android working...
Google should get rid of their ANCIENT compiler they using to make android. Android will be ~100% faster than we have today if they use new compilers, and they probably asking why there is so many customs ROM out there...
edit: Browser working nice on HTC Desire, far from Opera Mini but better than stock on big pages. Ok, it`s still beta.

Web Browsing after last update

How is the web browsing after the last update?
I know the stock browser I hear is poop.
Dolphin/Chrome, etc., just how is the browsing is it smooth?
For some reason, anything based on stock (ICS browser+, dolphin, maxthon) all start to heat up my tablet like crazy. Chrome is deliciously smooth but you can't fast scroll like you can on the stock. Firefox is crazy great too except due to the crap fancy motion blur animations, the browser stutters when you scroll too fast. Opera mobile isn't optimized for both our resolution and our processor so it lags and stutters like crazy. The browser scene is generally a clusterf*ck. I can't even install scriptish on firefox ;_;.
It is pretty smooth, but +1 on scrolling, different windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec in build.prop doesn't seem to change this one.
I'm using Chrome mostly and it's ok, apart from scrolling(!), it's just too slow. But apart from the aforementioned, try Boat Browser.
I'm using the stock browser, chrome and dolphin and just change whatever browser I'm using based on how well it's handling a given website. Some sites like chrome, some dolphin and some stock. I think this approach works best as there's no one perfect browser for all sites (for now).

He, I have a fellow crusader.
I'm using Opera Mobile, mostly. It does do fancy things with especially the font size -- it's tiny. I do like Boat, but it has a limited number of speed dials (i.e., insufficient to me ) whereas Opera allows an unlimited number. I guess I should try Chrome, but doesn't that lack Flash support? (I know Flash is meant to die anyway, but lots of sites still use it extensively.)

Does it make us the Templars?
I like Chrome and I find myself needing flash quite rarely these days, especially for the websites I'm visiting on the tablet. Hopefully it can stay this way, but I'd really like the scrolling bar from the stock browser! Scrolling in Chrome is just painfully slow, I can't seem to find a way to solve this.
And, talking of privacy issues, I actually do hope Google in fact doesn't store our passwords to the sync of bookmarks etc. Probably NSA doesn't need them to, as a simple brute force attack would suffice? Wonder what encryption they're using.
I've tested and adopted Maxthon HD... Even though it sometimes bugs a bit, I really like it : it's almost as good as a desktop browser :good:
It supports flash, uses Webkit as well as Chrome but scrolling is ok.
Regarding the firmware update, i get less ANR but no other changes, it's not more fluid than it used to be...

Battery related: which browser consumes the battery the least

I use Internet browser heavily every day. So I am looking for a browser with fast speed and good battery life.
I mainly used opera, chrome, naked browser, and cm browser.
I love the naked browser very much, but it kind of drains the battery fast. CM browser saves the battery the best but it is made by Clean Master (the famous cheating app), I don't trust it. Opera seems to be the balance one.
What's your favorite browser? Thanks!
Personal favourite is lightning browser (pro version blocks ads) but I have not tested the battery life vs the base chrome, It's a bit like a more featured naked browser. Previously I used Atlus browser but development stopped on that last I looked.
Opera since years

By far and away, the best browser I've used so far is called Rbrowser. It's simple, super fast, isn't a battery hog (as far as I can notice), and has edge swiping!!
Here's the developer's write on it from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ineedyourservice.RBrowser&hl=en
This Browser is a version of the CAF Browser/SWE browser. This is an optimized browser made for the snapdragon processor. This browser is between 5-40% faster than the standard chrome shipped with your phone if you are using a Qualcomm processor.
Some of the cool features of this browser:
-It can block Ads (Watch the video for an example)
-It is really fast, much faster than Chrome
-It supports edge swiping to navigate.
I find Boat browser to be very good. Performs very well on my Z5.
Hi, try next browser! For me is very good
