Editing vold.conf & vold.fstab - Samsung Galaxy Fit GT 5670

Hi,
I have a quick question. Is it safe to edit and save vold.conf and vold.fstab using RB Text Editor as root?
I seem remember from my old linux days that direct editing of fstab was dangerous.
I don't want to stop a Galaxy Fame from booting by unsafe editing of either of these files.
Regards,

[Q] Build.Prop

I had My Wildfire rooted(CM7 Nightly Rom).
By default System folder doesnt have build.prop file. i extracted the build.prop from the rom and pasted with few changes.
for eg. default ringtone to Rigel.ogg(orginal config Playa.ogg)
But my phone isn't changing Playa.ogg(Default) to Rigel.ogg
What i concluded is andorid is not reading the build.prop file
any suggestion?
Thanx

Idk if I'm right , but since by default it has no build.prop that means it won't read that file .
Forever living in my Galaxy Ace using XDA App
So can u please tell me how to make my Phone read the configuration mentioned in build.prop??
Hmm, wich nightly do you have?
CyanogenMod-7-Nightly-buzz
My only tip is make sure you are using a plain text exitor like notepad or notepad++ because otherwise the formatting can stop the roms from working.
Thanks for your reply..
actually i figured it out myself.
"Build.prop only works at the time of flashing"
I flashed my wildfire with updated build.prop and it reflected the changes that i made.
my real motive was to use timescape widget with Arc launcher.
can you guide me with this.

[Q] [Q&A]Build.prop

When editing the build.prop for porting is the special way i have to copy the information over because i know i dont want to change the symlinks

[Q] build.prop & local.prop

Hey everyone, I need some information on local.prop and build.prop.
First of all, are these two files loaded on every boot or just once after you flash them?
Also, what is the difference between the two? I have gone through several ROMs/mods, and I have seen that some people use local.prop for the same values that some other people use build.prop.
What is the difference? If I am cooking my own rom, can I just add any line I have on local.prop to build.prop and delete it?
Thanks!

Can't you just mod the vold.fstab (under /system/etc/)? Open it with a text editor, and switch the mount points for the internal sdcard and the external sdcard. If you don't feel like getting down and dirty, try this app. I can't guarantee it working, but it should work if you have a Samsung device. Root is needed, of course.

no,I can't because if I edit vold.fstab I got bootloop,just see my vold.fstab.
any other method is not working.
only framework patching or modifying kernal is solution.

What device do you have? Your vold.fstab seems fishy... Also, I tried decompiling your framework.jar, but it shot out some errors. Can you upload your framework-res.apk (and twframework-res.apk if you have a Samsung device with Touchwiz skin) found under /system/framework/ ? Upon browsing the framework.jar with an archive manager, it appears that there isn't a classes.dex. Did you try modding your framework.jar? Upload an unmodified framework.jar too, and I'll see if I can get the job done.

[Q] build.prop file needed for N8000XXUDNE4

Hello guys!
I tried to change screen density on my N8000 (TouchWiz KitKat [N8000XXUDNE4]) with build.prop editor. It has changed but the value was wrong and I could saw only some part of the screen so I was not able to change it back via build.prop editor app. So I did it on my laptop (copied build.prop file on SD than edited it on laptop and copied it back to \system folder.
Now my tab doesn't boot it stucks on Samsung flashing logo... :crying: :silly:
Where did I messed thing up? Will placing similar file from other device (N8000 with same ROM) help?
Could any one please share his original build.prop file with me?? (igemmon at gmail.com)
Many thanks in advace!!!
