convert from tar to zip - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to convert a ROM, say the ICS ROM to a cwm flashable zip? I was wondering as I wanted to fix the su problem before flashing.

If I get my phone back for Christmas (cousin getting a new phone) I'll see what I can do. Don't need to convert this anymore

I think you can flash the ICS rom on your phone then get the rom files via "adp pull" and put them into an update.zip. It's just a sugestion, I have never tried :silly:. Or you can make an update zip only with the modfied files.

Is there a changelog for this ? Running 2.5.1.3 and wondering whats different.
EDIT: Just flashed this and it does not work for me .. flashes ok but never gets past android man, re-flashing 2.5.1.3 enables me to get back to recovery ..
Cheers
Strange that it does not appear on modaco yet (2.5.1.3 latest Sticky). Does this one support SD-Card Format? I think 2.5.0.9 and 2.5.1.3 did not support that, am I right? Cheers,
Hope this works! Currently using 2.5.0.9 because of problems reported with 2.5.1.3. Just about the only thing Clockwork would let me do is allow a nandroid backup before I flashed a new ROM.

The problem isn't with the new version afaik. It's because it now uses a binary instead of an update script. Not all of the ROMs have been updated to use this though.

Whatever the reason, it's a bit unfriendly of 2.5.1.3 to not be backwards compatible with what was (and still is!) working perfectly in 2.5.0.9 -- let alone the way it barfs out with such an incomprehensible message. It's a nightmare for newbies, who blindly assume that newer is better.

Actually the problem IS with the new version. 2.5.1.3 is not able to flash BOOT properly (bad addressing maybe?).
BTW is it for the OLED or the TFT version? Which boot you based on it, Sebastian?

Question about flash from a (maybe) future O3D owner

Hello, maybe i'm going to buy an Optimus 3D soon.
I've got some doubts about the flashing process: on Android i'm used to flash with ClockWork Mod Recovery, but i see that there you use another method that needs Windows on a PC.
How's that? Can i choose which one to use or do I really need the program on my PC?
And also the modified USB cable?
We still use Clockwork Mod Recovery.

cwm as usual to flash firmware in zip format... u only need the lg update tool if you want to flash kdz files which are basically the form in which lg releases the firmwares.

Ok that's great, so for custom ROMs i won't need it
And what about flashing CWR? Is it Root>Flash from terminal?
Ok i should get it tomorrow (can't wait )
I've seen that to flash a radio i have to use the LG Flash Tool, right? I'm talking about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
And i have to change radio to switch to Gingerbread. Do I just need apps on my computer or also the modified cable?

Right, i think ROM manager is easier, even if it should work also with ADB terminal
So official Gingerbread will be released in 2 weeks? :O

you can but then it is better to update through zip files in recovery than trying lg update tool cause some people have problems updating through lg update tool after they have rooted and cwm. I never had any problem though. my phone is rooted from day one and has cwm and still getting updates through lg update tool...
But will we be able to flash the radio from a ZIP?

First upgrade to official gb will have to be through either lg update program or by installing a kdz file of it when it is released. After that you will have the gb baseband already installed and you will be able to upgrade through zips

Here you go. I'm not going to kill you over not searching, sometimes it can seem like a vast ocean of info and be overwhelming, but you can run a search for the tatoo/click forum and usually in ANY forum the rooting/flashing stuff is stickied to the development forum.
Just wanted to give you a heads up for easier searching next time, here's the link you need.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854152
THEN flash CM7 ROM, then full wipe + cache + Dalvik, then flash gapps, then restart. (just my personal preferred order)
edit: i would just flash it via adb
adb push recovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img
adb shell
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
exit
exit
then just type adb reboot recovery and flash ROM

First of all, when you download the firmware from asus, you have to extract the file named: US_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3.zip. place the extracted zip file on your 'SDCARD'. your tablet will find it and notify you. if it doesnt, restart the tablet.

[Q] Changed the build.prop now stuck on load screen

Hello recently I changed a setting on my phone's build.prop file. I have a ZTE Warp Sync on Android 4.4.2. I believe I changed the dalvik.vm.heapzise=8m(or similar to that). I didn't mean to put 8 in but wanted 148. I have the default build.prop file but can only access the recovery mode. So I am wondering if anyone knows how to make a signed update.zip because everyone I make seems to fail. Also if I try doing any adb commands it says "error:closed." Thank you for any help or advice you can supply it is all appreciated.

I believe I've found a rom but I would prefer to not. It needs TWRP installed which in recovery mode I'm unsure how to do. The reason I would like to not flash a rom is because I've got 400 pictures or so from my Italy trip and would like to save them. Other than that I don't need anything on the device.
I don't think flashing a stock rom will delete your photos because they shouldn't touch the sdcard partition of the phone. At least it's been like that on the numerous phones I've flashed to and from stock

Ok thank you so much. Ill be sure to try this as soon as I can. Very much appreciated.
Edit: I tried the install of TWRP with the .zip but it again says "Signature verification failed" I am trying right now to fix the error:closed on ADB so I might be able to fix it that way.
I have tried out the TWRP.zip installation but it doesnt work for verification error. I also installed the SDK but I still receive error:closed when trying to run adb commands.
