Ohai~
It's weird because I thought I'd find like 3k threads with my same issue but strangely I found none... well, here you have, the known bug of why play store says you don't have enough storage when you have the same storage for the app you want to download and 5 times more.
My free storage IS:

and, if someone says "don't trust that, it's not reliable" blah blah, Clean Master says the same.
I try to download this update
and BAM.
What could it be, ladies and gentlemen? Details of my device at my signature, using Play Store 4.3.11.
You can try wiping the data for Play Store and see if it works.

Okay, tried, and nothing. I also tried reflashing gapps, still the same problem though...
If you have root, you can force uninstall Google from your system if it's a system app and reinstall from Google Play. If you're using Lucky Patcher, check that all unused odex files are removed as these unused files can also cause this error with Google Play.

hi, download directory of play store is /cache/download/
check if /cache is full
aosp/cm based roms uses /cache for dalvik,odex files( i don't know which )
you might want to bind process of download directory of play store using CacheDownload2SD.
It won't affect if you mount/unmount SD Card unlike what SD swap does.
littel help
that already happen with me and i solve it with formatin the phone (master reset) .
sorry for my bad english

Why do you even want to reset the phone if the problem can be pointed out? It will be a lot of trouble to go through just to get Play Store working properly.

Actually /cache is empty, this is weird, with the same apps at CM10(4.1) I had like around 200 and 170mb free storage.. this just started happening when I switched to CM10.1.

2. I think money will solve your lag problem, better and easier than any performance tweaks.

So hopefully this will work for you.
1) I downloaded and installed Shadowgun. I DID NOT download game data yet.
2) I set up the directories. At this point both directories are empty.

3)Then check the directory box
4) Select the option to Bind Checked and the box should turn green
5) Launch Shadowgun and download the game data
6) When it is done, if it worked the game data should be on your microSD card
7) You can also verify that your app data has increased, but your Available space has not decreased
8) It is VERY important to backup your database. There is a bug in the bind app that won't keep the folder binds after a reboot. Once you back it up simply restore the database to restore your binds

So as I went to update Facebook this morning, my phone alerted me I had insufficient storage. Apparently 9 gigs of "other" files are taking up a bunch of space yet I cannot find them, even with showing hidden files. I don't wanna just go deleting files that I'm unsure of. Any ideas?

What rom are you on? If you've just recently moved to TW 4.3 or AOSP 4.2/4.3/4.4 then all of your TW 4.1.2 data is in /data/media. Pics, music, videos, nandroid backups are the biggest folders usually.

Well, if its not either of those three big names from my last post then you should backup any important data then wipe internal storage.
Get SD Maid from the play store. I use it to find duplicates, ghost files, and other stuff worthy if deletion.

I had a very similar question lately:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610663
I was missing >50% or my 32gb storage to unknown/other. I tried everything on the market, used computer to delete data, file analysis, nothing helped.
I am running CM10.2 and used the CM setting's app to perform a factory reset (the clockworkmod factory reset does not remove all user data). Apparently this formats your data area, and in my case eliminated the unknown wasted space.
[Q]Tried possible fixes still "Error dwnloding app frm mrket.Insufficient space..."
Fixed the problem by reflashing the Stock Firmware. No idea what was causing the problem.
If you are facing the same problem, read it (what "Dark3n" suggested ) before proceeding for a reflash.
Hi guys, the Infamous "Error downloading app from market. There is insufficient space on the device."problem is back to haunt.I am unable to find a solution even after an intensive research and troubleshooting
When I am trying to install the applications from the Google Play Store, I am getting this error.
"Error while downloading <application_name>. There is insufficient space on the device"

While I have sufficient space (500 MB) in the internal memory.I can’t even install the small apps like Root Checker.ASUS apps are also not getting installed.
I have faced the same error in the past on my previous devices but that got resolved after wiping the cache partiton via CWM Recovery. But this time the problem is so persistent.
Things I have tried :
>Cleared cache using Clean Master and CacheMate.
1.Checked and if there's any “ .odex file” in “/data/app”.NO .odex file there.
2.Wiped cache partition via recovery.
3.Force Stopped “Google Play Store” and “Google Services”.Cleared “Data” and “Cache”
4.Force Stopped “Google Play Store” and “Google Services”.Cleared “Data” and “Cache” and uninstalled “Updates”.
5.Stop the market app. Then clear the cache from inside the task manager according to this post.
This error is annoying the crap outta me and I am at my wits end on this one.
P.S. Yes,I know,I can use "FolderMount" OR use "Link2SD" to link the apps to SDCard,I just don’t understand the point of wasting 500 MB space. That’s beyond comprehension.
[Asus Zenfone5 A501CG] [Rooted] [Android : 4.4.2] [Build :ASUS_T00J_WW_user_2.21.40.44] [Stock Recovery]
(Updated to 2.21.40.44 via OTA.Do I need to "Factory Reset" my device ?)
Ever faced the same issue ? Any clues ?
Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you!!
Could be a permission issue, or preexisting files that fail to be overwritten.
Try SD Maids CorpseFinder and enable all extra filters in the settings, that should find issues with preexisting files.
Make sure that you have enough space specifically on /data/data.
If you can record the failed install in a logcat there might be more specific information.

Thanks for the response buddy.I had already fixed the problem by flashing latest firmware by the time I checked your post.
You are right, that could be a permission.I have been using SD Maid for a long time and no doubt it's such a wonderful must have utility, unfortunately I didn't think about the preexisting files Anyway,it might be useful for othere users.
Thanks again for your support and developing such a wonderful app
Really appreciate that.

Hi!
I picked up a Mate 8 from a local service provider and would love to flash a new ROM to get rid of the ugly stock one, but I am stuck when trying to flash anything from TWRP.
The phone boots fine, I unlocked the bootloader, and has TWRP Mate 8 version...I can't locate any files from the internal storage though. I understand this is due to the system being encrypted. I cant seem to get around that though. I tried the format data option, hit yes, then go back but that obviously has deleted what I had stored (the SU zip). I can't mount the SD either afterwards, to load it in recovery.
I tried using the Italian knife tool, and used the Root option, and option 3, but get an error: error: cannot load '.\rec\boot.img
I am not a pro on this so it might be something farely stupid. I would love if anyone could help me with this...

Edit:
I was able to solve myself. It was a rookie mistake. Perhaps the internal storage is encrypted, however I was able to flash SU using TWRP by inserting an external SD, which I had not done before. I was able to view contents from that location and did not need to use the Italian knife tool.

Are you using SuperSU ??
To delete system apps, download system app uninstaller from play store and grand it superuser permission.
Hi, I think my problem is easy to solve, but I want to try others solutions. Well the thing is that I erased all gapps from my phone via rootExplorer (gms.apk, gmail.apk, sky...something.apk, etc) because I don't like those services; Until there, all works great (almost 4 months). I had problems with the internal storage (it was 99% but I didn't have many apps or big files) then, I erased the partition 'data' via TWRP, restarted the phone and all ok (the phone restored), but after set language, choose a name and last name and select a pin I can't go to the next step (in the section 'Google services' a dialog says: "unfortunately Google Play services has stopped") I guess it is because I don't have gapps installed...
I tried to flash gapps via recovery but I think it is not for stock roms...I know that the best solution is download the stock rom and flash it, but I don't have the capacity to download 2.7 GB...
So, someone who has idea about this problem??
sorry for my english, I'm still learning...
