Hello!
So, last year I bought my very first HTC Pico/Explorer. Every time I turn it on and off I notice the "T-Mobile" animation. A week ago I rooted my phone and I was wondering if someone can tell me how to remove the "T-Mobile" animation. Since I'm on another mobile carrier I find this a little irritating.
Thank you in advance!

T-mobile carrier!? First T-mobile carrier I'm seeing around here... Installing a custom ROM would automatically remove the T-mobile animation I guess...
Check for boot animations in the explorer index thread. You can flash just the boot animation without changing the ROM.

How do I tell if my phone is 100% stock? I got my Nexus S secondhand, and just wanted to be sure. My phone is on Android 2.3.6.
Thanks! Sorry for the noob question...
Does it boot with an unlocked padlock under google? If so the bootloader is unlocked. Try root checker to check for root. Compare software version with stock roms listed here.

When you power on your phone you see the Google logo. If there is a padlock symbol at the bottom of the screen then it more than likely is not stock of has been rooted in the past.

check those things already mentioned, but chances are you are stock. 2.3.6 has been out for about a week. The update caused problems with tethering and did not fix a fairly major bug (Search bug). For those who know how to modify the phone, these issues can be overcome. Because of this, I suspect that you got sold the phone because the original owner did not want to deal with the issues
Just to make it clear, a locked bootloader (no lock icon when booting) doesn't mean the phone is stock, it just means you can't apply a new recovery until the bootloader is unlocked (again).

Quick question:
I'm buying a used Samsung Focus.
Typically upon buying a used phone, I immediately get the signed RUU (I'm generally an HTC guy) and flash the phone back to factory.
I'm somewhat confused as to how this works with the Samsung Focus. Let me get this straight--it DOES have a locked bootloader, right? I gather from other threads that it isn't possible to flash modified ROMs. Does this guarantee that the otherwise sketchy looking ROM (UCJK2) in the dev section is legit/unmodified?
I'm basically wondering which is safer from a security standpoint:
1.) Factory reset the phone straight from the seller and use it without any flashing.
2.) Flash the mystery (maybe signed?) ROM in the dev section on the off chance that the seller messed with the phone.
I'm finally creating this thread after several hours of research. Any advice is much appreciated!
Locked bootloader on Samsung phones so flash away. I suggest the Rogers ROM if you want as close to vanilla as possible. It can be found in the Focus forum.
Close to vanilla? Aren't the ATT apps removable?
Thanks for the reply!

Yes the apps are removable but they are still really there taking up space also there is other branding like wallpapers ringtones boot logo. If you flash the Rogers ROM you get more free space as well as remove the att boot logo and other branding. However the regoin is preset to canada so you will have to change that back to united states in the settings.
Bump. I think we're still looking for a definite answer on this?

I currently own a droidx on verizon but I'm tired of the monthly $110 so I am switching to t mobile $30 prepaid. I just ordered a unlocked lg g2x running android 2.2 from ebay. It appears to be an amazing phone. I have experience in rooting the droid x installing roms etc. but lg is newish to me.
I assume first I should root the phone then install a boot loader and do a backup.
But after I'm a little hazy about. Do I update it then root it again or is there a one click program that will update and install root from my current version?
I assume tethering works in the same manner. And I can't find anything new about throttle override for t mobile. Does one exist? I mean I typically use 6gb every month now.
Thanks for your help and guidance
Mike
Boot loader is already unlocked. No need to root. Simply install cwm via nvflash. Download the rom you want to use. And install it via cwm. All the info you need is in the dev section.

Tethering works fine for me on stock or rooted. No known way to over ride throttle right now. The sim is the standard sized sim it's NOT a micro sim.

I got my phone in this week, it actually shipped with:
version 2.3.3
baseband m6600a-scautnz-2.0.9720t 1[jul 15 2011 10:00:00] mp:trulge_08.09.02r_mdm
kernal 2.6.32.9
software lg-p999-v21e
build gri40
I plan on using the phone on he $30 dollar plan because I plan on travelling and swapping sim cards when I visit my friend in japan among other places. The phone is unlocked and works with a AT&T card I hope it works outside the country too.
This lg is alot different than my droidx and an lg optimus I worked on. between what you told me and what the Guide told me, think I understand. I havent put anything on the phone yet, been waiting for my sim card
Question though, is there a reason to update the baseband? and when/if I do will it interfer with forgien sims?
LG G2X is a "stock android" it doesn't have a overlay or different UI on it... but does have a butt load of LG (poopy) coding, which is why root and a different rom is so good.
there is no reason to change base-band, IMO, from the one you are on. I had the latest base-band (Mar '12) and it has a little pllus to it like the GPS was a tad bit faster, but it had more downfalls, you cant have any other custom rom on it besides the one Kwes is working on and that won't cut it for my personal flavor as it doesn't get the kind of battery life CM7 base roms will get FOR ME.
base-band should not make a difference when it comes to changing sim cards and traveling.
I recently returned to owning a htc sensation. Atm it is on gingerbread 2.3.4 and I was looking forward to upgrading it to ics. However when I checked for updates nothing came up. I have a z710e like I did before and I previously was able to install it on a sensation with that model extension.
Any Suggestions?
Uh, root and install a rom.
I Don't Want To Do That
Then Wait And Hope That The Update Gets Sent To You.

Rooting and custom Rom really make your device run better all around. Why wouldn't you want to root? You have so many more options and tons of customization on ab rooted device. Personally I couldn't imagine not rooting! You will see, custom roms are much more stable than stock device. On stock I got rebooted and terrible battery, never had that happen on a custom Rom . But it's your choice . If you don't want to root your limited to what you can do. Also you'll be waiting for God knows how long for your update... Choice is yours.

I Know The Benefits Of Rooting
I Want The Stock This Time For My Own Reasons
Does Someone Have Some Proper Suggestions Regarding My Problem With My Update Not Showing?

We have no idea why it's not showing, it's also out of our hands. If you want to wait for stock, that's fine, but there's really nothing we can do about it. Sorry.
Download The ICS RUU For Your CID And Flash That Way
Hi all, First post on here hope everyone is nice. So I rooted my s3 played around with wickeds rom and liked it alot! Then I saw Synergy came up with the multi window rom so I flashed that! Everything worked great except wifi was not turning on. I saw someone say you need to unlock bootloader and reflash. So...
I used ez unlock to unlock bootloader
I pressed reboot into recovery
AND.... Bricked.. I think.
Can this be fixed? Most people who brick their phones by flashing to a wrong rom but not in my case. The phone wont turn on and wont go into download mode.
WHAT CAN I DO? can i call samsung and tell them that the screen stopped working or something? Its a 2 week old phone!
PLEASE HELP!!!!
U can search for hardbrick solution, i think there is a way to reflash bootloader. If not take it to samsung, maybe they won't see what u did.

I've returned a phone that was bricked back to a retailer no problem. Going through a carrier might be different.

Look for JTAG repair if you are absolutely sure you cannot get into download mode.

I've also flashed that ROM. You must flash Ktoonsez kernel in order to fix the WiFi problem.
