Hi
When I check my storage, the phone storage is full, but there is plenty of space on the internal & external SD card.
I'm currently unable to update some of the apps cos there is no space.
I've moved all the apps to the SD card. What else can I do. I generally save all apps pics etc onto the SD card, so not sure why the internal memory is full.
Please advise

You need over 150MB of free space to install some apps on our phone. Stupid restrictions. Delete unused apps or move what you can to internal 4GB memory.
Thanks,
I think I have moved all the apps I can to the SD card.
I guess I will just have to delete some apps.
Thanks

Any idea what "others" refers to in the screen shot.
As far as I am aware, all pics & media files are on the SD card.

Try to use some app like app2sd (free). It makes you figure out how space is used by each installed application. And also it has a function to clear cache.

There are only system files, that covers those 3.04GB space. For me it's 2.83GB, but I think it's because of Saturn ROM v1.2, which has some crap kicked out.
Ok. I guess there's much I can do.
Thanks for all the replies.

What would the best partitions on the stock 8gb sdcard for the sensation?
EXT? (if so what ext and why)
SWAP? (If so what size swap and why)
Your help would be amazing...
One fat32 partition. Additional partitions are not needed at this time. Swap to sd is slower than ram so you really only want to use it on devices that are severely ram limited. Apps to sd is for devices with limited onboard storage and I don't think that's an issue for most of us.

Why after installing any ext-4 rom can not move apps to sd card ? after moving little apps, 2 or 3 apps, any apk over 3mb it says sd card full, and I have over 4gb free!
i did the superwipe step
any advice will be appreciated.
OK, I am going from an 8gb sd card to a 16gb, but before I do I need to know if it will break root or if I just need to make the new one a goldcard as well or what in general. I searched for switching sd cards in the forum but it didn't give results so I'm asking here.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
the ONLY reason a goldcard is needed is for downgrading firmware. ROOT is WITHIN the OS and has NOTHING to do with the SDCard. you can freely swap sdcards at will

If you change your SD card nothing will happen except that you will loose your apps and photos in there. Root access has nothing to do with your SD card. Make a copy of the files and folders you want to preserve in your pc and then copy then back in your new SD card....

Ok, so a follow-up to that, and this may be a noob question but... Is there anything on the SD card that I have to have? I usually move ROM backups off the card to a computer, but lots if apps seem to make a folder in my SD card. As a rule, am I better off keeping apps in the phone memory if available? My SD cd card seems to be full of cr*p that i don't think I need but am afraid to delete.

Nahh dont copy anything...just the backup and the titanium backup folder...that will do. With those folders you can restore all your missing apps with data...and have a backup of your rom just in case!! Is good to tidy up from time to time!

Got it, thanks. What about apps, are they better off on the phone or should I move them all (widgets excluded) to the SD card?

Back them up with the titaniun backup and the copy that folder into your new SD Card. Restore the missing apps and that's it. You need no more...

In my experience apps don't do so well from the sd card. Leave them in the phone.

Thank you all. I moved all of my apps back to the phone. I had already culled many that I didn't use when I rooted and flashed a ROM last week. I made new backups and pulled them off the sd card for safe keeping and then erased the SD card. I put music and ringtones back and now I have lots of space and everything still works. Guess all of those other files were just clutter. Thanks again.

I rarely have problems with apps on the SD. Maybe one or two out of 100.
Sorry for this noob question... Previously owned galaxy ace. Recently bought HTC Sensation....!!
Rom: ARHD
How to create sd partition and move app to sd-ext..?? Any suggested tutorials..??
Excited .. My first post in XDA.. Hopefully not my last
Just a comment:
1GB of internal storage is usually enough even if you have a lot of apps. I, for example, have ~55 apps installed and I still have 600mb of free space.
Partitioning your card and using an ext partition as internal memory is not that good because: it will damage the card in time (continuous read-write on SD) and it's recommended you have at least a good class 6 card because the read/write speeds of your stock 8gb SD are way slower than the speeds of the internal flash memory.
Did you really run out of internal momeory on your Sensation?

Hi
Let android do it for you.
Go to settings/ apps/ all, and click on the app you want to move.
There will be an option to "move to sd card"

Wait a second, you didn't know you can move the apps to sd?
Anyway, moving an app to sd using android's app to sd is different than using a partition on your sd as internal memory.

Haha I knew how to move app to sd card... But i was facing frequent restart prob when m connecting via usb mode...
Thanks anyways problem solved with the latest version of arhd

hi
I've got a problem almost in the same category
my phone is sensation xe with beats audio runnicing ICS with sense 3.6
Problem in short : I can't move any app to my sd card !!!
I've tried the offecial built in feature of moving apps to sd card but every time I do i get the message " can't move app "
I've also tried a third party app like "Apps2sd" but the same problem exists.
any ideas what could be the probem and what solutions can be applied
yes,are you rooted?? If not their are LIMITATIONS on which apps can be moved and which can't. Unless your rooted you have to obide to these limits. Now if your rooted its a different story, you SHOULD be able to move just about ANY app you want! Of course you want to be careful what you move because it can interfere with things like moving widjets to SD will sometimes cause them not to work. But you can easily move them back when you want to use them. Hope this helped!

If you have root, run
Code:
su
pm setInstallLocation 2
And more apps will magically have the ability to move to your SD card.
Hello
I have installed CyanogenMod 7 on my Galaxy Ace then downloaded all the apps I had when I was using the stock ROM. Then, I moved all the apps one by one to the SD card (which I could not do with the stock ROM) and yet I have LESS internal memory that I used to have.
Why? What can I do?
Thanks
There are more advanced options, but to start out you might want to try clearing all app caches.
If that still doesn't free up enough space, you can try out link2sd

I use Link2sd clean all app caches with one click!
Thanks to both of you. I downloaded Link2SD and emptied all the apps cache but it was only a total of 1.14MB. So that won't do it.
What is the "Delvik Cache"? Could that help?
Clearing the dalvik cache does nothing, as Android will simply rebuild it after a reboot.
However, since you've installed link2sd, you might as well use its primary function: to move apps to an SD card partition
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
Ok so I've managed to move all apps to the SD card with link2sd instead of the built in way and gained a little space (about 10 MB). I guess that's the best I can have for now :S
Moving apps to the SD card won't really free up space. There is a designated amount of unusable memory specifically for apps. On some phones it is as much as 2GB. So even if you have ZERO apps, that 2gb will still not be available. You are actually doing more harm than good. The apps you move to your SD card will not run as well.
im also noob on this kind of matter so i thanks people who helped coz i too have a CM7 on my xperia x10 mini pro with low internal memory
what i did to solve the low memory is that i made a partition on my sd card which is sd-ext4 and activated A2SD on Settings>CMsettings>performance>a2sd
they say it tricked my phone of having more internal memory than its actual size, and every time i install apps it automatically gets in my SD
Is that good?

Hi,
I just got a HTC One SV and I've installed all of my apps on my previous phone to this phone. But there's a problem... Its running out of memory. I just cant seem to find any way of moving them to the sd card. It just moves it to phone storage and i only have 4gb of memory. My sd card is 16gb so ive got plenty of space on it. Please help me find a way of moving it to the sd card.
Thanks soooo much!!!!

No, you need root. Unfortunately they made the rom in a way that keeps you from moving apps to the SD card.

No, there isn't an option to move to the actual sd card just between the internal storage and phone storage.

There's no option to move apps to the actual SD card, just between the internal storage and phone storage ..they call the internal storage the SD card. I've talked to them on the phone too ..most of them don't know what they are talking about.
On a side note a lot of people have this problem with a lot of other phones.
